Calling All ‘Ghostbusters’: Hasbro Unveils Life-Size Ghost Trap and P.K.E Meter Replicas

The set will arrive in time for 'Ghostbusters' 40th anniversary.

The Big Picture

  • Hasbro is honoring the 40th anniversary of the Ghostbusters franchise with a new edition of their Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter.
  • The fully functional and screen accurate equipment includes light-up capabilities and display bases for fans to complete their Ghostbusters cosplay.
  • The set is expected to arrive by fall 2024.

With Halloween almost here, Ghostbusters is a quintessential watch if you're in the mood for a horror comedy. The classic 1984 film directed by Ivan Reitman will be celebrating its 40th anniversary and Hasbro will be honoring the franchise in style with the newest edition to their Ghostbusters Plasma Series . This would be their version of the iconic Ghost Trap and P.K.E Meter . This crowd funded project will run from October 27 to December 11, 2023 and has already reached its target of 10,000 back orders.

That shouldn’t be a surprise given how popular the Ghostbusters franchise is. The set will include a fully functional screen accurate P.K.E. Meter and Ghost Trap complete with light up capabilities. Both pieces will include display bases, so fans can place their equipment down with care after each ghost hunt. With Hasbro already making a life-size Proton Pack , your next Ghostbusters cosplay will be complete with this ghoulish set. The pair of equipment will run you $299.99 USD if you want to be one of the backers of the campaign.

While Ghostbusters has been a franchise that was dormant for a few decades after Ghostbusters II in 1989, the series received an ill-fated reboot in 2016, before returning to the original timeline and canon with 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife which brought the series back to its roots. Applying its formula to a coming-of-age story that also served as an emotional way to honor Harold Ramis ’ legacy , critics and fans alike adored the latest entry. The box office return was very respectable as well with Afterlife making over $200 million worldwide.

When Will ‘Ghostbusters Afterlife 2’ Be Released?

A sequel, tentatively titled Afterlife 2 was quickly greenlit and, after a delay earlier this year , the film is set to release in theaters on March 29, 2024 . Not much is known about the sequel’s plot at this time, but it will see the franchise return to New York City with the first poster teasing a chilling take over of the Ghostbusters logo.

One of the best parts of Afterlife , besides seeing Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd , and Ernie Hudson suit up again, was witnessing the next generation of Ghostbusters form with Egon Spengler’s grandchildren played by McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard . Seeing them discover the Ecto-1 as well as all the old equipment used in the original films like the Proton Packs and Ghost Traps was perfect. It captured the same haunting sense of quirky wonder that the original horror comedy masterpiece had in the 80s. With this Ghost Trap and P.K.E Meter combo back from Hasbro and the new film releasing next year, Ghostbusters is going to have a killer 40th anniversary.

The original Ghostbusters is currently streaming on Peacock . You can also pre-order your Hasbro P.K.E Meter and Ghost Trap on their website . The set will be released no later than fall 2024 until then, you can check out the images of the set below:

TWO IN THE BOX, READY TO GO!

In celebration of the Ghostbusters 40 th anniversary, we are thrilled to be able to bring you another HasLab first: the second-ever Hasbro Pulse Ghostbusters HasLab! But that’s not all! In yet another HasLab first, we’re proud to announce the first-ever, adult-collectible, supernatural elimination needs twofer ! We were borderline for a while, then we crossed the border and went full-on two in the box, ready to go!

Now, let’s talk seriously. For the entrapment device, we’re gonna have to ask you for three big ones—300 dollars for that—but we are having a special this month on spectral detection, including hardware, and so we’ll go ahead and throw in the P.K.E. Meter at no additional cost. Tell you what, we’ll even do you one better. We’ve been authorized by Peter Venkman to shave a penny off the price, meaning fans can fund the Ghostbusters Plasma Series P.K.E. Meter & Ghost Trap HasLab terrifying twofer for only $299.99! We must’ve all gone mad!

THE PSYCHOKINETIC ENERGY METER (AKA THE P.K.E. METER)

ghostbusters trap size

It’s no secret Egon Spengler was a very hands-on, DIY kinda scientist, often cobbling together his hardware from common, everyday items, and the P.K.E. Meter is no different. Egon used an old electric shoe polisher for the bulk of this handheld piece of tech, which trades in footwear for phantasms, determining specter location and quantification. The P.K.E. Meter acts like a divining rod when near a spectral being, with a pair of motorized arms extending outward from the sides, embedded lights flashing in sync with detectable spectral frequencies.

Fans will be happy to know that not only have the HasLab Lab Lab Techs included classic P.K.E. Meter features, such as Ghost Detection Mode, but they’ve also included a very special upgrade. Yes, that’s right, the HasLab P.K.E. Meter 1:1-scale premium adult collectible features Egon Spengler’s personal upgrade from his time as the Dirt Farmer, in Summerville: Taser Mode! Taser Mode, if you’re unfamiliar, turns the P.K.E. Meter into a taser that forces an apparition to reveal itself… or explode in a burst of marshmallow goo, as we know from Podcast’s dealings with the mischievous Mini-Pufts in the Ecto-1.

THE GHOSTBUSTERS PLASMA SERIES P.K.E. METER

  • Innovative Real Life EMF Detection Mode
  • Multi-LED Display Panel
  • Motorized LED-Lined Wings
  • Entertainment-Inspired Sound Effects

Needing something to contain and transport paranormal entities to a more permanent housing facility (namely the Ecto-Containment Unit), Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler designed the Ghost Trap. Consisting of a main chassis and a removable cartridge, the Ghost Trap has limited battery life and was never meant to accommodate ecto-plasmic beings for any extended period.

This 1:1-scale premium adult collectible features everything fans love about this vital piece of ghost-bustin’ gear, including the removable cartridge, high-powered LEDs, premium metal finishes, functioning diecast metal wheels for smooth deployment, and more! This thing is so gorgeous that ghosts will be throwing themselves at you just for a chance to get trapped within this highly detailed, premium collectible!

MULTIPLE OTHERWORLDLY UNLOCKS TO MANIFEST

As scientists* here in the Hasbro Pulse HasLab Lab, our research relies heavily on grants. Unfortunately, the United States government has been hesitant to throw their support behind the Supernatural Elimination Needs Act. Because of this, all funding comes via the private sector, such as yourselves!

