Take A Cruise On The Barefoot Princess Riverboat In Myrtle Beach
By Life, Family Fun Team
Updated on March 31, 2023
On our recent visit to Myrtle Beach, SC we had the pleasure to cruise on the beautiful Barefoot Princess Riverboat . Riverboat cruises have a special place in my heart. The Barefoot Princess is the only riverboat cruise in the Myrtle Beach area which makes it even more special. My family and I truly had an unforgettable time that evening enjoying the beauty of the river, the food, the entertainment and each other’s company. My family and I even got to steer the boat!
About The Barefoot Princess Riverboat
The Barefoot Princess is 64 feet long and 24 feet wide. Not only is she a beautiful riverboat, she can hold 130 passengers, so she’s a good size. There are three floors on the ship so there is plenty of room to move around. They serve dinner on the main floor, a cash bar on the second with some dancing and music, and really amazing sight seeing on the open third floor.
Welcome Aboard
As you walk on the boat, you’ll see the boat is designed to be welcoming. We entered the boat through the lower level and we were welcomed by the dining room, which was set up beautifully. I think at that point, my stomach got a little excited by the dinner I knew was soon to follow.
Friendly Staff
When you first walk up to the Barefoot Princess Riverboat, you are greeted by very friendly staff. It was invigorating to see someone smiling at you and excited to see you. There is just something about a friendly warm smile that makes any experience that much better.
Bar and Drinks
There is also an exclusive bar and drink option on the boat. I did notice that they had a nice selection of mixed and bar drinks available. Plus, you can walk up there to get whatever you want and the bar tender is more than happy to accommodate you.
Music and Dancing
If you’re a huge fan of music and dancing, like I am, then you’ll love this part of the Barefoot Princess Riverboat Cruise. It’s such a fun part of the experience. The musician was welcoming in letting others join in on the fun. The music was REALLY a nice touch to experience on a 2 hour dinner cruise.
Enjoying a relaxing evening on a boat is one thing, but experiencing it on the Intercoastal Waterway is phenomenal. The trees along the bank of the river are beautiful. The water is sparkling and when we went, the weather was perfect. A really neat thing about the Barefoot Princess is that she runs, even if it’s raining. They are able to do this because the 1 st and 2 nd decks are enclosed and are even climate controlled.
The Barefoot Princess Riverboat has an amazing menu. Each cruise has either a lunch or dinner listed and it includes food and drinks. You’ll notice that there is also a snack bar for you to purchase various drinks and snacks from. Our particular dinner cruise which was a more casual cruise included hamburgers and hot dogs and all the fixings. It was so yummy we had to go back for seconds!
If you’re in the Myrtle Beach area and looking for something to do, the Barefoot Princess Riverboat Cruise is something your family will remember for years to come. You may also want to check out my recommendations of Top 15 Things To Do in Myrtle Beach .

Top 5 Riverboat Tours on the Grand Strand
Everyone knows about the Myrtle Beach oceanfront. Featuring a 60-mile stretch of white sand beaches, the Grand Strand attracts millions annually to soak up the sun, sand and surf where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Carolina coast. But there’s another side to local life, one that is accessible only by boat through the backwaters around Myrtle Beach. Here are the top five riverboat cruises to take if you want to see a different side of the Strand:
Barefoot Princess : Take a relaxing ride down the Intracoastal Waterway aboard this luxurious riverboat cruise. Moored at the Barefoot Marina behind Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, the three-story, 64 x 24 foot vessel takes up to 130 passengers for an amazing tour of a side of the Grand Strand most vacationers never see. Check out the views of beautiful homes on both banks and the scenic sight of sunset to the west from the observation deck, or enjoy music and dancing in the air-conditioned areas on the first two floors. The Barefoot Princess offers three different tours the Sightseeing Cruise, Sunset Cruise and Dinner Cruise. Reservations can be made at www.mbriverboat.com .
Brookgreen Gardens : This former rice and indigo plantation turned botanical garden is best known for the beautiful works of art and nature that adorn the 9,000-acre property, and the Lowcountry Wildlife and Petting Zoo and Gullah Cultural Center are also popular attractions among guests. But the best-kept secret about this Murrells Inlet destination are the riverboat cruises that are offered to guests during the fall months. Visitors board small boats to tour the tidal creeks and rivers that border the property. The Big and Little Pee Dee Rivers, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Waccamaw River converge nearby to create swampy and scenic photo ops, and passengers can also see the old rice fields, alligators and rare birds of prey. For more information, visit www.brookgreen.org .
Plantation River Tours : The South Carolina Lowcountry is filled with old plantation homes, rice fields, slave quarters and other relics from the state's antebellum history, but most were built on the water and are reachable only by boat. The rivers that surround the Waccamaw Neck area in Murrells Inlet offers access to another place in time, and Plantation River Tours has a variety of boats and tours to choose from. The Waccamaw Lady is a 60-foot pontoon boat that carries passengers on a lazy ride past several points of interest, and your captain/tour guide Dale Prox is a local historian with a wealth of information about the area. The Waccamaw Cooter is an elongated air boat that takes passengers for a wild ride through the backwaters of the Lowcountry. For more information, visit www.plantationrivertours.com .
Rover Boat Tours : Why take a riverboat when you can take a rover boat? This 40-foot pontoon boat sails out of Winyah Bay in Georgetown and carries passengers for a slow ride along the coastline for views of bird sanctuaries, lighthouses, shipwrecks and the abundant wildlife that call the Lowcountry home. This 3 to 4 hour trip offers a unique view of the waters and wetlands along the barrier islands of the South Carolina coast. For more information, visit www.roverboattours.com .
Wacammaw River Tours : The Waccamaw River is a winding waterway that runs from Lake Waccamaw just over the North Carolina border to Winyah Bay in Georgetown, SC. Consisting of dark waters that wind through dense woodlands and pristine wetlands, the Waccamaw offers a scenic view of the Grand Strand's natural side. Among the many sites passengers can encounter are a national wildlife refuge, former rice plantations and the Wacatee Zoo, where it's not uncommon to see an elephant taking a bath in the river and other exotic animals roaming the shore. Enjoy a glass of wine while you wind down the Waccamaw and soak up all the sights and sounds. For more information, visit www.waccamawrivertours.com .
Come explore by boat, and see what all there is to offer! Enjoy your stay at Paradise Resort, Myrtle Beach!

Thank you so much for your kind words and your review! We are so happy you enjoyed your time with us and we would love to welcome you onboard again!
We had the BEST experience today on this cruise. Went for lunch as a birthday treat for my hubby! Our Uber driver drove us right to the dock to get the boat instead of at the parking lot to catch the shuttle because we were running close to departure and I didn't want to miss it. They called to make sure we were still coming. On the way there, it was POURING rain! The second we stepped on the boat, the rain slowed and the sun came out!! The rest of the trip was smooth sailing! The staff was amazing! From the captain, to the singer /narrator (Dan or Dave...sorry I can't remember) who was awesome, to his wife Audrey, to the bartender Michelle to Jeff who helped us direct our Uber to pick us up, to Antwain who answered all of our questions, everyone was so nice! We didn't purchase the lunch but the sandwich looked good so I got it and it was pretty tasty. It turned out to be a beautiful day on the Barefoot Queen! We will be back next time we're in SC! Thank you all for a fantastic experience!

Had a class reunion on the barefoot queen the crew was awesome. I highly recommend them for your private events. They go above and beyond to accommodate your group.
We were visiting from Washington, DC. Thank you, guys, for the experience. The food, drinks, live singing, choices of music, and engagement with other people were just what we needed to make her birthday dinner special. We will be returning. Warm Regards, Catherine

Thank you so much Catherine! We are so thrilled you had a great time and that were a part of the birthday celebration! Thank you so much for cruising with us and we really look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon!
It was our first time , and the trip was very organized. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the boat and the tables with table clothes. The food was good and plenty of it. The entertainer was awesome. Even though it rained it was a wonderful trip. Since it was enclosed you can enjoy the two hour trip rain or shine. Looking forward to another trip

Thank you Cindy! We are so happy you decided to join us on a cruise! We hope to see you again soon!
Two words can sum up the entire experience: Just NO! For anyone who wants the unvarnished true full experience - Here you go: First off let me say that this review has nothing to do with whether the staff is friendly. They are all very friendly. However, no matter how friendly they are, it doesn't change the fact that this "attraction" is a complete waste of time and money. THE COST: We spent more than $215 on three tickets for the "scenic" dinner cruise. THE DINNER: It was a meal that would cause residents in any low-income nursing home to revolt. Served on plastic plates with plastic picnic flatware wrapped in a tiny paper napkin it was served buffet-style with a preset teeny tiny salad consisting of wilted iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, a slice of cucumber, a couple of cherry tomatoes, and a choice between two pre-packaged Ken's Salad Dressings - Ranch or Thousand Island. No croutons, no peppers, no olives, no cheese, absolutely nothing special. The "entree" consisted of shriveled up carrots, disgusting red potatoes, a piece of chicken that had a thick layer of fat and looked like it had been steaming in a crockpot all afternoon, along with a stale dinner roll that came with imitation butter packets. And for dessert? A teeny tiny slice of dry chocolate chip Bundt cake. Hint: Aldi's will sell you the same ENTIRE cake - six servings - for the bargain price of just $2.99. No coffee is served. If you want anything other than water or iced tea, be prepared to fork over $10 per drink. THE "ENTERTAINMENT:" I use this term very generously since it would clear out the absolute worst, cheesiest karaoke bar after the first three minutes of horrendous sour notes. It is nothing more than some extremely musically-challenged dude doing karaoke for two hours. Trust me when I say that, Elvis, Frank, Davey Jones, John Lennon, and many more, were all rolling over in their graves. HINT: Bring earplugs because it is 120 torturous minutes of your life that you will never get back. THE "SCENIC" BOAT TOUR: Three simple words - It's not scenic. Unless you consider floating past the back yards of a few $5M homes, even more backsides of trashy restaurants, AND a few house trailers, proudly displaying their Trump 2024 banners, don't expect to see anything that a reasonably intelligent person would consider to be "scenic." It's a boat ride up and down a canal that is no more "scenic" or interesting than a freeway exit ramp. THE LESSON: Do yourself a huge favor and take a pass on this cheesy tourist trap. Save your money, pack a picnic basket with some wine and delicious cheeses and crackers. Jump in the car, put on your favorite Spotify playlist, drive to a nature preserve, and enjoy your delicious cheese in a truly scenic, natural setting.

Hi Sherri, Thank you for your thorough review. We are so disappointed that you had such a terrible time. We truly give it our all every single day to provide a great experience for our guests. I did want to take a moment to address some of your concerns. Unfortunately, post covid, we had to make many tough decisions to be able to provide the best experience for our guests while keeping costs down. Staffing shortages are very much still an issue which is why the dinner is buffet style. We would love to be able to serve every guest at their table but unfortunately do not have the staff or time to do that right now. With the ever-rising costs of goods and particularly food, as well as the storage space on an authentic wooden riverboat, is why we must do things a certain way. Our focus is on our customers to provide a great experience at affordable costs. I understand that everyone has an opinion and although we all enjoy our dinner, I apologize it did not meet your expectations. We are not a full-scale restaurant and do only have 2 hours with our guests which is why the salad is preset and dinner is served the way it is. Also, to keep costs down we do serve water or tea with your meal but as you mentioned, you are more than welcome to purchase additional beverages at a competitive, reasonable price if you choose to do so. We do have a full-scale bar and you can purchase drinks anywhere from $3 for sodas - $12 for specialty cocktails. I understand everyone has certain tastes when it comes to music and performers and I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy our performer that evening. The IntraCoastal Waterway is very important to not only our area but the whole East Coast. It is very scenic and has a beauty all on it’s own that we appreciate in Myrtle Beach. It is not a Sightseeing Tour but it is very much a Scenic Tour. There are so many more great sites than the pictures you posted, I’m sorry you missed that. I love your suggestion of a wine, cheese and crackers picnic as an alternative, it sounds like a great day! Again, we appreciate your feedback and are truly sorry you did not enjoy your time. However, we are glad that you enjoyed our staff! We take pride in not only our staff but our attraction as well. Have a great weekend!
Beautiful scenery, but the rest was just ok. The food was cold and the chicken was so tough that no one could eat it. Most of the plates being picked up by the staff had full pieces of chicken on them. The carrots were rubbery and the potatoes were cold. The entertainment guy basically sang karaoke the whole time. I actually thought he was a guest for a while. It would have been more enjoyable if he just played the songs like a DJ. PJ was our bartender and he was friendly and made delicious drinks. The staff were all very friendly and appeared to love working the boat. So overall, the food was not good, entertainment was not good and the staff were friendly. I would not recommend unless you simply want to enjoy the boat ride.
Tough chicken and rubbery carrots for dinner. When we left, we had to go get some dinner....

Thank you for your feedback and for cruising with us. We are sorry you did not enjoy your time with us and we will address the food and entertainment concerns immediately as we always strive to provide a great experience for our guests. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and we do hope that you will come cruise with us again another time.
It's so cold the air is on and the door is open. They have a woman who sings the whole time and she can't sing I'm about to jump overboard The sandwich ham was not enough on it I wanted to come back for dinner but I don't think so
Dec 7, 2023
Hi Anna! Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your time with us. We do have heat and air on the Riverboat. I hope you spoke with the crew and let them know you were uncomfortable with the temperature, however, we will check the temperature on the boat and make sure it is working correctly. We have 3 different performers, each are different and amazing in their own way. If you do decide to come back for dinner make sure to ask who the performer is and we will get you on a different cruise. Thank you again for your comments as we are continuously striving to be better. We appreciate you and do hope you will come onboard again! Have a great day and a very Merry Christmas!
I have only good things to say about our experience with the Barefoot Queen, and especially about the nice people who operate it. I can't quite bring myself to give it five stars, though, because it's a fairly limited experience. The boat goes up and down the intercoastal waterway, so the only real views are of some opulent homes along the shore. Not much by way of scenery or wildlife to see. We took the dinner cruise and were favorably impressed by how well organized it was. It wasn't overcrowded as cruises can sometimes be, even though our voyage was sold out. We appreciated that. We also quite appreciated that they had a well worked-out system for serving the meals; instead of everyone rushing the serving area pell-mell, people went up one table at a time to get their meals. Made it much more relaxed. The beverage service was also efficiently handled, with the bartender quite helpful and friendly. All the staff pitched in to quickly clear away tables, see if we wanted anything else, etc. Definitely give five stars for service and friendliness! There was musical entertainment on the level above us, and we were actually happy to be down below, as we're not fans of overly immersive show experiences. We were actually quite glad that the volume of the speakers transmitting the show to our level was kept at a level that we didn't have to shout over it. Again, thumbs up for consideration of guests that don't want a constant blast of loud noise. Dinner was, I'll say, fine. Wine was good, dessert (chocolate cake) unexpectedly good. Nothing wrong with the food, really, though it was pretty bland -- roast chicken, pork medallions, roast potatoes, candied carrots, a dinner roll, and a salad appetizer. Really can't complain about it, nothing wrong with it, but definitely made for people who don't like a lot of seasoning or sauces. They thoughtfully provided a vegetarian alternative also (stuffed pepper). It's just a little cruise up and down a placid waterway with mild food, musical entertainment and friendly service. Don't expect anything spectacular and you'll probably have a wonderful time. We certainly did!

Standing alone as the only riverboat tour available along the Intracoastal Waterway, the Barefoot Princess offers guests a scenic and memorable excursion. Spanning over 60 feet long and featuring three levels, the Barefoot Princess can accommodate up to 130 passengers. The lower level offers a dining room for the dinner cruises, while the second floor has a dance floor, snack bar, and an observation deck and features entertainment and narration of the tour. Both these levels are climate controlled, while the third level offers comfortable open-air seating. The cruise directors recommend purchasing tickets in advance, as they often sell out quickly.
