Pure The power of now

What would happen if its designers and innovators developed a yacht that blended the immense experience gained from working for owners with the boldest visions that have yet to see the light of day? A Feadship with the cleanest possible architecture, ready for next-generation yacht control and clean propulsion, designed for unadulterated enjoyment. The result is a Feadship concept design that despite the name could actually be built today… The result is the 81.75-metre Pure .

Windows to the world

Minimalist at first glance, the profile is decidedly sculptural with a remarkably strong character. The lines are drawn as simple as possible in order to generate an air of calm. They merge seamlessly with the volumes – which make the yacht instantly recognisable from afar – and some highly finessed twisted surfaces.

“ People don’t always know what they want until you actually show them.”

Lines of connection

The essence of Pure is the unparalleled visual and social connections offered by her open on-board architecture and three-deck atrium, a feat which is very challenging to achieve on a yacht. From structural integrity to fire & safety regulations, all the parameters involved have been meticulously calculated. As futuristic as it may look in the renderings, the Feadship yards could actually start building Pure tomorrow.

A brief tour of Pure

The first point to emphasise is that this design has five decks, with the tank deck counting as a fully functioning part for reasons that will become apparent once we turn to the propulsion. Entering via the main deck, the wow factor is profound  as you take in the multiple layers – from the shaft of light emanating from the sun deck above (reminiscent of the Pantheon perhaps) to the cascading views over the beach club below.

Feadship concept design Pure - owners deck

The sun deck itself features a large jacuzzi forward with fire pits, an amidships bar zone and a dining area aft with seating surrounding the giant elliptical skylight. In addition to this visual connection with the interior there is a direct link to the owners’ deck below.

The rest of the main deck is completely open with dining and lounging facilities strategically placed for the best views.

Pure does not have a bridge deck, as the yacht is controlled from a concealed Command Centre from where everything is simulated and displayed on screens. The information required to drive Pure will come from all kinds of sources such as radar, AIS, maps, depth sounders and cameras strategically placed around the yacht. This data is all combined, then presented using smart augmented reality visualisation.

The Feadship Foresight programme provides further assistance to the captain and crew with regards to situational awareness, motion prediction, routing, on-board comfort and finding the most fuel-efficient way to travel between locations.

More fuel for thought

In modern yachtbuilding parlance, the term ‘hybrid propulsion’ usually refers to a combination of diesel direct and diesel-electric propulsion. Pure , on the other hand, is an energy hybrid, with diesel-electric propulsion receiving energy from batteries and liquid fuel. Three scenarios are envisaged for a Pure -like Feadship: the initial delivery in 2024 and two upgrades in 2027 and 2030 respectively.

Pure is a 268-foot superyacht concept with a hidden, submarine helm station and three-deck glass atrium

In a bid to inspire the yacht owners of tomorrow, Feadship unveiled one of the most forward-thinking superyacht concepts at the Monaco Yacht Show. The 268-foot design Pure, conceived by Studio De Voogt, takes its name from sculpted exterior lines—including flush-tinted windows—an open-plan interior and future-proofed onboard systems that includes scrapping the conventional wheelhouse in favor of a forward-facing owner’s suite.

Eyebrows were raised as designers revealed a controversial lower-deck “Command Center,” where the captain will navigate the yacht. The traditional bridge will be replaced with radar, AIS, maps, depthsounders and cameras, supported by smart augmented-reality visualization and Feadship’s proprietary Foresight program. Replacing a traditional helm with a submarine-like setup that relies only on electronics and not line of sight is a brave choice. The layouts are found on naval vessels, but a superyacht?

“We recognize that the Command Center is a controversial proposal,” said Bram Jongepier, senior specialist at De Voogt. “But placing the bridge higher up impacts the profile. The Command Center is a viable solution and at Feadship we see this as a big, legitimate topic for discussion.”

Other key features include a three-deck elliptical glass atrium, retractable glass-bottomed Jacuzzi amidships, and a large beach club with three fold-down balconies aft and both sides.