We’re calling on all psychic saviors, divine donors, paranormal patrons, and bloodless backers to pledge their support in the quest to rid the world of evil ecto entities! With your help, the Ghostbusters HasLab Lab will be able to reproduce critical ghost-bustin’ equipment at an affordable price point, enabling startup franchises to realize their dreams—so long as those dreams are PG. We’re looking right at you , Dr. Stantz.

Anyway, we had Janine crunch the numbers, which can be found below.

  • Fan funding for these iconic Ghostbusters 1:1-scale roleplay items ($299.99)
  • FUNDED: 10,000 backers to fully fund this creepy campaign
  • UNLOCKED:  12 ,000 backers to manifest the Supernatural Startup Unlock
  • UNLOCKED: 15,000 backers to trap the Highly Secure Receptacle Unlock
  • UNLOCKED: 18,000 backers to unleash the Psychokinetic Energy Detection Unlock

Now, those are some good-looking numbers! We really should get Janine a raise.

*No members of the Hasbro Ghostbusters team are actual scientists, but we’ve got one hell of an engineer!

THE SPECTRAL SURPRISE UNLOCK

THE SUPERNATURAL STARTUP UNLOCK

ghostbusters trap size

Beautiful, you’re hired. Welcome aboard. Here’s your Supernatural Startup Unlock!

If you want to suit up then you’re gonna have to study up, because the last thing you want is to be unprepared when in the presence of a nasty, focused nonterminal, repeating phantasm, believe you me, buster. Get to know your supernatural elimination equipment with the Supernatural Startup Unlock. Bust this unlock and you’ll receive a handy 18”x24” P.K.E. Meter and Ghost Trap blueprint poster, which, quite frankly, will look pretty boss displayed on your favorite wall.

Speaking of boss displays, you can really spruce up any joint with a few perfectly placed slaps. That’s why we’ve included some sick sticker designs, inspired by the Ghostbusters universe, including Ray’s Occult Books, Stay Puft Marshmallows, and more!

Think you know what else we have in store? Fancy yourself as an aspiring psychic? Then you’re in luck because you’re going to love testing the limits of your psychic abilities with a set of five 4.5”x7” ESP cards, inspired by Dr. Venkman, and updated with a Dr. Stantz flair. Oh, we also took out a third mortgage on the HasLab Lab to give these cards a premium linen-backed finish!

And if that’s not enough, you can slap a screen-accurate ‘84 No Ghost patch replica on your flight suit. Re-created to match the screen-used Ghostbusters patches from the original 1984 smash hit, this patch is the perfect addition to the shoulder of your suit.

12,000 backers bust the Supernatural Startup Unlock. We shouldn’t have to raise the dead to hit that number, but if we do, don’t worry, we handle this kind of thing all the time.

THE SECURE RECEPTACLE GHOST TRAP UNLOCK

ghostbusters trap size

Face it, ghost-bustin’ is a very active job, boots on the ground and packs on the backs. Sometimes a pesky paranormal pest will flee… straight through a wall. A good Ghostbuster will give pursuit, which means regaining lost ground, thanks to that slimy, supernatural shortcut. It’s not easy to run—or even jog—with a Proton Pack strapped to your back. Thankfully, your pack is secure; your Trap should be, too!

When hustling down a hallway to catch up to a fleeing phantasm, your Trap is going to be hanging onto your belt for dear life. You don’t want to meet up with your target only to discover your Trap fell off somewhere along the way. That won’t be an issue with the Secure Receptacle Ghost Trap Unlock, which comes complete with a secure holster, created with premium soft goods and real metal.

Oh, and we’re throwing in another Ghostbusters patch! That’s right, we’ve got our very own exclusive Ghostbusters HasLab patch you can slap on your suit, add to your patch collection, or trade with fellow busters!

15,000 backers trap the Secure Receptacle Ghost Trap Unlock, ensuring your Ghost Trap will stick to you like glue when on the paranormal prowl!

THE PSYCHOKINETIC ENERGY DETECTION UNLOCK

ghostbusters trap size

Carrying the P.K.E. Meter around in the breast pocket of your lab coat isn’t gonna cut it when on a call. Besides, you’ll have suited up, and the zippered breast pockets of the flight suit are even less adequate for storing this delicate piece of homemade machinery. Looks like we’re going to need another holster! Designed with premium soft goods and real metal pieces, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your Psychokinetic Energy Meter is strapped snugly to your waist.

Need another patch? Good, because you’re getting another patch! You love patches, we love patches, and we want to share the love! Unlock the P.K.E. Meter holster and we’ll toss in an exclusive Mini-Puft No Ghost logo patch. Yep, the adorable image of a Mini-Puft caught in the red No symbol as seen after the end credits of 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes to life in an exclusive patch!

18,000 backers to detect the Psychokinetic Energy Unlock, ensuring you have everything you need to take your Ghostbusters Plasma Series supernatural elimination equipment on all your calls!

CELEBRATING 40 FRIGHTENINGLY FUNNY YEARS… AND WHAT’S TO COME

2024 marks the 40 th anniversary of Ghostbusters , and with the highly anticipated next installment set to delight and terrify moviegoers with all-new thrills and chills, there’s never been a better time to be a Ghostbusters fan. It’s almost hard to believe the original Ghostbusters first haunted the silver screen almost four decades ago. Harder still to believe some of us remember being there, all the way back in the summer of ’84, crowded into a dark theater, buzzing with anticipation, unaware of the spectacle we were about to fall madly in love with. What’s not hard to believe is that Ghostbusters became something so much bigger than just a movie. For some, it became a calling. An instant classic beloved by audiences around the globe, Ghostbusters continues to excite fans forty years later… and their passion is unwavering. A lifetime away from good old ‘84, we may be creakier in the joints and slower getting up from the couch (we finally understand Venkman’s gripes about the weight of the pack) but we’ll still be the first ones to suit up, slide down the fire pole, and race into cinemas for the next spine-chilling chapter of the Spenglers and the OGBs!

Here's to 40 years of flight suits, ecto-plasm, and saving the world. We’re ready for at least another 40 more. So, back this project today and get geared up for ghost bustin’!

