Tom Clancy: 5 Reasons Rainbow Six Is The Best Series (& 5 Why It's Ghost Recon)

There are arguments to be had about whether Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon is the best entry in the series, and here they all are for you.

Both  Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and  Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series have been around for a long time, and as such, have built up reputations and followings for themselves.  Rainbow Six ,  Ghost Recon 's older sibling by three years, has seventeen installments in the series while  Ghost Recon boasts a slightly more modest fifteen total games. Both series feature top-secret organizations comprising operatives at the very top of their classes, squad-based gameplay, and first-person shooter gameplay that follows a cohesive storyline. They are similar in so many ways, but as for which series is ultimately better? Read the list below and decide for yourself.

RELATED:  5 Ways Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Will Be Like Wildlands (& 5 Ways It Will Be Different)

10 Rainbow Six: DLC

If there's anything that prolongs a game's longevity for years after its release, it's fresh content. This is something the  Rainbow Six series does very well.  The latest installment in the series,  Rainbow Six: Siege is bolstered by new weapons, operators, and maps four times per year, every year. Even when a new season doesn't necessarily denote a new map, an old map gets a rework. Players can always count on bug fixes and balancing tweaks with each new season, and fresh content keeps the gameplay itself from growing stale over time.

9 Ghost Recon: The (Co-Op) Campaign

If there's anything big the latest installment in the  Rainbow Six series lacks, it's a campaign.  Ghost Recon: Wildlands has  Siege beat in this category by about a mile, because not only does  Wildlands have a great campaign: it's a co-op campaign.  Wildlands doesn't betray the fun of multiplayer gameplay for the sake of a good campaign; it simply integrates the two for a more social approach to FPS campaigns. If you're somebody who enjoys a good storyline behind their gameplay rather than just PVP gameplay that can grow repetitive after a few hours, but don't really wanna be a loner,  Wildlands is a good choice.

8 Rainbow Six: Cosmetics

Rainbow Six and  Ghost Recon both boast their fair share of impressive cosmetics for weapons and operators alike, but in  Ghost Recon: Breakpoint 's case, getting the cosmetics isn't as easy as it should be. Unlike in  Rainbow Six: Siege , which gives players the chance to roll for loot in Alpha Packs at the end of every match their team wins, as well as the opportunity to buy Alpha Packs with in-game currency,  Breakpoint makes it harder. In order to outfit weapons in  Breakpoint , prepare to shell out real money for packs with cosmetics in them.

7 Ghost Recon: Graphics

The latest installments in the  Ghost Recon series know a thing or two about breathtaking graphic design. This is thanks in part to the development of new, higher-tech consoles and the reality of 4K games on the Xbox One and PS4. But just a few minutes in the  Ghost Recon: Wildlands world makes it quite clear: the map design and graphics are certainly something worth raving about. Big, beautiful maps like the one in  Wildlands are reminiscent of stunning open-world games like  Red Dead Redemption 2 and  Far Cry 5 , which fans have praised for artistic design.

6 Rainbow Six: Close Quarter Maps

There is definitely a difference between gameplay in  Rainbow Six games and the latest installments of  Ghost Recon games. In  Siege , players are stuck on relatively small maps with either four teammates and five belligerents or four teammates and a seemingly endless supply of AI terrorists. This makes for close engagements with the enemy and a lot of sneaking around. This kind of gameplay is great for those who like fast-paced, high-stakes gameplay realistic to the circumstances of a real siege and who don't like using longer-range scopes on their weapons.

5 Ghost Recon: Larger Maps

However, if you're a gamer who likes the satisfaction of landing those sweet sniper shots through the head, the  Ghost Recon series is better for you. Since you play on larger maps with more distance between you and the enemy, long-range engagements are a must. Large maps also mean more room to roam and less structure around actual gameplay. Playing on the same playlist of small maps over and over again can get stale after a while, and larger maps remedy this by keeping gameplay exciting and new.  Breakpoint features a diverse map with different climates and terrain meant to be Bolivia.

4 Rainbow Six: Teamwork

Again, this depends on what kind of gameplay you personally enjoy, but if one game series currently focuses more on teamwork over the other, it's  Rainbow Six . The whole point of  Siege is to work with teammates to beat the enemy team, complete the objective, or battle waves of AI terrorists. The game is set up in a way that even one teammate that doesn't do their job sets their team at a huge disadvantage against the enemy team—and on the flipside, cohesive teamwork makes for some great plays. Ubisoft encourages the use of voice chat and suggests using a full squad to rank up in Ranked PVP matches.

