The separate throttle and transmission controls were replaced with an electronic Glendinning single throttle with sync and docking modes. Also added was a joystick control for docking. Given that the original electric bow and stern thrusters thermally shut off after 30 sec. of continuous run, this was not suitable for joystick maneuvering. Both bow and thruster stern thrusters were upgraded to 24-volt long run time (10 min continuous run) Vetus thrusters. The 24V battery system has its own 24V charging system. The original thruster controller was replaced with a dual joystick design for easier use. Mast Two KVH TV3 satellite domes are mounted on each side of the mast which provide 4K TV. A third dome is a KVH LTE1 which allows for up to 25 miles offshore internet connection. Also on the mast is the latest Garmin Fantom Doppler radar with 6’ open array antenna. GPS, Sirius weather and AIS equipment is also mast mounted. The mast can be illuminated at night with white, red or blue light. All electronics were replaced with two Garmin chart plotters and a Garmin Reactor autopilot with an electronic compass. Analog tachs were replaced with Aetna digital tachs. Analog engine gauges were replaced with digital LCD display screens. The radar is the latest Garmin 6' open array Fantom Doppler radar. A fully articulating FLIR night vision camera system has also been added. The original Bennett trim tabs were replaced with Zipwake interceptors which utilize a built-in GPS to set them for maximum performance, at the helm is the interceptor LCD controller. The vessel has a Garmin AIS with an emergency button. VHF Garmin radio is new. Sirius weather antenna is on the mast. For real-time weather (wind speed, direction, and other parameters) an Airmar solid-state weather station is on the top of the mast. Weather is displayed on an additional Garmin screen (GMI 20) which helps when docking in windy conditions. The spotlight has been replaced with a Jabsco wireless control on the helm for pan tilt and changes from the spotlight to floodlight modes. This vessel even has a Garmin forward-looking sonar to help in shallow waters.There is a pan/tilt aft-facing camera to assist in maneuvering, which can be displayed on either of the Garmin chart plotters or on the TV. Aft Cockpit The aft cockpit was professionally installed at Newport Shipyard in 2014. An engineering study was completed by Gurit (a Danish firm specializing in marine construction) relating to the attachment and construction of the project. Since 2014 the aft cockpit extension has performed flawlessly. The vessel underway with the extension is stable and performance is excellent. The extension includes a built-in curved couch with Sunbrella nautical-themed stripes which match throughout the vessel. All exterior cushions have closed cell foam for no water absorption. A teak custom inlaid epoxy coated table adorns the sitting area. A port-side refrigerator is built into the extension bearing the Meridian logo engraved upon the door. Above the fridge is a clever pull-out electric grill. Multiple storage areas are under the couches. At the stern of the platform is a large hydraulic hatch for additional storage. The rear of the extension has a swim platform with a hatch for stowing the flip-out telescopic ladder. Appropriate cleats are attached to the platform. Upper Cockpit The upper cockpit has a couch which was installed as this space on a standard 408 is vacant. It has upgraded Sunbrella fabric which matches all other cushions. The couch has storage under cushions and a storage compartment. The couch has stainless cupholders. Across from the couch is a sink with storage cabinets for liquor bottles and a full-size ice maker in the adjacent cabinet. The port and starboard clear curved windows were originally plastic and were easily scratched and were replaced with tempered glass. Also in front of the couch is a custom epoxy-coated teak table on a hi/low base. The 32" TV faces the couch and can be rotated to face the helm area for viewing there as well. Deck Equipment All exterior gunwales, bow as well as upper and lower cockpits and swim platform have Flexiteek installed. It looks just like new teak without the upkeep and maintenance teak requires. A clever design to hide the cable and water hose includes two hatches on the cockpit floor which contain them for no tripping or unsightly cables in the cockpit. The Meridian name boards were originally plastic which during buffing were susceptible to damage and were replaced with highly polished solid stainless-steel. Anchor The anchor is the highly regarded Ultra Anchor with its optional swivel, so the anchor always comes up in the proper position. This famed Turkish stainless steel anchor's design holds ground better than any other anchor in it’s class. The first 5 feet of chain is polished stainless steel, so it looks great being visible up at the windless. The plastic anchor control covers on the bow have been replaced with polished