Ghostbusters HasLab. Yes, we’re back.

Introduction: Ghostbusters Ghost Trap Build

Ghostbusters Ghost Trap Build

We've GOT ONE!

Actually I've got two. I built two traps concurrently, because who hasn't wanted their own ghost trap? I wanted a proton pack and a ghost trap as a kid and never got either. Now it's time to make a trap. My goal was to create an accurate trap while on a small budget.

The dials are not accurate. In the future I plan to replace the dials and add the resistor and plate from Nick-a-tron props .

Preparation:

• I built this trap based on plans from Sean Bishop .

• I initially built the trap in Google Sketchup to decide how I would build it and confirm the plans measured correctly. This also gave me a quick reference instead of searching through plans.

• I looked at many images from the original film. The props from the movie differ slightly as far as screws used and other minor details. I painted the side rods silver as seen in the second movie as I didn't like them red as seen in the first.

Supplies required: • 1/4" MDF for the trap body and cartridge

• 1/2" MDF for the top lip of the cartridge

• 3/4" poplar for the vertical portion of the handle

• 1/2" wood dowel for the side rods on the trap body

• 7/8" wood dowel for the handle that connect to the 3/4" poplar

• 1" wood dowel for the wheels. These wheels do not rotate

• Wood glue for wood items

• Epoxy for some screws and detail items

• Aluminum sheet for the side plates. I went with 1/16" plate for cost. 1/8" plate is more accurate

• #6 button and socket cap screws (see step 3 for quantity)

• #8 button and socket cap screws (see step 3 for quantity)

• #10 socket cap screw (see step 3 for quantity)

• Pilot light for the battery pack

• Micro switch for the battery pack

• 3/8" quick connect NPT plug for the battery pack

• Hprops trap labels

• Assorted automobile buttons on the trap body if you're on a budget or replica dials from Nick-a-tron props

Tools required: • Table saw

• I used a scroll saw for the complex cuts in the trap body. A jig saw could also be used

• Drill and drill press for all of the screws

• Jig saw with metal cutting blade for the aluminum plates.

• Pneumatic saw for the opening in the aluminum plate. This saw is more precise than a jigsaw for such a small opening.

• Hand saw for small detail items

• Belt sander was used to smooth edges

• Files and rasps to smooth and true the edges of the aluminum. Cutting it will leave them rough

• Clamps ranging in size from 1.5" to 12"

Safety concerns: • A table saw can remove fingers very quickly if you don't pay attention. Proceed with caution when using a hand saw, don't cut near or on your favorite antique.

• The aluminum plate when first cut will be rough with burs that can cut you.

• When drilling, make sure you don't accidentally drill through anything you don't want to.

• Spray paint must be used outdoors in a well ventilated area. A respirator or mask is recommended. Allow time to dry fully.

• Wear old clothes for painting. Chances are paint will find a way to get on your clothes.

Step 1: Trap Body

Trap Body

For the trap body (which holds the cartridge), I used 1/4" MDF. The MDF I used had a veneer which was sanded off. I measured and drew the plan onto the MDF. I used a table saw to cut the overall shapes and then used a scroll saw to make the cutouts at the bottom corner of the side plates. The trap body includes the two sides, a back, and the bottom.

I test fit the pieces together and then glued them. I used a clamp at the front where the bottom plates meets the sides and at the back where the sides meet the back. With a clamp the glue will be dry in fifteen minutes.

A note, I decided to make my knobs spin, which meant I needed to recess a screw head on the inside of the body. This was difficult as the trap was assembled. If you plan to have knobs that turn, plan ahead.

For the battery I glued scraps of 2x4's together then cut and sanded them down. I should have used 1/4" MDF to create a shell and reduce weight. I later had to hollow out my solid battery for the light, switch, and future wiring that would run into the cartridge.

The handle is solid Poplar. MDF is not going to be strong enough. For the curved recess of the handle, I used a rasp and then hand sanded it for a snug fit against the dowel.

Step 2: Cartridge

Cartridge

I used 1/2" MDF for the entire cartridge. I should have use 1/4" to reduce weight. The only part that needs 1/2" is the lip around the opening.

Cut your pieces according to the plan, test fit, and then glue. Clamping them helps them dry quicker. You can also use paint cans or other heavy objects.

The cartridge display is 1/2" and 1/4" MDF glued up and cut according to the plans. In dealing with pieces this small I cut them with a hand saw and then sand them smooth. With power tools, your fingers would be much to close to a moving blade for comfort.

The ears on each side of the display are Poplar, as that was 3/4" thick, which is the size I needed.

The rear tabs are 1/4" MDF. They are surface glued onto the cartridge and thus very flimsy. They should be a continuous piece that is part of the cartridge's back wall. Again, I should have done the cartridge in 1/4" MDF and not 1/2". That way the rear tabs could be integral and much more durable.

Test fit everything. I had to sand the cartridge down a bit to fit in the trap body. It needs to be snug as it's only a tension fit, but it also has to actually fit.

The bottom plate and wheels were cut per the plans and glued to the trap body. I had planned to make the wheels movable, but decided not to.

Step 3: Aluminum Plates and Screws

Aluminum Plates and Screws

The button head & socket head screws and aluminum were sourced from the local hardware store. The hardware store saved me 30% compared to a big box home improvement store.

The aluminum plate must be cut with a wood board as a backing. Otherwise you will bend and ripple the plate. The same holds true for drilling, use a backer.

The aluminum plate can be cut with a jig saw and metal cutting blade. Use a file to smooth and true the edges. The jig saw can create jagged and ragged lines. I slightly rounded the edges so they would be smoother. Use a straight edge to check your progress on truing the edges.

I went thin on the aluminum as making two traps concurrently meant thicker aluminum was a substantial cost increase. I may fix this discrepancy one day (though I may not).

I marked hole locations for screws on the metal plate and drilled through with a drill press using a wood backer. I then used the plate to mark holes on the trap body by clamping the plates in place.

I drilled the trap body holes on the drill press as well.

For the display plate on the cartridge, I drilled a pilot hole at the opening location and use a pneumatic saw as it is more precise than a jig saw. A file trued the opening.

