OVERVIEW [ ]

The greatest thief who ever lived, Phantom is one of the Six Heroes who fought the Black Mage hundreds of years ago. Before that fateful battle, Phantom had amassed a massive fortune from his crafty heists, and evaded the authorities by taking to the skies in his airship, the Lumiere. Phantom's heart was forever broken when agents of the Black Mage murdered the love of his life, the Empress Aria. Revived after being imprisoned in ice for years, Phantom is determined to stop Hilla, a vile necromancer, from assassinating the new emperor. Phantom is armed with a Cane and throwing Cards, and is craftier than your average Thief. Phantom has the power to copy the skills of characters in the various Explorer classes (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief, Pirate, etc.). Even better, Phantom has one of the highest mobility and evasion rates in the game. If that weren't awesome enough, Phantom can also drive cars at level 50... because technology sure did advance since he went to sleep.

Maplestory M Guide – How & What Skill to Steal as a Phantom?

Having problems using Phantom? Read this guide to learn more!

Doben Villaruz

There are many different roles in MMORPG games, including Warrior , Magician , Bowman , Thief , and of course Pirates. Sometimes when we play a game, we’re unsure of what skill to use in a particular type of combat or unsure of how it works on an enemy. But if you’re playing Maplestory and using a Phantom character , don’t worry—we’ve got your back because we’ll walk you through it!

What Capabilities a Phantom Should Have

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom2

Through the use of Skill Swipe and the Loadout skill, the Phantom class in MapleStory can appropriate skills from various classes and use them as his own.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom3

You can level up more quickly, inflict more damage , and be more resilient against bosses by stealing the correct talents.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom4

What talents are the greatest to steal as a Phantom , though, with so many different branches of explorer classes?

The following are the top stealing abilities for a Phantom:

First Job: Haste for mobility and Dark Sight for some bosses (both Thief).

Second Job: Fury (Hero).

Third Job: Holy Symbol (Bishop) for training and Cross Surge (Dark Knight) for damage.

Fourth Job: Cannon Bazooka (Cannon Master) for training and Final Cut (Blade Master) for bossing.

Hyper Skills: Inferno Aura (Fire Poison Arch Mage), Bullseye Shot (Marksman), or Sacrosanctity (Paladin) for bossing.

What Abilities a Phantom should Steal

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom5

Phantoms have the ability to take skills from explorer classes and apply them for themselves with their starting skill, Skill Swipe.

Phantoms have a maximum skill loadout of four first career skills, four second job skills, three third job skills, two fourth job skills, and two hyper skills.

Even though you can have a lot of skills, each job can only employ one of them at once.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom6

There are some categories where one ability is better than the others and ought to be used all the time.

There are multiple skills in various categories that are quite helpful. As a result, depending on the circumstance, you should alter your loadout for them.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom7

For each career, the top skills to steal as a Phantom are listed here along with an explanation of why they are the finest.

The greatest choices are those that are level 100 or higher , so keep that in mind. For training purposes during your first, second, or third employment, you are free to use any active damaging skill with which you are more comfortable.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom8

The primary mobbing skills from Pathfinder’s first and second jobs are frequently stolen skills during levels 10 to 100. These skills can be macro’d immediately after one another to form a seamless combo. Many Phantoms, however, just employ their own mobbing techniques.

Phantom: Job Skills

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom9

1 st Job Skills

There are no damage-increasing abilities or other buffs in the first profession that will have a substantial impact on your character’s strength.

Haste from the Thief class is a wise choice as a result.

Haste won’t significantly affect your mobility but will make a difference because you already have some speed and jump increases from Phantom’s passive talents.

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom10

Dark Sight, another option from the Thief class, is a first Job talent to consider.

Dark Sight can help you avoid some boss strikes by turning your character invisible, which makes it effective against specific monsters.

Dark Sight can be used to avoid some boss strikes, but not all of them.

2 nd Job Skills

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom11

The Hero branch of Warriors’ Rage is a fantastic choice for your second job loadout.

Rage raises your attack power and the attack power of everyone in your party while lowering the damage you take.

3 rd Job Skills

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom12

When you acquire third career skills to steal at level 60 or higher , there are two abilities that are valuable to steal since they each have a specific function.

The first is a Bishop’s Holy Symbol, which boosts EXP gained from monsters for all party members, including you.

In order to level up more quickly while training, Holy Symbol is a fantastic skill to have.

