46m luxury motor yacht METEOR was built in 2018 by Turkish builder Mural, and also features both interior and exterior design by the shipyard. She features plenty of sunbathing spots across her three decks, including a fabulous jacuzzi tub placed forward on her sun deck. Accommodation is for 10 guests, with additional capacity for a crew of 9.

Guests will be spoiled for choice on where to enjoy the sun and sights, with three spacious decks providing an abundance of outdoor living and dining areas. Both main and upper decks feature spacious areas with an assortment of loungers and couches to relax on. From the main deck, two stairwells lead down to the very generously proportioned swimming platform, which provides enough room for guests to sit and dip their toes, as well as giving easy access to water toys.

Above on the sundeck is the ultimate relaxation area. Accessed via a starboard side stairwell from the deck below, this deck hosts everything guests could want for relaxing and dining under in the sun or under the stars. There are comfortable couches, a dining area, bar, as well as an excellent, forward-placed jacuzzi tub, which is protected by an optional bimini.

The main salon features a symmetrical, open-plan layout, with a wonderful living area placed aft which features three comfortable couches surrounding a large central coffee table. Forward is the formal dining area, which hosts a large dining table, which can easily accommodate all 10 guests. The whole area is bathed in natural light and sunshine thanks to the large windows encompassing the pace.

METEOR Specifications

The upper deck sky lounge features another excellent place to relax and socialize, with more couches and tables, as well as lovely views from the elevated position.

Her twin Cummins Inc. KTA 38M2 engines of 1200hp each provide a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

Yacht Accommodation

Accommodation is for 10 guests over 5 cabins, consisting of: 1 Owner’s cabin, 3 double cabins, and 1 twin. The luxurious Owner’s cabin is placed forward on the main deck, and enjoys the full beam of the yacht. The cabin features a large, centerline bed, a study area, seating area with couch, walk in wardrobe, as well as en-suite bathroom complete with tub. The remaining accommodation is located on the lower deck of the yacht. All cabins are extremely comfortable and feature en-suite bathrooms and wardrobes, are all accessed via a central hallway. Crew accommodation is placed forward, and sleeps 7 crew members, who will ensure guests have a wonderful stay while onboard.

Meteor - The German Royal Yachts

Note: This article handles not the 52m schooner yacht by Royal Huisman from 2007.

Meteor were the names of five German royal racing sailing yachts owned by Wilhelm II, German Emperor .

Wilhelm II (in English: William II) governed the German Empire from 1888 to 1918 and was also the King of Prussia and belonged to the  House of Hohenzollern . His grandmother was  Queen Victoria  of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Not much known: Wilhelm II was an enthusiastic yachtsman. He owned several sailing yachts and enjoyed yacht races in Germany and United Kingdom. He owned not only sailing yachts. Two of his yachts were the  H.M.S. Hohenzollern I (88 meters) and H.M.S. Hohenzollern II (120 meters).

The original name of the first  Meteor   was  Thistle . This yacht was designed by  George Lennox Watson  launched in 1887 at  D. and W. Henderson & Company  at the Clyde river in Scotland and had a length of 33.05 meters. The order was given by some members of the  Royal Clyde Yacht Club . Her Mission: Challenging the American defender yacht  Volunteer  at the 7.  America’s Cup . Unfortunately, she lost 0-2 against  Volunteer  from the  New York Yacht Club . However, she was very successful when she was back in her home waters. That’s why Wilhelm II bought the yacht because he was looking for a promising regatta yacht.

Wilhelm II wanted a faster racing yacht. He charged the yacht designer George Lennox Watson to construct the new one. The yacht was also built by D. and W. Henderson, like her predecessor. She served until 1902. This yacht was similar to H.M.Y. Brittania

1902 – new yacht, new designer and new shipyard. Not British, not German – Wilhelm II decided to the American designer Cary Smith and the American shipyard Townsend & Downey Shipbuilding Co.

Alice Roosevelt – the daughter of the U.S. president  Theodore Roosevelt  – christened the yacht. That was the beginning of the German-American sailing friendship.

In 1909  Dr. Carl Dietrich Harries  (the husband of  Werner von Siemens ‘ daughter – Hertha) bought the yacht and renamed her in  Nordstern   (North Star) and converted to cruise with her in German and Mediterranean seas.

The 27m/88'7" motor yacht 'Meteor' was built by Gamle in Denmark. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of F.G. Hansen and she was last refitted in 2008.

Range & Performance

Meteor is built with a wood hull and wood superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel Gardner (6LX) 120hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 8 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 12 knots with a range of up to 960 nautical miles from her 6,000 litre fuel tanks at 8 knots. Her water tanks store around 4,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.
