Most Sardinia yacht charters begin in the popular superyacht marina of Porto Cervo in the north west of the island or nearby Porto Rotondo, a slightly quieter marina compared to its illustrious neighbor. After a short stay here, popular charter itineraries tend to make a beeline north to the beautiful Maddalena Islands where the yacht can spend a day or two in a pretty sheltered anchorage while you and your guests take to the Carribean-blue waters for a spot of diving and snorkeling.
From here, the world’s your oyster. Sardinia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. From the lush archipelagos of the north to the wild, untamed beaches found in the south west of the island, and from the glamorous superyacht havens on the north east coast where you can indulge your every whim to the rich historical treasures found in the south, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Another popular option is to set off from the Amalfi Coast on Italy’s mainland or Corsica in the north and then cruise down through the Bonifacio Strait. It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Sardinia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .
Sample itineraries
Most yacht charters tend to finish in Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo. As well as the vibrant superyacht lifestyle, these places also offer their own bevy of beautiful beaches and scenic beauty, making these the perfect spots to end your memorable Sardina luxury yacht charter. Alternatively, for longer charters you can finish up in one of the neighboring destinations mentioned above. Speak with your yacht charter broker who can advise you further.

- Porto di Alghero - located in the beautiful province of Sassari, this destination is renowned for its beautiful emerald waters and secluded beaches making it a prime stop-off for those looking for an idyllic retreat away from the main hubs. This marina can accommodate 380 yachts with slips available for vessels up to 50 meters LOA.
- Cala Luna - A beautiful curve of sand with magical caves and astonishing clear blue waters abound in this paradisiacal setting. It does get busy in the peak summer months, but after 7pm all the crowds depart, leaving a stunning anchorage to park the yacht and watch the setting sun, cocktail in hand.
- Passagio della Pelosa - Often likened to a lagoon, this beautiful sheltered cove is considered by some as one of the best anchorages in the Mediterranean, where charterers will be dazzled by the Caribbean-blue waters reflecting the sandy seabed below. This anchorage is an ideal jumping off point to the protected marine reserve of Stintino, with convenient restaurants and shops located nearby in the village and marina.
- Porto Liscia - A pretty peninsula of golden sand beach with cobalt-blue waters and scenic views. The anchorage is well protected and is a popular hangout for superyachts, which means it can get busy.
- Spiaggia di Campulongu - Situated on Sardinia’s south coast, a short hop from Cagliari, this anchorage offers a beautiful calm bay with lots of space and clear waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling from the back of the yacht. There is a convenient marina close by with all the usual amenities, as well as a short walk into town.
With its A-lister appeal, rich cultural history and bevy of world-class beaches, Sardinia is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates. If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.
Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

Sardinia Yacht Charter Q&A
Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;
- Marinas tend to get quite busy during peak summer months, so you need to consider that when deciding on what night's you wish to spend in a slip. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
- Mistrals are quite common during the shoulder months of May and October, so check with your charter broker about the best anchorages and itineraries if you intend on traveling during these months.
- You should also be aware that certain zones in Sardinia's waters are restricted to protect the sea grass, which may impact on where you anchor the yacht. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.
Due to its popularity during the Mediterranean Season, there should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.
Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Sardinia .
Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.
The optimum time for yacht charters in Sardinia is between June and September, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, clear blue seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.
You should note that Sardinia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.
Most Sardinia yacht charters begin in the glamorous superyacht marina of Porto Cervo in the north west of the island, with popular charter itineraries including the breathtaking Maddalena archipelago, the pretty sheltered anchorages and charming villages found along Sardinia's east coast and the island's capital Cagliari, awash with historical treasures and rich cultural heritage.
The island is also renowned for its protected marine reserves and beautiful clear waters where snorkeling and diving are the favorite activities for yacht charters. where the yacht can spend a day or two in a pretty sheltered anchorage while you and your guests take to the Carribean-blue waters for a spot of diving and snorkeling.
Another option is to begin your yacht charter on Italy's west coast only a short hop across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Alternatively, charters can begin on the spellbindingly rugged island of Croatia in the north, separated only by a narrow strait famed for its sailing.
Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.
For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide: Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Sardinia is hot and dry from May to October with the island enjoying an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. Peak charter months are July and August, though June is also an excellent time to charter. August is particularly busy as most Italians take their holidays during this month.
Most rain falls between October and February, giving much of Sardinia a lush and verdant character. Visitors may well experience balmy summer days in March and April, though evenings will be cool during this time of year. The prevailing wind is north westerly, which can be particularly significant on the Strait of Bonifacio at the north of the island.
Sardinia superyacht charter itineraries
Historic Cagliari crowns Sardinia’s southern edge, and a litter of pretty coves and tiny villages then await. With vineyards inland and towns steeped in history, it is a region rich in cultural and gastronomic offerings. Yachts up to 55 metres LOA can drop anchor at Marina di Cagliari.
To the north, the superyacht haven of Porto Cervo is the central hub for the yachting elite that descend on Sardinia’s glittering Costa Smeralda each summer. Home to some of Europe’s most expensive residences and exclusive resorts, including the iconic Cala di Volpe hotel, Porto Cervo pulsates during the summer season and its bars and restaurants promise a great night ashore.
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is based in Porto Cervo and organises a packed yacht racing season throughout the summer. Highlights of the Mediterranean cruising calendar in Sardinia include the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, the Maxi Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup – all lively events for sailing enthusiasts in Porto Cervo to get involved with. Yachts up to 120 metres can berth at the IGY marina in Port Cervo.