The second ability, Dark Surge from the Dark Knights, greatly boosts your final damage.

In addition to being incredibly helpful for bossing, Dark Surge is sometimes a superior training tool than Holy Symbol.

The total EXP gained every time will probably be larger if you can utilize a skill like Cannon Bazooka to kill enemies with just one skill use as opposed to two and get the Holy Symbol bonus.

Use the damage Battle Analysis tool in-game to determine if Dark Surge or Holy Symbol is best for you in a certain situation.

4 th Job Skills

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom13

For your fourth job loadout, you should steal two skills.

One is Blade Masters’ Final Cut, which boosts your final damage by 40% for 60 seconds.

Final Cut is an effective bossing buff, however you should only use it during training if you have trouble killing foes.

For training, you should choose the second talent to steal if you can deal enough damage on your own.

The second talent you should steal for your fourth job loadout is Cannon Bazooka from Cannon Masters.

This skill is fantastic for training because it delivers a ton of damage to eight monsters at once and has a huge hitbox.

The Hyper Skills

maplestory m guide how what skill to steal as a phantom14

You only have two slots for your hyper skill loadout, but there are three hyper skills that are worthwhile taking into account.

One of them is for training, while the other two are for bossing.

The first hyper skill you can use in your hyper skills loadout is Bullseye Shot from Marksmen.

Bullseye Shot is an effective bossing buff because it boosts your critical rate, critical damage, damage, and ignores enemy protection for 30 seconds. This buff works exceptionally well when combined with burst.

As a second option for your hyper skill loadout, choose Sacrosanctity from the Paladins.

When you are facing challenging assaults or are unable to evade because you are bursting, Sacrosanctity makes you impenetrable for 30 seconds, making it excellent for bossing.

Your play style and the particular boss will determine whether Sacrosanctity or Bullseye Shot is the better choice.

Inferno Aura, possessed by Fire Poison Arch Mages, is the third hyper skill to be taken. The Inferno Aura is excellent for training because it damages all nearby adversaries once every three seconds for 30 seconds.

MapleStory Phantom Skill Build Guide

MapleStory Phantom Skill Build Guide

Phantom is a MapleStory class that has a unique mechanic allowing it to steal skills from other classes. Phantom is one of the most popular classes in MapleStory and is a part of the Heroes characters released. With Phantom's ability to steal skills, it allows them to be very versatile characters and can change their loadout depending on what's needed.

Phantom Overview

Phantom first job skill build, phantom second job skill build, phantom third job skill build, phantom fourth job skill build, phantom hyper skill build, phantom fifth job skill build, phantom skills to steal.

Phantom was released in MapleStory Patch Renegades: Phantom V112 patch in 2012. Phantom is the only class that has the unique ability to steal skills from Explorer Jobs in MapleStory. The steal ability allows Phantom to copy a skill into their loadout, with the ability to store multiple skills for each job advancement. Phantom needs to find an Explorer job in the map, use their Skill Swipe skill and right click on the character they wish to steal skill from.

Phantom is part of the MapleStory Heroes classes , which include: Aran , Evan , Mercedes , Phantom , Luminous and Shade .

This allows Phantom to steal useful skills like Holy Symbol for extra EXP, the best mobbing skills and other buff skills to increase their damage. Playing Phantom is extremely fun and is only let down by it's low base damage. They can customize their loadout so that their skills complement the map they are training on; one of Phantom's best skills to steal is the Cannon Bazooka that is great for horizontal maps.

Phantoms that get to end-game need a lot of funding to deal the damage required to solo some of the toughest bosses in the game compared to other classes. They do have lots of useful bossing skills though; with 3 different i-frame skills their survivability is second-to-none. They have great mobility to help dodge attacks too, with their dark sight they can steal from explorer Thieves, Shroud Walk and Penombre.