Located half inside, half out, the atrium incorporates large slabs of glass to provide a clear line of sight across three of the five decks. Filling the interior with natural light, the vast central space means guests must look to private balconies for privacy.

“We developed this design with a mix of joy and tenacity, determined to adjust every angle until it works to perfection,” said designer Jan Schaffers. “This is an environment which is equally suitable for hosting amazing parties or displaying exciting art collections.”

But the surprises don’t stop there. Pure features a flexible “energy-hybrid” propulsion system that would see the yacht evolve over time. From diesel electric in 2024, to hydrogen in 2027, to all-methanol fuel cells in 2030, Pure is designed to respond to advancing technology, depending on which sustainable fuels become most viable.

“Pure synthesizes all the know-how gained in recent times over the types of spaces, exteriors and propulsion solutions owners are asking for,” said Schaffers. “Many of us are inherently reluctant to truly explore what our actual needs are but Pure takes a deep dive down this path.”

This Superyacht Has an Evolving Propulsion System & an AR Pilothouse

By: Tim Huber Published: Sep 29, 2021

Over the last decade, HUDs (or “heads up displays”) and augmented reality have increasingly permeated the world of high-end supercars, though this trend has yet to catch on in the equally elite superyacht realm. This, however, is now changing, as Dutch shipbuilders, Feadship has just unveiled its Pure Concept, a 268.2′ Gigayacht with an AR-style wheelhouse.

Making its public debut last week at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, the Pure Concept marks the latest project from Feadship that aims to offer a glimpse into the future of yachting, coming on the heels of a number of noteworthy concept vessels since the turn of the millennium including the world’s first hybrid-powered superyacht. Renowned for its custom-designed boats, Feadship’s latest envelope-pushing concept takes inspiration from military vessels which don’t offer a direct line of sight to the water and instead rely on a host of advanced electronics — in the case of the Pure, this means jettisoning the traditional setup for a suite of GPS, radar, depth sounders, AIS, maps, and a plethora of cameras and sensors that all relay information to the captain through a state-of-the-art augmented reality display. Because the Pure Concept’s pilothouse doesn’t need to be located high up in the bridge, its designers have managed to place its control center on the ship’s lower deck, streamlining its shape and allowing for a sleeker, lower-profile silhouette. In addition to boasting a retractable glass-bottomed jacuzzi and a massive aft deck beach club with a trio of fold-down walls, another noteworthy highlight on the Gigayacht is its future-proofed hybrid propulsion system that plans on utilizing the most cutting-edge powertrain types as they evolve over time, first employing a diesel-electric setup, before the vessel will switch to a hydrogen cell system within the next half-decade, and then finally a methanol fuel cell powertrain by roughly 2030 until eventually adopting whatever the latest system is in the mid-2030s.

While Feadship has yet to reveal any plans for putting the ship into production, there’s a decent chance that some of its more novel technology and features will likely begin appearing on superyachts in the coming years.

The theories on what caused Bayesian superyacht to sink so quickly

Yahoo news uk rounds up the theories on what could have caused the bayesian to sink off the coast of sicily..

As the remaining bodies are pulled from the wreckage of the Bayesian luxury British yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily on 19 August, attention now turns to explaining how the 56-metre vessel could seemingly sink within a matter of minutes during an intense storm while boats around it remained afloat.

The disaster has baffled naval marine experts who said such a vessel, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini and presumed to have top-class fittings and safety features, should have been able to withstand such weather.

On Thursday, Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said such yachts were "unsinkable bodies" and "the safest in the most absolute sense". He told Sky News: "Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built. And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever.

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact."

Technology tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among those on board the family yacht when it sank off the port of Porticello, near Palermo, Sicily, in the early hours. Others presumed killed in the tragic incident include Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda Morvillo.