Paint the trap before attaching the aluminum plate to save from having to tape off. It's much easier to paint separate components than when it is all together. Glue was applied to the holes and the screw inserted. Most of the screws are 1/4" in length. The handle screw is 2.5" long to reinforce the handle.

There is a lot of contention on which screws are accurate, since the original traps mixed and matched. I did some research and looked at a lot of images. The final screw count and location used in this build:

#6 Socket Cap Screw - 20 - small side plates, heat sink, resistor, display plate, door hinges

#6 Button Head Screw - 5 - battery top

#8 Socket Cap Screw - 6 - front plate, cartridge ears,

#8 Button Head Screw - 8 - large side plates

#10 Socket Cap Screw - 1 - top of handle

Step 4: Paint, Details, and Conclusion

Paint, Details, and Conclusion

Paint the trap flat black before you assemble so you don't have to tape off. Painting the pieces apart provides a cleaner job. I used drywall compound on the edges of the MDF to smooth out the rough edge and on the battery pack to remove wood grain. This may take a couple of times if you miss any spots the first time. Wipe the trap down with a clean dry cloth and paint in a well ventilated area or outside. I wear a respirator so I don't breathe paint fumes.

I had planned to paint the trap hammered black and mist it with flat black, but decided that level of detail wasn't necessary. There are a few sand marks on the trap, but that will actually help when I weather it.

The trap doors are 1/8" acrylic sheeting. I cut the rough shape on the table saw and used the pneumatic saw to cut the recess. A rasp was used for the radius. I sanded the top and then painted it gloss black. Once the black was dry I taped off using clear tape and painted it gloss yellow. Hollow plastic dowels were glued onto the long edge of the door. The dowel extends past the door on the front. This side inserts into the ear on either side of the display. A screw is inserted into the tab at the back and into the hollow plastic dowel, allowing the doors to open. The back tab is rather flimsy in my build. As noted in step 2, make the back plate and tabs one continuous piece for strength.

The battery is held onto the trap with a dry wall screw. The battery needs to be removable so I can access the switch and light later. This screw is inserted into the opening where the 3/8" NPT fitting screws into the wood.

The side rods are 1/2" wood dowels. I chamfered the ends very carefully on a belt sander. Holes were drilled part way into the side rod with a dowel inserting into the side rod through the trap body and glued in place.

I printed labels from Hprops on slick paper and used spray adhesive to glue them in place. Use movie screenshots as a reference for location.

As I noted in step 1, I decided to make the dials movable half way through the build, which meant I had to recess a screw head on the inside of the assembled trap. Because I can't angle the drill head on, it's an ugly hole, but it doesn't show. My dials use #6 socket caps so that they will turn. The screw is fed from the inside, and the button is glued on. I'm sure there is a better way to do this, but this is my method.

The knob on the resistor side is from a 1988 Nissan pickup radio. The knob serving as the tear drop shaped dial is the volume knob from almost any '90s GM vehicle.

To the trained eye, it's not quite accurate. As mentioned in the introduction I will purchase the correct dials, resistor, and resistor plate from Nick-a-tron props. I had to forgo accurate dials as shipping would take too long for Halloween.

It also needs some weathering. Weathering helps a prop look used and real, instead of like a toy in pristine condition. I will use brown washes- spraying and rubbing paint on and off. I will also do a lot of silver dry brushing at edges and corners. Sand marks will be key spots for the silver.

Of course people love the prop and marvel over how real it looks. It was a lot of fun just to build. Now I finally have that ghost trap I always wanted. I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

I have always wanted one of these ever since I saw the first movie! thank you for showing me how! any pro tips for deteriortating it for ghostbusters afterlife?

Reply 2 years ago

Dry brush edges with silver paint to make it look like the black paint is wearing through. Black and brown washes to get in the crevices. While the trap overall might be grimey, the handle would be cleaner because that's the part most often touched. Raised edges would get more wear, either being shinier, cleaner, or more worn.

thank you! I will get to work on that as soon as I can!

There is a lot of things needed for this one trap. First of all there is no such thing in ghosts and second of all its too much work for kids and lastly does it even work? otherwise nice imagination!

SAHD_Lab

Reply 6 years ago

It's a movie prop from the Ghostbusters franchise. It's not meant to be a tool for kids to actually trap ghosts.

Nice job. I noticed you used an air-hose fitting for the trap cable connection. Have you considered actually using air-hose for the cable. You could use a bellows on the foot switch, and a smaller bellows or piston inside to open the trap doors. It's simple, cheap, reliable, and avoids involving solenoids and whatnot.

Reply 8 years ago on Introduction

I like that idea. If I make the foot pedal, I will check that out. Thanks.

I had the toy as a kid, and that was exactly how it worked. You would stomp on the foot pedal and that pushed air through a hose which opened the doors. It worked great for the toy at least.

kylegilbert

So nice! Great build!

Thanks. A lot of fun building a childhood dream.

NathanSellers

This looks totally awesome. well done.

FPSXGames

That's great work, nice job

Seven year old me would have been extremely jealous of adult me.

Attmos

Adult me loves it just as much as seven year old me would have!

mquiring1

Awesome but an arduino and servos make it perfekt!

Completely agree. Budget and time constraints ;)

‘Ghostbusters’ Gets Life-Size Ghost Trap & PKE Meter Replicas From Hasbro

‘Ghostbusters’ Gets Life-Size Ghost Trap & PKE Meter Replicas From Hasbro

The Big Picture

  • Hasbro is honoring the 40th anniversary of the Ghostbusters franchise with a new edition of their Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter.
  • The fully functional and screen accurate equipment includes light-up capabilities and display bases for fans to complete their Ghostbusters cosplay.
  • The set is expected to arrive by fall 2024.

With Halloween almost here, Ghostbusters is a quintessential watch if you’re in the mood for a horror comedy. The classic 1984 film directed by Ivan Reitman will be celebrating its 40th anniversary and Hasbro will be honoring the franchise in style with the newest edition to their Ghostbusters Plasma Series.

With Hasbro already making a life-size Proton Pack, your next Ghostbusters cosplay will be complete with this ghoulish set. The pair of equipment will run you $299.99 USD if you want to be one of the backers of the campaign.