stainless-steel covers. Additional Equipment​ Entertainment Equipment This vessel has a stereo system designed by a high-fidelity expert. It has a Fusion large screen LCD head unit at the helm and two remote LCD panels on the upper cockpit and one at the lower cockpit for full control. The Fusion remote units are on the NEMA network, so they can display any NEMA data, such as wind speed and direction. It has JL audio speakers through the exterior of the boat with two 12" subwoofers. Amplifiers power each of the speakers with clean power. Galley The Galley has a large Kenyon cooktop as well as a large refrigerator, freezer, and microwave. The galley also has plenty of counter space for enjoyable onboard cooking. Mechanical Equipment​ Engine Room All lighting in the engine room is LED. All maintenance is up to date, including the cleaning of the after coolers (port side aftercooler is new) and heat exchangers. Sherwood water pumps have been upgraded to the more dependable SMX pumps with easy-to-change impellers (not using splines or key way) but a special tool to make removal and insertion easy. The boat has a Reverso electric oil changer system. All seacocks have Groco valves which allow for pull-out plugs for easy winterization. The original float design for waste tank monitoring has been replaced by an ultrasonic device for accurate readings without the usual issues a float presents. Waste level are displayed on digital monitor. Air Conditioning All four A/C units have been replaced recently with new Cruisair units. These units have plastic pans which do not corrode or leave rust stains down the side of the boat on raw water outlets. The A/C pump is oversized and new as of 2020. Electrical Equipment Generator: Onan 9 kW Model 9MDKAV-2743 The interior electrical panel like the rest of the vessel has been fully upgraded with numerous LCD panels for all conditions of the boat and battery charging systems. Since some of the displays are on the NEMA network even all weather information including wind speed and direction can be shown as well as any other NEMA data. Underwater lighting i state-of-the-art. All lights are Lumishore with infinite color-changing capabilities. There are four large lights on the stern and two lights one on the port and one on the starboard side. A computer mainframe controls all the lighting with a DMX controller like those used at rock concerts for multiple effects. An LCD Lumishore light control panel is on the platform extension. Control can also be done with an iPad using custom software. The Custom stainless vessel name "Prime Time" also lights up and is interfaced with the DMX system and can be synced to follow the colors of the underwater lights as well as many other lighting modes. If the name of the boat changes, the existing wiring can be used for new vessel name. Even the horns have been upgraded to Khalenberg air horns loud enough to get the attention of any size vessel. Security systems The vessel has an alarm system with all exterior doors as well as a contact that sets off the alarm if the canvas cover for the helm electronics panel is removed. There are 4 blinking red LEDs at all entry points when the alarm is armed. A keyless wireless remote arms/disarms. Also there are port and stbd forward facing cameras and two aft facing cameras which record to a DVR. These cameras can also be displayed on chartplotter or helm TV for assistance when docking The Vessel has a new 2021 ACR full-size EPIRB. Salon The salon has two opposing couches with the port side couch having 3 pull-out footrests. Storage is under the starboard couch. All woodwork throughout the boat is cherry and in outstanding condition. All carpeting in the boat is excellent and stain-free. The salon has a 32" 4K HDTV with a Yamaha receiver and Dish Network equipment hidden in a cabinet. Four speakers are in the salon, with two subwoofers under the couch for surround sound. There is also a CD changer with AM/FM radio under the TV. Stairs leading to the galley and bow stateroom lift up where the washer/Dryer and central vac system is located. Accommodations​ Owner Stateroom: The owner's stateroom is a few steps down from the salon back aft. The stateroom provides ample hanging closet space, a large bed with easy access on both sides, a large window for plenty of light into the aft cockpit, a large head, and a separate shower space. VIP Stateroom: Forward of the galley is the VIP Stateroom with ensuite head, sink, and a separate enclosed stall shower. There is a separate door leading to the head from the salon for “day head” access. The aft-facing sleeping area has easy accessibility from port or starboard and plenty of storage lockers/closets. Helm Area: Above the salon is the helm area and lounge. Visibility is excellent and incorporates plenty of seating, a fridge, and a large flat screen TV on a movable hinge. 5 years after the first construction of the Sirius 35 DS, we would like to proudly present our new flagship – the Sirius 40 DS

