NEWS and Full Review: The Market at Ale & Compass in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

By AJ 15 Comments

We’re coming to you today from The Market at Ale & Compass !

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Great! But where’s Ale & Compass?” The Market at Ale & Compass is located in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You may already be familiar with Ale & Compass Lounge , which sits near the Captain’s Grille (which is currently closed for refurbishment — guests can enjoy Captain’s Grille dishes at its temporary location in Ariel’s ).

The Market at Ale & Compass, however, is located right by the Fittings & Fairings gift shop (which is… umm, also closed for refurbishment 😉 , with a reopening planned for July. Change is the name of the game ‘round these parts!).

With the exception of the Yacht & Beach Club’s pool bar, Hurricane Hanna’s , the Yacht Club has been without a Counter Service option, with guests relying on nearby choices at the neighboring BoardWalk Inn and Beach Club.

The Market at Ale & Compass is here to change that… and it’s been a long time coming. Step inside!

The Market at Ale & Compass has been established in half of what was the Fittings & Fairings gift shop (the other portion of the space will once again operate as a merchandise spot once it reopens in July).

The Market at Ale & Compass

One of the reasons the Yacht Club greatly needed a Counter Service option is that it is a Convention Resort as well as a Disney World guest resort. We’re talking lots of folks in and out on the way to conferences and meetings in need of a place to grab a quick bite without hiking over to the Beach Club Marketplace or Boardwalk Bakery .

Market Hours

Market Hours

For that reason, the setting is very much function over form, with the food options front and center in a fairly simplistic, minimalist setting, with wooden tables and baskets providing a few rustic touches, a la an outdoor marketplace.

Though the emphasis is on allowing guests to get in and get on their way, there is also a section of tables and chairs. All pretty basic. (Note that there is currently no outdoor seating.)

In many ways, it’s the food itself that provides most of the “decor.”

So let’s take a look at those options next.

With an apparent focus on the convention crowd, the food at The Market is primarily grab-and-go style eats.

That said, you will also encounter a menu with hot offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Now, for a closer look. In all areas from the pre-packaged grab-and-go to the cold refrigerated selections and so on, you’ll notice some differences compared to what we’ve found in the past at Disney food courts. Even though The Market carries standard choices such as Lay’s brand chips, granola bars, and cereals, you’ll also spy lots of higher-end brands among them.

Coke Freestyle customizable drinks are also an option. By the way, did you know you can mix your drink flavors, even with the whole Rapid Fill refillable resort mug and cup situation?

Whew!  So, that’s the setup! I ended up trying a couple of sandwiches, pastries, and a few “somethings sweet” from the desserts.

Desserts

First things first: when you have you ever known me to resist a Cinnamon Roll ?

Cinnamon Roll

Cinnamon Roll

The Market’s version is just your basic, other than that it’s quite light and flaky; not dense at all. And this one was notably fresh.

Cinnamon Roll

I was also intrigued by the Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips from the bakery case.

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

As it turns out, the chocolate provided nearly all the flavor, as the banana bread itself was pretty bland.

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

Cast Members shared that the Ham and Cheddar Cheese served on a Pretzel Roll has been the most popular of the hot sandwiches.

Ham and Cheddar Cheese on a Pretzel Roll

Ham and Cheddar Cheese on a Pretzel Roll

I assume that’s because of said pretzel roll, which is always a draw, but honestly there’s nothing remarkable about this one.

Ham and Cheddar Cheese on a Pretzel Roll

I much preferred the other hot sandwich I ordered: the Spicy Italian Panini , which is capicola (smoked pork shoulder), mortadella (an Italian lunch meat), ham, provolone cheese, and giardinere (a vegetable and herb blend) served on a baguette.

Spicy Italian Panini

Spicy Italian Panini

Two things stand out with this sandwich: first, this thing is PACKED with flavor from the interesting combination of meats.

Spicy Italian Panini

Second, this sandwich IS, indeed, spicy, thanks to the giardinere (which typically includes serrano peppers in the mix).

Spicy Italian Panini

Even though The Market is not meant to be destination dining, I would come back specifically for this sandwich. So that’s saying something.

Since they went beyond your typical cupcakes and ramekin offerings, I decided to try three of the desserts.

Desserts on the Tray

Desserts on the Tray

The Chocolate Coffee Mousse a bit of a nice surprise. I’m not a chocoholic, really, but this rich mousse with its punch of mocha flavor was much better than I expected.

Chocolate Coffee Mousse

Chocolate Coffee Mousse

While I wasn’t particularly wowed by any of the desserts, as far as chocolate dome options in Disney World go, this was the best one I’d tried. (Though it still wouldn’t be on my must-eat list._

The Apple Mousse is definitely cute and eye-catching.

Apple Mousse

Apple Mousse

Apple Mousse

It’s an apple mousse covered in a thick glaze, served on top of a bit of apple compote above the crust.

Apple Mousse

Its looks are the most memorable thing about it, though, and there’s no reason to go for it over the chocolate.