While Ghostbusters has been a franchise that was dormant for a few decades after Ghostbusters II in 1989, the series received an ill-fated reboot in 2016, before returning to the original timeline and canon with 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife which brought the series back to its roots. Applying its formula to a coming-of-age story that also served as an emotional way to honor Harold Ramis ’ legacy, critics and fans alike adored the latest entry. The box office return was very respectable as well with Afterlife making over $200 million worldwide.

When Will ‘Ghostbusters Afterlife 2’ Be Released?

A sequel, tentatively titled Afterlife 2 was quickly greenlit and, after a delay earlier this year, the film is set to release in theaters on March 29, 2024 .

Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter

Online Details [ ]

These were found on HasbroPulse.com . Ghostbusters Plasma Series Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter This campaign will move into production when it reaches its minimum backing goal. We will stop taking backers at 11:59 PM EST on December 11th 2023 This HasLab begins on October 27th and ends on December 11th. If funded, we will begin shipping in the Fall of 2024. Product Summary: Limit of 5 per customer. A lot has happened since we saved the world with our first-ever HasLab—the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler's Proton Pack life-size replica (no longer available). That's why, here at the Ghostbusters HasLab Lab, we've been working on something special for fans and collectors: the highly anticipated sequel to the smash-hit Hasbro Pulse Ghostbusters HasLab, the Ghostbusters HasLab 2!

The Ghostbusters Plasma Series has equipped fans with a stunning Neutrona Wand , a breathtaking Proton Pack, and now we're pleased to announce that spooky specters and ghosts can run... but they can't hide—not from the Plasma Series Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter premium adult collectible set!

This crowdfunded project will run from October 27, 2023, to 11:59pm ET on December 11, 2023, and requires 10,000 backer orders to begin production. If the suspension work, shocks, brakes, brake pads, steering box, transmission, and rear end hold up as we drive this campaign to the finish line, the project is estimated to ship in late Fall 2024.

40 YEARS OF SUPERNATURAL ELIMINATIONS The Ghostbusters have been scaring specters off the streets of New York for 40 years, in 2024. Because of this, we wanted to offer fans and collectors a project everyone could get behind, a symbol, something that appeals to each and every Ghostbusters fan; something good, something decent, something pure. What better way to celebrate 40 frightening years than with two of the most iconic, must-have pieces of ghost-bustin’ tech?!

TWO IN THE BOX, READY TO GO! In celebration of the Ghostbusters 40th anniversary, we are thrilled to be able to bring you another HasLab first: the second-ever Hasbro Pulse Ghostbusters HasLab! But that’s not all! In yet another HasLab first, we’re proud to announce the first-ever, adult-collectible, supernatural elimination needs twofer! We were borderline for a while, then we crossed the border and went full-on two in the box, ready to go!

Now, let’s talk seriously. For the entrapment device, we're gonna have to ask you for three big ones—300 dollars for that—but we are having a special this month on spectral detection, including hardware, and so we'll go ahead and throw in the P.K.E. Meter at no additional cost. Tell you what, we'll even do you one better. We've been authorized by Peter Venkman to shave a penny off the price, meaning fans can fund the Ghostbusters Plasma Series P.K.E. Meter & Ghost Trap HasLab terrifying twofer for only $299.99! We must've all gone mad! THE PSYCHOKINETIC ENERGY METER (AKA THE P.K.E. METER)

It's no secret Egon Spengler was a very hands-on, DIY kinda scientist, often cobbling together his hardware from common, everyday items, and the P.K.E.

Meter features, such as Ghost Detection Mode, but they've also included a very special upgrade. Yes, that's right, the HasLab P.K.E. Meter 1:1-scale premium adult collectible features Egon Spengler's personal upgrade from his time as the Dirt Farmer, in Summerville : Taser Mode! Taser Mode, if you're unfamiliar, turns the P.K.E. Meter into a taser that forces an apparition to reveal itself... or explode in a burst of marshmallow goo, as we know from Podcast 's dealings with the mischievous Mini-Pufts in the Ecto-1 .

THE GHOSTBUSTERS PLASMA SERIES P.K.E. METER

  • Scanned from the Prop
  • Innovative Real Life EMF Detection Mode
  • Multi-LED Display Panel
  • Motorized LED-Lined Wings
  • Entertainment-Inspired Sound Effects
  • Mode Slide Switch
  • Ghost Detection Mode
  • Low Ionization, High Ionization, and Mute Settings
  • Taser Mode (Spengler Upgrade) with Toggle Switch

Needing something to contain and transport paranormal entities to a more permanent housing facility (namely the Ecto-Containment Unit ), Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler designed the Ghost Trap. Consisting of a main chassis and a removable cartridge, the Ghost Trap has limited battery life and was never meant to accommodate ecto-plasmic beings for any extended period.

This 1:1-scale premium adult collectible features everything fans love about this vital piece of ghost-bustin' gear, including the removable cartridge, high-powered LEDs, premium metal finishes, functioning diecast metal wheels for smooth deployment, and more! This thing is so gorgeous that ghosts will be throwing themselves at you just for a chance to get trapped within this highly detailed, premium collectible!

THE GHOSTBUSTERS PLASMA SERIES GHOST TRAP

  • Ghost Trap with Removable Cartridge
  • Working Activation Pedal
  • Working High-Powered Internal LEDs
  • Working Multicolored LEDs
  • Functioning Trap Doors and Rumble Motor
  • Premium Metal Finishes
  • 9-foot Pedal-to-Trap Connection Cable
  • Docking Station Display Stand
  • Functioning Diecast Metal Wheels for Remote Deployment
  • Ghostbusters to Ghostbusters 2 Aesthetic Conversion
  • Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters 2, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife Modes

WARNING: Do NOT look directly at the Ghost Trap's energy field, when activated, as there exists the potential for stray muons in the body to be drawn out through the eyes, and with them, one's eternal soul.

MULTIPLE OTHERWORLDLY UNLOCKS TO MANIFEST As scientists here in the Hasbro Pulse HasLab Lab, our research relies heavily on grants. Unfortunately, the United States government has been hesitant to throw their support behind the Supernatural Elimination Needs Act. Because of this, all funding comes via the private sector, such as yourselves!

