Seafair notebook: Legend Yacht Transport continues strong season

The U-11 Unlimited Racing Group, racing this season as Legend Yacht Transport, continued its strong season as competition for the Gold Cup kicked off Saturday at Seafair. Jamie Nilsen drove to a win in Heat 1B.

The U-11 team, while still searching for its first victory in a winner-take-all final, has been consistent this season and was even in first place in the seasonlong National High Points Standings at the halfway point.

It helped that there were flips in the finals of the first two races, while the U-11 kept itself upright.

“That’s boat racing. Expect the unexpected, right?” Nilsen said. “Whenever you have a real competitive field it exacerbates the uncertainty.”

This season also has continued the evolution of the U-11 team from a back-of-the-pack squad to right in the mix.

“Seeing this team happy and seeing their hard work pay off is what makes it really special for me and a huge reason why I do it,” Nilsen said.

Some strong racing

Corey Peabody is on a win streak. The driver of the U-9 Beacon Plumbing won Heat 1A and Heat 2B.

That comes on the heels of a perfect weekend last week at the Columbia Cup in the Tri-Cities, where he was the top qualifier, won all his heats and the final.

Peabody entered Seafair 19 points behind Strong Racing teammate and childhood friend J. Michael Kelly in the U-8 Beacon Electric. Kelly won Heat 2A and was third in Heat 1A, setting up what could be an interesting Sunday.

Still no undercard

Since Seafair came back from its two-year absence during the COVID pandemic, it hasn’t had smaller classes of boats racing.

Pre-pandemic, the F1 Tunnel Boats were the undercard for the unlimited hydroplanes.

Seafair officials said Saturday a busy schedule between an extra heat for the Gold Cup and the airshow scuttled the undercard this year.

Having smaller boats in future Seafairs is a possibility if there is a sponsor, Seafair officials said.

• When qualifying wrapped up Saturday morning, Andrew Tate in the Miss Goodman Real State had the top speed at 154.462 mph.
• Brent Hall, who was trying to become first Black driver to qualify to drive an unlimited hydroplane, had to officially withdraw because of a broken gear box on the 440 Boitano Homes. Hall needed one more lap over 130 mph to qualify.

Legend Yacht Transport Steps Up To Back U-11 Unlimited Hydroplane Team

A well-known figure in yacht transportation logistics, David Holley also is a longtime true believer in the marketing power of Unlimited hydroplane racing. Through his former employer, he backed an Unlimited hydro team for several years. Now the chief executive officer of South Florida-based Legend Yacht Transport, he’s back in the sponsorship game again with the U-11 for the upcoming for the H1 Unlimited racing series Bayfair event, September 16-18, in San Diego.

 “Having been part of the sport over the years in the past, I have been watching the development and the quality of the show,” Holley said in a recent press release from the Washington-based team. “Despite a lower boat count, it is clear to us that H1 is focusing on giving the fans what they want and increasing the time on the water. They certainly offer sponsors great return on investment.

“As we transport lots of yachts from the West Coast of the United States to Florida and back, this is a great opportunity to showcase our brand in California,” he continued. “The U-11 boat has consistently performed this year and we know from experience that the team has what it takes to represent our company in a professional and dedicated manner.”

The U-11 team heads into San Diego Bayfair fourth in the national points standings. A model of consistency, the team has notched three third-place finishes in as many races this season.

“We are thrilled to represent Legend Yacht Transport at the San Diego Bayfair race,”” said Shannon Raney of the U-11 team in the release. “Dave Holley has been a great friend to all types of boat racing, and it excites us to be able to showcase this emerging company to all of our fans.”

Kamaz FTL hauler registers NatCar brand

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - National Carrier JSC, the full truckload freight trucking company headed by former Globaltruck CEO Ilya Sattarov that Russian truck maker Kamaz founded this summer, applied to register the brand NatCar at the end of August, the registry of federal intellectual property service Rospatent showed.

The NatCar brand is also mentioned in the recruitment ads of National Carrier, which is actively looking for E-class drivers. It is offering working with this year's model Kamaz diesel trucks from the flagship K5 line and new dry goods (curtainsider) and refrigerated trailers.

National Carrier was founded on July 7 in Moscow with charter capital of 1 billion rubles, the Unified State Register of Legal Entities showed. The company registered two branches in early August, in Yekaterinburg and Elektrostal, Moscow Region. The company specializes in truck logistics and associated activities, including digitization processes.

A spokesman for National Carrier told Interfax earlier that the company plans to provide FTL trucking services using its own fleet, "as well as the resources of hired truckers." The company's fleet will initially consist of 400 semi-trailer trucks with a 50/50 ratio of curtainside to refrigerated trailers, and it plans to primarily operate on domestic routes, he said.

The company has preliminary agreements with major customers among marketplaces and retailers in the FMCG and DIY segments, the spokesman said. Strong demand for trucking services is expected toward the end of the year, so there is interest from customers, he said.

Kamaz marketing director Ashot Arutyunyan announced at the International Moscow Automotive Forum at the end of August that the truck maker was the principal investor in National Carrier. He did not comment on the new company's shareholder structure, but said it is a Kamaz startup.
