The Yachting Festival – the inaugural event of the sailing season and Europe’s largest in-water show – is back from 6 to 11 September 2022, in Cannes. From the Vieux Port to Port Pierre Canto, all along the famous Croisette, the best of the international offering of motor, sailing, monohull and multihull vessels will be present.

Cannes Yachting Festival

The Yachting Festival has been the must-see event for luxury yachting for 45 years, and last year brought together 620 boats and almost 600 exhibitors. With an eclectic offer, all the major names in yachting get together in Cannes to open the sailing season and exhibit their new products and world previews.

For 2022, the Yachting Festival is unveiling a new and glamorous visual identity , which is in line with continuity while highlighting three units representing the show: a superyacht, a catamaran sailing boat and a dayboat. This new creation retains the main characteristics of the show’s DNA: elegance, clean lines, calm sea, horizon and lovely lifestyle that all inspire navigation. This new design also features a couple sharing a wonderful moment in an incredible setting. The Yachting Festival is a showcase for the gems of the seas, which highlights unique skills and the craftsmen of shipbuilding. It enables everyone – sea lovers, yachting fans, seasoned visitors and those who are simply curious – to discover a world, in an idyllic setting emblematic of the French Riviera.

“ We are delighted to unveil our new image and to have successfully illustrated both the countless assets of the Yachting Festival and the atmosphere of the show, which I feel is nothing short of magical. The exhibitors and visitors here alongside us last year could sense this special atmosphere as much as we could. Despite a difficult public health context, we all took real pleasure in coming together and seeing boats “in the flesh” rather than online! 2021 saw record visitor numbers, with over 54,000 visitors coming to admire 110 new boats between 10 and 35 metres in the Sailing Area, over 480 motorboats between 5 and 45 metres in the Vieux Port, and of course the second-hand boats over 22 metres exhibited in-water in the Yacht Brokerage Area. They were also able to discover the new Innovation Area for the “smart” start-ups of the nautical sector, as well as over 50 exhibitors presenting an environmentally-friendly concept with the new “Green Route”. Our goal for 2022 is to both expand the offer of the show and to give greater visibility to eco-friendly approaches, new technologies and luxury in the noblest possible way ,” explains Sylvie Ernoult, Director of the Yachting Festival.

Guide to the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023

Minimal Logo

For over 45 years, the Cannes Yachting Festival has been the first major international event of the boating season, as well as the Europe’s largest in-water boat show.

The 2023 6-day edition, which will be held from September 12-17, will certainly enchant the 55 thousand visitors expected with more than 650 boats on display, ranging from 5 to 50 meters, in response to the most varied owner needs.

A major new feature of the 2023 event is the creation of “The small boat area”, an area afloat in the Vieux Port, which will accommodate smaller boats , from 8 to 11 meters in length. The area will accommodate over 50 boats , once again offering the most eclectic offer possible, satisfying the demands of many exhibitors and owners, and also broadening the target audience.

“Thanks to the renewed confidence of our exhibitors, this 2023 edition is looking very good with similar forecasts to the previous year, i.e. 600 exhibitors, more than 650 boats and 140 previews – explains Sylvie Ernoult, Director of the Yachting Festival , before adding – Once again this year, our visitors will enjoy discovering some real gems in-water and on land, boats of all sizes and types, equipped with “traditional” or carbon-free engines with the first on-board electric, hybrid or hydrogen power systems. As is the case every year, all our teams are mobilised on a daily basis to offer a memorable experience to our exhibitors and visitors”.

This year’s edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival will host a large number of word premieres , the latest nautical equipment and numerous innovations, divided according to the reference activities of each port. Here is the guide to all the exhibition areas of this year’s event.

Cannes-Yachting-Festival-vieux-port

The Vieux Port: the world of motorboats

The Vieux Port, one of the oldest on the Côte d’Azur, plays host each year to modern and classic motor units presented by the world’s leading shipyards. This area focuses entirely on the motorboat industry and has an exceptional variety of units totaling almost 500 boats in water and on land, from small boats from 5 meters upwards to the largest prestigious superyachts exceeding 45 meters.

The Jetée area will welcome the major international shipyards and unveil their latest innovations presented as world previews. Boats above 22 metres will be exhibited here.

The Super Yachts Extension comprises three floating barges and will feature some thirty of the largest motor super yachts of over 24 metres exhibited at the Vieux Port.

catamarans

The Quai Saint-Pierre will exhibit luxury day-boats and powerboats ranging from 10 to 23 metres. Other types of model medium-sized open boats and fly-bridge boats will also feature on this quay, standing out for their design, power and elegance.

electric

Installed since 2021, opposite the Pantiero and the Quai Saint-Pierre, around fifty semi-rigid 10 to 20 metre boats will be on show in the middle of the water body; there is also an area showcasing some fifteen electric and hybrid boats.

sailing area

Port Canto: the realm of sailing

The Port Canto, located at the end of the Croisette, hosts three distinct areas: The Sailing area installed since 2019 is the biggest global in-water showcase for new super yachts. This magical place hosts over 120 yachts from 10 to 26 metres, including monohulls and multihulls.

