famous yacht show

A BOAT SHOW is a public exhibition or trade fair of current boat models, debuts, concept vessels, or out-of-production classics. Due to the nature of the industry building around yachting and nautical tourism, a boat show may be a social event. It is commonly attended by marine manufacturers, ship and boat builders as well as yachtsmen.

Most boat shows occur once a year, typically for the duration of a week. They may have exhibitions on land or on water. Boat shows are vital to marine manufacturers and local dealers as a public relations exercise, for advertising products, and for increasing publicity.

The 23 Best Annual Boat Shows by Month and Location

If you are a boat enthusiast and haven’t been to a boat show in a while, you are certainly missing out. Check out your favorite boat brands in person, and meet with fellow boat lovers and industry experts all in one place.

This article lists the 23 best annual boat shows by month and location so you can make your arrangements beforehand. Learn from the experts and take your hobby to the next level.

Why are Boat Shows Popular? | boat show calendar

Boat shows are popular since they allow the general public to learn and understand the industry better and appreciate and adopt the boating lifestyle. Boat shows are an industry itself, with different international organizations focused on managing and staging boat shows annually.

They are held in all 50 states and throughout the globe in various countries. The season generally starts in October and continues till March. Most small and regional shows are held at marinas or inside convention centers, which makes them easy to browse.

What to do at a boat show?

Boats for sale are, without a doubt, the main attraction of a boat show , but there’s so much more you can do while attending one. From trying new foods to indulging in different water activities, a boat show has a lot to offer.

  • Bring a camera or a notebook to record notes along with information on different boat sellers, and be sure to hand them your business card. This will help you solidify your network.
  • By interacting with the dealers, check out brand-new deals and the latest boating technology.
  • Browse through the shops and take home a souvenir or two.
  • Get “hands-on” knowledge regarding a boat or a boating accessory by attending a seminar or workshop to see their inner workings.
  • Indulge in some delectable foods from the stalls.
  • Some boat shows offer water activities, such as fishing and scuba diving. Grab your friends and family and make new memories with those fun aquatic adventures.
You got your event admission (tickets) and ready to see the attractions along with the gathering of attendees & boaters. Make sure to look for bargains for you to purchase and boat displays and latest boat models. Expect to se clothing for boaters and learn about the latest boat devices and electronics (products/accessories/technology) from special exhibits by big name exhibitors. All this will add to the experience for a watercraft show whether it was put on by an insurance company or a boating industry association. Yacht shows could even have brokerages or NMMA/BoatUS booths.

Are boat shows the best time to buy? | Do boat shows have good deals

Boat shows are an excellent time for dealers to display their products and make big sales. Since the competition is fierce, you can most likely avail of big discounts and benefit from good deals. You also get the opportunity to browse a huge variety of boats and select one that fits your needs perfectly. You can get expert advice about vessels you’re interested in from competitors since they’re more likely to point out drawbacks or flaws of the craft.

At the end of the day, the best time to buy a boat is when you’re ready for investment and adventure. Whether you buy a boat from a boat show, through a broker, or privately through a website, do a thorough background check and get an unbiased second opinion.

The 12 Most Exciting New Yachts at the Palm Beach International Boat Show

Wrapping up the international boat-show season, this year's pbibs could be a banner event, with the largest gathering of superyachts in its history..

The Palm Beach International Boat Show Will have the Largest Selection of Superyachts Ever

From the $148-million Feadship Arrow , to a stylish, fish-fighting 37-foot center console from Turkey’s Vicem, the 2023 Palm Beach International Boat Show promises be a boat-lover’s nirvana. The focus this year will be on superyachts for sale, with more than 50 expected. We highlight five of the biggest and best as well as seven global and US premieres of smaller boats for the rest of us.

The action on the West Palm Beach waterfront kicks off Thursday, running through Sunday. Here are 12 newcomers you don’t want to miss.

Feadship ‘Arrow’

famous yacht show

Rumor has it that mega-successful British hedge-fund manager Michael Platt is looking to trade-in his 245-foot Feadship Arrow . The founder of BlueCrest Capital, Europe’s third-biggest fund, took delivery of the yacht in 2020 and now it will make its show debut at PBIBS in search of a buyer. It comes with a jaw-dropping $148 million asking price. Designed by London-based H2 Yacht Design, the Feadship has cabins for 12 guests and a main-deck owner’s suite to die for. Other standout features include a state-of-the-art gym, massive beach club with drop-down side terraces, a stunning top-deck bar and lounge area, massage room, and enough water toys to equip a cruise ship. She’s fast, with twin MTUs delivering a 17.5-knot top speed.

Benetti ‘Alfa’

famous yacht show

With its plumb bow and curving superstructure, the 229-foot Benetti Alfa looks like many contemporary designs these days. But the brokerage yacht’s real innovation lies at the stern, with a split-level beach club that includes an infinity pool (that transforms to a dance floor with a cover) on the deck above, and a full-beam lounge under the pool, with drop-down balconies on each side to increase openness and width. The owner also specified his own deck, with a bedroom, office, gym, massage room, television room, bar and breakfast area—not to mention an 860-sq.-foot sunken forward sundeck.

