Solaris Yachts continues to evolve and reinvent itself: we are excited to introduce our new Solaris 50’.

Following the success of the Solaris 48’ and 50’ over the years, we started designing new waterlines. This project led to the creation of a new Solaris 50’ with an LOA of 15,50m and beam of 4,78m.

The result of the innovative waterlines is the extension of the aft sections. This solution allows the use of the twin rudder blades. Also, we succeeded in designing a tender garage with longitudinal access, a unique solution on yachts of this size. This improvement simplifies the use of the dinghy, that is secured in its own watertight garage.

On deck, a broad cockpit, already tested on the Solaris 40’ and Solaris 60’, guarantees freedom of movement.

The wider cockpit of the new Solaris 50’ can accommodate one or two cockpit tables.

Among the exceptional advantages of this boat, it’s worth noting the full width steering wheels that improve visibility, even while using the sprayhood. Thanks to the steps forward the steering area, the water slips away from the side decks, creating a safe environment and allowing very comfortable navigation. The original steps also simplify movement on the deck.

Special attention has also been given to the interior details, in particular to the finishing of the saloon and the owners cabin: the collaboration with Poltrona FRAU, the prestigious leather manufacturers since 1912, enable you to customise the interior of your Solaris according on your needs and personal taste.

Revolutionary when she first launched in 2015, the Solaris 50 was the start of a new era for Solaris Yachts and a first step into a revolutionary new design which can now been seen throughout their whole fleet of models. As with her modern sisters, she was carefully thought through under the watchful eye of Javier Soto Acebal – bringing together his South American flare and classic Italian style. She of course retains that true Solaris DNA with excellent sea keeping qualities, performance and ease of handling.

With over 60 Solaris 50s sold since her introduction, it was a tall request for Javier Soto Acebal to improve on this popular size with additional refinements. He has delivered however with the ‘new’ Solaris 50, launched April 2022. Even more sparkling performance that is easily manageable, with increased stability, and a clean uncluttered striking style. The integral transom tender garage and improved layout down below takes this new 50 to an unbelievable next level of design.

Below decks, once again they show fantastic innovation with a variety of layout options allowing a production yacht to be customised to suit your needs. In addition, a choice of interior finishes to meet your style whether that be a modern light oak or more traditional teak.

On deck, everything is kept simple with four winches in the cockpit positioned ergonomically just forward of the twin helms. As with all the fleet, she has a self-tacking jib and optional fixed bowsprit to make easy use of a gennaker or code 0. At the transom is a wide hydraulically operated door allowing for easy dinghy deployment and ample swim platform.

A thrill to sail on, she glides along with ease in light airs. Winner of the ‘Performance Cruiser of the Year’ at the European Yachting Awards in 2015, in her old iteration – her success has continued since her first launch.

The all new Solaris 50 was on display at Cannes Yachting Festival and proves to be an incredibly stylish performance Med cruiser

We got the chance to see both the Solaris 40 and the Solaris 50 at Cannes – keep an eye on the Yachting Monthly Youtube channel for a tour of the 40 coming soon.

Stepping onboard the Solaris 40 does not feel like stepping onto a 40ft yacht, with such intense focus on keeping the decks uncluttered, a decent amount of beam and providing luxury and space below. Frankly it feels huge.

Stepping onboard the 50 is something else altogether. This new version of the Solaris 50 – the previous version was pretty universally loved by all who sailed her – continues the long relationship between Argentine designer Soto Acebel and Solaris Yachts.

It is hardly surprising, then, that the Solaris 50 features a lot of the same design traits as both the Solaris 40 and Solaris 60.

There’s no doubt that this is something of a med sailing specialist and sitting at the fold down helming seat the view towards the bow is open and uncluttered, perfect for a day out in moderate breeze without a significant seaway. Of course this is a 50 footer so ocean crossings are more than possible and there’s nothing here to stop that, but probably not the target market.

There’s a clever step up to the side decks that also features on the 40, which helps to keep plenty of space around the helm pedestals, allowing for a full width traveller, which is recessed below the deck to prevent a trip hazard or just a painful stubbed toe.