My final dessert was the Lemon Cheesecake , which is topped with a blackberry mousse and a blackberry foam with a gritty texture that I didn’t particularly care for.

Lemon Cheesecake

Lemon Cheesecake

The base is simply your typical lemon cheesecake that you’ll see in other spots around property. Decent flavor, but nothing special. Additionally, it’s really small for what you pay for. Pass.

Still, the dessert options at least differed from what I anticipated, as did many of the selections packed into the space. I’ll be curious to see how the choices go over with the resort’s guests, and we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if any changes take place to the offerings in the future.

The Market at Ale and Compass is what it is. Like I said, it’s not destination dining. In all fairness, though, it’s not intended to be. It’s a simple convenience for guests at the resort, and a solid option primarily focused on serving convention traffic. This is why it was interesting to spot some fairly unique choices and decent variety in what otherwise is a mostly an amped up grab-and-go. In that sense, it reminds me a lot of Cafe Rix in Coronado Springs Resort — another resort that hosts lots of convention guests. The Market and Cafe Rix both fulfill a basic role of providing easy access meals, but in both cases you can also find at least one or two items that are somewhat unique and above par. And since it’s high time that the Yacht Club had a Counter Service option of its own, we’re glad to say “Welcome” to The Market at Ale & Compass.

Nosh or Not?

Eat Here If:

  • You’re staying at the Yacht Club or Beach Club
  • You’re in a hurry and need a hot sandwich or a pastry
  • You love a good Italian pressed sandwich
  • You really need Halo Top

Don’t Eat Here If:

  • You’re staying anywhere else on property
  • You’re looking for very kid-friendly food
  • You want atmosphere/ambiance, or you’re looking to make memories with your food choices during this meal

That beautifully themed, unique shop, ripped out and replaced with this pitiful, pathetic “eating area”?? It’s an embarrassment, Disney. How the mighty have fallen.

They didn’t rip out the gift shop for this. It doesn’t sound like they took out anything. It’s near the gift shop, which is closed for refurb, and the Ale & Compass lounge.

Lynne, I echo your thoughts 100%. I showed the photos to my wife yesterday and we just shook our heads. I’m holding out hope that the “rehab” isn’t complete and there will yet be a shop that houses the very nice brands that once filled Fittings and Fairings. Not to mention Ale & Compass. I did so enjoy that little bar area. Whether to have a cocktail, or just relax. Frank

May 24, 2017 at 6:40 am

Meg, I was there last month. The gift shop, at that time was in the lobby, in the spot where they put the Christmas train display. They didn’t have much. Definitely didn’t have any Tommy Bahama or Vineyard Vine lines. Also at that time, the entire Fittings & Fairings was shutdown for this rehab. They had to take something out to put this in. Frank

May 24, 2017 at 8:19 am

Frank, could you tell if this took up the ENTIRE gift shop? I know the area where the ladies fine clothing once was, is now table and chairs. But I had trouble deciding if the rehab went all the way back to mens wear and fitting room. Thanks. Lynne

May 24, 2017 at 8:32 am

Lynne, I don’t know. I’m going back for a few days in early June… but until then I won’t have the information. Hopefully, someone reading who can get over there will fill us in. When I spoke to the CM at the “lobby gift shop” they “sounded” like they would be bringing back the clothes but I’m not sure. One has to wonder if they aren’t trying to get it all to the Springs. Can’t imagine though they’d mess w the shops in the Grand Floridian. I REALLY hope they don’t ruin Ale & Compass, or if they do, they staff Martha’s Vineyard better. I’ve had a tough time getting served there. I even go up to the bar and wait for my order and take it back to my table. Ahh, for the old days at Riptide in the Beach Club or Crew’s Cup. Almost an entirely new Crew there. Frank

May 24, 2017 at 8:43 am

Thanks Frank, I appreciate the reply. We’ve always been happy at the Crew’s Cup, with Martha’s running a very close second. Now, my biggest fear is what will be happening to the Captains Grill or “The Galley” to me. I’m afraid it will turn out looking like our local “Culvers”.

' src=

May 24, 2017 at 10:37 am

Lynne and Frank — I wouldn’t get too worried. They seem to have expanded the Fittings and Fairings space altogether, so the space dedicated to merchandise will be the same size as it always was — or larger. And it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if all of the same brands and merch came back. No reason to be concerned yet.

' src=

May 24, 2017 at 12:20 pm

Nice that they added a QS, but I am not getting a vibe from this place at all that it is in or near a Yacht Club themed resort. It looks like a generic cafeteria like the one at my work. I hope this is not a recurring thing, this is the 2nd or 3rd food rehab on property to be done “minimalist”, or stripped of the theme.

May 24, 2017 at 2:23 pm

Lynne, I think there is only one hold over left from a longstanding crew there. Everyone else is new. As for Martha’s Vineyard, every time we go there, we never get waited on. I started going to the bar as I mentioned, but it gets old. Great venue though. Haven’t eaten at the Captain’s Grill in ages, but I may want to go to Ariel’s just for old times sake. Loved it as a seafood restaurant in the day.