We're calling on all psychic saviors, divine donors, paranormal patrons, and bloodless backers to pledge their support in the quest to rid the world of evil ecto entities! With your help, the Ghostbusters HasLab Lab will be able to reproduce critical ghost-bustin' equipment at an affordable price point, enabling startup franchises to realize their dreams—so long as those dreams are PG. We're looking right at you, Dr. Stantz.

Anyway, we had Janine crunch the numbers, which can be found below.

Stretch Goals [ ]

Fan funding for these iconic Ghostbusters 1:1-scale roleplay items ($299.99)

  • 10,000 backers to fully fund this creepy campaign
  • 12,000 backers to manifest the Supernatural Startup Unlock
  • 15,000 backers to trap the Highly Secure Receptacle Unlock
  • 18,000 backers to unleash the Psychokinetic Energy Detection Unlock
  • 20,000 backers to unleash the Spectral Surprise Unlock

Now, those are some good-looking numbers! We really should get Janine a raise.

  • No members of the Hasbro Ghostbusters team are actual scientists, but we've got one hell of an engineer!

THE SUPERNATURAL STARTUP UNLOCK

Beautiful, you're hired. Welcome aboard. Here's your Supernatural Startup Unlock! If you want to suit up then you’re gonna have to study up, because the last thing you want is to be unprepared when in the presence of a nasty, focused nonterminal, repeating phantasm , believe you me, buster. Get to know your supernatural elimination equipment with the Supernatural Startup Unlock. Bust this unlock and you'll receive a handy 18"x24" P.K.E. Meter and Ghost Trap blueprint poster, which, quite frankly, will look pretty boss displayed on your favorite wall. Speaking of boss displays, you can really spruce up any joint with a few perfectly placed slaps. That's why we've included some sick sticker designs, inspired by the Ghostbusters universe, including Ray's Occult Books , Stay Puft Marshmallows , and more! Think you know what else we have in store? Fancy yourself as an aspiring psychic? Then you're in luck because you're going to love testing the limits of your psychic abilities with a set of five 4.5"x7" ESP cards, inspired by Dr. Venkman, and updated with a Dr. Stantz flair. Oh, we also took out a third mortgage on the HasLab Lab to give these cards a premium linen-backed finish! And if that's not enough, you can slap a screen-accurate '84 No Ghost patch replica on your flight suit. Re-created to match the screen-used Ghostbusters patches from the original 1984 smash hit, this patch is the perfect addition to the shoulder of your suit. 12,000 backers bust the Supernatural Startup Unlock. We shouldn't have to raise the dead to hit that number, but if we do, don't worry, we handle this kind of thing all the time.

THE SECURE RECEPTACLE GHOST TRAP UNLOCK

Face it, ghost-bustin' is a very active job, boots on the ground and packs on the backs. Sometimes a pesky paranormal pest will flee… straight through a wall. A good Ghostbuster will give pursuit, which means regaining lost ground, thanks to that slimy, supernatural shortcut. It's not easy to run—or even jog—with a Proton Pack strapped to your back. Thankfully, your pack is secure; your Trap should be, too! When hustling down a hallway to catch up to a fleeing phantasm, your Trap is going to be hanging onto your belt for dear life. You don't want to meet up with your target only to discover your Trap fell off somewhere along the way. That won't be an issue with the Secure Receptacle Ghost Trap Unlock, which comes complete with a secure holster, created with premium soft goods and real metal. Oh, and we're throwing in another Ghostbusters patch! That's right, we've got our very own exclusive Ghostbusters HasLab patch you can slap on your suit, add to your patch collection, or trade with fellow busters! 15,000 backers trap the Secure Receptacle Ghost Trap Unlock, ensuring your Ghost Trap will stick to you like glue when on the paranormal prowl!

THE PSYCHOKINETIC ENERGY DETECTION UNLOCK

Carrying the P.K.E. Meter around in the breast pocket of your lab coat isn't gonna cut it when on a call. Besides, you'll have suited up, and the zippered breast pockets of the flight suit are even less adequate for storing this delicate piece of homemade machinery. Looks like we're going to need another holster! Designed with premium soft goods and real metal pieces, you'll have peace of mind knowing your Psychokinetic Energy Meter is strapped snugly to your waist. Need another patch? Good, because you're getting another patch! You love patches, we love patches, and we want to share the love! Unlock the P.K.E. Meter holster and we'll toss in an exclusive Mini-Puft No Ghost logo patch. Yep, the adorable image of a Mini-Puft caught in the red No symbol as seen after the end credits of 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes to life in an exclusive patch! 18,000 backers to detect the Psychokinetic Energy Unlock, ensuring you have everything you need to take your Ghostbusters Plasma Series supernatural elimination equipment on all your calls!

THE SPECTRAL SURPRISE UNLOCK

Hello Ghostbusters fans, and congratulations on fully unlocking all the stretch goal tiers—including our unannounced tier 4: The Spectral Surprise! Because the Ghostbusters fan community is so dedicated to this thrilling franchise, the Hasbro Pulse HasLab team, along with our partners at Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Ghost Corps, have decided to toss in a couple of bonus unlocks. That's right! Not only will backers receive the exclusive Ghostbusters Engineering patch (revealed on Adam Savage's Tested), but we'll be including a special Zeddemore Industries GB Engineering keycard, inspired by the upcoming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire movie! Yes, you can become a card-carrying member of the Ghostbusters Engineering team, and how cool is that?

On behalf of our wonderful partners and everyone on the Hasbro Ghostbusters team, thank you for making this otherworldly campaign a chilling success!!

CELEBRATING 40 FRIGHTENINGLY FUNNY YEARS... AND WHAT'S TO COME

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Ghostbusters, and with the highly anticipated next installment set to delight and terrify moviegoers with all-new thrills and chills, there's never been a better time to be a Ghostbusters fan. It's almost hard to believe the original Ghostbusters first haunted the silver screen almost four decades ago. Harder still to believe some of us remember being there, all the way back in the summer of '84, crowded into a dark theater, buzzing with anticipation, unaware of the spectacle we were about to fall madly in love with. What's not hard to believe is that Ghostbusters became something so much bigger than just a movie. For some, it became a calling. An instant classic beloved by audiences around the globe, Ghostbusters continues to excite fans forty years later... and their passion is unwavering. A lifetime away from good old '84, we may be creakier in the joints and slower getting up from the couch (we finally understand Venkman’s gripes about the weight of the pack) but we’ll still be the first ones to suit up, slide down the fire pole, and race into cinemas for the next spine-chilling chapter of the Spenglers and the OGBs!