  • Weapon : Cane
  • Job : Thief
  • Class : Hero
  • Shared Cash Shop Inventory : Heroes: Luminous, Phantom, Aran, Shade, Mercedes
  • Legion Block : Mesos Obtained (1%/2%/3%/4%/5%)
  • Link Skill : Phantom Instinct (+20% Critical Rate)
  • Primary Stat : LUK
  • Inner Ability : 20% Boss Damage

You can max all of your skills in first job. Follow this build:

  • Double Entendre (+1), Phantom Swiftness (+2)
  • Phantom Swiftness (10)
  • Double Entendre (MAX)
  • Phantom Swiftness (MAX)
  • Impeccable Memory I (MAX)
  • Feather Foot (MAX)

First Job steal skills: Haste , Dark Sight , Cardinal Deluge

First job Phantom's main attacking skill is Double Entendre. It's not the best mobbing skill so you might find it quite slow leveling up to 30. You want to max Phantom Swiftness as early as possible for that better mobility to get around maps faster. Impeccable Memory I allows you to steal skills from 1st job explorers, the best skill is probably Haste/Dark Sight buff from Thieves. If you can find a Pathfinder, you may find using Cardinal Deluge in 1st job is a better mobbing skill.

Skill Description & Overview

You can max all of your skills in second job. Follow this build:

  • Calling Card (+1), Cane Mastery (+2)
  • Cane Mastery (5)
  • Cane Booster (6)
  • Calling Card (MAX)
  • Cane Mastery (MAX)
  • Carte Blanche (MAX)
  • Devil's Luck (MAX)
  • Impeccable Memory II (MAX)
  • Cane Booster (MAX)
  • Mille Cartes (MAX)

Second Job steal skills: Rage , Heal

Second job Phantom's get a new mobbing skill called Calling Card. You also get access to Carte Blanche, which triggers an additional card to attack enemies to help with DPS. You want to get your Cane Booster up to a decent level as soon as possible to increase attack speed. You can also use Green Attack Potions from Monster Park. Mille Cartes is a secondary attack skill which is rather useless. Second Job Phantom's should try to steal the skill Rage from Warriors. Heal is another alternative but this isn't very useful until you get to bossing.

You can max all of your skills in third job. Follow this build:

  • Blason (MAX)
  • Impeccable Memory III (MAX)
  • Piercing Vision (MAX)
  • Mist Mask (MAX)
  • Bad Luck Ward (MAX)
  • Final Feint (MAX)
  • Rapier Wit (MAX)

Third Job steal skills: Cross Surge , Holy Symbol, Arrow Platter

Blason is your new mobbing skill. With Carte Blanche and a high critical rate, Blason is actually a decent mobbing skill for clearing maps. Phantom in third job gets access to some useful skills; Final Feint is basically a second-life skill that when you die auto-revives you. Mist Ward will increase your avoidability so that you will barely get hit by low-level mobs. Rapier Wit is pretty useless, unless you like rush-type skills. Third Job Phantoms should look to steal Cross Surge from Dark Knight Explorers (warriors), as this skill will greatly increase final damage. If your damage is high, you can also steal Holy Symbol from a Bishop for extra EXP.

You can max all of your skills in fourth job. Follow this build:

  • Mille Aiguilles (10)
  • Impeccable Memory IV (MAX)
  • Carte Noir (MAX)
  • Cane Expert (MAX)
  • Priere D'Aria (MAX)
  • Maple Warrior (MAX)
  • Miles Aiguilles (MAX)
  • Tempest (MAX)
  • Penombre (MAX)
  • Vol D'Ame (MAX)
  • Hero's Will (MAX)

Fourth Job steal skills: Cannon Bazooka , Final Cut, Showdown

Mille Aiguilles is your new attacking skill. This skill has gone through many nerfs and upgrades, with a new upgrade coming in a job balancing patch in 2021. That being said, for mobbing, your best using Impeccable Memory IV and stealing Cannon Bazooka from Cannon Master . Alternatives are Showdown from Night Lord, as that gives increased EXP and Drop rate. Final Cut is great for bossing, as it gives a massive damage boost. Vol D'ame is very useful against bosses that weapon cancel and help speed up boss fights.

Hyper skills are available at level 140. You get Hyper Skill Points as you level towards 200, but not enough to max all the skills, so choose wisely. These skills mostly help increase the damage of your current skills.

  • Tempest - Reinforce
  • Tempest - Cooldown Cutter
  • Mille Aiguilles - Reinforce
  • Mille Aiguilles - Extra Target
  • Mille Aiguilles - Guardbreak
  • Carte Rose Finale
  • Heroic Memories
  • Impeccable Memory V

Impeccable Memory V allows you to steal a Hyper Skill from another Explorer Class. Recommend Hyper Skills to steal are: Bullseye Shot, Sacrosancity

Upon reaching level 200, you will now have access to the V Matrix, which acts as your new fifth job skills. Each class gets their own skills to use, along with boosting nodes to increase the damage of existing skills. To obtain new skills, you open up items called Nodestones, which drop from every mob in Arcane River . You have limited number of slots in your V Matrix, so you want to obtain perfect nodes for maximize your character's damage.