Benetti ‘Calex’

famous yacht show

Delivered just a year ago to its California owner, the stunning 219-foot Benetti superyacht Calex is making a surprise appearance at the Palm Beach show—to showcase the boatbuilding skills of the Italian shipyard. Built with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Calex ‘s sleek, low-slung lines are from the drawing board of designer Giorgio Cassetta. Belowdecks is a seven-cabin layout that can accommodate 14 guests, with the highlight being the massive 1,770-sq-ft owner’s deck. Here, in addition to the master suite, is the owner’s lounge, bar and office, plus a private sundeck with gym, spa and gas fireplace. Word has it that Calex ‘s owner is billionaire Southern California auto dealer David Wilson, whose Wilson Automotive Group boasts 17 dealerships and annual sales of around $2 billion.

Palmer Johnson ‘DB9’

famous yacht show

Named after the classic V12 Aston Martin model, the 9,200-hp, 171-foot DB9 is a speed demon that can blast across the water at 37 mph—or about three times the speed of most yachts its size. The iconic Palmer Johnson, the only one built in England, was first launched back 2010. Its lines from Venice design firm Nuvolari/Lenard make it look fast, even at the dock. In 2019, the new owner upgraded its systems while having its exterior repainted in a metallic Champagne color, with the signature red boot stripe. The boat has three pools, including a 26-foot-long saltwater pool on the foredeck that doubles as the boat’s tender storage when it’s empty. DB9 promises to be one of Palm Beach’s brokerage stars.

Amels ‘Come Together’

famous yacht show

Named after the Beatles song, Come Together is the first Amels Limited Edition 60 that was launched last year. It is distinguished by a geometrically shaped exterior with a metallic hull. The owner of the 197-footer used the yacht for exploring the world, but his plans changed and it’s now on the brokerage market. The yacht has a touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck, a DJ booth, and a large beach club for water sports. On the sundeck is a teppanyaki grill, bar, hot tub and drop-down cinema screen. The interior by Winch Design has a beachy theme, with refined details like leather handrails, brass inlays and appliqué walls. The design firm focused on stones and wood to create beautiful but highly tactile finishes. A patterned, stylized stairwell is Come Together ’s centerpiece.

Princess S72

The Palm Beach International Boat Show Will have the Largest Selection of Superyachts Ever

Fresh from its January debut at the Düsseldorf Boot indoor boat show, the super-stylish S72 from Britain’s Princess Yachts, is making its splashy, in-water debut and key North American premiere at Palm Beach. Designed by the Princess studio, with Pininfarina adding Italian flair, the S72 joins the Princess S Class line-up of S62, S66 and S78 coupe-style fast cruisers. With twin MAN V12 diesels—choose between 1,650-hp or 1,800-hp—this big-windowed cruiser has a top speed of up to 36 knots. Unusual design features include a huge tender garage, expansive power sunroof above the helm, and a spacious flybridge. Princess is also showing the all-new F65, while giving the X80 its first US airing.

Intrepid 51 Panacea

famous yacht show

Florida-based Intrepid Powerboats is unwrapping its biggest, and fastest, center console to date, the new flagship 51 Panacea. Priced at around $2 million, it’s also the most-expensive Intrepid yet. Big brother to the builder’s more cruising-focused 475 Panacea , the new 51-footer is fresh from the keel up, with an all-new, smooth-riding stepped hull, broader beam, and greater deck space. The extra length has also been used to incorporate a second row of four-across seating behind the helm, a big hardtop with wraparound windshield, and an outdoor galley in the cockpit. To escape the sun, there’s also a roomy cabin with side access, a forward V-berth and head with shower. While the base engine package is a quintet of Mercury 450 Racing outboards, the 51 Panacea is also being offered with four Verado 600 V12s.

Horizon PC68

famous yacht show

Power cat specialist Horizon definitely has the power part covered with its brand-new PC68, making its global debut in Palm Beach. With a pair of 850-hp MAN turbo-diesels, Horizon talks about a “cruising” speed, rather than top speed, of 20 knots for the 68 footer. Its fuel capacity of 1,500 gallons, the PC68’s range should be extensive—though Horizon has yet to release that data. Equally impressive is the amount of deck and interior space provided by the 24-foot beam. In each of the hulls is an equal-sized master suite with king-sized bed, along with separate VIP guest cabins with twin beds that slide together to form a king. The upper flybridge deck is also generous with its space, featuring a walkthrough windshield to a Portuguese bridge and open deck area with exceptional views.