Never before have we been able to offer you as much as we can on our 40 DS. The 40 DS is for those who don’t want to compromise; until now on a Sirius, you could have either a large workshop or a large central cabin, with our 40 DS you can have both!

The large saloon will comfortably seat six adults around the extending dining table, everyone can admire the surroundings thanks to the large windows that provide 360-degree views. She can offer three double cabins or the onboard space can be honed and crafted to the needs of you and your crew.

Like all of our yachts, the 40 DS gives you the interior space you’d expect on a larger yacht, in the 40 that’s an extra 7ft/2.1m more floor space.

She is designed for long-distance, extended cruising in mind and to make sure she’s the best liveaboard cruiser we could make Torsten Schmidt, owner of Sirius, spent seven weeks living onboard, non-stop. In both onboard and deck stowage, she offers more than you’d expect, and all of it can be personalised to you.

Quality of life on board a sailing yacht today demands next to a high standard of safety and comfort, a spacious and airy feel with plenty of light and visibility. A clean and fresh design, clever use of storage, headroom of 1.95m or more and other useful details are balancing life style and functionality.

In terms of use of space and feeling of luxury the Sirius 40 DS has become a class of its own. Because of the double use of space with the saloon, galley and navigation area in the raised position and the mid-ship cabin, the workshop and the deep storage spaces in the galley below there is more room available than you would expect to find on any 47-foot yacht.

Individual design solutions

With our 31 foot model we already offer more than 14 different interior designs, so you can imagine how many possibilities we have with the 40 foot model.

It is a pure semi-custom boat, designed according to your individual wishes. So far, there have been requests for more than 8 different designs, from 2 + 2 to 6 + 2 berths as well as a version with a separate additional lounge in the lower level or an extra office room. The saloon can be converted into an additional double berth by the optional lowering saloon table.

The drawings shown here can be rearranged with their bed shapes and floor plans, almost at will. But also completely different designs are conceivable. Feel free to contact us! Our boatyard internal design team is looking forward to bring your ideas to life.

In terms of use of space and feeling of luxury the Sirius 40 DS has become a class of its own

During the development of the boat, in order to offer more design flexibility, we created the seating area in the saloon with a large shelf to the front saloon windows in order to be able to move the settee forward for different layouts. In the first 3 layouts this space caters for the headroom of the underlying mid ship cabin and leads to the luxurious space and headroom.

In the two versions shown here at the far right is a slightly shortened sitting area installed further forward in the boat. This produces space for a comfortable entrance on port between the companionway and the settee, via a door and a sliding hatch, to an aft cabin. The workshop is then accessed through a door directly from this cabin.

If you prefer a swing keel version, the last two versions are perfect. In the area of the saloon, navigation and galley you don’t lose any space with the swing keel version. Just in the mid ships area below the mast it is necessary to make room for the swing keel box which is an integral laminated part of the hull. By comparison with nearly all other designs on the market, this is a “real” swing keel, moving all of the ballast up and down in the centreboard. This is a very reliable and safe, yet complex technology.

Standard equipment

Hull and deck: Made in hand-laid GRP. The hull is built exceptionally strongly, above the waterline with vacuum-adhered Corecell M-foam sandwich, in a one-piece mould with vinylester-gelcoat and resin, fibreglass mats and rovings, which are specially developed for high-quality boat building. Parts of the deck are also built-in foam-sandwich-construction. Hull-deck connection and bulkheads are laminated from all sides. Underwater finish: 1 layer epoxy primer and hard antifouling, 2 waterline stripes in the colour of your choice. Keel: approx. 3.45 t cast iron (optional: hardened lead bulb), glued and screwed to the hull with fourteen 20 mm stainless steel bolts through steel reinforcement. The forces are redistributed by massively laminated bottom floor sections. Rudder: pre-balanced rudder blade with half-skeg; wheel steering. Deck coating: PVC-Flexiteek decking for side decks ,  upper deck and in the cockpit ,  on the coamings and bathing platform ,  (GRP-deck with antiskid and real teakdeck possible). The champs are for sale? It’s a brilliant move

The Boston Celtics are the  reigning NBA champions  and coming off one of the most dominant seasons in the last eight years. They have their core locked up under long-term deals to theoretically keep the team in title contention for at least the next few seasons.  That’s quite a bit of longevity in this parity-plagued era of the NBA.  Six different champs in six years? Yuck. What is this, a Disney movie?

Boston is enjoying a nearly perfect basketball nirvana, restoring nostalgia for the fans who think back to the franchise’s dynasty days decades ago. So, of course, Wyc Grousbeck and his ownership group announced yesterday  they are looking to sell the team .

How does that make any sense?  The team put out the statement  about the ownership group hoping to sell the majority of its stake by early 2025 and closing the balance by 2028. Grousbeck would stay on as governor of the team until 2028. I’m never sure how accurate team assessments are,  but Forbes last evaluated the Celtics at $4.7 billion.  Considering the Suns sold for $4 billion in late 2022, I’m not sure Forbes’ Boston valuation is high enough.

This could actually be the  perfect exit for Grousbeck . Let me explain why:

• Grousbeck bought the Celtics with a group for $360 million in 2002.
• Boston won a ring in 2008 and this year,  notching an NBA-record 18th banner  with the latter.
• The core of the team (NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown , Jayson Tatum , Jrue Holiday , Derrick White , Kristaps Porziņģis ) signed for roughly $940 million in the future.
• They’re now saddled with the dreaded second apron  and then some.
• Grousbeck and his group could sell the majority of the team for billions by early 2025.
• He doesn’t have to be the bad guy  once the next regime has to break up this core  due to the massive tax bills .

It’s shrewd, a little diabolical and quite brilliant. I truly mean that. Grousbeck is the ultimate hero for bringing the Celtics back to prominence under his vision. He hired Danny Ainge to snap the team’s title drought in 2008.  Brad Stevens went from coach to lead executive  as the Celtics notched that 18th banner.