3 Ghost Recon: Solo Playing

Of course, sometimes it's nice not to have to worry about irate teammates screaming down your headset or just having yourself to count on for success in a video game. You can play both  Ghost Recon: Wildlands  and  Ghost Recon: Breakpoint on solo mode without ever being forced into a co-op experience you don't want. The downside may be that some parts of the campaigns are more difficult to do on your own, but this still doesn't mean you have to play co-op with someone else. In a gaming landscape where multiplayer seems to dominate, it can be nice to get back to the basics of story-based solo play.

2 Rainbow Six: Diversity

Rainbow Six has always prided itself on being diverse, given the series revolves around a top-secret antiterrorism unit that employs operatives from all over the world rather than  just the United States, the way  Ghost Recon games do. This becomes especially apparent in  Rainbow Six: Siege , when players can finally choose from a variety of operators from twenty-two different SDUs originating in eighteen different countries. There are currently 19 female operators out of 50 total, and up until recently, the leader of Rainbow Six itself was a woman. How's all that for diverse?

1 Ghost Recon: The Enemy

The villains in the  Rainbow Six story have always been terrorist organizations. Some of then are large, some small; the most recent is faceless and consists of men from multiple countries. In general, while the  Rainbow Six enemies pose a threat, they are never as well-trained or deadly as  Ghost Recon enemies tend to be. In fact, in  Ghost Recon: Breakpoint , the biggest, baddest villain is an ex-Ghost named Cole D. Walker who leads a squad of soldiers he calls Wolves. This traitorous act and sense of danger brings an extra layer of intensity to gameplay that  Rainbow Six games just don't seem to possess.

Operation Amber Sky

  • View history

Operation Amber Sky is the third live event in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint , featuring several Rainbow Operators from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege .

It is the second crossover between the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six franchises following Operation Archangel . It was released on January 14th, 2021.

  • 3.1 Operator Skins

Overview [ ]

The event features ten missions across Auroa and introduces Ash , Finka , and Thatcher as AI teammates, with Lesion acting as mission control. The event also introduces a new survival mechanic with gas-filled areas. These areas force the players to wear a gas mask and replace filters regularly in order to stay alive. The event also adds more than 120 new customization items to the game. Players who complete all the event missions will unlock 11 unique rewards, including new weapons and Rainbow Operator skins.

In 2025, Rainbow learned that the private military company Sentinel was mass producing a nerve gas agent called "Amber Ruin" on the remote island of Auroa with the intention of selling it overseas to foreign militaries and terrorist groups. Due to the large number of Sentinel personnel occupying the island, Lesion coordinated with Scott Mitchell to conduct a joint operation with Ghost Recon called Operation Amber Sky to stop all production, identify potential buyers, and create an antidote. Lesion contacted Ghost Team Leader Anthony "Nomad" Perryman and briefed him of the situation. [1]

With Lesion acting as mission control under the callsign "R6 Actual", Eliza "Ash" Cohen , Mike "Thatcher" Baker , and Lera "Finka" Melnikova deployed to the island by replacing a major buyer who was coming to purchase Amber Ruin and met up with Nomad. Lesion contacted Nomad and informed him that Rainbow had intercepted a Sentinel transmission detailing an Amber Ruin attack on the Harris Homestead. Nomad traveled to the site and found no survivors, their bodies suffering from abnormal rigor mortis as a result of the gas. Through investigation, Nomad learned that the attack had been deliberate in order to test the effects on the gas. Shortly afterwards, the CO in charge of the test arrived at the Homestead by helicopter. Nomad managed to subdue and interrogate the CO, learning that the data from the tests had been stored on a boat near the river. Despite heavy opposition from Sentinel forces, Nomad and Rainbow successfully escaped with the boat and delivered it to Dr. Gregory Ballard who had agreed to formulate an antidote for the gas.