Zeelander 5

famous yacht show

After a year-long tease, Dutch builder Zeelander’s Z5 is making global debut at Palm Beach. The still-unapologetically-retro 50-footer carries on where the Z44 left off. Besides an extra four feet of hull, the all-new Z5 features bigger windows in the wheelhouse with new, pencil-thin windshield frames, and an even more voluptuous rear end with a swim platform almost twice the size of the Z44’s. Powered by three Volvo IPS-650s, this new Z5 can hit a top speed of over 40 knots, yet the builder’s focus on noise reduction makes this Zeelander’s quietest boat yet. The longer hull has helped increase the size of the amidships owner’s cabin which now benefits from bigger hull windows.

Vicem 37 CC

famous yacht show

Turkish wooden boat master Vicem is dipping a toe into the fiberglass center-console market with the Vicem 37 CC, making its world debut at the Palm Beach show. So new is the first hull that it won’t actually arrive at the show until the second day, and with no time to officially photograph the finished boat, there are only renderings available. Vicem teamed-up with Turkish designer and passionate angler Murat Iyriboz and Virginia-based DLBA Naval Architects to shape the new 37 CC. In addition to a center console, the 37 will also be offered as an express cruiser. In true Vicem style, the boat will combine elements that are modern and traditional—like teak coaming around the bow and quilted, hand-stitched upholstery. Buyers can choose from dual or triple outboards, with total possible horsepower of 1,000 hp, with the largest motors projected to give a 45-knot top speed.

Numarine 26XP Fast

famous yacht show

Seems American boat owners love to go fast. Which is why Turkish builder Numarine is debuting a U.S.-focused version of its beefy 26XP explorer-style 85-footer at the Palm Beach show, appropriately titled the 26XP Fast. And fast it is, courtesy of a pair of honking 1,800-hp MAN diesels powering the planing hull version of the 26XP. Flat out, the 85-footer does an impressive 31 knots. According to Numarine, the boat is the fastest in its class. That’s a big step up from the standard, full-displacement-hulled 26XP with twin 435-horse MANs. It has a leisurely 13.5-knot top speed but will be drinking a lot less fuel. What hasn’t changed is the 26XP’s headturning Can Yalman exterior design, with that high, vertical bow, quirky-shaped bulwarks, reverse-angle pilothouse windows and stubby foredeck. Plus, its massive 700-square-foot flybridge.

Arksen Adventure 30

famous yacht show

Dubbed the Land Rover of the seas, this new, tough-as-nails Adventure 30 from Britain’s explorer-yacht builder Arksen , is making its U.S. debut. Best known for its world-girding 65- to 85-foot Explorer series, Arksen partnered with Finland’s XO Boats to build this new 30 and its smaller Adventure 28 sibling. While not exactly a Palm Beach-style cruiser, with its exposed, military-grade aluminum hull, enclosed pilothouse, and distinct lack of sun loungers, the boat is a natural for the rugged Pacific Northwest. But it’s not all basics. Teak covers the decks. There is leather on the steering wheel and a comfortable V-berth in the cabin. Offered with either a single 350-hp outboard, or twin 250s, top speed is more than 45 knots, and with fuel in the tanks the range is 230 miles at 25 knots.

It’s a real boating extravaganza, with a water stage filled with weird and wonderful new watersports tech, trial watersports sessions for the kids, as well as plenty of boats to view including classics and sailboats.

Did you know? There is a strong emphasis on environmental research and marine conservation at the show, and even the seafood served is from sustainable sources.

More than 1,200 superyacht projects were on the global order books in 2023, a 17.5% increase compared to previous years. With a boom in charters, new builds, and technology, demand is expected to continue well into 2024 and beyond. Younger clients are becoming more enticed by the yachting industry, with the average age of superyacht owners now being between 35 and 45.

This year’s yacht events will be center stage at some of the most stunning destinations across the globe. Displaying the best craftsmanship, advancements, and amenities the boat industry has to offer, here are some impressive yacht shows you won’t want to miss.

Mediterranean Yacht Show 2024:

April 27 – May 1

Returning once again to the beautiful Greek island of Nafplio, the Mediterranean Yacht Show presents yacht owners and brokers the ultimate opportunity to showcase their luxury crewed vessels. The shows will attract even more interest for this year’s 8th annual event as boating professionals prepare for what is expected to be the busiest summer charter season in recent years. Regarded as the world’s largest crewed charter show, over 3,500 LOA luxury yachts will be on display, 750 brokers are slated to be in attendance, and 42 exhibitors will be available. Located off the Argolic Gulf, this breathtaking destination also provides a variety of social programs for attendees, in addition to the numerous vessels anchored in the marina. Whether you decide to relax after a day of exploration or are in search of some fun, visitors can try out the renowned soirées while taking in the gorgeous views.

For the perfect oasis away from the yacht show’s bustling activities and crowds, check out the Amalia Hotel. This resort was originally built to reflect the town’s rich culture and history. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and palm trees, the neoclassical architecture creates a spacious flow, providing guests with complete relaxation. By booking through HotelPlanner, a classic room with either double or twin beds starts at $109.