AJ, Hope you are right. Thought has crossed my mind that Disney wants everything higher ticket downtown. Seems you get an Annual Pass discount if you buy Tommy at a resort, but not at Downtown, er Disney Springs. Frank

May 25, 2017 at 11:42 am

We were at the Boardwalk Inn last month. My wife made the comment that our room wasn’t as “Disney” as she remembered it in past years. We are staying at the Beach Club in an upcoming trip. It will be interesting to see what that looks like. And why no clock in the room at the Boardwalk??? I had to call the Boardwalk Guest Services to request a clock. They said they aren’t “standard” anymore????? Frank

May 25, 2017 at 11:43 am

Sorry, I was writing that last post TO Jen.

' src=

June 22, 2017 at 10:34 am

Once again, Disney rips out a beautifully, uniquely themed area and replaces it with an antiseptic, non-themed, serviceable unit that I could experience in a local hospital. Why?

So help me god Mickey in his little speedboat had better still be there or I will come uncorked on somebody.

Review: The New Market Quick Service at the Yacht Club

By Dave Shute

THE MARKET AT DISNEY’S YACHT CLUB RESORT

disney world yacht club marketplace

A new quick service venue opened at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in mid-May. I checked it out then, and then again in my June visit.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Part of a renovation (not yet complete) of the Yacht Club’s gift shop area, the new venue provides shelf stable snacks and breakfast goods, frozen treats, fruit, pastries, drinks, a coffee bar, cold packaged food, an eating area, and hot food. All are successful except the hot food, which is quite limited.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Traditionally the biggest weakness of Disney World’s Epcot resorts  has been their quick-service offerings. There’s a bit at the back of the Beach Club gift shop , more at the Stormalong Bay pool bar and grill, Hurricane Hanna’s , and a bit more at the Bakery along the Boardwalk. (Links are all to overviews on Disney’s site.)

The opening of the new Yacht Club venue, the Market, adds one more minor option among a bunch of other minor options. It’s better than nothing, but still quite limited.

disney world yacht club marketplace

On one side as you enter is the coffee bar and the area where hot food is prepared heated.

disney world yacht club marketplace

The coffee bar—Joffrey’s coffee—has the full range of coffee options.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Beyond the coffee and grill space is a seating area.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Deeper in the Market is a mix of shelf stable snacks, fruit, pastries, and breakfast items. Other than maybe the fruit, this is comparable to what you’ll find in many resort gift shops, but better merchandised.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Along a wall are freestyle refillable mug machines…

disney world yacht club marketplace

…and coffee, hot chocolate, tea, a toaster, and such.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Around the corner is a microwave and frozen treats.

disney world yacht club marketplace

On the opposite wall is the cold case and hot case.

disney world yacht club marketplace

A closer view of the cold case, with drinks on the left and sandwiches, salads and such on the right.

disney world yacht club marketplace

The hot case has a small selection of ready-to-eat cooked food.

disney world yacht club marketplace

This feta and spinach pastry came from it—it was delicious.

disney world yacht club marketplace

The same hot food can also heated to order behind the counter. The limited hot food menu is above.

disney world yacht club marketplace

My Ham and Cheddar Sandwich came from behind the counter looking like this.

disney world yacht club marketplace

Here it is out of its wrapping. This is likely a good choice for kids, as there is no particular taste for them to object to. I mixed hot sauce and mayonnaise together into a sort of gesture towards horseradish. With that it was fine.

The limited set of hot food means that, other than the drinks, there’s not much here beyond what you might find in a Disney World gift shop anyway. As an addition it is welcome, but it does little to make up for the general lack of quick service offerings in the Epcot resorts.

Note that Josh has a longer and more detailed review of the offerings at The Market here .

This counter location was needed. But wow, what a sanitary uninspiring space. Being a WDW fanatic, I generally go out of my on every trip to visit all things new, no matter how small. But I think you’ve taken care of me here, no need to go see that.

Jeff, definitely not worth a special trip!

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Review (Is it worth it?)

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is one of the most beautiful and convenient hotels in all of Walt Disney World. With its classy design, enormous pool, and prime location, it’s easy to see why the Yacht Club at Disney World is such a highly sought after place to stay.

My family and I have visited numerous hotels on Disney property, but the Yacht Club always keeps us coming back for more. We love the close proximity to Disney’s Boardwalk, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

The multiple transportation options are a huge plus, especially for those who don’t like to solely rely on Disney buses. And of course we have to mention the Yacht Club’s pool, Stormalong Bay. This elaborate resort swimming area is arguably the best pool at the Walt Disney World Resort!

If you’re still not quite sold on the Yacht Club at Disney World or if you would like more information, continue reading below. In this post, we will cover everything you need to know about this deluxe Disney resort , including the activities, restaurants, and rooms available at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

(This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small compensation at no extra cost to you. Please see my disclosure policy at the bottom of this page for more details.)