Selling the team is a shocking play, but it kind of makes sense when you really break it down. Anybody want to go in on this thing together for $5 billion? The Bounce community could easily get this done.

No Tradebacks

The SGA-PG trade will be studied forever

Now that  Paul George has left the Clippers , who are eyeing replacement role players to fill his absence,  let’s revisit the infamous 2019 trade  to bring George home to Los Angeles. Doing so helped secure Kawhi Leonard from Toronto, as the then-reigning NBA Finals MVP chose the Clippers over the Lakers .

When looking at this deal, it’s important to note two things: First, remember  Kawhi wanted Jimmy Butler as his running mate  at first. Second, there’s no guarantee those Clippers would have been able to sign Kawhi,  who had just led the Raptors  to their only first-ever NBA title, without it.

Here’s what the Clippers gave up to acquire George five years ago, and how those players and assets turned out:

• Shai Gilgeous-Alexander:  Two-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA, 2023-24 MVP runner-up
• Danilo Gallinari:  One season with OKC, 62 games, 18.7 ppg
• 2021 first-rounder, Tre Mann  (18th overall): Two-plus seasons, 8.5 ppg, traded to Charlotte for Gordon Hayward
• 2022 first-rounder:   Jalen Williams , two seasons, 19.1 ppg, 62.1 true shooting percentage in 2023-24
• 2023 first-rounder:  Moved to Miami for KZ Okpala and a 2025 first-rounder
• 2023 pick swap:  Not exercised
• 2024 first-rounder:  Moved to Dallas for 2028 pick swap
• 2025 pick swap:  Yet to come
• 2026 first-rounder:  Yet to come

Everybody focuses on SGA joining the Thunder in the trade.  The 25-year-old is a borderline MVP , so that makes sense, but we shouldn’t forget OKC also landed Williams in this deal, and he’s already a borderline All-Star as  the team grows into a title contender . Williams has been exceptional in two seasons and has so much more room to grow.  While Chet Holmgren gets well-deserved hype , I would argue Williams is currently better and might be for a couple years.

The other stuff hasn’t really panned out too much. The Thunder have a pick swap they will most likely exercise next season, as they should be much better than the Clippers. The 2025 first-round pick from Miami is lottery-protected. That 2026 first from the Clippers is unprotected, so, at the worst, they’ll land chances at solid role players.  Obviously, this is still a haul for the Thunder in hindsight. 

Even with George, the Clippers never truly competed.  Championship expectations never materialized  for them. In an era when draft picks tend to be overvalued (in my opinion),  I appreciate a team going for the big swing to change its fortunes.  Sure, it didn’t work out for the Clippers. They still haven’t won a championship or even reached the NBA Finals, but they didn’t worry about what a 2026 first-round pick might be. They just wanted to win and  not be the Clippers anymore .

As we watch the finale of “Clipped” tonight, I think that’s the most important thing to remember.

Big Money, Big Moves

Day 2 of free agency saw some craziness

Yesterday morning, most of us dropped our jaws when we saw the news of Isaiah Hartenstein ’s  agreement with OKC . Then, we strolled down memory lane as  Klay Thompson finally left the Warriors  and found a new home for the next chapter of his career. And, somewhere in the day,  Jayson Tatum agreed to a supermax  extension of five years and $314 million – the largest deal in NBA history.  Jaylen Brown, his longtime teammate, is second on that list.

Here’s a mini Day 2 recap with our newfangled Fun-And-Drama Meter (aka the FAD Meter), which is measured on a scale of one (least fun and dramatic) to five (most).

Klay Thompson to the Mavericks | three years, $50 million:  He’s actually gone from the Bay Area , and  Dallas will gladly take  his outside shooting.  He doesn’t have to be the Klay of old, just someone defenses are still afraid to leave open.  FAD Meter: ☔☔☔☔

Isaiah Hartenstein to the Thunder | three years, $87 million:  OKC will pay Hartenstein  $30 million this year and the rest on a declining scale.  He solves their issue  of lacking heft on the interior and fits in nicely with how the Thunder like to play.  FAD Meter: 💪💪💪💪💪

Tobias Harris to the Pistons | two years, $52 million:  The Pistons are bringing him back  and asking him to  mentor the young guys  while raising the floor of the team.  I’m not sure he can do either  in Detroit, but the Pistons have to spend the money.  FAD Meter: 🥴🥴

Tyrese Maxey stays with the 76ers | five years, $205 million:  Maxey gets his max deal  and solidifies himself as a star next to Joel Embiid and  the soon-to-be-signed Paul George . Now, how does this trio get Philly to the conference finals for the first time since 2001?  FAD Meter: 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀

Best available free agents:  DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, Tyus Jones, Buddy Hield