Phantom's Nodes should include:

  • Luck Of The Draw
  • Ace In The Hole
  • Phantom's Mark
  • Trinode: Mille Aiguilles, Tempest, Carte Blanc
  • Trinode: Impeccable Memory IV, Impeccable Memory III, Impeccable Memory II
  • Trinode: Rose Carte, Impeccable Memory I, Penombre

All 5th Job classes should try to also obtain these:

  • Decent Holy Symbol
  • Decent Sharp Eyes
  • Decent Speed Infusion
  • Weapon Aura
  • Freud's Wisdom
  • Last Resort
  • Impenetrable Skin
  • Maple World Goddess Blessing

Phantom can steal skills from Explorer classes only. Phantom can only use one skill for each job advancement available and one hyper skill. They are able to store multiple job skills in their skill loadout for easy switching.

  • Cardinal Deluge
  • Cardinal Blast
  • Cross Surge
  • Holy Symbol
  • Arrow Platter
  • Cannon Bazooka

Hyper Skill

  • Sacrosancity
  • Bullseye Shot

Description [ ]

Perhaps the most convenient class of all, Phantom has the ability to copy skills of other Explorer players (except Jett ) thanks to Impeccable Memory I , II , III , and IV . Skill Swipe is used to copy skills from other players and Loadout is used to rearrange them. Loadout can only carry four 1st and 2nd job skills, three 3rd job skills, and two 4th job skills, and Phantom can only have one skill from each of the four jobs active at a time. Impeccable Memory's level also determines the level of the stolen skill. However, copied skills are equivalent to the other player's skill level, unless of course they exceed Impeccable Memory's level.

Another convenient ability is To The Skies , which allows Phantom to return to Lumiere . The airship doubles as an NPC service area and an intercontinental station, allowing Phantom to restock, replenish, etc. while allowing him to travel all over the world from anywhere. Additionally, the ship's transport time is much shorter than other transports, taking only three minutes regardless of destination distance.

Phantom also has high dodge rate (sometimes mistakenly written as avoidability) and critical hit rate.

Miser Mastery [ ]

Enhancements require the corresponding V Skill to be leveled to max and equipped. Final Damage bonuses from Enhancements increase linearly each level, with a jump at levels 10, 20, and 30.

  • Pet Auto HP is very important to have.
  • Stay under her during breath phase to avoid her using breath.
  • During the suction phase, you may go behind her just as she is about to use the attack, and continue attacking from there.
  • During the Damage Reflect stage, you will know when she is about to DR by the waves of her hands, and you may steal the first DR, though be weary as she does use it a second time.
  • During the seduce stage, use Mihile Link skill to prevent knockback from the hearts, you may use Rose Carte Finale to trigger their attack to clear the path.
  • Obtain an odd amount of HP in order to be able to tank 1hko attacks from Red Pierre.
  • Get Pierre into a corner and attack him from there until he transforms to Blue or Red Pierre, this way you get to this stage of the fight without having to deal with Purple Pierre's push attacks and key reverse.
  • Dark Sight can avoid the dropping clown hats if used right before.
  • Avoid the touch damage from the front of spinning Blue Pierre.
  • Stop dealing damage when the HP bar meets the area between your death count and timer box, or else you will go into the split phase.
  • Wait for Blue Pierre and prepare to bind and burst him down.
  • If Pierre splits, you will have to get both Pierre's HP down, die to remove your hat color, wait for them to switch colors, respawn, and kill both at the same time (it's recommended to wait for Red Pierre to reappear prior to starting to attack both).
  • Keep your distance away from him to avoid his stun attacks.
  • Depending on where Von Bon stands, white colored clocks cause the timer to decrease, and black colored clocks cause the timer to increase.
  • You may jump up or duck to avoid his 1hko orb attack.
  • Be cautious when using skills that involve the ground, as he may use his jump attack.
  • If you die after Von Bon starts summoning the portal, you will have to wait for him, be weary as this drains the timer.
  • Dark Sight works to avoid the damage from the falling obstacles
  • Avoid getting to close when Von Bon is using his push wings attack animation.
  • Avoid standing where Vellum approaches from the ground.
  • If you are having trouble avoiding the stun debris, go into Dark Sight in between attacks to avoid them.
  • When avoiding tails, move slightly away from their spawn hit box so that you still reach Chaos Vellum to continue attacking when another one spawns.
  • When Chaos Vellum is using the fireball attacks, move towards and close to him to avoid them.
  • Use Mihile's Link Skill during the poison stage to avoid getting knock backed by the poison into the tails and or stun debris.
  • If you are on the other side when he is about to use the breath attack, use Shroud Walk to quickly get to the other side. If anything, you can sacrifice Luck of the Draw for its brief invincibility.