South of Porto Cervo, the resort village of Porto Rotondo’s turquoise waters, pristine beaches and charming piazzas will prove irresistible, and the port here has 25 berths for megayachts. Cruise 20 nautical miles and dock at Marina di Olbia (for yachts up to 80 metres) to discover the city’s café-lined squares. Further south explore the caves near Cala Luna, where the peaks of Gennargentu National Park provide a dramatic backdrop and the snorkelling is excellent. Nearby Cala Goloritzé is another natural wonder.
From the northern coast of the main island cruise about 10 nautical miles offshore toward the spectacular archipelago of La Maddalena. While away long, languid sunny days around Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Budelli and Razzoli, and discover some of Sardinia’s best beaches and the island’s breathtaking lagoons. On Isola Maddalena, Cala Gavetta marina can host yachts up to 60 metres LOA, as can the marina of the Hotel Excelsior. On Capera, Porto Palma can accommodate yachts up to 40 metres.
Some luxury yacht charters will combine the magic of Sardinia with French-held Corsica – the islands lie in a north to south run, with Corsica sitting off Sardinia’s northerly tip.
On Corsica , visit the historic capital of Porto-Vecchio, discover the UNESCO wonders of the Lavezzi islands and marvel at the houses perched atop the windswept bluffs in Bonifacio before cruising south to the majestic La Maddelena archipelago.

Motor yacht charter vs sailing yacht charters in Sardinia
Choosing between a crewed motor yacht and a sailing yacht for your Sardinia adventure depends on your preferences, budget, and the experience you’re seeking.
Motor yachts offer several advantages that appeal to many travellers. They provide greater speed and agility, allowing you to cover more distance along Sardinia’s coastline in less time. With their luxurious amenities, spacious interiors, and onboard chefs, motor yachts offer unparalleled comfort and indulgence. Their stability in choppy waters and ease of handling make them suitable for guests who prioritize a smooth sailing experience or have limited sailing experience.
On the other hand, sailing yachts offer a more authentic and serene sailing experience. With their reliance on wind power rather than engines, sailing yachts provide a quieter and more intimate atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and enjoying the natural beauty of Sardinia’s coastline. They evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance with their classic designs and billowing sails, appealing to travelers seeking an authentic maritime adventure. Additionally, eco-conscious travellers often prefer sailing vessels due to their lower environmental impact and reliance on renewable energy.
Ultimately, choosing a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Sardinia adventure depends on your preferences and desired level of comfort. Both options offer their own unique advantages and can provide an unforgettable journey along the breathtaking coastline of Sardinia.

Sardinia is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a part of the Mediterranean Sea, southwest of the Italian Peninsula and just south of the French island of Corsica. It is an autonomous region of Italy and boasts over 1,850 kilometers (1,150 miles) of coastline, featuring stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic cliffs. Sardinia is surrounded by smaller islands and archipelagos, such as the Maddalena Archipelago to the northeast, offering additional exploration and discovery opportunities on your own private yacht charter. These islands often have secluded beaches, hidden caves, and charming villages to explore.
Sardinia’s coastline boasts miles of superlative beaches and secret grottos only accessible by boat. Porto Cervo is at the region’s main center, home to Costa Smeralda. This area has become increasingly desirable for luxury yacht charters because of its remote location and exclusive atmosphere. South of Porto Cervo, you will find forested mountains, medieval villages, and stunning seas. Another recommended site is La Maddalena National Park, a marine reserve that offers opportunities for secluded anchorages and overnight stays. Spotted with seven main islands and many islets, La Maddalena offers crystal-clear waters for an afternoon snorkel and access to the beautiful pink sand beach named Pink of Budelli. Sardinia’s coastal cuisine differs from inland; the seafood base and pasta dishes pay homage to the sea and further contribute to the laidback yet luxurious atmosphere of the island.
When is the best time to go on a Sardinia yacht charter?
The best time to hop on a yacht and explore Sardinia is usually in the summer, from June to September. During this time, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for soaking up the sun and diving into the crystal-clear waters. Spring (April to May) and autumn (October to November) are great options for Charter guests who prefer fewer crowds. You’ll still get lovely weather and plenty of chances to enjoy the island’s beauty without the hustle and bustle of peak season. So, whether you’re aiming for exciting summer adventures or a more relaxed experience, there’s a perfect time for a Sardinia yacht adventure to fit your preferences.

More about a Sardinia Charter
A charter in Sardinia, Italy is quite an experience. Sardinia is a universe unto itself. It's an island of Italy, where the local language is incomprehensible to all other Italians. An island with one of Europe 's most stunning coastlines; it's waters teem with fish; it's golden sands disappear into oceans of blue; it's rugged mountains are covered with flocks of sheep producing cheese so pungent, your palate will never forget.
Sardinia is completely unique and the perfect place for a yacht charter holiday that mixes excitement with the exotic. During the summer private boats flock to Sardinia. With an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, concentrated from April to September and warm winds off the African continent, the Sardinian climate, can be quite delightful and not quite as hot as other yacht charter areas in the Mediterranean.
You'll find that the Sardinian ports and harbours compare very well with the Mediterranean’s other chic hot spots on the French Riviera or Italian Riviera . Summers tend to attract lovely warm days and crowds of millionaires, supermodels and luxury yachts, especially to the prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smeralda at Porto Cervo , near Olbia .
For those whose interests are a little more adventurous, Sardinia's humble bays and ports will allow you to explore some sheer and stunning terrain. A good start is the Grotte di Nettuno (Neptunes Caves) on the beautiful Capo Caccia to the north.
The Sardinian yachting scene has increased in popularity and gone from strength to strength of late, and the types of luxury charter yachts available are all the main types, including motor, sailing, skippered, crewed yachts, catamaran, power boat, sailboat, luxury yachts and the ever more frequent superyacht charter.
As with other parts of the Mediterranean and Italy, the Sardinian yacht chartering season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season in July and August is the hottest and tends to have lighter winds. This is also the high season as far as yacht charter goes.