Cannes Yachting Festival:

The Cannes Yachting Festival is one of the world’s most famous nautical events and the largest in-water yacht show in the Mediterranean. The six-day celebration regularly draws more than 50,000 visitors and includes a range of vessels from 5 to 50 meters in length. Located in the timeless French Riviera, guests can explore a retinue of the popular boats, tenders, and different elements of the luxury yachting lifestyle. As a fun element, a select number of brands offer daily sea trials aboard their unique vessels. In addition to this, seminars are offered throughout the festival, as well as competitions and demonstrations. To shake things up, a new sector will be presented in dedication to new motor boats that are over eight meters long. For those interested, this display will be located in Port Canto, one of the two beautiful ports in Cannes. For those looking to get back to land, a special selection of outboard engines will be available in town. A staggering 700 vessels will be shown throughout the celebration, including water, sailing, motor, monohull, multihull, rigid, and semi-rigid hull boats. To capture the prestigious moments of Europe’s top in-water boat show, an estimated 592 journalists will be in attendance from 5 continents.

Less than 10 minutes away from the Vieux Port lies the gorgeous Hotel Barriere Le Majestic. There are over 250 rooms within the hotel, which faces the Mediterranean Sea and overlooks the famous steps of Palais des Festivals. Located on La Croisette, the charming hotel is also a fantastic place for foodies hoping to taste some incredible Mediterranean dishes.

Abu Dhabi International Boat Show:

November 21 – 24

As the leading maritime and leisure event in the Middle East, boat fanatics from across the globe will get to experience a unique display of yachts at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center’s marina. The three-day event will take place at the newly completed waterfront hall, making it one of the few boat shows in the world to offer visitors indoor and outdoor nautical events simultaneously. Live demonstrations and interactive experiences will be available throughout the 40,000-square-meter facility. Outside of the traditional yacht show, the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show will offer exclusive lifestyle programs with showcases of water sports and other special marine technology from local and international brands. A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

Insider Today

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocketed potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to charter in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

Related stories

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Article At-A-Glance

  • The 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be held Oct. 25-29.
  • More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend FLIBS in 2023.
  • More than 1,300 boats are typically on display for attendees to check out.
  • Some yacht-builders with new-for-2023 models include Benetti, Azimut, Wally, Princess, Sirena, Sunseeker, Galeon, Sunreef, Maritimo, Aquila, Viking, Ocean Alexander and Rivera.

New Yachts from European Builders

Benetti and Azimut will be bringing their Italian-built yachts to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, while the Ferretti Group’s Wally brand will be present with its Monaco-based flair. Benetti will display the 112-foot Oasis 34M Ubiquitous, while Azimut will be showing four models in the United States for the first time, and Wally will be featuring the wallywhy150 .

Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous

The Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous is scheduled to make its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This is a 112-foot fiberglass motoryacht with exteriors by RWD in Britain and interiors by the New York firm Bonetti & Kozerski. The stern on Ubiquitous has Benetti’s Oasis Deck, which includes two wings that open to enlarge the space. An infinity pool is here as well, and the space adjoins the main-deck salon to give guests the option of sun-drenched or shaded spaces for relaxation.

Also at the show: Benetti will showcase the B.Yond 37M Never Say Never Again. It’s a 121-foot motoryacht from architect Stefano Righini with an E-Mode Hybrid system from Siemens Energy. The idea is to reduce harmful emissions while giving owners the option of four operating modes, including a fully electric mode for zero-emissions cruising.

Four New Yachts from Azimut

Azimut will have four yachts making their Americas premiere at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show: the Verve 48 outboard, Magellano 60, Grande 36M and S7.

The Verve 48 outboard is a sport boat for weekends, designed in collaboration with Francesco Struglia. Its power is triple 600 hp Mercury outboards that promise a top speed of 50 knots. The stern has been updated from previous models; it now includes “the most extensive swim platform ever,” according to Azimut.

Crossover appeal is at the heart of the Magellano 60, with features intended for longer-distance cruising. For sustainability, the Azimut Magellano 60 can be delivered with HVOlution , a biofuel produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility. Azimut says this fuel, when combined with the shipyard’s semi-planing Dual Mode hull, can reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by more than 80 percent compared to yachts using traditional fuel.

With the Grande 36M, Azimut is showcasing a semi-walkaround upper deck that runs on the same level from the stern almost to the tip of the bow. The idea is to create an area that didn’t exist before on boats this size. Exterior design on the Azimut Grande 36M is by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Achille Salvagni.

The Azimut S7 is a 72-foot yacht built with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion and a “super-lightweight” hull for a sporty ride. Azimut says the S7 also reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions by as much as 30 percent compared to shaft-line boats with traditional chine hulls. Exteriors are by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Yachtique.

wallywhy150

The wallywhy150 is also expected to be on display at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, following its international debut at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival in France.