Yacht Club Restaurants

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is full of all different types of restaurants. Since this hotel shares dining options with its sister resorts, you’ll find even more places to eat within a short walk of your room.

blue walls and club chairs with sign reading Ale and Compass Lounge

These are the Yacht Club restaurants you will find just a short stroll away:

  • Ale and Compass – sit-down restaurant in the Yacht Club that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (also available to-go)
  • The Market at Ale and Compass – quick service restaurant at Yacht Club with to-go items and menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse – fine dining restaurant at the Yacht Club that is open for dinner
  • Crew’s Cup Lounge – bar at the Yacht Club that features a small dinner menu and full bar
  • Cape May Cafe – offers a character meal breakfast buffet and sit-down dinner with no characters
  • Beach Club Marketplace – features to-go items and menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Beaches and Cream – available for lunch and dinner with reservations highly recommended
  • Martha’s Vineyard – offers appetizers and full bar
  • Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill – pool restaurant with full bar and lunch/dinner options

Furthermore, the Yacht Club is located just a short walk away from Disney’s Boardwalk , where you’ll find additional restaurants and bars.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is home to the most popular pool on Disney property. It’s such a hit that you’ll find cast members handing out wristbands at the entrance so that only hotel guests can enter.

pirate ship water slide

The main pool, Stormalong Bay, features a large sand bottom swimming area that’s super shallow and great for toddlers and little kids. There’s also a lazy river that’s a fan favorite in my household.

Guests can also enjoy other large swimming areas at Stormalong Bay, including an activities section where you’ll find games like pool volleyball. Stormalong Bay offers a large waterslide as well as a smaller slide that empties into a shallow pool.

empty pool and clubhouse at Yacht Club

In addition to Stormalong Bay, the Yacht Club in Disney World features a “quiet” pool that is seldom busy. This is a great spot to relax or swim laps.

Rooms

My family and I love the nautical decor and ambience of the Yacht Club guest rooms. Additionally, we appreciate that the rooms offer full balconies. In our post on Disney’s Beach Club vs Yacht Club , you’ll read about why these balconies are a major pro for Yacht Club compared to its sister resort.

toilet room, shower, and vanity and Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club features standard rooms and club level rooms. If you book a room with Club Level benefits, you get access to the Regatta Club. Here, you’ll find food and beverages offered at certain times throughout the day.

2 Queen beds and day bed at Yacht Club

Guest rooms at the Yacht Club come with views of the lake, pool, garden, or hotel rooftop/parking lot. These rooms typically feature 1 king bed or 2 queens. Some of them also offer a daybed. This means that if you book a room with 2 queens plus a daybed, you can sleep a family of five!

Prices at Yacht Club

Since Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is classified as a deluxe hotel at Disney World, you’ll notice that the prices are higher than at some of the other hotels. This is because the Yacht Club offers deluxe room space, extra amenities, and a prime location.

We will explain all the significance of all of these perks in more detail below, but it’s important to note that Disney’s Yacht Club truly offers a deluxe experience. The updated guest rooms feature plenty of space, including private balconies. Plus, the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of other Disney hotels, restaurants, theme parks, and more.

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

If you would really like to experience the location, amenities, and entertainment at the Yacht Club without the hefty price tag, we suggest booking a room at the sister hotel through David’s Vacation Club Rentals. You will be blown away by the cost savings on David’s DVC rental site! We usually save hundreds of dollars per night by using this method to book a room at a deluxe resort.

Just use the cost calculator to see exactly how much a room costs at Yacht Club’s sister resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These villas are located just a short walk away from the Yacht Club hotel, and they both share restaurants, pools, and activities. While you can reserve one of the villas on the official Disney website, we prefer to book through David’s DVC rental website . We have used this reputable company for years to rent timeshare points at Disney villas.

Things to Do at Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits on the same property as two sister resorts: Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These three hotels share restaurants, activities, amenities, and entertainment options with each other.

sand bottom pool with Disney's Yacht Club in background

One of my family’s favorite things about the Yacht Club is that you don’t need to leave the property to have fun. So, if you’re looking for activities at Disney outside of the theme parks, the Yacht Club offers lots of great options. These are our favorite things to do at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort when enjoying a relaxing day at Disney:

See Epcot Fireworks

We recommend walking to the bridge that connects the Disney Boardwalk to the Yacht and Beach Club Resort to enjoy the nightly Epcot fireworks show. You can even grab some ice cream to enjoy during the presentation.

Take a Ride on the Skyliner

Since the Disney Skyliner sits just outside of Epcot’s International Gateway entrance, you can easily access it from the Yacht Club Resort. Just take the short (less than ten minutes) walk toward Epcot and hop on the Skyliner for free!

Book a fishing excursion on Crescent Lake for a truly unique experience while staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Eat Ice Cream

Disney’s Yacht Club is home to one of our favorite WDW restaurants, Beaches and Cream . While reservations can be difficult to snag at this popular dining spot, you can access the walk-up window to order shakes and ice cream to-go.

Dine with Characters

Check out Cape May Cafe during breakfast/brunch when it becomes Minnie’s Beach Bash. Guests can meet Goofy, Minnie, and Donald while they dine at the breakfast buffet.