Plain sailing with all the wind you need
Sardinia has a typical Mediterranean climate with three main winds to ensure great conditions for sailing: The powerful Maestrale - from the north down along the west coast, the strong Ponente - offshore west wind breezes through each season, and the warm Scirocco prevailing on the east coast.
Diverse landscape and geography
Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean. The island is 270 km from north to south and 145 km from east to west. It’s 190 km away from the Italian mainland and 12 km from Corsica . It has an interesting geography with mountains over 1,800 m. The rarely seen rain comes mainly in the winter and autumn.
The gorgeous Sardinia marine coastline
There are hundreds of private coves and stunning beaches along the coastline that beckon you to explore and plunge into. Find mysterious solitude in the myriad of hidden bays and large salt-water lagoons and pools.
With a Sardinia yacht charter, you’ll enjoy gorgeous crystal clear turquoise waters varying in all shades from green to blue.See the dramatic rock formations in the north and mesmerizing dunes on the west. Check out the relaxed sophisticated ambiance of the famous Emerald Coast . There are endless opportunities for exploration, relaxation, and pleasure on a Sardinian yacht charter.
Sardinia has a strong environmental ethos
Over 25% of the island's territory is protected - with three national parks – Asinara, Arcipelago di La Maddalena , and Gennargentu . There are also 60 wildlife reserves, 5 W.W.F oases, 25 natural monuments, and a Geomineral Park, preserved by UNESCO. There are many marine reserves and the best way to experience this natural bounty is by boat.
The island has laws prohibiting new building activities near natural and cultural sites. Wind and solar power have increased noticeably in recent years. Carlo Rubbia, Nobelist in physics, is creating an experimental solar/ thermal energy using Jatropha and Colza oils.
Rare native animals and plants
Sardinia is home to the Mediterranean Monk Seal, the Giara horse, the Albino Donkey, the Mouflon, the Sardinian Long-eared Bat, the Sardinian Deer, the Sardinian Fox, the wild boar, and the Maghreb, a skink that can reach 30 cm in length, and the Great Spotted Woodpecker.
The Famous Mediterranean Sardinian Cuisine
Sardines, rock lobster, squid, tuna, scampi, bottarga, and other seafood are predominant in Sardinian cuisine. This is fresh and simple Mediterranean seafood at its best. Also, wild boar and suckling pig are spit-roasted or boiled in bean and vegetable stews, thickened with bread. Your personal chef on your yacht will be able to gather fresh local Sardinia ingredients and create Sardinia inspired cuisine to your taste, as well as any other cooking styles your request.
Rich cultural customs still alive
Sardinians remain enthusiastic warm-hearted hosts. The native language is widely spoken on the island, as well as Italian. Sardinia is home to one of the oldest forms of vocal polyphony, known as Cantu A Tenore, which Frank Zappa and Peter Gabriel have found irresistible.
Sardinian culture is alive and well, and young people are actively involved - with carnival costumes and a unique three reed-cane instrument. Sardinia has produced notable jazz musicians such as Antonello Salis, Marcello Melis, and Paolo Fresu. Goat and sheep rearing are still important for cheese making. Crafts include rugs, jewellery, textile, lacework, basket making, and coral.
Intriguing ancient history with fascinating remnants
Sardinia has a unique heritage dating from 4000 BC - including the Phoenician sailors, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Saracen raiders, Spaniards, and African Berber pirates, famines survived on wild ferns and weeds, kidnappings, and political subversion. Much of this history is apparent from remnants and influences on the coastline and can be seen from your boat. Some of the best sites, however, require a shore trip and you can ask your captain or charter broker to organise this for you. Here are a few fascinating remnants: • Giants' Tombs – at Aiodda near Nurallao-Nuragus and Coddu Vecchiu • Nuraghe – megalithic round tower-fortresses such as at Su Nuraxi di Barumini - a UNESCO World Heritage Site • Castle - 13th century, at Acquafredda near Siliqua • Necropolis - Anghelu Ruju • Temple - Antas • Romanesque church - of Santa Maria del Regno • Catalan Gothic church - 16th century, at Assemini • Ghost villages and industrial architecture – at Argentiera • Paintings from the 15th century – at Benetutti church • Fascinating cave – at Bonu Ighinu
Sardinia has strong traditions in darts, football, and car racing. Sassari has the Mores Raceway and Cagliari has hosted Formula 3000 racing. Olbia has hosted the Rally d'Italia Sardegna in the FIA World Championship - held on narrow, twisty mountainous roads around the glamorous town of Porto Cervo.
Of course sailing is big here! Cagliari hosts regular international regattas, such the RC44 championship, the Farr 40 World championship, and the Audi MedCup. Several America's Cup contenders have been attracted here, and part of the Louis Vuitton Trophy was held in the Maddalena archipelago in 2010. Porto Pollo is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers by virtue of a western wind that accelerates between Sardinia and Corsica. In 2005, Aglientu, hosted the Kitesurf World Cup. Sa Istrumpa, also known as Sardinian Wrestling, is a traditional Sardinian sport, officially recognized by the Italian National Olympic Committee.
Sardinia is perhaps one of the most well-known places for yacht racing and superyacht regattas and the annual sailing events include the Sardinia Cup , The Pendennis Cup , the Dubois Cup , the Superyacht Regatta and more.
Inland transport
The best way to get around on a Sardinia holiday is by sea, on your own bespoke luxury private crewed charter yacht. For those who do venture inland a driver and car can be organised to pick you up from your yacht. Sardinia has a system of dual carriage freeways that connect the main towns and transport infrastructures with a relaxed speed limit of 90 km/h. The secondary inland and mountain roads get narrow with many hairpin turns. With a low population density, the smallest territories are reachable only by car. Trains also connect the whole island.
Your Sardinia yacht charter vacation – with yacht rental or crewed yacht – can take you anywhere around this jewel of the Mediterranean. A wide range of superyachts, luxury yachts, and charter yachts is available to suit your needs.

Sardinia Itinerary
CHARTER IN SARDINIA
As you sail up on your super yacht to the island of Sardinia, you are immediately impacted by the striking contrasts of the landscape. The rolling mountains are punctured by scalloped bays filled with snow white sand, all engulfed in the inconceivable blue of the Mediterranean Sea. The juxtaposition doesn’t end with the scenery as Sardinia has some of the Med’s hottest nightlife adjacent to a unique tranquility afforded by tiny coves and hidden beaches. Explore one of Italy’s greatest treasures just off the coast of the Italian peninsula for a Mediterranean experience you can’t miss.
PORTO CERVO
Porto rotondo, southwest sardinia, la maddalena, day 1 — porto cervo.
Combining glamor with a laid-back cool Porto Cervo is Sardinia’s hub of life with mouth-watering restaurants and high-end shopping. Costa Smeralda, the Emerald Coast, lies in northern Sardinia and is known for its extravagance so enjoy the bustling town before meeting the yacht. Relax and have cocktails as you cruise the coastline. In the afternoon, hit the green at Pevero Golf Club or enjoy a spa treatment at the popular Hotel Cala di Volpe, then enjoy an afternoon aperitif. As the sun sets, head for Phi Beach or the uber-fabulous Billionaire Club to dance the night away with the glitterati.
DAY 2 — PORTO ROTONDO
Cruising south, you’ll find the tiny resort community of Porto Rotondo. With substantially less tourists than its neighbor sit in the Piazzetta San Marco for a morning coffee with locals and fellow yachters. Continue your peaceful excursion by sailing to a petite cove with private more intimate beaches. Less haute than Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo has a more relaxed atmosphere, but still offers luxury. Hotel Sporting’s local seafood dishes and impressive wine list make this spot a must-visit.
DAY 3 — CALA LUNA
As you continue to cruise southeast, you’ll be enamored by the beauty of Cala Luna. Craggy limestone cliffs covered by dense greenery plunge into the aquamarine waters. Early risers are rewarded by the surreal view created when the sun rises and illuminates the coastal caves. Created by a landslide in 1962, Cala Goloritze is one of Sardinia’s most beautiful beaches. Featuring numerous other beaches mixing smooth white pebble and sand, explore the white crescent of Cala Luna and discover the wonders of the cave-pitted cliffs.
DAY 4 — CAGLIARI
The best way to arrive in Cagliari is by sea. Cruise into the island’s capital for a view of the town’s medieval architecture in “old town” Il Castello contrasted against the contemporary harbor. An archaeology museum in town will transport you as its home to the Nuragic complex, 4,000-year old stone defensive structures found only in Sardinia. If history isn’t on the menu, enjoy some local shopping on Via Roma and Via Manu.
DAY 5 — SOUTHWEST SARDINIA
Originally a mining heartland, the abandoned mines are now home to various museums and visitor attractions. Visit Forte Village Le Dune for a relaxing day at Thermae de Forte, a Leading Spa of the World. If you’re itching for more excitement and have young children a stop at Leisure Land is necessary. Filled with activities like go-karting, ice skating, and bowling it’s fun for the whole family. Before you set sail take in the spectacular views of the Italy’s highest sand dunes at Le Dune nearby. Continue cruising Sardinia’s coastline, dotted with tiny towns and cozy coves, and you will come to the Sardinian Islands. Sant’Antioco, the larger island, and San Pietro-Punto di Cala Fico are wild and ruggedly beautiful with deep waters and high cliffs. Charters with children will want to stop at Forte Village Le Dune. Not only does it boast the Thermae de Forte, a Leading Spa of the World, but also go-karting, ice skating, bowling and more can be found at Leisure Land. Be sure to stop at Le Dune, located close by, which is home to Italy’s highest sand dunes — a spectacular sight.
DAY 6 — ALGHERO
Continuing up the west coast of Sardinia, you’ll stumble on Alghero. The Catalonians left a distinct impression on this town which can be seen through the architecture and the culture. Walk along the cobblestone streets to the centro storico and stop for lunch at a restaurant where the menus are often written in both Italian and Catalan. During the day venture into the Grotte di Nettuno, a cave full of stalactites, which are essentially icicles protruding menacingly from the ceiling in an impressive natural feat. Wine lovers will rejoice as Alghero is home to a bevy of impressive vineyards. Enjoy a wine tasting before dinner in this beautiful old town.
DAY 7 — LA MADDALENA
One of Sardinia’s better kept secrets, La Maddalena was declared a national park in 1996 and has fewer tourist footprints than other destinations along the coast. Part of an archipelago comprising of 6 other islands, fest your eyes on the grey-pink granite rocks, thorny macchie and miles of pine forest standing above some of the best beaches in Sardinia. On Razzioli you will find a blush pink and beach coyly awaiting. Anchor offshore and take a tender to explore.

Luxury Catamarans for Charter in Sardinia
Catamarans turn out to be the first choice for yacht charters in Sardinia for their exceptional stability with dual-hulled support. Besides, catamarans are also designed and created for experiencing magnificence with their expansive decks and huge masts. Thanks to its barely-moving waters, the Mediterranean climate is ideal, while faring in the sea can be hugely satisfying for peace-seeking souls. Go for a bareboat catamaran if you enjoy sailing in privacy.