Also at the heart of the Sailing area, the “ Start-up Village “, launched in 2021, highlights “smart” start-ups in the marine sector offering breakthrough technologies or services with high added value while protecting the maritime area. These start-ups are creating the future of yachting: yachting that is more powerful, more responsible and more environmentally friendly.

Cannes-Yachting-Festival-brokerage

Last but not least, the “Toys” area, established in 2018, takes advantage of the wide areas of this dyke to exhibit on-land an increasingly large selection of sport, fun and nautical activities equipment.

Cannes-yachting-Festival

Cannes Yachting Festival: on-land exhibition areas

On land are the exhibition areas dedicated to the marine accessories. The Equipment Village , for example, accommodates the ultimate in electronics, fittings, paints, as well as the essential accessories to maintain your boat from the major international companies.

The Palais des Festivals is home to a large area dedicated to high-end yachting players: shipyards, architects and designers, interior fittings, tourism institutions and marinas, service companies and the Tender area.

luxury

Last but not least, the Green Route, starting two years ago (when it was created), is becoming more and more important, giving space to the ecological transition and eco-sustainability issues, which are becoming increasingly relevant in the nautical world. For this reason, the ‘green’ route stretching from one side of the Croisette to the other will be central to addressing the issues of reducing the environmental impact of pleasure boating with boatyards and exhibitors, while also raising the awareness of visitors to take a more eco-sustainable approach to our seas.

While waiting to see what the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023 will have in store for us this year, The International Yachting Media as a media partner will keep you up to date with the news and everything about the festival.

Festival of the Sea 2023

The 2nd year of the Festival of the Sea was back with excellent weather and a great series of events across the weekend. Also for the first time it incorporated a new format SYC Cup, which built on prior years by also adding the Black Rock Long Inshore to the schedule.

The Festival of the Sea once again showed the fantastic diversity of activities at SYC. Paddle boarding, dinghy sailing, outriggers, yachts and of course the return of the crabbing competition put on a fantastic show. A great amount was raised for charity. The Keelboat Section, which takes the responsibility organising the entire event, thanks all the many volunteers that made this a success and the Steward and all staff at restaurant & bar for putting on great food and drinks.

Prizegiving for the SYC Cup attracted a lot of people to the bar but the real draw was another fantastic performance from the Wellington Wailers!

The winners of the most crabs caught with 45 were Jackson and Lottie Lancaster, ages 5 and 7.

KINGSTON, Ontario (AP) — A speed boat and a fishing boat collided on a lake north of Kingston, Ontario killing three people and injuring five others, Canadian police said.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash happened at around 9:30 p.m. local time Saturday night in the Bucks Bay area of Bobs Lake.

Two women ages 21 and 22 and a 23-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, they said.

Five others between the ages of 21 and 44 were transported to a local hospital with a range of injuries.

Police say one boat was described as an open bow fishing style boat and the other as a speed boat.

OPP spokesman Bill Dickson said an investigation was underway but did not provide further details.

Now we don’t want to wish the year away, but we’re ready to say goodbye to layers and coats.

Not to mention having the heating on and paying the (extortionate) price of being warm.

Still, festival season couldn’t come around quick enough. And is there anything better than singing your heart out with your friends, and having a cheeky cider (or two) in the sun?

The answer is always no.

From festivals hidden in the countryside and Cotswolds to parties in major cities, seaside and beyond. So when it comes to getting the crew out of the Whatsapp chat, we’ve found the best festivals and where to party this summer .

A view of crowds and fans in front of the Great Oak Stage ahead of Take That's performance at BST Hyde Park Festival 2023 at Hyde Park

Whether you’re into your rock, electronic, indie or pop music – trust us when we say there’s one that fits your music taste.

Following the recent announcements of Parklife’s lineup (hello Disclosure!), Reading & Leeds with Fred Again , and of course those Glastonbury rumours that always swirl – we can barely contain our excitement to be free, little bit muddy and loving life.

And how could we forget the masssssive news of Shania Twain playing BST with The Corrs, and KYLIE MINOGUE ! Can we get a yeeehaw?

Sure we like to kick the UK where it hurts occasionally, but no one really puts on a festival with an unmissable lineup like we do.

As for those music festivals abroad? Well at least we know to leave the wellies and waterproofs where they belong – still rotting in the binbag from last year.

For 2024, we are BLESSED with a plethora of incredible festivals happening all over the UK and Europe, with lineups to match.

We’ve listed the best of the very best below, how to get tickets, lineup that’s already been announce and anything else you need to know.

Jamaican ska great Stranger Cole is also on the bill, along with The Ethiopians, Susan Cadogan and The Pioneers.

Grant applicants need to demonstrate how the funds will benefit Black and Global Majority projects in the UK. Funding will be awarded in three rounds over two years, with the first round open from today (May 13) to June 30. The first grants will be awarded in September, with further rounds expected in November this year and September 2025. “The grants element is intended to service the specific needs of applicants, rather than being oppressively prescriptive – so as our campaign launches, we want to encourage everyone in the film, TV, and cinema industry to help us spread the word throughout their networks,” said Marcus Ryder, CEO of the Film and TV Charity.