This 78-foot motoryacht can be ordered with triple Volvo Penta IPS1350 engines for a maximum speed of 23 knots. With the standard Volvo Penta IPS1200s, that figure is 21 knots. Exterior spaces include a completely open upper deck with dining, sunbathing and a shaded lounge. Inside, there’s sole-to-ceiling glass for great views, with a main-deck master stateroom as well as guest staterooms belowdecks. The yacht can be ordered with a VIP and two guest staterooms, or with twin VIPs.

New Yachts from the UK, Turkey, Poland, Australia and China

Princess Yachts and Sunseeker International, both in the United Kingdom, will have new yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Also from overseas will be new models from the Turkish builder Sirena Yachts, Polish builders Sunreef and Galeon, Australian builders Maritimo and Riviera, and China-based Aquila Power Catamarans and Ocean Alexander.

Princess Yachts Y95

The Princess Yachts Y95 is the new flagship of the builder’s Y Class series, which features open-flybridge models 72 feet and larger. This 95-footer can reportedly achieve a top hop of 24 knots, thanks to the twin 2,000 hp MAN V-12 engines, and it has a full-beam master stateroom on the main deck that lets in extra natural light through skylights. Guests are accommodated in four belowdecks staterooms. Draft is 6 feet, 6 inches, making the Princess Y95 a yacht that allows for access to the world’s most beautiful harbors.

Sunseeker Ocean 182

The Sunseeker Ocean 182, which was also displayed at the Newport International Boat Show, is an 88-foot yacht that is the fifth model in the builder’s Ocean series. It has an enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge that is home to the only helm station on board. Power is a pair of 1,650 hp or 1,900 hp MAN V-12s, with the builder promising a top speed of 27 knots. At a cruise speed of 12 knots, range is reportedly 1,800 nautical miles. All the guest accommodations are belowdecks: an amidships, full-beam master along with four guest staterooms.

Turkish builder Sirena Yachts is bringing the Sirena 78 to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Its design is by Cor D. Rover and Germán Frers, with the builder reporting a top speed of 27 knots as well as a cruising range of 1,550 nautical miles. Some of the key design features include a versatile flybridge with customizable spaces and sizable guest accommodations.

The Superpowered Princess X80

Princess Yachts is also bringing its X80 explorer motoryacht to the Fort Lauderdale show. Along with 31-knot speed and four en suite staterooms, the X80 has what the builder calls a “super flybridge.” Princess says this deck is 30 percent bigger than other flybridges on similarly sized flybridge yachts. This space has four gathering areas, including two sun pads forward, a wet bar aft and an L-shaped settee with a dining table to port. The X80’s main deck is dedicated entirely to socializing, with an L-shaped settee accompanied by a dining table forward.

Galeon 450 HTC

The big premiere from Galeon Yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be the Galeon 450 HTC. It’s a Tony Castro design that can be ordered with an optional hydraulic swim platform and an optional third stateroom for guests. The standard layout is two staterooms with two heads, including a full-beam master. This yacht has a 4-foot, 3-inch draft that allows it to access skinny waters in locations like the Bahamas . Power is a pair of 480 hp Volvo Penta D6 engines.

80 Sunreef Power Eco

Polish builder Sunreef Yachts will be making a big show of the first 80 Sunreef Power Eco , which has been christened SÓL (after the Norse sun goddess). Sunreef is heralding this vessel as the most advanced electric luxury catamaran in the world, with a “solar skin” built into the hull, and the biggest battery bank in its category of recreational yachts. Accommodations are for eight guests

Maritimo M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht

Maritimo’s M60 Flybridge Motor Yacht will make its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Its hull has a variable deadrise with a deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft, all intended for comfortable and efficient offshore cruising . Standard power is twin 800 hp Volvo Penta D13s. Owners also can opt for 1,000 hp Volvo Pentas or 1,150 hp Scania Di16s.

Riviera 585 SUV: Does It All

Riviera says its multi-uses 585 SUV represents the “culmination of 10 years of evolution and the launch of more than 220 SUV yachts.” The yacht has three staterooms and three heads with a full-beam master amidships. In addition to its cruising, water-sports and angling flexibility, the 585 SUV is entertainment-centric with its sizable cockpit and semi-enclosed alfresco deck. Power is a pair of 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s or 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350s. For flybridge enthusiasts, the builder is also debuting its 46 Sports Motor Yacht.

Aquila 47 Molokai

Built in China, the Aquila 47 Molokai is the latest model from Aquila Power Catamarans. It’s outfitted for offshore cruising and fishing, with an en suite stateroom that’s air-conditioned and a queen-size berth. The design and build are a collaboration of Sino Eagle Yachts and Peart Yacht Design.