A seventh person, Canadian-Antiguan national Recaldo Thomas , who was working as a chef on the Bayesian, is already confirmed dead.

The Bayesian was moored just half a mile or so from shore when it sank as the area was hit by an intense storm, including a suspected waterspout, but it remains unclear what caused the 56 metre long vessel to sink within a matter of minutes

Here are some of theories discussed so far looking at what could have happened to cause the Bayesian to sink.

Hatch or windows were left open

There has been some speculation in media reports that the yacht sank because of a large hatch or windows being left open. Structural engineer Filippo Mattioni pointed to the possibility of "an open hatch" letting in water.

Yachting experts have suggested that the hatches could have broken or smashed during the waterspout, or were left open due to the hot weather, which could have allowed the Bayesian to fill with water quickly and sink. Andrea Ratti, a nautical design professor at Milan Polytechnic university, said a boat the size of the Bayesian could only sink so rapidly by taking in a huge amount of water.

He said that “one can make plausible assumptions that leave room for doubt” about what happened, suggesting that one or more portholes, windows or other openings may have been broken or smashed open by the waterspout, letting in water.

Divers who carried out underwater inspections of the boat reported that the hatch was open, according to La Repubblica, though this has not been confirmed by officials.

However, an industry expert dismissed the open hatch theory, telling Reuters that it should have taken hours for the Bayesian to fill up with enough water to sink it.

Fire department diver Marco Tilotta also told Il Messaggero daily the wreck was “apparently intact”, with “no gashes, no signs of impact”. However, only one half of the hull is visible to divers.

Was the retractable keel used?

The Bayesian was built with a retractable keel - a structure that lies under the hull that helps stabilise boats and acts as a counterweight to the mast. Both Ratti and Mattioni have suggested that if the yacht had been anchored with the keel up, it would have reduced its depth under water from around 10m to 4m – making the vessel less stable.

Ratti said the boat might have started oscillating wildly, “like a pendulum” in strong winds. This would have put exceptional strain on the mast and potentially led to it breaking.

However, he conceded that “this by itself is not enough to justify the sinking”. Investigators have so far not said whether the retractable keel had been used.

The yacht’s mammoth mast

Perini Navi, the Italian luxury yacht maker who built the Bayesian, said the vessel featured the world's tallest aluminum mast, measuring 72m.

American entrepreneur Scott Painter – who took over Mike Lynch's Autonomy brand – told MailOnline that he believes the Bayesian may have been more vulnerable to capsizing in bad weather because of the height of its mast.

He said: “That could certainly contribute to a capsize as it would destabilise the yacht. And if it were to lean over too far, it could absolutely capsize the yacht.”

Sam Jefferson, editor of Sailing Today, told The Telegraph: “She has a very tall, aluminium mast – I believe it is the second tallest aluminium mast in the world – and that would not have helped. Stability was obviously the problem in the extremely strong winds she was experiencing and I’d assume the boat was pinned on its side and could not right before it filled up with water.”

Watch: What could have happened to the Bayesian yacht?

Karsten Borner, the captain of another yacht anchored nearby at the time of the storm, claims he saw the Bayesian’s mast “bend and then snap”. However, Ratt said an unusually tall mast is not by itself an element of vulnerability in a storm.

Initial reports suggested the mast had snapped, however a source told Corriere della Sera that divers found the mast in one piece.

Fire department diver Marco Tilotta said the wreck was intact and the mast was still attached. He added, that divers had not been able to inspect the full length of the mast but the section they had seen was undamaged.

Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told the BBC that it was difficult to say whether the mast broke, saying it was “pure guesswork”. He pointed out that divers have said the vessel is “basically intact” and if the mast was broken, “that would be a significant thing that would be reported”.

David Hutchinson, captain of Rosehearty - a sistership to the Bayesian - told Boat International that he cold not understand how the yacht could have sank - but did acknowledge the Bayesian's mast was longer.