Here's to 40 years of flight suits, ecto-plasm, and saving the world. We're ready for at least another 40 more. So, back this project today and get geared up for ghost bustin'!

Ghostbusters HasLab. Yes, we're back.

On October 12, 2023, Hasbro teased some news was coming soon. [1]

On October 13, 2023, a teaser was posted. [2]

On October 27, 2023, during the Hasbro Pulse Premium stream, at the 1 hour, 9 minute mark, the next Haslab release was revealed: the Plasma Series Two in the Box! Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter. Crowdfunding also started and ends at 11:59 PM EST on December 11, 2023. 10,000 backers will secure the project. [3] The set was also on display at the Hasbro Pulse booth at MCM Comic Con. [4]

On October 28, 2023, a video of the set on display at the Hasbro Pulse booth at MCM Comic Con was posted. [5]

On October 30, 2023, Two in the Box! was funded.

On November 3, 2023, the first stretch goal, The Supernatural Startup, was funded.

On November 7, 2023, photos were posted from the Hasbro team visiting the Hook & Ladder No. 8 firehouse in New York. [6] AJ Quick posted a summary of a virtual roundtable held last week: Customization is a central focus of the development effort. The Ghost Trap "will come with all-metal side panels and real screws, which will be a boon for those looking to personalize their equipment..."The team has plans to include a rumble motor for ghost-capturing effects. There's also space within the trap's main body for fans to consider adding a smoke effect...The Ghost Trap features a robust and secure XLR-style connector with a threaded connection to prevent the cable from disconnecting. The wire cable between the trap and the pedal is solid wire. Changes to the Ghost Trap and PKE Meter's electronics will be an ongoing process, and they promise that many more features are yet to be revealed. For instance, one recent change made to the programming is how the pedal operates the trap, requiring a single press to open and a single press to close. Additionally, numerous switches and dials will be provided to help set up various functions." The PKE Meter "will feature an EMF detector that responds to sources of ambient energy. It also offers various modes, including a simulated shocking feature using LED lighting. The PKE Meter will have a highly detailed set of sounds embedded, featuring sound effects directly from the production studio. Further refinements are planned for the PKE Meter, such as making the wings (or arms) more slender." [7]

On November 8, 2023, a recording of the virtual roundtable from November 7 was posted. [8]

On November 21, 2023, several answers to questions submitted to Hasbro were posted. There are no plans to add anything more to the campaign, the holsters are created from faux leather that Hasbro has used on other premium fan roleplay items, the P.K.E. Meter's auto-shut off timing will be determined by regulations set by Hasbro's quality assurance team, the P.K.E. Meter sounds will be directly from the Ghostbusters movies, the battery compartment on the P.K.E. Meter is in the handle of the meter and uses AA batteries, Hasbro had to make some slight modifications to accommodate the feature set such as the wheels on the Ghost Trap are slightly lower set than in the movies to accommodate electronics and cartridge engagement mechanism, but they still roll, and the trap opening mechanism is being updated for the final product, so it will ultimately be one tap on the pedal to open and then another tap on the pedal to close the trap and there is also a hidden button underneath the trap handle that opens the trap. [9]

On November 22, 2023, the second stretch goal, The Highly Secure Receptacle, was funded.

On December 6, 2023, Adam Savage released a Tested video going over the prototypes with principal designer Kevin Evans. Evans demonstrates how the slider switch goes through the animations, how to cycle through the screen displays, and the taser mode. The arms will move up and down in the EMF mode. The look of the Trap was adjusted with feedback from fans. Each Trap will likely be hand painted, pneumatic valves on the pedal are for display and can be removed when connecting the cable connector and split loom can be easily put on the cable, the screen inside the Trap can be removed, the pedal relay can be oriented to be accurate with Afterlife's Trap, silver ion rods may unlock new ghost sounds, there are six LED lights inside the Trap, the knob on the side handles volume control, switches can tune operation and animation but two switches won't have any functionality, a V-hook clips the Trap to its stand and receptacle, there is a play function and a prop function to just run through the sounds, there is a hidden switch under the handle that releases the cartridge, the batteries are housed in the cartridge, and there are real metal components and screws. The P.K.E. Meter's programming model board and the gray model stage were shown. The Ghostbusters Engineer Corps patch from Frozen Empire was revealed as part of a new tier and it unlocks with 20,000 backers. [10] The third stretch goal, the Psychokinetic Energy Detection, was funded.

On December 9, 2023, the fourth stretch goal, the Ghostbusters Engineer Corps patch, was funded.

On December 11, 2023, it was revealed the fourth stretch goal will also include an ID card. [11]

"WE GOT ONE!"

Ever wondered why the Ghostbusters ain't afraid of no ghosts? It's not the cool jumpsuits, or the Ecto-1, or even their experience with Slimer, the green gourmand that has a juicebox named after him. No, the reason they aren't afraid of ghosts is that they have the coolest gadgets in all of the paranormal investigative world! Of course, you can thank Ray Stantz for that. He's the gadget guy on the Ghostbusters. Take the simple Ghost Trap, for instance. They would bust some ghosts with their proton pack, slip a trap underneath, open that bad boy up, and BOOM. No more ghost. They get sucked in the trap and sent off to the containment unit back at the firehouse. All in a day's work for The Ghostbusters.