But pay attention, the coastline around Sardinia is also rocky and uneven at places. Hence, our suggestion for a relaxing voyage in this part of the Mediterranean is to hire a crewed catamaran. It will ensure you do not have to worry about navigating, sailing, or maintaining direction. On the other hand, you can also experience the best of Sardinian food with our seasoned chefs while onboard the yacht, along with a host of luxury assistance from the accompanying crew on your boat in Sardinia .
Mega and Superyachts for Rent in Sardinia
Giving wings to your fanaticized sailing itinerary around Sardinia can be best achieved by renting a crewed motorboat for a luxury yacht charter in Sardinia . With a combination of lavishness, speed, and safety, realize your chartering adventures through the crystal clear water. Delight in exceptional treatments and services of refined luxury with our crewed motor yachts. Veteran skippers, chefs proficient in Mediterranean cuisine, and a trained crew at their disposal make for the best accompaniment while on this sailing itinerary.
We select and provide customized motorboats for traversing around Sardinia. Our crew members and skippers come with years of professional voyaging through uneven shores. Let them guide you to the secret beauties of Sardinia and South Italy. Or cruise the Sardinian seascape at your whim with the wind through your hair.
Luxury Sailing Yachts in Sardinia
Sailboats give you a tremendous languid maritime experience. Take the sailing wheel and cut through the northwestern winds with our bareboat services. Our hired bareboat sailboat services can be your perfect cruising reverie. At the same time, this is true for the adventurous kind; a traveler looking for privy relaxation will find our luxury crewed services right up their alley.
We offer customized sailboats that can fit perfectly with your fancy imagination. Opt for a skippered or crewed yacht in Sardinia if you want to cherish the waves and the frivolities on-shore, only to return and find a sumptuous dinner served with the concierge. For the more privy-minded, we also have the best bareboat services waiting.
Tavolara Island
Start this much-awaited seafaring sojourn from Marina di Portisco on Sardinia's island and head straight to the Tavolara Island at 16 nautical miles. Located in the Gulf of Aranci, Tavolara is made up of a huge chunk of granite rock. It is also a well-known dolphin-watching resort in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Take your chances at some adventure water sports like scuba diving and snorkeling.
The island of Caprera lies in the archipelago of La Maddalena at a distance of 24 nautical miles from the Tavolara Island, making it a suitable next destination to drop anchor. While sailing towards Caprera, you will enjoy northern winds of high intensity throughout the 4-hour trail, making it a delightful Mediterranean experience.
Caprera is more of a national park with exotic flora and fauna to witness. It comprises a group of 63 islands and islets, with only Caprera and Magdalena having human habitation. While getting down, you can catch fine white sand dressed on the beaches with sparkling blue water surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and nature, adding beauty to the exceptional yacht charter in Sardinia .
La Maddalena
One of the islands in this archipelago, voyaging towards La Maddalena is a morning travesty you can easily cover around 1 hour and a half from Caprera. It offers untouched nature, and it can prove to be one hell of a paradise with spectacular views and tranquil waters all around.
Budelli and Bonifacio
Your next anchorage has to be between the three virgin islands of Razzoli, Budelli, and Santa Maria. Don’t forget to look out for the famous pink beach while sailing to your next destination. It offers a sight worth beholding.
After some exploration on the three Virgin Islands, you can head straight to the last one on the list; Bonifacio in Corsica, some 22 nautical miles away. If you avail of our bareboat services, make sure to research well in advance as crossing the Strait of Bonifacio can be a risky affair without expert hands on deck.
Missing out on a swimming experience in the crystal clear Mediterranean waters can be a regret of a lifetime. However, this native land of Napoleon also hosts a spectacular picturesque view. The perfect sunrises and sunsets deserve a night off-shore around these isles while luxury cruising in Sardinia .
Plan your Mediterranean vacation today. Book from one of our luxury vessels and get set to experience the wonder of a lifetime.
Explore Sardinia aboard a Luxury Yacht
Being the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, with a coastline stretching up to 1,848 km, Sardinia is a host to beautiful seaside beaches. It has a 1.6 million people population while being a popular destination for sailors, skippers, surfers, and adventure water sports enthusiasts. The scenic sailing panorama offers a cruising paradise to yachtsmen.
However, numerous reefs and shallow waters around it also means the skippers require expert navigational skills. This unique place offers a welcoming environment with ideal weather all-year-round for luxury cruising in Sardinia . Sardinia is separated from Corsica by the Strait of Bonifacio while giving a cruiser multiple ports to anchor in between.
Apart from the inland beauty that it offers, a boat rental in Sardinia cannot be complete without a voyage through the smaller islands, reaching up to Corsica. One can opt for a crewed catamaran or sailboat for a week-long luxury charter, dropping anchor at Tavolara Island, Caprera, La Maddalena, Budelli.

Superyacht Charter Corsica & Sardinia
Private Yachting Cruises in Corsica and Sardinia
A superyacht charter in Corsica & Sardinia takes in clear turquoise waters, stunning small islands, mountainside towns and hundreds of golden beaches. The wild landscapes of Corsica are great for hiking, and Sardinia's ultra-luxury Costa Smeralda yacht club is a favourite playground of the superyacht set. Rent a crewed motor or sailing boat with YPI to have the best cruising possible in Corsica & Sardinia. This is an example of an eight day yacht charter itinerary for Corsica & Sardinia. Yacht charter itineraries are created individually for every client based around personal preferences and how you want to spend your time onboard your superyacht in Corsica & Sardinia.
Girolata Bay
City meets nature.
Board your private superyacht in Calvi and cruise to Girolata Bay, lying in the Scandola Nature Reserve and surrounded by high red rock mountains, a wonderfully scenic and atmospheric place to spend time. Take the yacht tender to explore Corsica's caves and coves by boat. Walk up through the pine-scented mountains and snap spectacular shots of your charter yacht in the bay below. Stop for lunch in the small village of Girolata, at the Le Bel Ombra restaurant, famous for its locally caught langouste, or spiny lobster. Linger over dessert, taking in the fantastic view.
Bays and Beaches
Wild Island
Anchor off Asinara to swim and snorkel in waters of bright turquoise. The island itself has a fascinating history, as a former prison now converted into a national park. Explore the coastal village of Cala d'Oliva, a former penal colony, and the island's steep rocky coasts, small coves from a crewed motor or sailing yacht. The island, only populated by its native donkeys, can be discovered by bike or electric car.
Sea and City
On to Bonifacio, a picturesque waterfront harbour with pastel-coloured houses rising up behind. Have your camera ready for the cruise out, which takes you through a fjord-like channel with iconic views of this extraordinary hilltop town. Anchor your superyacht in the Lavezzi Islands, formed by huge granite blocks weathered by the elements, and dive or snorkel to discover rich marine life. Enjoy cocktails and dinner onboard the boat later, feeling totally at peace in this magical anchorage.
Porto Vecchio
Hike, swim and party.
Head to the pretty town of Porto Vecchio. Enjoy a round of golf on one of the 18-hole courses or take a picnic prepared by the yacht's chef and go hiking in the Ospedale Forest. Explore the area's many pretty coves and beaches by tender and spend the afternoon on your favourite beach. In the evening, wander around the vibrant, historical holiday town, known as the Saint-Tropez of Corsica.
Maddalena Islands
Castaway islands.
Cruise to the Maddalena archipelago, made up of seven large islands and 55 tiny ‘isolotti’. Take the tender from the boat to discover these castaway islands - the pristine beach of Cala Soraya on uninhabited Spargi or the islands of Budelli and Razzoli. Explore Razzoli with its granite rocks resembling petrified giants. Anchor off Maddalena island in the beautiful bay and enjoy fresh fish at La Scogliera restaurant. Continue on to Porto Cervo for partying , and then back to your charter vessel.
Porto Cervo
The in crowd.
Spend the day at one of the many beautiful beaches or exclusive beach clubs surrounding Porto Cervo. Visit a spa for some pampering or play a round of golf at the Pevero Golf Club. Shop in Porto Cervo itself for that perfect outfit. Head to the chic Hotel Cala di Volpe for a dinner of Michelin-quality food and fine wine before dancing the night away at the Billionaire Club. Spend another evening here on your rental yacht with the crew or carry on the party in nearby Porto Rotondo.
Disembarkation
Enjoy a last breakfast onboard your motor yacht or sailing yacht charter before you disembark in Olbia. Time permitting before onward travel, explore the centro storico (historic centre), browsing boutiques and watching the world go by from a wine bar or piazza cafe.

There is evidence that Sardinia was first occupied by Man as long as 100,000 years ago. Could the island be the 'real Atlantis'? There are a lot of references in the tale of the city consumed by the sea that matches the island, and once more a Sardinian civilisation called the Nuragic people came to play an important role in Mediterranean trade for several centuries, around 1800 years BC.
The island has been subject to domination by different empires from the Byzantines to the Spanish and now, Italy. Each and every age of history has left its mark on Sardinia so though fiercely Catholic you will see references to local pages traditions in the different festivals that happen every year. From nearby Corsica Napoleon Bonaparte wanted Sardinia but the naval and land forces of Europe fended them off. You never know - you may sit in a restaurant once enjoyed by Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson himself!
There is even a language - Sardo - that only Sardinian people speak. The island nation is aware of its current and past ownership by different countries but still very much one of its own.
Hire a yacht in Sardinia to explore this diverse and unique nation on a sailing holiday. There is so much to explore and absorb from its beaches on the east coast to the deep local culture throughout that you may well come back home wanting for more!
Hiring A Yacht In Sardinia
Hiring a yacht in Sardinia follows that of any Italian yacht charter. There is very little to worry about, as long as you have any paperwork you need to hand. If on a bareboat charter you will need your sailing certificates, as well as passport and a credit card/charter insurance policy to hand to cover the legal requirements of a Sardinia yacht charter.
If you are on a luxury yacht charter with a skipper or crew aboard then you just need to worry about getting to the dock!
Whether bareboat or skippered yacht charter you then leave the marina and off you go.
Expect beautiful, quiet, protected natural parks and peaceful beaches with few people around. Don't expect nightclubs full of people on chemicals gyrating to loud music until dawn. Expect fine Italian food and booze that will tickle the tastebuds - enjoy a little too much but don't expect large numbers of 18-year-olds competing to cause themselves liver damage.
The locals welcome yacht charter groups, but it is plain that the nation's primary economy - agriculture, fisheries and viticulture - are of more interest to them than hordes of tourists tramping over their beautiful land. Respect them and they will welcome you warmly. The world adapts to Sardinian life - never in the fast lane but always deeply cultured, warm and genuine.
Getting to the islands
There are direct flights from several airports in the UK and Europe. Let's look at the three main airports:
Cagliari: This is the capital of Sardinia and the international airport serves the south of the island.
Olbia: Serving the Costa Smeralda and north coast of Sardinia with its fine beaches, boutiques, fine dining and laid back vibe. There are a number of direct flights from Italian airports to Olbia too.
Alghero: This smaller international airport has direct flights from several European countries and is great for accessing the Costa Smeralda and west coast with its high cliffs and secluded anchorages.
Ferries from Civitavecchia: There are 38 sailings a day from Civitavecchia on Italy's west coast (not far from Rome). These serve the main cities of Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia as well as a number of smaller towns on the island. In theory, you could drive to Italy and then take a car ferry or fly to Rome and go by bus and on foot to the island.
Best Areas To Charter
Emerald coast.
Almost every stereotype of island life on the Mediterranean can be found here. Beautiful natural harbours like the Cala di Volpe, stunning islets such as the Isola de Cappuccini, dominated by its abandoned Franciscan convent, and churches like the Stella Maris will astound you as you pause and wander this epicentre of luxury holidays.
Maddalena island group
Sailing the Maddalena islands is challenging as, as well as the 60 islands in the La Maddalena archipelago there are an awful lot of rocks! On the Bonifacio Strait, the sailing can be very exciting too. That said with just one island - Maddalena Island - inhabited this is a chance for deep solitude and connection with nature. The views will awe you and the silence will reach deep into you. Don't miss the Spiaggia Rosa - the famous pink beach of Bocelli.
Most people fly or take a ferry into Olbia and don't really pause to appreciate the town. A laid back town that was occupied long before the Romans arrived, it has a lot to take in. Do visit the archaeological museum, the Chiesa di San Paolo church and the Basilica Minore di San Simplicio - the three main tourist attractions. The vibe is more why people visit - the food, the fine alcohol and a chance to forget the world outside.
Porto Pozzo
Typically Sardinian, a yacht charter along the north coast to the fishing village of Porto Pozzo will be a worthwhile pause on your trip around the island. There's much to absorb but this is no buzzing metropolitan centre. You will get fish so fresh it was swimming just hours before it reaches your plate. Taste the locally made ice cream! Enjoy the natural world of the islands nearby.
On an island renowned for its snorkelling and scuba diving, Cannigione is widely held as one of the best villages for this even for Sardinia. There is a commercial fishing port - this means excellent fish in the restaurants - and the beach is astounding.
On the NE Costa Smeralda, Portisco has a large marina and is more town than a village. You may well charter a yacht direct from Portisco, but it is worthy of a pause in its own right, particularly Porto Rotondo - perhaps the last gulp of town life before disappearing into a world of quiet villages and deserted anchorages! The white sandy beach is a great place to catch the sun while the bars and restaurants will get your stomach juices flowing.
Porto Cervo
Unlike many sleepy backwater destinations in Sardinia, this town has a buzz about it - if you have the cash to enjoy it! Buzzy nightspots where you can party all night and shop until you drop with the ladies who lunch at the top end boutiques and restaurants serving the best Sardinian cuisine. Perhaps lie back and relax at a luxury spa too? Once one of the top destinations of the billionaire elite, Porto Cervo still struts its stuff today and accessible directly from Olbia airport now.
Before you absorb yourself into the deep history of this important Mediterranean trading port of the past, do pop into Neptune's Grotto sea cave. That will give you a taste of the natural history of Alghero before you absorb yourself in a town that has relics of empires long into the past. Explore on foot or by bike.
Arriving in (or departing from) Marina Piccola, you will see the capital of Sardinia as sailors have done for centuries - through the marina itself is very modern! Cagliari is a small city in southern Sardinia with 150,000 citizens but the biggest city on the island. If beaches are your thing, drop by the five-mile (8km) long Poetto Beach where you are sure to find a big space to yourself. The history? This goes right back to pre-history so you will be spoiled to death as you explore it!
On the Isola di San Pietro, around four miles off the SW coast of Sardinia, Carloforte is the only urban centre on the island with some 5,000 lucky residents calling it home. Unlike Sardinia's Sardo, the locals speak Ligurian, a language that is part European and part Tunisian. It started out as a fishing village but its quaint charms draw tourists from all over. Very much one of those dialled backstops on a yacht charter, you will be enchanted as you explore this beautiful village.
Best Towns To Charter A Yacht In Sardinia
Cannigione on the northern coast of the island has a number of marinas from which to hire a boat. You can access it via Olbia airport or the ferry terminal at Olbia. Great for exploring the Emerald Coast and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Olbia is one of the busiest transit towns in Sardinia with a ferry port and an airport. It also has a number of marinas from which you can set off to explore the NW and NE of Sardinia.
Porto Cervo is a party town with a large marina to launch your trip from. It has a number of superyacht berths so if that's your chosen means of exploring this fine island, could well be your departure point. Again, this is close to Olbia airport.
Cagliari on the south coast of Sardinia has its own airport and ferry port with links to mainland Italy. The capital of Sardinia, it is the nearest thing to a cosmopolitan centre you're likely to find on the island! There are several marinas to depart from, easily accessible by taxi or bus from the airport.
Types Of Yachts To Hire
Where it comes to chartering you can hire a motorboat, a monohull sailing yacht, catamaran , Superyacht or Luxury Yacht charter and ribs or day boats. Each has their benefits.
What better way to see this great island than from the bridge of a motor yacht with your friends and family relaxing in the sunshine as you blast along? Often with en suite bathrooms and ample saloon, a motorboat can be a most enjoyable way of seeing this historic island in all its glory.
You will not be the only superyacht on Sardinian waters by any means. You never know - you may be able to do some networking with some of your comfortably off fellows on other boats! Fully crewed and coming in a variety of sizes from large to extremely large, you will find yourself pampered and rested as you see the very best that the island has to offer.
Luxury Charter Yacht
Like superyachts, these will often come with a skipper and perhaps crew but can be sailed on your own too. You'll get what you pay for including perhaps a smaller water tender or toy for exploring those nooks and crannies of the coast and islands of Sardinia.
Still at the luxury end of yachting, and sometimes with sails or without, catamarans are great for getting close into shore thanks to their shallow drafts. That means you can have a barbecue, swim and lie on the beach or rocks all with the boat a stone's throw away... They often have big spaces for sunbathing and the sailing catamarans have a good lick of speed on a reach too!
Monohull sailing yacht
Though the smallest come in at a good budget price, monohull sailing yachts aren't all heeling on a wet beat! Often very comfortable in their own right, monohull yachts can be very fun to sail on waters that are renowned for their excellent sailing. Isn't the journey meant to be as exciting as the destination itself?
Skippered Yacht charter or Bareboat?
Where it comes to a Sardinia yacht charter you have two choices - bareboat hire or skippered yacht charter. Both have their own advantages.
Skippered charter
You don't need any sailing qualifications to have a skippered yacht charter. That could mean you have no sailing experience at all or you could just lack the confidence to sail your family and friends yourself.
Another advantage of a skippered yacht charter is that you will benefit from the local experience and knowledge of people who know these waters like the backs of their hands and should be able to show you things non-locals wouldn't risk or even know about.
Bareboat yacht charter
Perhaps chained to your desk for the last six months you have dreamed of cutting loose and being your own person, in charge of your own journey and destinations with just your family, friends and sealife for the company? You will need sailing qualifications (read below) but then can cut loose and experience the world under your own steam wherever you want...
Do you need a licence to charter in Sardinia?
If you want to bareboat charter you will need an approved boating qualification, below is a list of relevant qualifications:
International Certificate of Competence (ICC): Standard European Qualification for bareboat sailing
ASA 104 Bareboat sailing certificate : The American Sailing Associations skipper minimum qualification for hiring bareboat yachts
RYA: The Royal Yachting Association's qualifications (minimum day skipper level) is necessary for bareboat charter hire, it's also worthwhile seeing do you need to have done a VHF radio course, as well as some boat owners, will require this.
There are also many other European national boating qualifications that are accepted here too. It's worthwhile checking these details before hiring.
If you want a skippered boat rental as a charter yacht then you don't need any sailing certification at all, you just turn up and off you go.
Best Times To Hire
Sardinia has some of the best sailings on the Mediterranean year-round. The season is March - September, and outside of the school holidays, you can enjoy sailing at a good price. In late September the seas are still warm yet it is cooler than the baking temperatures of August too.
July and August are the peak sailing season. This will mean marinas are more expensive and the anchorages are crowded. The nightspots and restaurants will be full, and for those for whom that is a draw, this will be the best time of year.
The Climate
Mistral (Maestrale): Generally dying off to excellent sailing winds come March and picking up again in September, this NW wind comes from the French Alps and is the main wind of winter. It can be quite fierce and can pop its head up at any time of the year.
Libeccio: This SW wind tends to be the wind of summer, heating the air and getting feisty through the Bocche di Bonifacio between Sardinia and Corsica. It is dominant on the west coast of the island.
The Sirocco is a humid wind blowing from the deserts of North Africa. This is dry until it crosses the Mediterranean but the heat draws in moisture so expect a lot of humidity.
Yes, yacht hire in Sardinia is legal. It is one of the best ways to appreciate the island to its full too!
There is usually a boat that will meet every budget to rent in Sardinia. Whether a small RIB to explore a bay, a luxury yacht to see the islands in style, or partying about a multimillion Euro superyacht, you will find a vessel to rent with Borrow A Boat you can afford.
Do you have the qualifications and experience? If not you can take a skippered yacht charter or gulet. You will need to passage plan and victual in the normal way on a bareboat charter. Consider which nights you want at anchor and which you want in port - and budget accordingly.
March to September is the main sailing season. July to August are the busiest and most expensive. If your kids don't need you at home, September can be the best time of year owing to price, warmth and peace and quiet!
You will normally pay 50% upfront ahead of taking on the yacht charter. You will pay the balance on arrival. In addition you will normally pay a refundable security deposit on your credit card - though this can be covered with a yacht charter insurance policy.
If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to/are on a mooring you will be able to phone a number given by the yacht charter company.
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter you want to book and where do you want to go. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks lile the weather can be cool as well as warm
If you are coming from within the European Union you will not normally have to have a visa. If you are coming to Sardinia from outside, from many English speaking countries you will be allowed in on a standard tourist waiver or visa. If in doubt contact your Italian Embassy.

Yachting in Sardinia is aimed at tourists who want to live a sustainable travel experience, aware of preserving the terrestrial and marine environment. It is, in fact, the alternative to the overbuilding that increasingly covers our coasts, also allowing us to reach those hidden corners of the coast, not reachable by land, but of great charm, while at the same time preserving their value. In 2018, after twenty years of activity in the charter sector, having had the vision of what could have been the growth prospects of the Eco-sustainable Nautical Tourism sector, the company decided to change gear and starting from the choice of a certifying body expert in the tourist accommodation sector (and not nautical) such as CSQA, revolutionizing its processes in an integral way and completely redesigning the operational model of the activity. It is also the first Nautical Hotel accommodation facility in the world to also have ISO 9001 certification.
The company today offers its customers the opportunity to find the right offer for their holiday by directly visiting the Yachting in Sardinia website where 8 different offers are available every day, valid only for 24 hours, for a fleet of boats that are completely similar. and throughout to floating and completely eco-sustainable housing units, equipped with all comforts and divided into categories (exclusive, comfort and standard). The customer on board receives 24-hour assistance, also thanks to the SeaTutor monitoring system, and can count on a dedicated Service Operator, ready to respond to any needs of the guest crew, giving the customer the opportunity to experience the sea in total safety.
Group Y has been investing for years in the technical set-up of its boats: from the massive use of photovoltaics, to the elimination of endothermic generators, from the use of double alternators combined with automotive-derived battery packs, to the use of watermakers, from use of purifiers, up to the revolutionary "zero" impact underwater protective coating: the SeaProtector, which replaces traditional antifouling, not only improving the performance of the hull by reducing fuel consumption, but, being totally free of biocides toxic, avoid releasing any type of harmful substance into the water.