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Crewed-Yacht Living

The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend is a 120-foot superyacht penned by Evan K. Marshall, notable for its sole-to-ceiling glass across three decks, allowing for ocean vista from most points on board. From its seaside beach club to its foredeck lounge, rest and relaxation is at the forefront of this yacht’s design. Off the cockpit, power doors slide away allowing guests to enter the open-plan salon, which benefits from the aforementioned glass, enabling light to flood the space. A formal dining space for 10 is forward in the salon. The sense of volume and openness is palpable. The 32L has a main-deck master suite as well as four guest staterooms belowdecks. This yacht also has a skylounge with a wet bar, a TV, an ice-maker and a refrigerator, expanding entertaining options. Other alfresco spaces include a hot tub aft on the upper deck and a foredeck with a sun pad. Power is twin 2,600 hp MTU diesels.

Riviera 46 Sports Motor Yacht

Riviera’s 46 Sports Motor Yacht is a part of a lineup that also includes 50, 64 and 72 Sports Motor Yachts. The Australian builder collaborated with 4D Designs on the 52-footer, which has a variety of entertaining spaces, from a semi-enclosed cockpit and the flybridge to the salon and foredeck sun pad. Belowdecks, there are three double-berth staterooms and two heads. Owners can also opt to add a hydraulic swim platform. Riviera has two power options for the 46: twin 725 hp Volvo Penta D11 IPS 950s or twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8 IPS 800s.

Built in the USA: Viking 90

The Viking 90 made its official debut earlier this year at the Miami International Boat Show, but Hull No. 1 is still on its premiere-year tour. It’s been turning anglers’ heads out on the fishing circuit, hauling in big catch. All expectations are that it will continue to impress show-goers at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Viking 90: Ultimate Fishability

The Viking 90 has a fuel capacity of 3,801 gallons in four tanks, which gives the yacht long legs for getting to and from the canyons to chase big game. It can be ordered with an enclosed or an open bridge, and it has a one-piece wraparound, enclosed-bridge windshield for improved visibility. The cockpit has 224 square feet of dance space with a 203-gallon fishbox/live well and a pair of 103-gallon insulated, in-deck fishboxes. Refrigeration on those fishboxes is optional. A Seakeeper 35 is installed to keep everything steady at sea, and the cockpit sole is built with reinforcement for a fighting chair.

Viking 90: Interior Creature Comforts

When the day’s fishing is done, the Viking 90 has six staterooms (including a full-beam master) and seven heads to let everyone relax in comfort. There’s a U-shaped lounge in the salon, along with a home theater that includes a 65-inch high-definition TV. For more casual snacks, the galley has engineered-stone countertops with an overhang and five bar stools, along with a dinette on an elevated platform for great views of the outdoors.

The Yachting World hall of fame: 50 yachts that changed the way we sail

Helen Fretter

We asked historians, round the world race winners and legendary sailors to name the yachts that changed the sport for good. In no particular order, these are the 50 yachts that shifted how we sail...

1. Mariquita

Built: 1911 Design: William Fife III

Mariquita is a living link between the ‘Big Class’ behemoths, such as Britannia , the J Class and all that went after, including the hugely popular 12-metres. The 125ft gaff cutter was launched as part of a new 19-metre class designed to pitch matched yachts against one another.

Just four were built. Mariquita performed well, particularly in light airs. She also, uniquely, survived. Having been used as a houseboat for many years, she was discovered in the mud in 1991 and lovingly restored to relaunch in 2003, and she still races today.

2. ABN Amro One

Built: 2005 Design: Juan Kouyoumdjian

Two Volvo Ocean Race -winning skippers nominated Juan Kouyoumdjian’s ABN Amro One , the 5.6m beam, aggressively chined winner of the 2005-06 race. Her skipper Mike Sanderson comments: “I am biased, but I think ABN Amro One was very special and really did change people’s thinking about what made a good offshore race boat.

“As this was the first generation of Volvo 70s it was always going to be an interesting time seeing how people translated the rule,” says Sanderson. The other factor was many of the team’s involvement in Open 60 sailing.

“We very much looked at the concept of the boat differently: no spinnaker pole, furling No.4 Jibs, twin rudders, lazyjacks, snuffers on spinnakers… They all went from being equipment that was only used on single-handed boats to our team thinking it could make us faster around the world, day in day out.”

43 of the best bluewater sailboat designs of all time

Which yacht is the best for bluewater boating? This question generates even more debate among sailors than questions about what’s…

Ian Walker , winner of the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race, recalls: “This generation of boats smashed the previous 24-hour records and made the 600-mile day possible. ABN Amro was quite radical structurally but the key thing was she prioritised stability over anything else – such as wetted surface area.

“The Farr boats were lower wetted surface area and even started out with spinnaker poles! Asymmetric spinnakers meant sailing higher angles and more often needing righting moment.

“ABN Amro One also had twin rudders and more transom immersion, which meant it was slow in light winds but fast at high speed. There was some doubt when it was last in the first in-port races and because much of the race is in light winds, but it was so fast reaching that it negated any weaknesses.”

The black boat went on to win six of the nine offshore legs. Sanderson adds: “In all the Volvo 70s that where built – and to be honest in all the offshore boats that have followed ( Rambler , Comanche etc.) – you can see a bit of ‘Black Betty’ as we nicknamed her.”

