Our History
The Royal Motor Yacht Club has a long, and royal, history. The original Motor Yacht Club was founded in 1905, and opened its premises at Point Piper in December 1910.
The Port Hacking Rowing and Motor Boat Club operated at Lilli Pilli from 1922. In 1932 the name was changed to the Port Hacking Power Boat Club.
Royal Motor Yacht Club of NSW Port Hacking Branch Established
In January 1934, Foundation Commodore Claude Daly and Vice Commodore Frank O’Brian approached the Royal Motor Yacht Club of NSW with a request for the establishment of a branch of the RMYC at Port Hacking. The minutes of the RMYC, Point Piper, dated 30 January 1934, duly recorded the unanimous agreement of the Parent Club Directors.
The official opening of the RMYC Port Hacking’s modest clubhouse on the current site took place on 8 December 1934.
WW11 Involvement
During World War II, the club’s premises were taken over by the Navy to house the Southern Command Headquarters of the Volunteer Coastal Patrol, under the command of Rear Admiral Gould. During this time a number of members’ boats saw service as coastal patrol vessels between Sydney and Wollongong.
Club Refurbishment
Extended and modernised in 1995, and again in 2018, the Club continues to expand to offer a wide-range of facilities to its members and community.
Official Opening of the Floating Marina
In April 2012, the club was proud to open a new floating concrete marina with 64 berths which can accommodate vessels up to 18 meters. Further improvement plans are in place which include the construction of 8 additional berths to meet local demand.
Kitchen & Dining Refurbishment
In 2022, the Club embarked on a refurbishment of its kitchen, dining and lounge areas to create a better experience for its members and community.
Coming soon to the RMYC Port Hacking is a permanent fuel wharf. Offering diesel 7 days a week with discounts applying for RMYC Port Hacking boating members. This will be the most accessible, most affordable, and guaranteed cleanest fuel on Port Hacking!

Burraneer: The boaties' paradise just minutes from the hustle and bustle
Marley Cutbush is happy to go to work.
As a boat broker with the Burraneer Bay Marina Yacht Sales team, he has the good fortune to be based on the waterfront overlooking Burraneer Bay.
“Every time I pull in, I look out over the bay, and every single time I look, it’s different,” he says.
“Whether there’s a southerly blowing, or it’s grey, or it’s a clear, mirror-glass night, it’s a different landscape. I can look across the bay and see all the lights on or see the storms roll in. It’s quite a unique view.”
Boatie’s paradise
Only a few minutes’ drive from the hustle and bustle of Cronulla, the bay is a magnet for boaties.
Cutbush spent 15 years boating around the world, including several years aboard superyachts and skippering private vessels around Asia but is now more than happy to be home on Burraneer Bay.
“It really is a stunning waterway in so many respects,” he says.
“The water’s so clear. Today there was a seal swimming around the marina; he visits around every month or so. I’ve seen turtles, I’ve seen dolphins, wobbegongs, rays and kingfish coming through.”

Cutbush’s family has a long association with the area: his great-grandfather owned a five-acre block on the Burraneer Point known as Loch Lomond, and Cutbush grew up messing about in boats.
Cutbush says boating is key to bringing the local community together.
From the cruisers to the Port Hacking 100 game fishing competition to the putt-putt regatta, which attracts up to 60 small timber vessels, there are events and activities for boaties of all descriptions.
One of Cutbush’s favourite spots is South West Arm, just a few nautical miles south of Burraneer Bay.
“It’s super protected and an extremely deep anchorage with some courtesy moorings,” he says.
“You’re fully surrounded by the Royal National Park, so you can’t see a single house, and it feels like you could be anywhere.”
Highland Property Group agent Mitchell Wynn says the boating lifestyle is definitely the main drawcard for Burraneer Bay residents.
Premium prices
The suburb of Burraneer is dominated by waterfront and water-view properties, and prices regularly tip over $6 million.
The record price for the suburb was secured a year ago when a contemporary Woolooware Road waterfront sold for $9.1 million.
There’s no high-rise development and only one road into the peninsula, keeping traffic to a minimum.
“Burraneer has great water facilities with the Royal Motor Yacht Club just down the road,” says Wynn.
“There are some boutique shops, a grocer and a bakery as well as two cafes. You’ve got the proximity back to Cronulla without being in the hustle and bustle.”
One to Watch
Beautifully landscaped grounds cascade down to the water’s edge at this deep waterfront gem, which comes with a pool, a gym and a private pontoon.
There are two living spaces, an eat-in kitchen and a study, plus balconies on both levels to take in the views.
Mitchell Wynn of Highland Property Group Sutherland Shire is selling the home with a guide of $6.8 million-$7 million.