Freak waterspout was caused by 'higher than usual temperatures'

Italian authorities have reported stormy conditions that caused the yacht to sink. It is believed the Bayesian may have been hit by a waterspout – a rotating column of wind that forms over a body of water and is often likened to a tornado.

According to the US National Ocean Service, tornadic weather spouts have the “same characteristics” as a land tornado and are often accompanied by severe thunderstorms, “high winds and seas, large hail, and frequent dangerous lightning”.

Some climate experts have said the storm could have been caused by global warming. Luca Mercalli, president of Italy's meteorological society, said the sea surface temperature around Sicily in the days leading up to Bayesian’s sinking was about 30C – almost 3C more than normal. He told Reuters: “This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms.”

Borner, the captain of the boat moored nearby, also blamed more frequent episodes of intense heat during the summer months for playing a role in causing such storms.

He said: “The water is… way too hot for the Mediterranean and this causes for sure heavy storms, like we had one week ago on the Balearics, like we had two years ago in Corsica and so on.”

‘A series of human errors’

The Bayesian was built in 2008 by Italian luxury yacht maker Perini Navi and was refitted twice – but reportedly not by Perini himself.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of the Italian Sea Group TISGR.MI, which owns Perini, said the yacht was “one of the safest boats in the world” and basically unsinkable. He suggested that the sinking was down to a series of human errors – despite the storm being expected.

Speaking to Italian media, the CEO said that had the crew shut all doors and hatches, turned on the engine, lifted the anchor, lowered the keel and turned the yacht to face the wind, they would have suffered “zero damage”. He added that data showed it took 16 minutes from when the wind began buffeting the yacht, and it began taking on water, for it to sink.

Will we ever know what happened to the Bayesian?

With the investigation still in its very early days, any explanation about what exactly happened to the Bayesian remains nothing more than a theory.

Experts are struggling to identify any single one cause, and are hesitant to make any conclusions, especially as the yacht was presumed to have top-class fittings and safety features. Another yacht anchored next to it remained afloat during the weather event.

Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, described the sinking as a potential “black swan event” – something that is unpredictable and is beyond what is normally expected from a situation and that has potentially severe consequences.

Nevertheless, he said he was confident the authorities would “get to the bottom” of what caused the vessel to sink, thanks to the accounts of survivors, witnesses and examination of the ship, which appears to have remained intact on the sea bed.

Who will lead the investigation?

Leading experts have already lent their knowledge of what could have caused the sinking of the Bayesian.

The official investigation into the disaster is being led by prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese.

Ambrogio Cartosio, the chief prosecutor of Termini Imerese, will be heading up the investigation alongside the assistant prosecutors.

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch is also assisting with inquiries. Their investigation is likely to take months to complete.

Mike Lynch, the U.K. investor and founder of IT company Autonomy, has been identified as one of two bodies recovered from the Bayesian, the yacht that sunk off the coast of Sicily early Monday, according to several reports coming out of the country that cite the chief of Civil Protection, Salvo Cocina. The boat, registered to Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, quickly capsized in the early hours of Monday after it was struck by a tornado-like water column. In a tragic coincidence, Chamberlain was hit by a car last Saturday and died of his wounds earlier this week.

Meta, for instance, points out that it has been prevented from being able to train its AI models on public data across Facebook and Instagram because regulators haven't crafted legislation to address how this should be handled as of yet.

Everything We Know About the Luxury Yacht Sinking in Sicily, Killing 7 After Celebratory Trip

The key unanswered question remains — how did this happen?

What started out as a celebration on a luxury yacht off the coast of Sicily ended in tragedy on Monday, Aug. 19, when the craft — the 183-foot-long Bayesian — seems to have sunk quickly into the waves of the Tyrrhenian Sea after what the Italian coast guard called a “violent storm.”

Twenty-two people were aboard, including 12 passengers and 10 crew, authorities have said.

Fifteen people were soon rescued after the Bayesian sank. By Friday, Aug. 23, following complicated and protracted search and rescue efforts , the bodies of all seven victims had been found, sources told PEOPLE.