Float along the Lazy River

The Beach Club’s main pool, Stormalong Bay, offers many fun features. One of our favorite things to do at the pool is to grab (free) tubes to float along the lazy river.

Play Games in the Arcade

Lafferty Place Arcade offers lots of fun games for kids and adults to enjoy. This is a particularly great place to spend time at Disney World when it’s raining.

Ride the Friendship Boats

The Disney water taxi picks up visitors near the Yacht Club. You can ride this free boat to the Disney Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin Resorts, Epcot entrance, and Hollywood Studios entrance.

Build Sandcastles

Did you know that Stormalong Bay features a shallow, sand bottom pool and beach area? Kids love digging in the sand and splashing around in this section of the pool.

Make S’mores

Visit the nightly campfire to roast marshmallows during your visit. You can even purchase S’mores Kits for a few dollars.

Rent a Boat

Spend time on Crescent Lake on your own private pontoon boat. Guests can rent boats from the marina near the Yacht Club.

Disney’s Yacht Club offers a large fitness center for guests to use during their stay. Ship Shape Health Club is even open 24 hours a day, so you can squeeze in a workout at any time.

Stroll along the Disney Boardwalk

The Disney Boardwalk is full of amazing activities and entertainment options and is just a short walk away from the Yacht Club.

Play Volleyball

As you walk along the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club, you’ll notice a sand volleyball court. This is a great spot to pick up a game with friends or family. You can also often join a game of volleyball at Stormalong Bay Pool.

Enjoy an Evening Movie

Each evening, Disney Yacht Club guests can watch a movie under the stars. These family friendly movies are a great way to unwind after a long day.

Play Mini Golf

Stroll over to Fantasia Gardens and Miniature Golf Course where you’ll find two 18-hole courses. This fun spot is located near the Dolphin and Swan Resorts.

Swim Some Laps

If you’re looking for a quieter poolside experience to swim laps or relax, check out the leisure pool at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You’ll also have access to the quiet pools at Beach Club and Beach Club Villas.

If you’re not into running or jogging on vacation, you can spend time strolling along the jogging paths at the Yacht Club. You’ll find lots of great spots to take pictures and may even catch some surprises along the way.

Join a Kid Friendly Party at the Pool

Each afternoon, Stormalong Bay hosts fun poolside activities like hula hoop competitions and limbo.

Play Tennis

Guests can find tennis courts near the Yacht Club’s quiet pool.

Zoom Down Waterslides

Stormalong Bay features two separate water slides for guests to enjoy. The main waterslide stretches from the pirate ship and across the Beach Club boardwalk to the main pool.

You’ll also find a smaller slide that’s perfect for toddlers and small kids at the entrance to the main water slide.

Book a Fireworks Cruise

Take in the sights and sounds of the Epcot fireworks show from your pontoon boat on Crescent Lake.

Transportation

As mentioned above, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits in a prime location in the center of all the magic at WDW. If you’re planning to visit one of the theme parks, you’ll be happy to know that several of them are just a super short walk or ride away.

hotel lobby with seating areas

These are our preferred ways to get from Disney’s Yacht Club to other places in Walt Disney World:

  • To Magic Kingdom – You can access the Disney buses in front of the hotel. The ride to Magic Kingdom should take 15-20 minutes.
  • To Epcot – Exit the back of Yacht Club (toward Crescent Lake) and turn left. Epcot sits just under a ten minute walk away!
  • To Hollywood Studios – You have several options for getting to Hollywood Studios. We find the quickest option *usually* is walking. Hollywood Studios sits just a 15 minute walk away from the Yacht Club. You can also ride a Friendship Boat to Hollywood Studios. However, by the time you wait on the boat to make stops, this method can take longer than walking. You could also walk toward Epcot to catch the Disney Skyliner. With this method, you should be able to reach Hollywood Studios in around 25 minutes.
  • To Animal Kingdom – You can hop on one of the Disney buses to get to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. This is roughly a ten-minute ride.
  • To Disney’s Boardwalk – You can make the five-minute walk around Crescent Lake to easily reach the Disney Boardwalk. Guests can also take the Friendship Boat from the Yacht Club lighthouse and ride across the lake to the Boardwalk.
  • To Disney Springs – You can take a bus to Disney Springs, which typically takes 15-20 minutes.

Is Disney’s Yacht Club Worth It?

Since Disney’s Yacht Club may be my personal favorite resort in all of WDW , I would definitely say it’s worth the cost! I love the classy guest rooms and bathrooms with their nautical decor.

The lobby seems to be quieter and calmer than that at other resorts, and the cast members are super friendly and helpful. My family and I enjoy the food at all the restaurants on site, and we appreciate the ability to easily walk from the Yacht Club to the Beach Club’s dining options.

pin for Disney's Yacht Club Resort

The close proximity to Epcot makes the Yacht Club an ideal place to stay since there’s no rush to get to the park in the morning or back “home” at the end of a long day. Plus, you enter and exit through the International Gateway entrance to Epcot (near World Showcase), so the lines to enter are basically nonexistent.