  •           Very cheaply made By Kaira  | November 13, 2022 My initial order was completely broken upon arrival, the handle totally broken off, doors detached, a small piece broken off -- not certain where it belonged. I was sent a replacement and the lights and doors didn't work on the replacement. I wasn't willing to roll the dice a 3rd time. Poorly made. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend. •           Bittersweet By E Campbell  | January 3, 2022 Husband and I got this and the Proton Pack for our die-hard Ghostbusters grandson for Christmas. We had a blast playing with it when we checked it out upon arrival. Grandson was THRILLED! Unfortunately it was damaged beyond repair when our son slipped on wet steps falling hard on the Proton Pack with the GB Trap inside while transporting gifts to his car. Son is bruised and disappointed that his fall badly damaged the GB trap; grandson is really sad and anxiously awaiting another one. I will DEFINITELY be purchasing a new one as soon as they become available although I am not thrilled to see the price has greatly increased since November, 2021. We were GREATLY IMPRESSED with the lights and sounds and how the trap opens and closes. I even handmade “ghosts” for our grandson to capture in the AWESOME trap. •           Hmmmm By Jusjinx  | September 17, 2023 On the fence about this one. When I opened the package both trap doors were open and I could not get them to close. Finally fixed the button at the top to get them to finally do so. The trap itself looks nice but feels cheap and mine has several chips in it and worst of all the stickers were placed on haphazardly crooked and half covering one of the knobs. I tried to pull them off but they ripped. Wish it came without the stickers already on it or had a second set included. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend. •           Three Stars By Colin  | January 3, 2023 My review is two parts. Halloween costumes are given a 5 star from ease of ordering, web site and communication. The ghost buster ghost trap didn't come with instructions, labels sloppily put on, cheap plastic. It seems all ghost traps are poorly manufactured. Buy it if no other choice. •           Open and Close mechanism broke quickly. By Anonymous  | October 24, 2022 Great looking trap- love the lights and sound. A little bit of silver paint marker and some black will have it looking weathered and really take it up a notch. The doors also stay closed very well so if it's on your belt, they're not clacking open and closed while you walk. My big problem though is that the mechanism to open and close the trap (the button on the handle) is terribly designed and ended up breaking on me after maybe the 10th use. I managed to open it up and reseat the plastic mechanism, and that lets it open/close maybe once before it breaks again. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend. This life-size LEGO Ghostbusters Ghost Trap would make an amazing build!

  • February 27, 2022

ghostbusters trap size

Fans have seen some pretty incredible official LEGO Ghostbusters builds, from the firehouse headquarters to most recently the Afterlife incarnation of the Ecto-1 , and while we wait for the next possible set, custom builders have us hopeful that we could eventually assemble one of the most iconic props from the films!

Over the past couple of years, we’ve featured a few fan-made 1:1 scale builds of the Ghostbusters ghost trap, and today we’ve got a slightly new take, complete with added side plate details, the ever so important caution striping, doors that fully open, and even a detachable cartridge!

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Marco De Bon (@marco_debon)

The trap was made by LEGO builder and enthusiast Marco De Bon , who wrote:

“I made the Ghostbusters Trap! I always loved expecially the second film, but I was wondering of making the trap after the latest ”Afterlife”, which I liked too. As reference, I started taking some screenshots from all the films, but I didn’t know there were many versions, with different little details. I studied some toys too, and then I did a kind of mix. The final result should be in 1:1 scale, more or less, with working buttons, detachable trap from its cart, openable cage. All is 100% brick build.”

As featured late last year, Brent Waller, the creator behind the LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and  the recently released Seinfeld set , shared his take on a 1:1 ghost trap, along with the PKE meter and ecto goggles! If you missed that post, check it out below.

Make a Ghostbusters Ghost Trap

ghost bust A 2350

With next year’s premiere of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (March 2021) why not have a little Ghostbusters fun making ghost traps? This recyclable project requires toilet paper tubes and shipping boxes (you probably have plenty of both). With our free printable control panels (below) and some fun paper-mache, kids will be ready to grab a sibling or parent and hunt some ghosts!

A small shipping box (we used a #10 box from International Paper)

A small utility knife or heavy-duty scissors

Toilet paper tube

Masking or painter's tape

I cup flour

2 cups warm water

Newspaper or printer paper, torn in 1” strips

Black craft paint (and paintbrush) OR black spray paint

Yellow tape or 1” strips of yellow paper

Control panel (printable pdf below)

Optional: drink bottle caps

Note: Plan ahead! 24 hours of drying time is required after Step 5.

Ghost bust 1 2350

  • Tape the toilet paper tube to that same side to form a handle.

ghost bust 4 2350

  • Dip newspaper strips into the mixture and remove excess liquid. Cover the bottom interior, bottom exterior, and handle with paper-mache; cover all seams.
  • Let dry for 24 hours.

ghost bust 6 2350

  • Cover the top cover of the box with diagonal strips of yellow tape or paper.

ghost bust 7 2350

  • Glue on bottle caps as controls.

Grab a friend and go hunt some ghosts. Watch out for Slimer!

Emily Dolton is a local artist and mom of two boys.

Print our control panels for the ghost trap or draw your own on paper. Embellish with bottle caps to look like dials.

Looks really good. I've got the Wal-Mart Ghost Trap, the one that opens with the foot pedal, and I bought the Charlesworth Pedal Kit for my trap. Got it all wired to the pedal and it works great. It's not as cool as yours, I just love how the trap separates, but the Charlesworth pedal does the trick.

‘Ghostbusters’ Gets Life-Size Ghost Trap & PKE Meter Replicas From Hasbro

The Big Picture

Hasbro is honoring the 40th anniversary of the Ghostbusters franchise with a new edition of their Ghost Trap and P.K.E. Meter. The fully functional and screen accurate equipment includes light-up capabilities and display bases for fans to complete their Ghostbusters cosplay. The set is expected to arrive by fall 2024.

This would be their version of the iconic Ghost Trap and P.K.E Meter.

Applying its formula to a coming-of-age story that also served as an emotional way to honor Harold Ramis’ legacy, critics and fans alike adored the latest entry. The box office return was very respectable as well with Afterlife making over $200 million worldwide.

When Will ‘Ghostbusters Afterlife 2’ Be Released?

A sequel, tentatively titled Afterlife 2 was quickly greenlit and, after a delay earlier this year, the film is set to release in theaters on March 29, 2024. Not much is known about the sequel’s plot at this time, but it will see the franchise return to New York City with the first poster teasing a chilling take over of the Ghostbusters logo.

One of the best parts of Afterlife, besides seeing Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson suit up again, was witnessing the next generation of Ghostbusters form with Egon Spengler’s grandchildren played by McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard.

The original Ghostbusters is currently streaming on Peacock. You can also pre-order your Hasbro P.K.E Meter and Ghost Trap on their website. The set will be released no later than fall 2024 until then, you can check out the images of the set below:
