The past meets the future aboard Schooner America 2.0 . She is modeled after one of the most famous maritime icons of all time!  Schooner America which was the winner of the first “America’s Cup” of 1851. The “2.0” aspect of our vessel refers to the eco-friendly nature.  Both her cutting-edge construction materials and her propulsion system created by the designers at Scarano Boat Building, of Albany, New York make this yacht unique. 

Rather than finding a diesel-consuming engine room below decks, you find a large battery bank providing electric propulsion with smaller diesel assist-generators. If you peeled away her hull, rather than finding heavy fiberglass or steel, you will find an extremely durable 3-layered composite: a sandwich of cedar over balsa core, laminated with an epoxy resin. Split on a horizontal plane, this light 3-layer composite makes up the upper 70% of the hull while the lower 30% is constructed of marine-grade aluminum.

Furthermore, rather than a heavy wooden rig aloft, you find carbon-fiber masts, booms and gaffs. Together, these strengthening and lightening components of construction, coupled with her modernized power-sourcing, America 2.0 is provided with the ability to move through the water more effortlessly, efficiently and with minimal environmental impact.

Standout superyachts spotted in the Caribbean

BOAT keeps an eye on the standout luxury superyachts spotted in cruising in Caribbean waters...

The 66 metre Lürssen-built superyacht Elysian has been spotted in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua. First delivered in 2014, Elysian has been island hopping in the Grenadines since March after spending several weeks visiting the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Designed by legendary superyacht designer Espen Øino , with an interior by Reymond Langton , Elysian can accommodate a total of 12 guests and 17 crew on board. 

Heesen superyacht Odyssea has been spotted in the Bahamas. The 46.7 metre superyacht, first delivered in 2012 to a design by Omega Architects , has spent February 2021 cruising between the Bahamian capital of Nassau and Black Point, stopping by Shroud Cay in between the two destinations. Able to accommodate 12 guests and 10 crew, she boasts a cruising range of 4,000 nautical miles. She is currently available to charter with Ocean Independence from $200,000 a week.

Recently refitted sailing yacht M5 was spotted cruising in the warm waters of the Bahamas in March 2021. The 78 metre superyacht, first delivered in 2004 by Vosper Thornycroft , left Florida’s Key West in late February and sailed past Fort Lauderdale, Bullock Harbour and Nassau before heading south towards Black Point. 

Designed by Ron Holland , M5 can host 14 guests and 12 crew members. Previously known as Mirabella V , she is considered the world’s largest sailing sloop .

The 80 metre hybrid Nobiskrug superyacht Artefact has been spotted anchored in Pitons Bay, St Lucia. Delivered in 2020, Artefact was designed by Gregory C Marshall and, with a 2,990GT, is the biggest-volume 80 metre superyacht in the world.

Drumbeat, 10 and King Baby

Three superyachts were spotted moored up shoulder to shoulder in St Lucia's Marigot Bay. The IAG Yachts  42.67 metre  King Baby , the  Alloy Yachts  53 metre sailing yacht  Drumbeat and the  Delta Marine  46.24 metre  10 were photographed together.

Drumbeat had just arrived from Mustique, having been spotted in Rodney Bay and Grenada, while King Baby had previously visited Guadeloupe and the US Virgin Islands.  10 had cruised over from St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The stunning 83.5 metre Feadship Savannah had been cruising in the Caribbean, where she departed from St. Maarten (pictured bottom left) on and then anchored off Gustavia in St Barths (right).

Delivered in 2015 and winner of last year's World Superyacht Awards , she features an interior by CG Design and boasts a semi-submerged observation lounge. Additionally, she has a nine metre swimming pool on deck as well as a vast Jacuzzi.

Mayan Queen IV

Mayan Queen IV  left St Vincent and the Grenadines and was photographed cruising off Tobago Cays. She had been in the Caribbean since late 2016 when she moored at St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Delivered by Blohm + Voss in 2008, 93.25 metre Mayan Queen IV is not available for charter. She can sleep up to 16 guests and boasts interiors designed by Terence Disdale .

Gene Machine

Gene Machine had been cruising in the Caribbean for the majority of the winter season when she was spotted in the Bahamas, St. Maarten, St Thomas and Guadeloupe.

The55 metre Amels superyacht was photographed frolicking with a pod of humpback whales in the Dominican Republic, having left the Ocean World Adventure Park.  Gene Machine was delivered in 2013.

One of the most divisive superyachts ,  Adastra , was  spotted in Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, having arrived from St Maarten on February 21.

The 42.5 metre trimaran superyacht was built in China and delivered by McConaghy Boats in 2012 and has a range of 10,000 nautical miles. She was designed in Great Britain for the purpose of cruising in Indonesia and other remote destinations.

Explorer yacht Narvalo  was spotted in St Maartens' Cole Bay.

Narvalo was built by Cantiere delle Marche  and features interior and exterior design by Nauta Design . She is listed as a finalist for the 2017 ShowBoats Design Awards . At 33.4 metres, she can sleep up to 12 guests in five cabins, which are decked out with light woods, stonework and plenty of natural light thanks to the large windows.

Her sundeck is the perfect spot for watching the world go by as it has a large bar, Jacuzzi and an al fresco cocktail area.

Stock Island developer, Matthew Strunk, has inaugurated a new superyacht marina in Key West, Florida – Stock Island Marina Village. The new moorage facility constructed by worldwide marina builder, Bellingham Marine , was designed by Strunk and his team to appeal to a wide spectrum of boaters from Superyacht owners to shrimp boat captains.

Located in Safe Harbor, Stock Island Marina Village is accessed from the Atlantic through an entrance channel dredged to a depth of 25 ft. to 35 ft. The marina basin is divided by two massive land piers and separated by 300 ft. of water.

Bellingham Marine completed the first phase of construction in November. 128 slips were installed in the marina’s north basin for boats ranging from 40 feet to 70 feet. Two new side-tie docks were also put in to provide Superyacht moorage for vessels up to 250 ft. The second basin houses the marina’s older live-aboard moorage with 80 slips.

Strunk’s vision for the property is to transform the once industrial site into a world class marina that attracts visitors from around the world and reflects an appreciation for the history of the area and the eclectic lifestyle Key West is famous for.

Stock Island Marina Village offers a wide range of amenities on the docks, including in-slip pump outs for all slips and 480A, 3-phase electrical service for power-hungry super yachts. High-speed fueling is available on the 430-foot fuel dock, the largest in South Florida.  Upland amenities include a ship’s store with a captain’s lounge above and an outdoor bar and grill, dog parks, and an organic community garden for live-aboards who want to grow fresh fruits and vegetables.

Just beyond the noise and crowds of Duval Street in Key West, Stock Island Marina Village will be a heaven for many boat owners and captains.

Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

It belongs to the Prince of Qatar who often comes to KW. It's a beautiful yacht and a much more welcome site than that overly large Carnival ship that was in as well.

What is so interesting to me is that my son, who works in the Mediterranean, sent me a picture of this very yacht back in September when it was docked in Majorca, Spain! That is certainly some yacht!

Cabins & Under Water Viewing Windows

Great Room or Galley is large and spacious. Helm, Deck, and Trampoline

There is room for two with the captain at the helm. Additional seating for up to three adults on the starboard side of the cockpit area as well.  Boasting 48’ of deck space, 26’ wide to lay out, lounge or play.  This makes a perfect place to get close to the waves while sailing. Trampolines are nice for sun bathing, or just fun for jumping.

Two additional seats sit the most forward part of the catamaran.  One on each side at the tip of the bow.  These seats are incredible to get close to dolphins, turtles, and ocean waves.  Great for viewing beautiful coral reefs and fish right underneath you.

Cockpit area is large and spacious with seating up to 12 with an outdoor dining table area.  Most of this area is covered by another part of the boat giving plenty of shade and sun protection.  BBQ grille in the stern of the cockpit makes this yacht a Key West yacht chartering delight.  Listen to your favorite music or socialize with your guests, there is plenty of room for everyone on this boat.

Aurora, a Leopard 44 catamaran was “Boat of the Year” when introduced in 2011. Everyone was raving about the sailing speed on the water, easy handling and the revolutionary forward cockpit.   Featuring two cockpits.  One forward and one aft with outside dining area protected by a hard-top bimini. On top of the bimini are, mounted solar panels throughout, making her self-sufficient. The forward dining area is perfect for up to six adults.  The aft dining area is massive with seating up to 12.

Cabins and Layout

Galley-up has ample storage and a huge drawer type fridge and freezer. Argo Navis 

Largest yacht and catamaran in our fleet.  Argo Navis (AN) boasts a length of 75’ and a beam of 36’.  AN is a 75’ luxury catamaran launched in 2016.  Charters on this large catamaran yacht are all inclusive with the exception of certain luxury items. The vessel carries a complete crew compliment to include: Captain, Chef, Stew/Mate. With a beam of 36 feet it would be hard to find a more comfortable ride under way.

Consistent cruising speed of 10 to 12 knots makes the most demanding cruising itinerary possible. The bridge deck is high off the water which minimizes the wave slapping that occurs on many catamarans.

Draft & Sailing Speed

Drawing 3.5, feet, makes it possible for her to go into the shallowest anchorages in Key West.  With the dagger boards dropped, the vessel draws 8 feet and becomes a very able sailing vessel.

Salon and Cabins

To say the saloon is vast would be an understatement. There are two dining areas to provide seating to twelve people very comfortably. Meals are provided by the fully stocked galley. Ahead of the galley is the entertainment center and Navigation Station. Below the main deck are three King Sized State Rooms all with their own ensuite head and showers. All cabins are climate controlled.

Carrying a 15 ft zodiac aboard as a tender for bringing guests ashore, snorkel trips, fishing and, exploring. With a 40hp Yamaha outboard the tender can be used for wake boarding or skiing.

If you prefer a slower pace Argo Navis carries six inflatable stand up paddle boards. Perfect for meandering through mangrove islets. Elevated stance on the board, gets a great view of the fish life below you.

The Dry Tortugas

Dry Tortugas National Park (DT) is our most popular, private, boat charter destination.  70 miles (113 km) west of Key West lies the remote Dry Tortugas National Park . The 100-square mile park is mostly open water with seven small islands.  Accessible only by boat or seaplane, the park is known the world over as the home of magnificent Fort Jefferson (FJ).  Picturesque blue waters, superlative coral reefs and marine life, and the vast assortment of bird life that frequent the area.

Fort Jefferson

Fort Jefferson, the largest all-masonry fort in the US, built between 1846 and 1875 to protect the nation’s gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. Supply and subsidence problems and the Civil War delayed construction. The fort was never completed. Fears that additional bricks and cannon would cause further settling and place more stress on the structure and the cistern system. Distinguishing features include decorative brickwork and 2,000 arches. Time, weather, and water continue to take their toll, necessitating ongoing stabilization and restoration projects.

Dry Tortugas Yacht Charter Key West, FL

DT is typically a minimum of a six night private Key West boat charter, round trip.  Can be done in as little as three nights one way, taking the Yankee Freedom back to Key West.  Charterer or customer would be responsible for paying the captain to return the boat back to its port in Key West. Making a beautiful sail to and from Key West, DT is an unforgettable sailing charter.

Boat charter will stop half way at the Marquises which is about a 5 hour sail from Key West. Marquises, called quick sands, are deserted islands formed naturally from many years of hurricanes and other natural phenomenon.  These islands are loaded with birds and other unique wildlife.  When on a Key West boat rental with BOYC, the charterer will be able to use the dinghy to get to the islands from the sailboat. These islands boast many acres of white sandy beaches.

Tranquility

Tranquility of this Key West yacht rental starts with no airplanes, traffic noises, or best of all, no cell phone or Wi-Fi reception. Garden Key at the Dry Tortugas is about another 5 hours which should get you there in the afternoon sometime.  This will allow you to take the dinghy into the fort and look around and get registered with a park ranger.

The next day we recommend you join a tour lead by the national park service of Fort Jefferson.  These tours are very educational and should not be missed.  In the afternoon our guests like to take the yacht out to one of the famous reefs or wrecks for a snorkel or dive.  In the evening, sunsets are remarkable from the boat or on top of the tall wall surrounding Fort Jefferson.

On your way home, you will stop overnight one more time at the Marquises before arriving at the marina your last night.  It’s time to make your next Key West yacht rental to the Dry Tortugas with BOYC.

Florida Keys Yacht Charter

Day 1: stock island to little palm island 24 nm.

Leave our charter base and try Little Palm Island. Reservations for dockage and dinner are highly recommend at this private resort. Ashore, watch for the miniature key deer and tropical birds.

Day 2: Looe Key and Marathon 25 NM

Looe is 5 miles south of Little Palm Island. It is one of the most colorful and alive of all the reefs in the Keys. Your destination tonight will be Boot Key Harbor. You’ll have a choice of marinas and anchorages.

Day 3: Long Key Bight 23 NM

Take your time, relax and have a slow start to your day. You might want to take a side trip out to Sombrero Key for snorkeling. If not and after leaving Boot Key Harbor follow Hawk Channel in a northeasterly direction and set a course to Long Key Bight.

Day 4: Indian Key 8 NM

The plan for this day is to take a short sail and then do some exploring on Indian Key, which was the Dade County seat from 1836 to 1840. About 1 mile south of the Indian Key, you’ll find mooring buoys marking the remains of the Spanish sailing galleon “San Pedro” in about 18′ of water.

Day 5: Duck Key 20 NM

Want to spend some time enjoying luxury in the Florida Keys? Set Sail for the first class Hawk’s Cay Resort in Duck Key. Do not go in at low tide!

Day 6: Bahia Honda Key 23 NM

As you depart Duck Key today you will back track with your destination being the anchorage at Bahia Honda Key. Bahia Honda is a state park and you can dinghy ashore where you’ll find a gift shop, an old broken railway bridge and a small swimming beach on the bay side.

Day 7: Key West 30 NM

It’s time to start heading back for Key West Today. If you make an early start today you might want to make another snorkeling visit to Looe Key.

Key Largo, Florida

A Key West yacht charter to Key Largo is a little bit more of an aggressive charter to do in a week.  This would mean less stops and more sailing, however will be well worth the charter.    A yacht charterer could take a few of the stops listed previous along the way with the final destination, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park .  Once there snorkel the famous John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the first underwater state park encompassing 70 nautical miles.

Snorkeling Christ of the Abyss is probably the most famous underwater attraction in Key Largo, Florida. It is also known as Christ of the Deep. There is a bronze statue of Christ mounted on a cement base in one of the grooves of a patch reef.  To see the statue you are actually snorkeling the area called Dry Rocks. Make Key Largo your next Key West yacht charter with Blue Ocean Yacht Charters.

Further north easterly, beyond Key Largo, Florida, is Miami, Florida.  Best done, one way in one week.  You could fly into Miami and have a captain bring the boat to you, and take a week charter back to Key West or depart from Key West making Miami your final destination. The boat owner relinquishes control of the vessel for any given period of time.  The customer must hire and pay its own captain and crew to run the ship because of maritime law.  Charterer pays the boat owner or charter management company for use of the boat.  Customer must pay for its own fuel, provisions, insurance, or any other amenities preferred during the charter.

The danger charters fleet.

Danger Charters has four beautiful, custom-built and meticulously maintained schooners: Danger, Sarah, Danger’s Prize, and the newest member of our fleet, Danger’s Pearl . Each has a distinct personality, and all are shallow-draft vessels – making Danger Charters able to go where others can’t (and we love to go where others don’t).

Danger is the most traditional of the schooners in the Danger Charters fleet. Custom-built just for us, she is a stunning replica of a 19th Century Skipjack: boats built to dredge the oyster beds of Chesapeake Bay.

The Skipjack was introduced to the Keys in the early 1900s to work in the sponging and cargo hauling industries and to serve as wrecking schooners – boats that salvaged the many (very profitable) run-aground wrecks. Though used for a very different purpose today, the Skipjack is excellent at navigating the shallow waters that surround the Keys.

Danger’s Prize

Danger’s Prize is an arc-bottomed schooner built by internationally-respected wooden boat builder, Captain Reuel Parker . Originally from Colorado, Parker spent much of his childhood in Long Island – where his life revolved around boats. By age 12, he was building and restoring full-sized boats!

Exuma is an area in the Bahamas much like the Florida Keys, although Bahamaians refer to their little islands as cays . As is true of our slice of paradise, the Exuma district is known for its very shallow waters – hence why Parker named his original design after the area.

Sarah is an Exuma 52 that joined the Danger Charters family after we fell head-over-keel with Danger’s Prize, her sister ship. Spacious, swift on the water, and smooth in the wind, Sarah is a big boat that sails seamlessly in shallow water.

Interestingly, Sarah was Parker’s first-ever commissioned sailboat design and his first design and build in cold-molded wood. She was built to spec in Fort Pierce for an adventurous family to live aboard as they cruised around the Keys, Gulf, and Caribbean. Years later, Sarah was restored to her original glory and joined the Danger Charters family.

Danger’s Pearl

Danger’s Pearl is the biggest vessel in our fleet, and also our newest member. As a mini tall ship with romantic-red sails, Danger’s Pearl is an absolute beauty.

Before joining the Danger Charters fleet, she spent 20 years as a live-aboard SCUBA boat … which is why her on-deck amenities are perfect for day charters. Danger’s Pearl is super spacious, making it easy for guests to spread out. She’s especially great for families with young children who are used to working their wiggles out on land.

What’s In A Name?

Like card players, actors, and baseball players, sailors are superstitious. Sailing lore warns against changing the name of a boat, which is how Danger Charters got its name! Some assume that we offer an adrenaline-soaked sailing experience, but the opposite is true – we always seek calm water.

Tradition says that renaming a boat demands a de-naming ceremony. This requires writing the name of the vessel on a piece of paper, folding and putting it into a wooden box, burning the lot of it, and then throwing the ashes into the sea!

The Moorings Announces New Key West Charter Destination

The Moorings, the word's premier yacht charter company, has announced a new charter location in Key West, FL. The new location is in partnership with Florida Yachts Charters and will offer a variety of charter options including bareboat, skippered yacht charters, sailing catamarans and monohulls, and powered catamarans. Charters are already open and available for the 2021 season.

As many boaters know, Key West is one of the biggest boating destinations in North America. With its tropical weather and expansive waterways, there are nearly limitless places to explore. The new Key West locations are accessible by car, plane, or ferry, so clients will have a variety of exciting ways to not only reach their departure point, but also to experience the Keys on their own once underway. The Moorings operations will be based out of Ocean's Edge Marina & Resort as well as Stock Island Marina Village .

Guests will be able to experience several Key West highlights in their travels, both on shore and on the water. On shore, guests can experience the nightlife of Key West's Mallory Square and Duval Street , as well as laid back atmospheres at Marathon and Islamorada . One of the most popular boat destinations will be Dry Tortugas National Park to the west.

• Stay away from marine wildlife, especially manatees.