Additionally, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is just a short walk, boat ride, or Skyliner ride away. And if you feel like venturing out, you can take the scenic stroll around Crescent Lake to the Disney Boardwalk.

Ranking the Best Quick Service at Disney World Hotels

Wondering what the best quick service at the Disney World hotels are? We’re ranking the best (and worst) of the restaurants.

There are a lot if really good places to eat in Disney World both inside and outside of the parks. And, we’re not saying that you should choose what Disney World Resort hotel you stay at based on the food offerings there…but we’re also not saying that you shouldn’t. So, if you’re someone who wants to start your day with a quick meal you love or if you’re looking to go out of your way to try something new and delicious without needing a dining reservation, we’re ranking every single quick service restaurant at the Disney World hotels!

The Best Disney World Resort Quick Service Restaurants

20. the market at ale & compass at disney’s yacht club resort.

The Market at Ale & Compass is a great place to stop for a quick bite at Disney’s Yacht Club. It offers a menu with all the essentials for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, the quick service restaurant is located inside a merchandise store, which is a bit odd compared to other Disney Deluxe Resorts. And, because of this, there is no seating inside. So, you’ll need to take it back to your room or find another spot around the resort to eat your meal which can be inconvenient when you’re headed out for a busy park day.

If you are staying here and want something with a wider variety of foods and more seating, walk over to Disney’s BoardWalk where you can find more quick service restaurants nearby.

19. Beach Club Marketplace at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Much like The Market at Ale & Compass, Beach Club Marketplace shares a location with a merchandise store at Disney’s Beach Club. This makes seating less than ideal, though you can find a few tables just outside the entrance and in the nearby Solarium or head outside where there are a few shaded tables. The menu here is pretty standard, but you can find Minnie Waffles here for breakfast instead of the iconic Mickey Waffles that are served at most other quick service restaurants.

18. The Artist’s Palette at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

The Artist’s Palette at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is another hotel quick service restaurant that shares a space with a store. And, there’s only one register here, so you may have to wait in a longer line when you’re checking out with your meal while others check out their souvenirs. You can find a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads, and pizzas for lunch and dinner, but the real standout here is the creative and tasty cupcakes that you can find here.

17. Good’s Food to Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Good’s Food to Go is all about grab-and-go meals that you can take with you at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. The menu at Good’s Food to Go is small, but it covers all the basics with classic American fare like burgers, chicken nuggets, and a few salads and sandwiches. And, the key lime pie is widely known as being one of the best desserts here if you can find it. However, only outdoor seating is available and tables can fill up fast making it a less ideal spot to grab a quick bite during popular dining times or inclement weather.

16. Everything POP Shopping & Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

As the only restaurant at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Everything POP Shopping & Dining offers multiple food stations with food that is – all things considered – pretty basic. While there are several stations to choose from, the menu is not particularly adventurous or gourmet. However, this could be a good fit for a family with lots of different food preferences or picky eaters who prefer simple options.

15. End Zone Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

End Zone Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is a no-frills food court-style restaurant with a menu that almost anyone can find at least something to eat. You won’t be treated to anything fancy here, but with a Loaded Tocho Bowl on the menu for breakfast, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Just keep in mind that this is the only restaurant at the hotel, so lines for the food stations and to check out at the registers can be long during peak meal times and it can be hard to find a seat.

14. World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

With a cinema-theme to fit in with the theming, World Premiere Food Court is another basic food court-style offering at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. You can expect to find basic American fare at several different food stations to keep you satisfied before, during, or after a day at the theme parks.

13. Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort

Intermission Food Court is similar to the other quick service offerings at Disney’s All-Star Resorts featuring several food stations that offer classic American dishes. This can be great for families with picky eaters who want simple, recognizable meals, but it doesn’t compare to some other quick service restaurants at Disney hotels which have menus with a wider range of flavors.

12. Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

As another food court-style restaurant on the list, Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort offers a variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with themed dining areas inspired by popular Disney movies such as The Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo , and The Little Mermaid. While standard food court eats are on the menu throughout the day, you’ll often find unique dishes such as Mongolian Stir-Fry Chicken as well. This makes it a great option for those looking for something a little different from typical theme park fare. However, the crowds during peak meal times and long mobile order wait times, make dining here less ideal if you’re in a rush.

11. Roaring Fork at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

It’s the menu that makes Roaring Fork at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge stand out. For breakfast, you can find unique offerings like a Blueberry Cinnamon Roll and Grizzly Bear Claw. And, the lunch and dinner menu is filled with barbecue classics like the 10-Hour Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich. Plus, a stop here isn’t complete without checking out the cupcakes, as it’s known for having some of the best!

Roaring Fork also stays open a bit later than other resort quick service restaurants, giving anyone staying here a place to eat if you stay at the parks until they close.

10. Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has a unique street market atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. And, the menu fits with the Caribbean atmosphere, featuring several Island-inspired dishes such as Jerk Chicken Bowls and Yuca & Plantain Chips. There are also classic American offerings, making it a great place for families with a few picky eaters and a few adventurous eaters.

9. Riverside Mill Food Court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside

Riverside Mill Food Court is set up like – you guessed it – a food court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. One of the standout features of the Riverside Mill Food Court is the ample indoor seating. With plenty of tables and chairs available, you should have no trouble finding a spot to sit and enjoy your meal.

As for the food itself, the Riverside Mill Food Court offers a mix of standard counter service fare like burgers, pizza, and pasta, as well as some dishes with a Cajun-inspired twist. Whether you are in the mood for a classic cheeseburger or something a little more adventurous like jambalaya, you should be able to find something that suits your tastes.

8. Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

If you are looking for a food court that serves American fare with a southern twist, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is the place to be. This restaurant offers a variety of specialty dishes ranging from old-fashioned burgers to gumbo. And, you can top off your meal with Mickey Beignets nearby from Scat Cat’s Club – Café.

7. Trail’s End Restaurant at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Trail’s End Restaurant transitioned into a quick service offering in 2023, and is a must-visit if you’re staying at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. It is one of the only quick service restaurants in Disney World that offers family meals that serve 2-4 people making it a great option for…well…families! You can also try the famous Strawberry Shortcake that is served at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue here without needing a reservation for the show.

6. El Mercado de Coronado at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

El Mercado de Coronado at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort serves up some of the best Spanish-themed dishes when it comes to quick service dining. If you love Mexican food, this is bound to be one of your favorites.

Most of the food is pre-made in the kitchen and set out as a grab-and-go option, which is convenient when you’re in a rush. However, this can result in your food not being as fresh if you’re grabbing a bite during a less busy time of the day when food may have been sitting out for a bit.

5. The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

The menu is what makes The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge stand out. This quick-service eatery offers a unique blend of African and American cuisine (plus African and international wines!), making it a perfect choice for those looking for something different. And, let’s not forget about the famous Zebra Domes, which are a must-try dessert that can only be found at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

The Mara is also open for late-night dining with a more limited menu.

4. Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Eating with a view of Cinderella Castle? What could be better? Plus, with some of the best house-made Mac and cheese, delicious seasonal jumbo cake pops, and a selection of champagnes for celebrating, it’s no wonder Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa ranks as one of the best quick service restaurants in Disney hotels.

3. Contempo Cafe at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The menu at Contempo Cafe may not be the most adventurous, but it still ranks as one of the best places to eat thanks to its impressive selection of desserts. And, because Disney’s Contemporary Resort is located so close to Magic Kingdom, it’s a great spot to grab a bite if you need a break from the crowds. Plus, you can watch the monorail go by as you eat! Just note that this spot can get loud during popular meal times since it’s located right next to Chef Mickey’s in the open atrium at the resort.

2. Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort

Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort serves up much more than your average theme park food. With an Italian and French-inspired menu, you can try some tasty eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For example, you can start your day off with things like the Croque Madame (French Ham and Swiss with a Fried Egg served with choice of side) or Blueberry-Lemon Pancakes and then head back for a famous Croque Monsieur or Tuna Niçoise Salad. And, you HAVE to try the Parmesan-Herbed Fries.

The restaurant is also in a prime location at the resort just a short walk from the Disney Skyliner station, making it easy to get to the parks after you eat.

1. Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Ranking as the best quick service restaurant in a Disney hotel, Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a must-try when you need a break from the parks (even if you’re not staying here!). This spot is better than your typical hotel restaurant thanks to its Polynesian-inspired menu. While you can find classic entrees like chicken nuggets, the menu here stands out for things like the iconic Tonga Toast at breakfast (Banana-stuffed Sourdough Bread, Battered, Deep-fried, and Dusted with Cinnamon-Sugar served with Bacon or Sausage) and other tropical-inspired eats including Pulled Pork Nachos (the house-made chips served with these are a must-get), Aloha Pork Sandwich, and Thai Coconut Meatballs.

Plus, if you head just outside of the restaurant, you’ll find Pineapple Lanai. It’s the perfect way to top off your meal with some Dole Whip!

Maverick breaks Race to Mackinac record

Other race news.

  • From the Mac Chairman

Posted Jul 14, 2024

CHICAGO, July 14, 2024 – Sanford Burris, William and Ward Kinney’s Maverick team will be etched in Mac Race history as the new race record holder for the fastest Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust in 22 years, earning the honor from Roy E. Disney and Pyewacket .

Maverick also claimed this year’s Royono Trophy for the first racing monohull to finish the 115th edition. This year’s southerly winds and overnight storms created the perfect conditions for an incredible downwind race, which they completed in 22 hours, 24 minutes, 23 seconds, breaking Pyewacket’s record by one hour, six minutes, 11 seconds.

“I will tell you from my perspective, I wish the record had lasted longer, but these things are inevitable,” said Roy P. Disney, Roy E. Disney's son, upon hearing the news. “Given how long it took to break that record shows how difficult a course it is, and what a classic sailboat race it is! Many congratulations to the owner, the crew and the boat, Maverick .”