3. TP52 Patches

Built: 2007 Design: Reichel Pugh

Originally created to produce fast yachts for the Transpac Race, the TP52 class developed into an owner-driven inshore circuit which continues to attract the world’s best monohull sailors (these days as the Super Series). One development refined on the TP was the change to wide aft sections.

“We started off with quite narrow sterns and the working deck stopping well over one metre forward of the stern,” comments class manager Rob Weiland. “We now see an almost continuous width of the working deck from Beam Max aft and the working deck continuing to the stern.

“The ‘powerful stern’ is now the norm in offshore racing. I’m not sure whether we started it, but for sure, we were the test bed for how to refine that hull shape concept for windward leeward performance.”

First to have a working deck all the way aft was the 2007 Reichel Pugh Patches , a style then taken a stage further by ETNZ (2009), which added slab-sided topsides with a knuckle to create more hull stability when heeled. ETNZ also saw refinements in deck layout, elements of which have filtered down to more mainstream designs, such as transverse jib car tracks.

4. B&Q Castorama

Built: 2004 Design: Nigel Irens

‘Mobi’, as she was affectionately known, was the 75ft trimaran designed by Nigel Irens specifically for Ellen MacArthur’s solo round the world record attempt in 2004.

B&Q Castorama was highly optimised, being longer, narrower, and with more freeboard than the ORMA 60s, reducing the risk of a pitchpole.

She was also, uniquely, custom built for a petite female skipper, with a full-scale mock up of the cockpit created at Offshore Challenges office. The trimaran took over a day off Francis Joyon’s record to finish in 71 days and 14 hours.

5. Ragtime, J/24. 1976, Rod Johnstone: It took 18 months for Rod Johnstone to build this 24-footer in his garage in Connecticut. It was simple to sail, and light enough to be trailable. Competing in the summer of ’76, Ragtime was so successful that many people asked Rod for a sister ship. He quit his job, and with brother Bob Johnstone set up J-Boats. Just two years later the J/24 had its own start at Key West. Over 5,500 have since sold worldwide.

5. J/24 Ragtime

Built: 1976 Design: Rod Johnstone

It took 18 months for Rod Johnstone to build this 24-footer in his garage in Connecticut. It was designed to be simple to sail, with few rig adjustments, and light enough to be trailable. Rod’s family helped sand and finish the boat, and she was called  Ragtime . Competing at their local race series in the summer of ’76, Ragtime was so successful that many people asked Rod for a sistership. He quit his job, and with brother Bob Johnstone set up J-Boats.

Their confidence proved well placed. Just two years later the J/24 class had its own one-design fleet at Key West in 1978, with 20 boats on the line. Now over 5,500 boats have been built and sold worldwide.

The J-boat line expanded to include one-designs like the J/70, as well as cruiser-racers such as the J/109. It has since has become synonymous with asymmetric sailing, doing much to popularise the use of asymmetric spinnakers on big boats.

Maps and video show site of Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore

By Paula Cohen , Kerry Breen

Updated on: March 27, 2024 / 6:14 PM EDT / CBS News

A major search and rescue operation has now transitioned to a recovery mission at the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore after it was struck by a cargo ship and collapsed early Tuesday , sending vehicles and people plunging into the water below. The U.S. Coast Guard said the ship had reported losing propulsion and control as it was leaving Baltimore harbor, before the collision occurred at around 1:30 a.m. ET.

Two survivors were pulled from the water soon after the collapse, officials said — one unhurt and one with serious injuries, who was treated at a hospital and later released, CBS Baltimore reported .

Six were missing and presumed dead. Officials said the bodies of two victims were recovered Wednesday.

Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said all six were construction workers who were filling potholes on the bridge at the time.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency, with city, state and federal teams converging at the scene.

Map of the Key Bridge in Baltimore

The Key Bridge crosses the Patapsco River, a key waterway that along with the Port of Baltimore serves as a hub for East Coast shipping. CBS News Baltimore reports that the four-lane, 1.6-mile span was used by some 31,000 people a day.

The Maryland Transportation Authority  said  all lanes were closed in both directions on I-695, which crosses the Key Bridge. The agency said traffic was being detoured to I-95 and I-895.

The portion of the bridge that collapsed was on a stretch connecting Hawkins Point, on the south side of the waterway, and Dundalk, on the north.

Officials said in a news conference that the ship had reported losing power and a mayday had been issued before the collision, which allowed officials to stop traffic onto the bridge. Officials did not clarify how many vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse.

Moore said he "can confirm that the crew notified authorities of a power issue," and he said that the decision to stop traffic onto the bridge "saved lives last night."

Earlier Tuesday morning, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott called the collapse "an unthinkable tragedy."

"We have to first and foremost pray for all of those who are impacted, those families, pray for our first responders and thank them," he said. "We have to be thinking about the families and people impacted. We have to try to find them safe."

What was the ship's route?