Nomad and Rainbow located a Skell Technology engineer named Darryl Morgan who was in charge of a Amber Ruin mass production facility in the mountains. Nomad breached and eliminated Sentinel forces from the facility, rescuing Morgan. Morgan explained that he had been forced to produce the gas by Sentinel who had threatened to kill him and his family. He then told Nomad how to properly destroy the gas emitter in the facility. Afterwards, Morgan stated that it would take several days for the gas to dissipate. Morgan was then escorted to safety by Nomad and Rainbow. Meanwhile, Dr. Ballard developed a prototype antidote for the gas. To test the antidote's effectiveness, Nomad brought Dr. Ballard an Armored Personnel Carrier which held a stockpile sample of the gas. Despite this, more work was needed to increase the antidote's effectiveness.

Nomad traveled to multiple Amber Ruin shipping facilities around Auora and placed trackers on each shipping container. He also identified two buyers: Freddy Porter as well as Miss Tanaka of The Mu Cult. Nomad subdued Porter and turned him over to Rainbow personnel while Tanaka was allowed to travel back to her organization to be arrested alongside her conspirators at a later point.

Through further intelligence from Lesion, Nomad eventually identified and destroyed two more gas production facilities. Sentinel attempted to destroy information regarding a researcher working on Amber Ruin named Dr. Nathan Finley by planting bombs at a camp holding the intelligence. Despite their efforts, Nomad and Rainbow managed to defuse the bombs and repel Sentinel forces. Lesion later informed Nomad that Dr. Finley was a former associate of Dr. Ballard who had been working on Amber Ruin under duress from Sentinel. After contacting Rainbow and failing to escape, Dr. Finley was detained at Whaler's Bay Airfield. Lesion emphasized the importance of recovering Finley who had invaluable research needed to finish the antidote. Nomad and Rainbow managed to rescue Dr. Finley and took his personal plane which held all of his research to flew to safety. During the plane ride, Dr. Finley explained that Amber Ruin was ten time deadlier than VX nerve gas and that it had been brought to Auroa by Raven's Rock . He then went on the detail the various effects of the gas but was reassured by Nomad that Dr. Ballard's antidote would be a success.

After landing, Nomad checked the plane and learned that Sentinel had bugged it with a GPS tracking device. After defeating the remainder of Sentinel's forces, Lesion contacted Nomad and thanked him for his help, stating that Dr. Ballard should be finished finalizing the antidote soon. He then informed Nomad that Rainbow had successfully apprehended the terrorist buyers worldwide after tracking and confiscating the Amber Ruin shipments.

Operation: Archangel

  • View history
“ An alert message from an unknown source has been emitted in Caimanes. Need to check the place to understand what's happening. - Mission Description ”

Operation: Archangel is a unique mission that is split into two parts, the first is in Caimanes and the second is in Libertad . It is unlocked when the player first enters the province and features operators from another Clancy game, Rainbow Six Siege .

  • 1 In Caimanes
  • 2 In Libertad

In Caimanes [ ]

The Kingslayer Team intercepts a distress signal outside the city of Frontera and find a crashed truck surrounded by piles of cash and several dead cartel members . The team reports the massacre to Bowman , who informs them that Rainbow operative Taina "Caveira" Pereira has recently gone AWOL from Rainbow and is suspected of killing several Santa Blanca gang members.

Bowman then introduces the team to fellow Rainbow operative Meghan J. "Valkyrie" Castellano , who requests the team's assistance in locating Caveira. Hoping to stop the rogue operative from potentially starting an international incident, Bowman and the team agree to help bring in Caveira.

The team soon meet Rainbow operative Emmanuelle "Twitch" Pichon , who requests the team bring her to the crash site.

Their investigation leads them to a cartel outpost where they interrogate a Santa Blanca lieutenant, who reveals that Caveira is after someone named Dengoso . Twitch briefly parts ways with before rendezvousing with them at Dengoso's apartment in the hopes of finding any hints as to why Caveira's after him.

In Libertad [ ]

A message on Dengoso's answering machine reveals that he is Caveira's younger brother João , and an undercover officer for the Federal Police of Brazil. Sent by his superiors to infiltrate Santa Blanca, Dengoso's cover had recently been blown and he is now being held captive by the cartel at a chemical institute.

With Caveira already on her way to Dengoso's location, Twitch and the team catch up to her at the front gates and agree to assist her in rescuing Dengoso from Santa Blanca. The rescue is a success, though tensions rise between Team Rainbow and the Ghosts when Bowman demands Dengoso's cooperation in sharing anything he knows about El Sueño and his operations in Bolivia . Despite Caveira's insistence on leaving immediately with Dengoso, the later agrees to cooperate with Bowman only with permission from his superiors. Nomad soon breaks the tension between both sides by allowing Dengoso to leave with Team Rainbow, much to Bowman's chagrin.

“ João "Dengoso" Pereira, Caveira's brother, is a Brazilian agent infiltrated in the cartel whose cover has been blown. With the help of Caveira and Twitch, Ghosts have been able to extract him. - Mission Description ”
  • After rescuing Caveira's little brother, Nomad questioned about Rainbow Operation Patriots, The Rainbow operator replied back with anger saying that it is highly classified. Operation Patriots is referring to the cancelled game Rainbow 6: Patriots .

Ranking The Best Tom Clancy Games

T here is an abundance of Tom Clancy games in the market that exceed expectations with all-around fun gameplay and profound stories. The militaristic and secret agent themes of Tom Clancy games make them thrillers like none other. Not only are Tom Clancy's titles generally amazing, but his books are as well. Despite Tom Clancy passing away in the year 2013, Ubisoft continues to brand its games with his name.

The 10 Best Ubisoft Games

There are plenty of excellent titles with Tom Clancy's name attached to the box, and we've added a few more for your perusal. Some are old, some are new, and some you may not have thought to try out, yet. Now's the time.

Updated on January 11th, 2023, by Grant Burton: The Tom Clancy brand is a continuously expanding one. It, therefore, makes sense to update this piece to reflect the latest releases while also making the extensive list of Tom Clancy games easier to read and more engaging. Note that this is not an extensive ranking of every Tom Clancy game ever made but rather the best, most notable, and significant entries in the brand name.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

  • A follow-up to Ghost Recon: Wildlands.
  • The game did not sell well or review well.
  • Actor Jon Bernthal portrays the primary antagonist.

A follow-up to Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint puts more emphasis on survival while still featuring a large, varied, open world and tactically focused combat. It had everything that made the first game so good .

It also starred actor Jon Bernthal as the primary antagonist, but his involvement did little to aid the games' reception or sales. The game had messy mechanics and questionable live service elements, and its life as a service ended once NFTs were introduced.

Here is our review of Ghost Recon Breakpoint .

Tom Clancy's Endwar

  • A real-time strategy game.
  • Console versions used real-time tactics, while handheld versions used turn-based combat.
  • Allowed you to use voice commands.

One of the lesser-known Clancy titles is Endwar, a real-time strategy game based on possible real-world scenarios that focus heavily on the aftermath of a nuclear attack on Saudi Arabia, which significantly changes the military and political landscape.

While not perfect, the RTS mechanics were enough to make Endwar stand out, especially with Clancy's name attached to the box. Small skirmishes involving a variety of military units were well thought out, and overall, gameplay was challenging but compelling. Unfortunately, it flopped, killing any chance for a sequel.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Extraction

  • A follow-up to Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Introduced aliens to the Tom Clancy series.

Known as Rainbow Six: Quarantine prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rainbow Six: Extraction was an extraction-focused follow-up to Rainbow Six: Siege. Like prior Rainbow Six games, it focused on tactical, squad-based combat.

9 Best Extraction Shooters

But this entry went way more science fiction than most Tom Clancy games by adding aliens and parasites. It received mixed reviews and failed to truly succeed its predecessor, although it did perform well commercially on its initial release.

Here's our review of Rainbow Six: Extraction .

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

  • Punishing, realistic difficulty.
  • Based loosely on the novel of the same name.

The original Rainbow Six did a lot to influence the stealth-action genre, thanks to its realistic breach and takedown tactics. Far from an arcade shooter, Rainbow Six introduced very real threats, such as one or two-hit deaths.

The focus on counter-terrorism wasn't a new idea, but Rainbow Six made it a novel one. It would go on to inspire an entire franchise that is still going strong to this day, making it perhaps the most popular of Clancy's many series.

Tom Clancy's The Division

  • Set in a pandemic devastated New York.
  • Features game as a service elements.

Set in a near future New York , one that was devastated by a pandemic spread via dollar bills, The Division was one of UbiSoft’s first attempts at a massive, open-world, game-as-a-service game.

The game features the classic Tom Clancy tactical combat with squad emphasis. It also allows for competitive play with others, as well as role-playing elements. It performed well enough to get a sequel that was considered by many to be even better.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Vegas

  • It introduced health regeneration and third-person modes to the series.
  • Negatively received due to bugs.

Vegas was the first game to introduce a new team to the series , along with changes to a lot of basic game mechanics like health regen and a third-person view. Not everyone is a fan of change, which puts this game's ratings on the lower side. But given that it breaks a lot of new ground, it warrants a closer look.

The Best Co-Op Shooter Games

Another reason Vegas is a bit lower on the list is the negative attention it received for certain bugs and other issues upon release, which seems strange to think of today, but an expectation for quality control actually existed in the video game world back in 2006.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

  • Focuses on the threat of a smallpox biological weapon.
  • It introduced multiplayer to the series.
  • The Game Boy Advance and mobile versions feature side-scrolling gameplay.

Pandora Tomorrow is oft-forgotten, and several factors have contributed to this , including its removal from the Steam store for reasons unknown. Nevertheless, this second entry in the franchise built upon the excellent stealth action system developed in the original title.

Pandora Tomorrow focused on the plausible real-world threat of a terrorist faction utilizing smallpox as a biological weapon to hit every corner of the United States. The plot grew thicker throughout the course of the game, eventually shifting to a rogue CIA agent.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown

  • It received mixed reviews due to its visuals.
  • Red Storm Entertainment developed the PS2, PC, and GameCube versions, while Ubisoft Montreal developed the Xbox version.

It's a matter of taste for most people when making a call on Lockdown. You are divided regarding the graphics and AI, which weren't exactly poor but are getting older and not really up to compete with other games that were also released in 2005.

Some praised the storyline and characters, but others said the design wasn't up to the same level of immersion and emotional investment as its predecessors in the Rainbow Six series. The mixed bag of reviews is a strong incentive to check out the game and judge it based on your personal opinion.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction

  • Introduced faster, more fluid movement.
  • Also introduced mark and execute, Hollywood-style shooting.

Conviction was a leap forward for the Splinter Cell series, as it introduced several mechanics to the franchise that would help keep it fresh by the time 2010 rolled around, including the Mark & Execute system. It would also introduce the last known position mechanic, where enemies would hunt for you based on when line of sight was broken. This would influence many other games, including Sniper Elite.

8 Best Vigilantes In Video Games

Conviction was big on the story as well. This time, Sam has a personal stake in the events of the game, which mixes up the story between interpersonal and extraordinary events. It's definitely one of the best in the series.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear

  • Added more story and character moments to the series.
  • Was an early example of a game that added DLC and expansions.

Rogue Spear followed up the success of the first Rainbow Six title by incorporating more story elements and scenarios into the game. Though it didn't overhaul the original's gameplay (much too early for that), Rogue Spear did give gamers more of what they wanted.

The game would also pioneer add-on content before it became a staple of video game culture, offering gamers three expansions complete with a built-in organizer for user-created mod content.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

  • Gameplay moved closer to those of contemporary first-person shooters.
  • Console versions of the game featured a different story, as well as different mechanics.

When the game released, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield was overshadowed by first-person shooters like Halo: Combat Evolved and Metroid Prime . Sure, the game was pretty fun for its time, but it definitely wasn't the best shooter.

More importantly, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield was a stepping stone for later Rainbow Six games. If you prefer the classics or want to try a new first-person shooter, Raven Shield is still enjoyable for its tactical-based missions and early usage of a cover system.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

  • It features an open world, plus a variety of vehicles to explore it with.
  • Moved away from the futuristic setting of prior series entries.

Adding gameplay elements such as driveable vehicles and helicopters, and adding weapons that can shoot long distances adds to the ingenuity of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands . The Wildlands setting is a mountainous region that is overrun by the hostile Santa Blanca drug cartel.

10 Changes To Make Ghost Recon: Wildlands Go From Good To Great

Wildlands separates itself from past Ghost Recon games without deviating too far from them. At face value, it seems like an interesting game, but it falls short of expectations due to its repetitiveness.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

  • The game relied heavily on timing, patience, and communication.
  • The game features a minor character crossover from the Splinter Cell series.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was a considerable improvement over previous Ghost Recon games . Achieving objectives requires patience and smart movements. Communicating with allies to take out enemies was electrifying. Advanced Warfighter 2's missions had a more dramatic tone than the first Advanced Warfighter game.

In Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, the explosions are bigger, it has more gadgets, and your HUD is more interactive. Advanced Warfighter 2 is inferior to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, but it is a fantastic game in the Ghost Recon series regardless.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2

  • An online-only, action, role-playing game.
  • The story is disconnected from the first entry.

Photorealistic graphics in Tom Clancy's The Division 2 make it stand out from other loot-based games. Completing missions with online players has never looked as good in a squad-based third-person shooter. When the original The Division released, it came with a lot of bugs that were fixed later. Without a doubt, Division 2 had a more successful launch than its predecessor.

Best Looter Shooter Games Out Now

Destroyable armor removes the sponginess of The Division 2's enemies and makes completing objectives more practical. Also, the Dark Zone has been adjusted to encourage newcomers. All weapons in the Dark Zone now do the same damage, so you can be an inexperienced player and still win. Skipping The Division to play The Division 2 is recommended since the story has no connection to the first.

Here is our review of The Division 2 .

Splinter Cell: Double Agent

  • Two different versions of the game exist. One is on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3, and another is for the Xbox, PS2, Wii, and GameCube.
  • Reception for both versions was very different.
  • The story from the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions is the canonical one .

This is a unique entry for the Splinter Cell series. It still uses the same stealth motif and covert operative setting as the other games, but what makes Double Agent different is that it's actually two completely different games. Ubisoft Milan and Ubisoft Shanghai made one for the Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 3, and Ubisoft Montreal made another version for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Wii.

Both games feature different storylines and gameplay. The one from Miland and Shanghai uses a custom engine, while the one produced in Canada is made to look like a more traditional Splinter Cell game.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist

  • The first Splinter Cell game to not feature voice actor Michael Ironside.
  • The game undersold, putting the series on hold for more than ten years.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist is one of the strongest entries in the series. Blending in with the shadows was not measured with a gauge, so you would have to guess if they were hidden. Despite its flaws, Blacklist is a worthy entry in the series.

Fans are still waiting for a sequel to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. A stealth system that didn't track speed made Splinter Cell: Blacklist feel different from previous Splinter Cell games. Ubisoft is planning to make a sequel, but they are being extra careful with their timing and execution.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

  • It has some similarities to the Advanced Warfighter series.
  • Focuses on squad-based, tactical shooting and combat.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier bears many similarities and differences to the Advanced Warfighter games. Future Soldier improves with an upgraded dynamic heads up display (HUD) and more action-packed levels. What remains in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is similar squad pacing to achieve an objective.

10 Best Tactical FPS Games

The storytelling of the game is also more intriguing than previous Ghost Recon games. As a game released in 2012, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier hasn't aged a bit.

Ghost Recon: Island Thunder Expansion

  • It's an expansion to the original Ghost Recon game.
  • Also released as a standalone for the Xbox.

A classic from 2002 that has stood the test of time, Island Thunder is an expansion for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Both revolve around the adventures of a newly formed, clandestine US military unit. It not only still has some decent replay value for fans of the series, but it also serves as an ideal game for new players, given its proximity to the initial release.

The story has a complex plot that takes place in Cuba during a time of political insurrection and shady elections, similar to a bonafide Tom Clancy novel or film.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

  • Each character in the squad has unique skills, weapons, and purposes.
  • The game has no campaign or story mode.

A few years of updates have drastically improved the gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege. Rainbow Six Siege has a steep learning curve . Even after fifty hours of play, some players will be struggling to use all the game's gadgets correctly. Rainbow Six Siege contains many unique items and weapons that provide you with a multitude of ways to overcome opposing teams.

Rainbow Six Siege: The 15 Best Weapons For Defenders

Using a riot shield to break through doors and blowing a hole in the wall with an explosive are two ways to shock opposing players. If you're looking for a first-person shooter with painstaking progression, Rainbow Six Siege should be your first choice.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

  • It featured impressive depth and detail for its time.
  • It began development as a sci-fi, James Bond type game.
  • It was heavily influenced by Metal Gear Solid.

Sam Fisher, a former Navy SEAL and NSA operative, made his debut appearance in the first Splinter Cell game. The original Splinter Cell released on Xbox, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PC. Splinter Cell offered unprecedented detail and depth to its stealth gameplay.

Tom Clancy games owe much to Splinter Cell for popularizing their brand. If you decide to try a Tom Clancy game, starting with the original Splinter Cell is recommended.