Burris, from Kirtland, Ohio, sails with his sons and many longtime friends on the carbon fiber Andrews 80 they have spent the past three years upgrading. Joining the 20 crew onboard is Evolution Sails founder Rodney Keenan.

The team celebrated briefly as the Maverick team crossed the Race to Mackinac finish line between Mackinac Island and the Round Island lighthouse … and then kept on sailing.

Maverick is one of 25 sailboats competing in this year’s “Super Mac” race, a combination of the Chicago Mackinac and the Bayview Mackinac races, which means they will continue into Lake Huron, heading south to Port Huron for a total of 565 statute miles (495 nautical miles).

What does it take to break the Race to Mackinac record?

Many factors need to align for record-setting conditions, especially over a 333 statute-mile (289 nautical-mile) race that is well known for multiple weather patterns in a short time span. This has earned the race its moniker as “America’s Offshore Challenge.”

“Most important is a southerly wind direction and strength, combined with advancements in boats and sails,” said Winn Soldani, chair for the 115th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust. “Plus you add in last night’s storms that brought increased breeze and it’s literally the perfect setup for a record-breaking year.

“On behalf of the Chicago Yacht Club, we congratulate the Maverick team for an incredible accomplishment.”

This year, the Race put a special emphasis on encouraging and attracting new boats and sailors. Across the 250-strong fleet, 26 new entries (10 percent) and more than 380 sailors (20 percent) are experiencing their first Mac. The Mac Race, known as America’s Offshore Challenge™, begins in front of Chicago’s magnificent skyline and finishes 289 nautical miles (333 statute miles) north on Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, at Michigan’s iconic Mackinac Island.

Next year, the Chicago Yacht Club celebrates its 150-year anniversary.

Burris skippers Maverick to record time in Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac

CHICAGO (AP) — Sanford Burris skippered Maverick to a record-breaking finish in the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, finishing the course of 289 nautical miles up Lake Michigan in 22 hours, 24 minutes and 23 seconds.

That was 1 hour, 6 minutes and 11 seconds faster than the old record set by Roy P. Disney aboard Pyewacket in 2002.

West Michigan sailors prepare for Chicago to Mackinac race

The Maverick crew celebrated briefly as it crossed the finish line between Mackinac Island and the Round Island Lighthouse on Sunday. It then kept sailing as part of the “Super Mac” race, a combination of the Chicago Mackinac and the Bayview Mackinac races that continued into Lake Huron for a total of 496 nautical miles.

Maverick also claimed the Royono Trophy for being the first racing monohull to finish the 115th edition of the race, which is sponsored by Wintrust. Southerly winds and overnight storms created the perfect conditions for an incredible downwind race.

Burris, from Kirtland, Ohio, is co-owner of the carbon fiber Andrews 80 along with William and Ward Kinney. Burris sails with his sons and many longtime friends. Also among the 20-member crew is Evolution Sails founder Rodney Keenan.

“I will tell you from my perspective, I wish the record had lasted longer, but these things are inevitable,” said Disney, a grandnephew of Walt Disney. “Given how long it took to break that record shows how difficult a course it is, and what a classic sailboat race it is.”

Yacht Shatters 22-Year Record in Chicago-Mackinac Race

By Isabella Helms July 15, 2024

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — The 115th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac witnessed history on July 14 as the Maverick yacht broke a 22-year-old record with a time of 22 hours, 24 minutes, and 23 seconds. Skippered by Sanford Burris alongside William and Ward Kinney, Maverick outpaced the previous record held by Roy P. Disney’s Pyewacket in 2002 by over an hour.

In addition to setting a new course record, the Maverick team also secured the prestigious Royono Trophy as the first racing monohull to finish the 115th edition.

MORE NEWS: Michigan U.S. Senate Candidate Mike Rogers to Speak Tuesday Night at RNC

Despite initial weather concerns, strong southerly winds and overnight storms created optimal conditions, propelling the team to a new record. In fact, the 115th edition of the race, presented by Wintrust Financial, saw some of the fastest times in recent years. Nearly ideal downwind conditions allowed the 250 participating boats to achieve impressive speeds, with larger boats averaging 10 to 15 knots, according to Sail World .

The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, known as “America’s Offshore Challenge,” is one of the world’s largest and oldest annual offshore regattas. Beginning near Chicago’s Navy Pier, the race spans 289 nautical miles (333 statute miles) to Mackinac Island, challenging sailors with diverse conditions.

This year, in particular, the race placed a special emphasis on attracting new participants, resulting in over 2,200 competing sailors.

Following their record-breaking run, Maverick continued into the “Super Mac” race, an extended course that combines the Chicago Mackinac and Bayview Mackinac races. The total distance covered in this extended race is 565 statute miles.

The Super Mac race is still underway, and final results are yet to be determined.

Movie nights and other outdoor activities offer fun all year long at this pool complex. For a more intimate experience, spend some time at the smaller Paradise Pool.
