Ghost Announce New Album Impera, Unleash New Song “Call Me Little Sunshine”: Stream

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post Ghost Announce New Album Impera, Unleash New Song “Call Me Little Sunshine”: Stream appeared first on Consequence .

Ghost have announced their highly anticipated fifth album, titled Impera . Ahead of its March 11th release date, the Swedish metal masters have unleashed the LP’s first official single, “Call Me Little Sunshine.”

The album announcement comes just days before Ghost kick off a co-headlining US tour with Volbeat. That outing launches January 25th in Reno, Nevada, and wraps up March 3rd in Anaheim, California, with tickets currently available via Ticketmaster .

“Call Me Little Sunshine” leans more toward the theatrical rock side of Ghost, never getting too heavy but still featuring some meaty riffs. The song is still unmistakably Ghost, thanks to the immediately recognizable vocals from band mastermind Tobias Forge (aka Papa Emeritus IV).

As for where the album fits in within the historical timeline of Ghost’s previous efforts, a description in the press release reads as follows:

“ Impera finds Ghost transported literally hundreds of years forward from the 14th century Europe Black Plague era of its previous album, 2018’s Best Rock Album Grammy nominee Prequelle . The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the Ghost canon: Over the course of Impera ’s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made … All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making Impera a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially Ghost.”

Impera was produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace. Among the 12 tracks is “Hunter’s Moon,” which was previously released this past fall as the song featured during the end credits of the horror movie Halloween Kills .

The band’s fifth record is out March 11 on Loma Vista Recordings ( pre-order here ) and is the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Prequelle’.

The record includes their contribution to the Halloween Kills soundtrack, ‘Hunters Moon’  alongside new single ‘Call Me Little Sunshine’, a more hopeful track than anything from their plaque-infected previous record.

Check it out below.

According to their website, “Over the course of ‘Impera’’s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made. All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making ‘Impera’ a listen like no other.”

Check out the tracklisting and album artwork below.

In late 2020, the band confirmed they were about to head into the studio to start work on album five , with a tentative release date set for late 2021. However, Forge said: “We won’t release an album until we know that we are actually going on tour. The album release will coincide with the start of a tour.”

“The actual recording will last around six weeks and then there’s two to three weeks of mixing and mastering. So sometime in March the record should be finished, but it won’t be released until after the summer.”

With ‘Impera’ announced, Ghost kick off a US co-headline tour with Volbeat later this month before arriving in the UK and Europe in April for their own headline shows.

Speaking about future  Download Festival headliners, festival booker Andrew Copping said:  “Ghost without question will be a headliner in future years.”

Ghost’s Tobias Forge Details Next Album

by Alli Patton November 28, 2022, 4:30 pm

Swedish rockers Ghost, winners of Favorite Rock Album at this year’s American Music Awards ceremony, recently dropped details of their follow-up to their fifth album, 2022’s Impera .

Videos by American Songwriter

In conversation with Rolling Stone , Ghost frontman Tobias Forge talked about everything from the band’s current album and songwriting to their spooky aesthetic and how their sixth album would be slightly different from their trademark glam metal. While Forge explained the band is “slowly, slowly, slowly” planning for new music, he also gave a little insight into what’s to come.

“There are a lot of things in my head that I feel like I want to explore writing,” he told the outlet. “I’ve never really ended an album production without or left an album production without feeling like there are things that I would want to do different next time. Try to slowly and steadily, you try to perfect [it].”

He went on to explain that experimentation is a big part of the album-making process for Ghost. The people you’re with, the space you create in, and the state of mind each band member is in all factor into the album, he said.

“So right now, I’m more about vibing,” Forge said, giving no concrete details as to what the next album’s vibe will be.

He added, “I’m trying to build a new vibe for writing this record now, just to sort of see to it that I don’t end up repeating myself and do something else and just evoke a few good things from the past and try to eradicate some of the things I didn’t like. And once more, you try to do it perfectly.”

Get a feel for Ghost’s current “vibe,” below, with the painted-faced, mask-clad aesthetic and rock opera theatrics of their recent release, “Spillways.”

Fans have enjoyed the band’s theatrical live performances, which complement the haunting and atmospheric music. Whether you prefer their earlier occult-themed works or their more recent exploration of societal issues, Ghost’s albums offer something for everyone in the realm of heavy metal music.

Despite winning the Favorite Rock Album category at the American Music Awards with Impera, Ghost's Tobias Forge is hell-bent on even greater perfection for its follow-up

Tobias Forge of Ghost

Tobias Forge has revealed that he is currently working on a "new vibe" for the follow-up to Ghost's 2022 album Impera.

Despite the record winning the Favorite Rock Album category at the American Music Awards last weekend, Forge is already grinding away to satisfy his perfectionist tendencies for the group's next studio set.

In conversation with Jon Weigell on Rolling Stone 's Twitch channel, the occult-party rocker is questioned on whether there's any music he's listening to that might act as inspiration for Ghost's new material.

In response, he says: "Nothing that I can commit to here and now. There are a lot of things in my head that I feel like I wanna explore writing.

"I think I've never really ended an album production, or left an album production, without feeling like there are things that I would wanna do different next time," he continues. "Kind of [the way I feel] about [Ghost's onstage] costumes — you try to… slowly and steadily you try to perfect, but for every process end up doing some of experiment that might have been a miracle, or the next time you're, like, 'Oh, let's never do that again.'".

Speaking of his work on the forthcoming album, the man now apparently known as 'Mr Ghost' says: "So right now I'm more about vibing — I'm trying to build a new vibe for writing this record now, just to sort of see to it that I don't end up repeating myself, and do something else.

"Evoke a few good things from the past and try to eradicate some of the things I didn't like. And once more, you try to do it perfectly. It's like being that sort of person that gets married for the sixth time: 'This time is gonna be great. It's gonna be perfect this time.'"

At the American Music Awards , Ghost's Impera triumphed over records by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Machine Gun Kelly.

Frontman Tobias Forge has stated that the idea for the album was conceived many years ago, as far back as 2013, when he obtained a book called The Rule Of Empires: Those Who Built Them, Those Who Endured Them, And Why They Always Fall by Timothy Parsons which inspired him to create an album about "...the rise and ultimately the unescapable fails and falls of empires." It will perhaps be the most topical Ghost album to date, as he says that it "...wasn't really hard to be inspired by the last couple of years." [1] He has also stated that he intends it to be a "darker, heavier record". [2]

The band’s satirical version of Genesis’ ‘Jesus He Knows Me’ precedes the EP’s release on May 18.

Ghost-Phantomime-Covers-EP

Fresh off winning Best Rock Album of the Year at the iHeart Radio Music Awards, Ghost announces the coming of ‘Phantomime’: a five-song covers EP intended from the start to follow last year’s international chart-topping opus Impera .

A diverse and spellbinding sampling of the Grammy Award-winning band’s musical DNA, ‘Phantomime’ is comprised of covers of classics and deep cuts by Television, Genesis , The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner. ‘Phantomime’ pays tribute in equal measure to every one of these unlikely bedfellow, influences while stamping them all with Ghost’s undeniable sonic signature.

The announcement of Phantomime’s impending release also solves the mystery of Ghost’s recent “Jesus Is Coming” campaign, as referenced in the Good Friday premiere of the newest installment of the band’s long-running webisode series, Chapter 17: Nap Time. ‘Phantomime’s May 18 release via Loma Vista Recordings is heralded by Ghost’s interpretation of Genesis’ 1992 satirical stab at televangelists “Jesus He Knows Me,” available now to stream and download .

Best Bassists Of All Time: 55 Legendary Bass Players

‘dystopia’: how megadeth readied themselves for the apocalypse, ‘pyromania’: the explosive album that turned def leppard into superstars.

This second coming of “Jesus He Knows Me” is accompanied by an Alex Ross Perry-directed video that will surely make the case that one person’s beauty is another’s blasphemy. Culminating in a climactic ritual that must be seen to be believed, Ghost’s visual interpretation of “Jesus He Knows Me” rises to the occasion in unholy fashion — and then some. Viewer discretion is advised.

The Easter Sunday release of the “Jesus He Knows Me” track and video continues two established Ghost traditions: 1) Following up the release of a full length studio album with uniquely Ghost-ified cover versions, past efforts having included reinterpretations of favorites by ABBA , The Beatles , Depeche Mode, Roky Erickson, Eurythmics, Metallica , Pet Shop Boys and many more; and 2) Challenging, confronting and upending societal conventions and authority figures, often taking on specific antagonists — in this case, Father Jim DeFroque, host of the evangelical radio show Jesus Talk with Father Jim DeFroque on KLAQ in El Paso TX — and also star of the “Jesus He Knows Me” video.

‘Phantomime’s release will coincide with Ghost’s first live dates of 2023, beginning with a May/June European run of festival and headline dates including appearances at Primavera Sound 2023 where the band will share a bill with Blur, Depeche Mode, Halsey and Kendrick Lamar , among others, and Sweden Rock Festival 2023, where Ghost will be one of four headliners alongside Def Leppard , Iron Maiden and Motley Crue.

Ghost will then make its triumphant return to North America, for its Re-Imperatour U.S.A. 2023 summer tour with special guest Amon Amarth. Re-Imperatour U.S.A. 2023 kicks off August 2 in Concord, CA, with stops in more than two dozen cities before its two-night finale the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on September 11 and — recently added by popular demand — September 12.

Pre-order ‘Phantomime’ EP .

The complete track listing for ‘Phantomime’ is as follows:

“See No Evil” (Television) “Jesus He Knows Me” (Genesis) “Hanging Around” (The Stranglers) “Phantom of the Opera” (Iron Maiden) “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” (Tina Turner)

GHOST Is Back With First New Single In Two Years, 'Hunter's Moon'

Swedish heavy rockers GHOST have released a new song called "Hunter's Moon" . The track, which was produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace , is featured in the latest blockbuster installment of the legendary film franchise "Halloween Kills" . The "Halloween Kills" soundtrack is set to arrive October 15 via Sacred Bones , with the film hitting theaters (and Peacock ) the same day as well.

A series of inspired encounters between creative forces from various worlds of sound and vision has resulted in "Hunter's Moon" , the infectious first new track from GHOST since 2019's "Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic" , and its phantasmagoric video directed by Amanda Demme .

The genesis of "Hunter's Moon" can be traced back to GHOST 's November 16, 2018 show at the Forum in Los Angeles. Ryan Turek , vice president of feature film development at Blumhouse Productions ( "Get Out" , "Insidious" , "The Purge" , "Us" , "Whiplash" ) attended the sold-out show, striking up an instant rapport with GHOST 's mastermind Tobias Forge — one that developed quickly and deeply via meetings, podcast appearances, and ultimately a visit with co-writer and director David Gordon Green on the North Carolina set of the upcoming "Halloween Kills" .

Three years nearly to the day since that first fateful exchange, GHOST 's "Hunter's Moon" has materialized on DSPs, will play as the "Halloween Kills" end credits roll, and will be released January 21, 2022 as a collectible seven-inch single by Loma Vista Recordings . "Hunter's Moon" can be streamed, purchased, and/or pre-ordered in its vinyl incarnation. The retail version of the seven-inch will feature the special B-side "Halloween Kills (Main Title)" , performed, produced and engineered by John Carpenter , Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies .

"Hunter's Moon" features OPETH 's Fredrik Åkesson on guitar and THE SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES founder Martin Hederos on the piano. Producer Max Grahn and " A Ghoul Writer " are listed as the song's composers and lyricists.

Earlier this month, GHOST announced a 26-date co-headlining U.S. arena tour with VOLBEAT and special guests TWIN TEMPLE , coming to cities including Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix.

Last October, Forge told Sweden Rock Magazine that he was planning to enter the studio in January to begin recording GHOST 's fifth album. "The actual recording will last around six weeks and then there's two to three weeks of mixing and mastering," he said. "So sometime in March the record should be finished, but it won't be released until after the summer. As it looks now, knock on wood, we will then go on tour. We won't release an album until we know that we are actually going on tour. The album release will coincide with the start of a tour. Of course, we could announce an album release date and then, for some reason, it might not be possible to tour, but that's a whole other matter."

In March 2020, at final show of GHOST 's "Prequelle" tour in Mexico City, Mexico, the band officially introduced Papa Emeritus IV , the new character who will front the act for its next LP phase.

Forge performed as a "new" Papa Emeritus on each of the band's first three LPs, with each version of Papa replacing the one that came before it. Papa Emeritus III was retired in favor of Cardinal Copia before the release of 2018's "Prequelle" .

In October 2019, Forge confirmed to U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine that there would be a new character fronting GHOST by the time the group's next LP sees the light of day.

"Prequelle" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and featured the chart-topping singles "Rats" and "Dance Macabre" .

In December 2018, GHOST nabbed two Grammy nominations, "Best Rock Album" for "Prequelle" and "Best Rock Song" for "Rats" .

Five years ago, GHOST became the first Swedish rock band ever to win a Grammy — 2016's "Best Metal Performance" for the song "Cirice" .

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Release Date Moves Up 1 Week Early

  • The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire release date has been moved up one week to March 22 to take advantage of the spring break box office surge.
  • The new release date will help the film avoid competition and increase its chances of a successful box office performance.
  • Ghostbusters: Afterlife grossed $204 million worldwide despite the pandemic, giving hope for the success of Frozen Empire .

The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire release date in March has been moved up one week earlier. A direct follow-up to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife , the fifth film in the franchise follows the Spengler family as they team up with the original Ghostbusters to protect New York City from the Death Chill and prevent a second Ice Age. The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire cast brings back Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Celeste O'Connor, and Logan Kim alongside original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton.

Now, the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire release date has been pushed up by one week. Per Deadline , the new Ghostbusters movie has moved from March 29 to March 22 . The film is set to screen in IMAX and other premium large formats.

Why The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Release Date Was Moved Up

Sony shifting the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire release date is intended to capitalize on an additional week of the spring break box office surge in late March, especially during a time when there won't be much competition. By moving to March 22, the Ghostbusters movie will open against Mark Wahlberg's Arthur the King and The American Society of Magical Negroes . Based on the box office performance of Wahlberg's recent biographical dramas Joe Bell ($1.7 million) and Father Stu ($21.8 million), Arthur the King doesn't pose much of a threat to the storied Ghostbusters franchise.

25 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2024

The franchise's soft reboot, the nostalgic Ghostbusters: Afterlife , was released in theaters on November 19, 2021, alongside King Richard , during a time when the box office was still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite that, it grossed $44 million during its opening weekend and ended its run with $204 million worldwide. Over two more years removed from the heart of the pandemic, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has hopes of posting a better box office performance, and its release date on March 22 maximizes its chance of doing so.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire continues the story of a new generation of ghost hunters composed of Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Podcast (Logan Kim), who received help from the original team in the previous movie. Paul Rudd returns as Gary Grooberson and franchise co-creator Ivan Reitman returns to write and produce.