Among the dead are British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah.

Here’s what to know about the tragedy as Sicilian officials are expected to share more information this weekend.

What is the Bayesian yacht?

Built in 2008 by Perini Navi, with a much lauded interior designed by Rémi Tessier and naval architecture by Ron Holland, the luxury vessel was refitted in 2020 and included six suites for as many as 12 passengers, plus quarters for 10 crew — the size of the traveling party this week when the yacht sank.

It has previously gone by the name Salute . But Bayesian appears to be a nod to Lynch’s career: It refers to a kind of mathematical modeling used in his software company Autonomy.

Notably, the Bayesian has been touted as having the world’s “largest aluminum mast” at some 246 feet.

Other features included design elements specifically to “favor alfresco entertainment” outdoors, such as a large covered saloon, as one charter company put it. And the interior was intended to “create familiar, pure, and natural atmospheres,” according to the charter description. Past photos show rooms bedecked in warmly lit neutrals and cream colors.

Where was the Bayesian yacht when the storm hit?

According to the Italian coast guard, the Bayesian was off the coast of Porticello in Sicily, on the northern tip of the island, when disaster struck on Monday.

A source close to the survivors previously told PEOPLE that the passengers were celebrating after Lynch, labeled in headlines as Britain's "Bill Gates," was acquitted in June in a financial fraud trial in the U.S. that was related to selling his software company Autonomy for $11 billion to Hewlett Packard in 2011.

“That's why he took his closest friends and colleagues on the trip,” the source said.

Lynch himself reflected on how his life had changed after coming out from under the shadow of his legal troubles. He told The Sunday Times in the U.K. in late July that he felt like he'd been given a "second life."

But "the question is," he said then, "what do you want to do with it?”

Who was on the yacht before it sank?

The 12 passengers included Lynch, his daughter Hannah and his wife, Angela Bacares; Chairman of Morgan Stanley International Jonathan Bloomer and his wife , Judy Bloomer; New York City-based lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife, jewelry designer Neda Morvillo; Charlotte Golunski , her partner, James, and daughter Sophie and Ayla Ronald , a colleague at Christopher Morvillo’s law firm.

The BBC reports that Ronald was also with her partner.

The 10 crew included cook Recaldo Thomas , who was among the seven victims who died, as well as the captain, reportedly named as James Cutfield, and others. According to The New York Times , one of the deck stewards was a 19-year-old South African native on his first such voyage.

Who was rescued from the yacht?

Bacares, Ronald and her partner, Golunski and her family and nine of the crew survived the sinking. The coast guard has said that some of them were “initially rescued by a boat in the immediate vicinity.”

Karsten Borner was the captain on the nearby boat and said he saw the yacht sink quickly.

"It all happened in really little time," he told Italian news outlet Rai, according to the BBC.

“The storm was over. We noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” Borner told the BBC. “And then we saw a red flare, so my first mate and I went to the position and we found this life raft drifting [with] 15 people inside."

Who died in the sinking?

Italian authorities have not yet publicly named all seven victims, though a government official told Reuters that Lynch was among the dead and the chef’s body was also identified to PEOPLE and other outlets by local sources involved in the investigation.

Five other passengers were initially described as missing and five more bodies have since been found in the wreck, sources said: Lynch’s daughter Hannah; Jonathan and Judy Bloomer and Christopher and Neda Morvillo.

Why did the Bayesian sink?

This has emerged as perhaps the key question in the tragedy , and the answer remains unclear.

One theory is that the boat capsized after being struck by a waterspout (which refers to a tornado over the water), though there may have been more factors at play that contributed to the sinking.

"The dynamics aren't clear — lightning, mini tornado, water spout, it's not clear exactly what happened," one person close to the search efforts tells PEOPLE. "The most likely hypothesis is that the cause was indeed a tornado that began at land and then sped out off coast and became a waterspout at sea with a speed of more than [180 miles] per hour, to the point that it managed to practically sink the ship whilst causing minimum damage to both the mast and the hull."