  • During the first stage, avoid stun and seduce breath by going back and forth behind the way Gollux’s face is facing.
  • Use Ace in the Hole to take care of the golems.
  • During the second stage, go to the left edge of the left side platform and position yourself so that Mille Aiguilles just reaches Gollux. Continue using Ace in the Hole to clear the golems.
  • Avoid Gollux’s hands by ducking down on the second stage platform.
  • Use all your burst damage buffs and save Luck of the Draw to burst down Gollux on its third stage.
  • Use Dark Sight and Heal to your advantage, though be weary when Magnus uses the undead effect on you, where if you use Heal, it would kill you.
  • Depending on how long you take to kill, save your bind for the last phase of Magnus. If you take longer to kill Magnus than the cooldown of your Erda Nova, use it right away and again during his last phase to burst him down.
  • If your bind is on cooldown when Luck of the Draw is available for use, save it for when Magnus goes up in the air to use his laser attack, as it can still reach him and he will not interrupt you if you stand underneath him.
  • Stay to the outermost of the aura as much as you can in order to dodge his attacks early in battle.
  • Try to keep Magnus in the middle of the map, if you bring him to either sides of the map, you risk getting stunned by the gas.
  • Having the 8 second Resistance invincibility Link Skill is really helpful here due to the constant respawns.
  • Do not spend too much time rebuffing, only use your most important buffs.

  • Use Mihilie’s Link Skill to avoid knockback from the falling golems.
  • Use Heal when possible and change Judgment Draw to Manual when landing on a healing card for increased survivability.
  • If a dragon approaches at either side of the map, use Shroud Walk to quickly get there. If there are many golems in the way, use Final Cut for brief invincibility if available.
  • If you use Tempest and are on the lower side of the map and Lucid goes up to the point Tempest no longer reaches her, drop down to the map so that you teleport up in hopes to reach her again.
  • Use Shroud Walk to your advantage when dodging slashes and lasers.
  • Be cautious when using Luck of the Draw; it often stops hitting due to her moving out of range. Due to the slow walking speed while using the skill, it is hard to retarget her.

  • Use Penombre to doge the rotating lasers in stage 1. You teleport to the other side without getting hit by the lasers when doing so.
  • Avoid getting hit by falling objects when using Tempest since the stun will interrupt you and Tempest will go into cooldown.
  • Try not to stand underneath the platforms when they fall, otherwise you will not have a place to stand on when lasers come. Keep in mind Magic Guard no longer works on lasers in Lotus.
  • Use Heal when possible and avoid getting hit by too many falling objects at once.
  • To successfully doge the purple balls, strategically look at where the previous balls hit the floor and avoid other spots.
  • Try not to acquire 7 seals, or else you will die and an additional sword will spawn. Cleanse whenever possible, since you may get hit and not be able to cleanse while trying to.
  • If a sword locks on you and you get hit, the sword will lay down a damage area that you will have to avoid.
  • When Damien goes up in the air and drops the fireballs, jump and cast Ace in the Hole in the air to reach him. You may use Dark Sight to not take damage from the fireballs, but it is more strategic to cast Ace in the Hole and go out of Dark Sight so that you deal damage.
  • When Damien uses an attack with a big area of effect, give it a second so you do not get hit. His attacks are delayed by a little bit. If you get hit by his attacks, you will acquire a seal.
  • Do not stand in the blue orbs, or you will get damage over time and your damage will be reduced to 10%.
  • When Damien is casting the fire tornado, run to the side he is furthest away from, or stand where Damien is at himself.
  • When there is more than one blue orb, you can attempt to kill the other orbs through Venom Burst . You need to use Venom Burst when Damien is near the orbs to spread the damage over time effect to the orbs. Use Venom Burst again on the orbs when they have the damage over time effect to kill them.
