seeking information on the seawind 24 catamaran

I am interested in anyone who can give information on performance and construction quality of the seawind 24 catamaran. I am considering purchasing a used one. I nwould need to find a trailer since the boat does not come with one. Any information on the specs of the factory built trailer that originally came with the boat would be helpfull. Thanks George  

The Seawind catamarans as a group are fairly well constructed. I'd point out that they're still in business and while the SW24 is discontinued, they do make a fair number of other ones. The specifications for the SW24 can be seen HERE . I would highly recommend that you write the company, since they're still around, to get more information ont he boat as well as the trailer. They probably have some information, possibly the owner's manual and such, for the boat.  

The Seawind 24s are a single skin fiberglass hull. They were built on the light side and have not been made in about twenty years. Some of them that have been well used are a little soft. They also tend to show wear at the beam connections. Some 300 boats were built in FL so there are lots of them around. Look for cracks around the centerboard trunks.  

I have had 3 of these boats and one of them just came back into my keep as a broker. Hands down the best cat of that size. I rather be on a Seawind that a Stiletto when the wind and waves pick up. Especially if I'm single handed. no fear on the Seawind and nothing ever broke even when I was sailing is weather I shouldn't have been out in. The boat can take more than you can.  

Expandacraft, would you agree with Boatsmith? And can anyone compare a Seawind 24 with a Reynolds 21? Thanks to anyone who keeps this thread alive! Old threads that keep going on for years have answered a lot of my questions.  

If you can buy a Seawind 24 for 10K or less then you should jump all over it. It's a great boat and it will always be worth 10 K in years to come.

The Reynolds 21 was designed by Randy Reynolds and is overpowered for it's size. Randy Reynolds really does not have the technical knowledge to build a safe fast boat. The Seawind 24 has 200% positive flotation. Either hull can support the entire boat. Also the 16 ft beam means never flying a hull. I am on my second one just purchased and am excited about this coming spring. Seawind 24's were the most popular boat in Australia and their reputation launched a multi million dollar boat line/manufacturer.  

Dear SW24 owners. I am searching for a SW24 in SE QLD Australia to buy and ship (as in ship in a shipping container) to the Solomon Islands. I'm putting together a budget of costs for this proposed venture and searching for specs and dimensions of SW24. I don't have a boat near me (yet) that I can run a tape measure over so have trawled the Internet for drawings or specs etc. I have the broad info of assembled boat but wondering if anyone can tell me beam of individual hull and hull weight, plus mast length? Thanks very much.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Comfort Ratio

Captive daggerboards, which don’t protrude through the deck, reduce maintenance and keep a clean deck that could otherwise prove hazardous offshore. Keeping these large foils captive also prevents windage aloft which can cause a catamaran at anchor to swing and swerve about her mooring. SHALLOW DRAFT

Through the use of Kevlar reinforced hulls with retracting daggerboards and rudders, the Seawind 1600 Passagemaker is safe on a sandy shoal. The minimum draft (with daggerboards and rudders up) is only 54cm – or 2ft 1 inches. That means the Seawind 1600 Passagemaker can enter protected anchorages and waterways inaccessible to almost any other cruiser on the market today.

Designed for extended ocean crossings, the Seawind 1600 Passagemaker has all of the cruising practicality you would expect from a new Seawind catamaran, but delivered on long and fast performance hulls.

High aspect deep retracting rudders and daggerboards offer performance and practicality - this catamaran sailboat tacks easily and is a nimble performer, but has a minimum draft of only 54cm with the foils raised.

DUAL ENGINE CONTROLS

A second electronic engine control mounted at the stbd helm makes for easy maneuvering and makes the boat manageable from either helm.

SIDE CLEARS

These removable role up clears are an essential item for any blue water sailor. Attaching to the outboard side of both the port and stbd helms they allow skippers to remain warm and dry at the helm in even the worst of conditions whilst still allowing for easy access and use of the sail controls.

BATTERY LITHIUM UPGRADE (720AH)

Change from the traditional AGM battery system to a high capacity Lithium system from Mastervolt. This option not only upgrades the batteries but also modifies the entire charging system ensuring a total compatible system including upgraded mastervolt alternators and regulators, additional AGM start battery and DC/DC charging unit.

STORM JIB WITH FURLER

The storm jib is designed for use in winds too strong for the regular jib, typically in conditions 40kts and up. It provides just enough sail area to maintain directional stability.

Carbon park avenue boom.

Very simply, the wings of the carbon fiber boom extend outwards to catch the mainsail as it is lowered. Lazy jacks ensure that the mainsail is captured within the confines of the recessed area of the boom deck and hides the bulk of the sail when moored. The sail cover is fit to the inboard groove of the track system installed on the inside perimeter of the boom top.

SATELITE PHONE/DATA WIFI ROUTER IRIDIUM GO

The Iridium GO! is a satellite wifi router/phone. Once installed in the boat the boat will have a wifi hotspot the same as any office/home and all devices (phones, computers, chartplotters, c-zone etc) can then easily be connected to the internet.