"Eyewitnesses said the boat went down in minutes," this person adds.

The source says the vessel’s upper hatches could have been open at the time of the disaster, which would have caused the boat to quickly fill up with water. The source also says that large amounts of water may have flowed onto the ship through the hatches as the vessel rocked back and forth during the storm.

“This would be the only thing that could cause the hull to rear up which, as several survivors told the investigators, made the ship sink in literally 60 seconds,” the source says.

Another factor that could have caused the yacht to lose stability was its movable keel, which is an underwater blade designed to help keep boats upright and prevent them from swaying back and forth, the source close to the investigation tells PEOPLE.

They say that the 30-foot keel was allegedly retracted to about 13 feet when the storm hit, while natural experts say it would have been strange to retract the keel at that location if the crew knew bad weather was approaching.

The boat’s 236-foot mast may also have also played a role in allowing the boat to rock, similar to a pendulum.

"This episode sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," Giovanni Costantino — who leads The Italian Sea Group, the company that now owns Perini Navi, which built the Bayesian in 2008 — said, according to CNN .

Speaking with PEOPLE, Costantino was more circumspect.

“I obviously can't say for certain [what happened],” he says, “but what I'm sure of is that the only reason a sailboat, especially one with Perini Navi technologies installed, could sink is if it fills with water."

Friends Pay Tribute to Hannah Lynch as 6th Body Recovered from Sunken Sicily Yacht: 'Beautiful Soul'

Hannah, 18, was the last remaining person missing after a luxury super yacht sank off the coast of Sicily on Aug. 19

FAMILY HANDOUT/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock

  • Hannah Lynch, the daughter of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and believed to be the last missing person found, was planning on attending the University of Oxford
  • Su Wijeratna, the headmistress at Hannah's former school, called her a “remarkable young woman and a gifted student"
  • "The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends," a spokesperson said in a statement

As the sixth and last body, believed to be that of Hannah Lynch, was recovered on Friday, Aug. 23 after the sinking of the luxury super yacht off the coast of Sicily earlier this week, family and friends of the 18-year-old are remembering her as a “warm and beautiful soul.”

PEOPLE previously reported that the "last person still missing in the Palermo shipwreck is identified," according to Italian coast guard sources on Aug. 23.

Four bodies were recovered on Wednesday, Aug. 21, while a fifth body was found in the wreckage. Among the dead was British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch , an Italian government official confirmed on Thursday, Aug. 22.

Until the discovery of the sixth body on Aug. 23, Hannah, Mike's daughter, was the last missing person after the Bayesian , a 183-foot vessel, sank on Monday, Aug. 19, when it was hit by a storm.

Amid Italian authorities’ efforts to find the six missing victims this week following the sinking, tributes have poured in for Hannah, who was planning to begin her academic year at the University of Oxford, where she recently won a place, as reported by The Telegraph .

Jon Mitropoulos-Monk, the head of English at London’s Latymer Upper School where Hannah previously attended, praised her. “I’ve never taught someone who combined sky-high intellectual ability with warmth and enthusiasm in the way Hannah did,” he said, via The Guardian . “She lit up the classroom with her energy, passion for learning and sheer intelligence (though never with a hint of arrogance).”

Mitropoulos-Monk said that Hannah was “one of the best English students in the country,” adding that she scored 100% in her English literature GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education).

“The love Hannah had for everything she held dear was passionate and pure,” said Katya Lewis, a friend, per The Independent . “She had a warm and beautiful soul. Being with Hannah made me feel whole and happy. She is the most special friend anyone could ask for and I will always love Hannah.”

In a statement shared with The Telegraph , Su Wijeratna, the headmistress at Latymer, called Hannah a “remarkable young woman and a gifted student.”

“She had the brightest of futures ahead of her and was so excited to be starting Oxford this year, to study her beloved English,” said Wijeratna.

“She was driven by a profound love of words that connected her to the world and her loved ones,” Wijeratna added. “As a community we are shocked and heartbroken over Hannah’s death and we send our thoughts and prayers to her family and all who knew her.”

PEOPLE reached out to Latymer Upper School for comment on Aug. 23.

A spokesperson for the Lynch family released a statement, per the BBC , that read: "The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends."

"Their thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy,” the statement continued. “They would like to sincerely thank the Italian coastguard, emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue."

Prior to the Bayesian ’s sinking on Aug. 19 near Porticello, Hannah and her father Mike, the founder of software company Autonomy, were among those aboard the yacht with 20 other people, including Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares. They were reportedly celebrating Mike’s acquittal in June of fraud and conspiracy charges in connection to Autonomy’s sale to Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for $11 billion. Had he been convicted, Mike could have served up to 25 years in prison.

In an interview with The Sunday Times published last month, Mike said his acquittal in the U.S. fraud trial had given him a "second life." However, he added: "The question is, what do you want to do with it?”

“If this [the verdict] had gone the wrong way, it would have been the end of life as I have known it in any sense," Mike told the newspaper. He also said he had "various medical things that would have made it difficult to survive."

Journalist Danny Fortson, who spoke with Mike for the Times piece, told PEOPLE that he appeared "incredibly grateful and happy," but was still "struggling to accept" his new reality .

In addition to Mike and Hannah, the other four missing persons from the sinking at the time included  Christopher Morvillo , a New York City attorney; his wife, jewelry designer Neda Morvillo; Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International; and his wife, Judy . Their bodies, as well as Mike's, were eventually recovered.

The body of another victim, identified as Recaldo Thomas , a chef, was earlier found shortly after the Bayesian capsized. Meanwhile, Bacares was one of 15 people rescued from the sinking yacht.

Superyacht Pure Insanity for sale at Yacht Xchange

A call to David Frazer at Yacht Xchange in Fort Lauderdale brings news that he has the 34.3m motor yacht Pure Insanity for sale.

Built at Baglietto's Varazze yard to a design by Francesco Paszkowski in 2008 and delivered in 2009, Pure Insanity is a planing open top yacht with twin 2,000hp MTU engines powering her to a cruising speed of 30 knots and a maximum speed of 33 knots. A minimalist interior, also by Paszkowski, accommodates eight guests in full beam master and VIP suites along with two convertible twin/double cabins.

David says she's asking €6 million and is currently reluctantly owned by a bank - now that's what I call pure insanity. For more information contact:

INDIO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 07: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) (L-R) Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Angus Young, ... (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Power Trip)

AC/DC’s Back in Black album was released more than 40 years ago, but somehow, it’s seemingly becoming more and more popular. The set never disappeared entirely, as Americans have always loved the hard rock collection, but its performance in just the past few months is especially impressive—and the band now has the awards to show just how huge the title remains.

Back in Black has earned a brand new platinum certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). The organization doles out those honors every time a song or album moves another one million equivalent units, between pure purchases and streaming activity.

AC/DC’s bestseller advances from 26-times platinum to 27-times platinum, or essentially 2.7 times diamond. It hasn’t been very long since the band’s Back in Black last snagged a new award from the RIAA, and that seems to suggest that consumption of the set is increasing.

On July 8, Back in Black was certified 26-times platinum. It had been nearly five years since the last time it collected any new plaque from the RIAA. In December of 2019, the title advanced to 25-times platinum status.

Amazingly, Back in Black required about half a decade to shift another million units, from 2019 to 2024. Then, the title only needed about a month to increase its all-time total by the same number of copies.

That same band continues to lead all acts and all releases, as their compilation Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is still in a distant first place. That set has moved 38 million units, according to the RIAA. Michael Jackson’s Thriller comes next, with its 34 million certified copies.