The Singapore-flagged Dali, operated by charter vessel company Synergy Group, was chartered by and carrying cargo for Maersk. It had left the Port of Baltimore, just north and west of the bridge, before turning to head south and east along the Patapsco River.

The ship had been in the port for two days, according to ship tracking website  VesselFinder , and was expected to spend nearly a month at sea before it reached Colombo, Sri Lanka.

CBS News analyzed the path of every cargo ship taking this route over the past month and found Dali had veered more than 100 yards off the usual route when it struck the bridge support.

Before-and-after photos of the Francis Scott Key Bridge

Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge opened to traffic on March 23, 1977, and was a crucial thoroughfare for the region, carrying some 11.3 million vehicles per year.

The photos below show how it looked following the collapse Tuesday morning, and how it looked intact just a few days earlier.

Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore

A witness who lives near the bridge  told CBS Baltimore  the collapse felt like an earthquake and sounded like "a big bash of thunder."

"The whole house vibrated, like my house was falling down," he said. "I've been in this neighborhood 57 years, I remembered when they built this bridge. Can't believe it's gone."

Another resident reflected on being on the bridge just yesterday. "To see the bridge gone knowing I was on that bridge not even 10 hours ago — it's devastating."

The Graham Norton Show star demanded a second dressing room… for their phone

Graham Norton talking to a guest on his eponymous show.

After nearly 20 years on air and hundreds of guests , a producer on The Graham Norton Show has revealed the craziest demand they ever received from a celebrity.

The comedy talk show first hit screens in 2007 and although originally only set to run for 13 episodes, it proved such a hit it kept being extended.

There from the very start has been Graham Stuart, who founded production company So Television with the comedian and talk show host in 1998.

Over the years their company has produced Norton’s chat shows, including So Graham Norton and V Graham Norton for Channel 4 and The Graham Norton Show for BBC One and BBC Two.

Many memorable moments have unfolded on the red couch , but there’s also been some interesting backstage anecdotes the audience haven’t had a chance to see.

Although working with famous faces could have seen those manning the production behind-the-scenes faced with crazy antics, Stuart said it was ‘kind of disappointing’ that he didn’t have many wild stories to draw on.

Graham Stuart.

However, one that he did recall was back when a ‘major star’ put in an incredibly strange request.

‘I can’t give names, but we once had a major artist insist on a second dressing room,’ he told Metro.co.uk.

‘Which, you know, that’s fair enough.

‘But…it was for their phone.’

Dolly Parton on The Graham Norton Show.

Stuart did say they also once also cleared another room solely for the purpose of storing Dolly Parton’s wig.

However, he said that if they ever received a demand that was too extreme, it was unlikely they’d bend over backwards to make it happen.

‘This is a really important show for the entertainment business. You’re not going to mess around,’ he said.

‘You can ask for insane things. But why would we, why would we give them?

Mark Wahlberg on The Graham Norton Show.

‘There’s no sorting colours of M and M’s, that sort of thing although [we do obviously] want to look after people and make them feel comfortable.’

One of the most jaw-dropping moments on the show over the years was in 2013 when Mark Wahlberg’s drunken antics saw him sitting on Norton’s lap and pinching his nipples, repeatedly cutting off fellow guest Sarah Silverman and challenging Michael Fassbender to a ‘big d*** contest’ and even appearing to fall asleep on the couch.

Reflecting on what happened after the cameras stopped rolling, Stuart revealed the actor became ‘more in touch with reality and planet Earth’.

Despite the craziness of what unfolded, Stuart said the actor knew that ‘whatever happened we would make sure what went out was good and fair and honest’ and ‘that’s exactly what went out’.

Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Hugh Bonneville on The Graham Norton Show.

He added: ‘We love Mark Wahlberg because he such a big star. He then came back again and again and again and again. And I say that is a tribute to him and to us definitely.’

Although Stuart said they would never want to push someone on air if they were too inebriated, a 2014 episode where Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Hugh Bonneville arrived on set after the premiere of their movie Monuments Men made for brilliant TV.

‘I don’t think it’s telling tales to say that they arrived with a case of champagne from the film premiere and that case had been used and they were in a good mood…’ he laughed.

‘That was classic television.’

Sterling K Brown, Dakota Johnson, Colman Domingo, Domhnall Gleeson and host Graham Norton.

But he added: ‘We’ve never been in a situation where we thought we can’t put that show out. We never let that happen.’

Fans of the TV series will also now be able to dive back into the archives and catch up on all of their favourite moments with the launch of The Graham Norton Show Channel on Samsung TV Plus, which will feature back-to-back episodes 24/7.

As Stuart explained, it was a ‘really interesting opportunity to play archive shows in their entirety’ but he also added the series would still be on BBC screens every Friday night too.

‘I think the great thing about Norton is that a lot of it is timeless and we are very proud that we make a show that actually means something to people.’

The Graham Norton Show Channel is now available on Samsung TV Plus. Episodes of the most recent series are also available on BBC iPlayer.