While attention to detail on the deck is impressive, it is down below that the Solaris 50 announces itself as a luxury cruiser. In particular the owner’s cabin is huge with a similarly impressive owner’s heads.

The original Solaris 50 was a pioneering yacht – introduced to the market in 2015 by Solaris Yachts. The Solaris 50 was developed using the best of the Solaris 48, but with some evolutionary new design ideas and using modern technology. For Solaris, the 50 represented a huge leap forward for the brand, whilst retaining the DNA of Solaris in terms of quality, sea keeping and performance.

April 2022 saw the launch of the ‘new’ Solaris 50. Designer Javier Soto Acebal was on hand, via Zoom from Argentina, to brief on the advancements and innovations of the benchmark vessel. Given its reception, this fresh take Solaris 50 is set to be a class leader in the 15m segment. A stiff and powerful yacht delivering both surefooted performance and an unrivalled level of opulence below decks.

Notable Advancements and Innovations:

• The self-contained fore and aft dinghy garage that makes launching and retrieval of the 2.5m rib a breeze.
• Twin steering wheels are positioned fully outboard offering the helmsman a very clear view of the jib, code luffs and oncoming waves.
• The side decks end forward of the steering wheels and a half step makes movement from the cockpit to the side decks much easier and has the added advantage of water not reaching the helmsman.
• The expansive cockpit enables the option of twin cockpit tables.
• Twin rudder blades improve directional stability, reduce weather helm and enable the yacht to carry more sail area in higher wind speeds resulting in safer and faster sailing.
• 18% more stable by virtue of the hull form stability, in particular fuller forward sections.
• 4% increased wetted surface, although the same wetted surface when the windward rudder blade flies clear of the water.

This Solaris 50 has delivered a yacht that is easier and more forgiving to sail, but still maintains the crisp and connected feel at the helm. Solaris yachts are undoubtedly good-looking vessels and this theme is very much continued below decks – with the option of additional interior customizations by design house Poltrona Frau. This gives owners the opportunity to create an individual and top-end interior, which in summary can include –

• The progression of the hull design has also paid dividends below deck – creating an interior that would challenge larger yachts.
• Three double cabins with the option of twin cabin port aft.
• A generous well-appointed galley with large refrigeration and a choice of options, wine cooler’s icemakers… All of those necessities for comfort aboard.
• The Solaris 50 also has the option for fitted a crew berth in the bow.
• A choice of interior finishes – light oak, teak, washed and antiqued oak.
• On deck given vast expanse of flush teak, there are numerous opportunities to add a sun pad here and there.

The craftsmanship, attention to detail and quality throughout is as you would expect from Solaris Yachts.

Contemporary-looking Solaris 50 designed for short-handed global cruising

Just as cool, but half the price of her sister, the Solaris 58

A cool-looking 50-footer

This new 50-footer follows the fiendishly cool Solaris 58, which launched in early 2014 – including the pièce-de-resistance dreadnought bow and subtle aft chines. But, at nearly half the price of her larger sister, the Solaris 50 should prove a popular choice.

As the latest Acebal-designed range of Solaris yachts become increasingly sleeker, one thing hasn’t changed: their build quality remains top-drawer.

Javier Soto Acebal has drawn a hull that promises strong performance with a soft motion. It will have an integrated bowsprit for flying Code 0s and gennakers, and a self-tacking jib as standard for easy short-handed sailing.

Stowage has been well-considered throughout. The large sail locker can be converted to a crew cabin and a longitudinal garage will facilitate the launch and recovery of a tender. There is dedicated liferaft stowage and a wet-hanging locker inside, with drip tray and drainage.

Solaris is also finishing a custom-built 55. Although this is still a contemporary design, it will be much more a bluewater-orientated yacht with a sleek deck saloon, designed for short-handed global cruising.

Three Solaris 50s have already sold off plan, pre-launch and the 40-year-old yard in Aquileia already has five of the new 58s under construction.