Two dead and five missing after boat collision on the River Danube in Hungary

About 90 people are said to be involved in a river and air search for the three men and two women who are unaccounted for.

Two people have died and five are missing after a boat collision on the River Danube, Hungarian police have said.

Officers found a man with a bleeding head on the shore near Veroce, about 30 miles (48km) north of Budapest, on Saturday night.

Police believe he's a survivor from the incident after the bodies of a man and woman were found nearby.

A hotel boat with a damaged hull was stopped more than 50 miles (80km) further west at Komarom.

Hungarian news site Blikk reported it was 109m (357ft) long and had collided with a motorboat. It said the hotel ship probably travelled from Budapest.

The wreck of the smaller boat was found by rescuers early on Sunday morning and towed to shore.

The search for the missing - three men and two women - is said to involve about 90 people using boats, drones and thermal imaging cameras.

The bodies were recovered upriver from Hungarian capital Budapest. File pic/ AP

Criminal proceedings have begun against an unnamed individual on suspicion of causing death and endangering water transportation.

The stretch of the river at Veroce, where the survivor was found, is about 460m (1,500ft) wide and a popular recreational area.

It's also on the route used by many cruise boats travelling between Budapest and Austrian capital Vienna.

UK Israeli film festival to go ahead despite calls for boycott

Organisers of Seret international film festival say it has been a challenging few months but ‘we are not going to cave’

The organisers of an Israeli film festival that is due to open in the UK on Thursday have pledged to push ahead with the event despite pro-Palestinian artists urging venues to boycott it.

The Seret international film festival, now in its 13th year, will run from 16-23 May with a mission to “promote Israeli culture through cinema”. Odelia Haroush, its co-founder, said it had been a “very challenging” few months for organisers.

“I feel very frustrated,” she said. “But we are not going to cave and we’re not going to cancel the festival. Some people told us ‘maybe you will skip this year’ but for us it’s not even an option.”

Seret is a registered charity with sponsors including the Israeli culture ministry and the Israeli embassy in the UK, according to its website . The film festival is also held in Spain, the Netherlands, India, Germany, Chile and Argentina.

Protesters have called for boycotts over Israel’s military assault on Gaza, leading to a number of cancellations. Seret’s host cinema in Barcelona, Cinemes Girona, cancelled screenings a day before the event was due to begin.

“The owner told us he had received threats from pro-Palestinian groups who said they would make sure that none of the pro-Palestinians who live in Barcelona will come to his cinema again,” Haroush said. “He said his wife and daughter were very shaken about it. So in 24 hours we needed to find new locations for our festival.”

In Amsterdam, two of the main cinemas the festival had worked with cancelled screenings “because they were afraid for demonstrations and for their workers”, Haroush added.

At one screening in the city, “one of the demonstrators succeeded to get in the cinema hall, stood up with a Palestinian flag and started to shout. There was an Israeli guy in the cinema from Kibbutz Be’eri [one of the kibbutzim targeted in the 7 October Hamas attack on Israel] who was really shaken and upset from this.”

In the UK, Picturehouse and Curzon cancelled Seret screenings this year over safety concerns. Other screenings will have increased security in place. “We’re going to have in each and every single screening a lot of security, and if there’s a demonstration there will be police as well,” Haroush said.

On Tuesday, Artists for Palestine UK, a network of artists and cultural workers who advocate for Palestinian liberation, wrote to venues including the Phoenix Cinema, Everyman cinemas in Hampstead and Barnet, and JW3 urging them to boycott Seret .

“We write as film-makers, arts workers, London and Brighton residents and audiences who are ardent supporters of independent cinema,” they said.

“We are disturbed and horrified to find that Seret, the UK-Israeli film festival, is being held at several cinemas, co-sponsored by the Israeli government. In light of the gravity of the charges against the Israeli state and the scale of suffering being inflicted on millions of Palestinians, particularly but not limited to Gaza, we strongly urge you to cancel the forthcoming Seret events.”

The group said Seret was “part of a broader art-washing strategy” by the Israeli state using “culture to whitewash and cover up its crimes against the Palestinian people”.

after newsletter promotion

It is understood that front of house staff and managers at the Phoenix cinema objected to the decision to screen one of the festival’s films at the venue. The cinema has been hired privately by Seret, with tickets only available directly from the festival’s website.

Haroush expressed her belief that politics should be kept separate from culture. “Film-makers do not have to suffer because of the political situation,” she said. “Everyone should have the right to screen whichever films they want – Ukrainian films, Palestinian films, Israeli films, Syrian films, Russian films.”

She added: “From culture you can understand and learn so much about a country that actually it could act as a bridge. We don’t choose our films based on politics, we choose them purely for their artistic quality.

“Most of the film-makers are leftwingers, so you can see a lot of films that actually criticise Israel. It’s not about admiring Israel. It’s just about showing the cultural and social diversities within the Israeli society through film.”

Picturehouse, Curzon and Cinemes Girona were approached for comment.
