SuperYacht References, an ‘innovative new platform set to revolutionise the yacht crew recruitment process’, says it’s offering a solution to the challenges of undertaking background checks and verifying crew references.

The platform is free for crew to use. Candidates upload their details (reference contacts, professional qualifications, and identification) and then the SuperYacht References team verify their claims. This means that when a captain or agent is looking at crew profiles, they can be safe in the knowledge that each individual has undergone a thorough background check and is ready to be employed.

This process offers speed and security for the employer. Then, with each new role, crew can update their profiles and keep their documentation in one, accessible online platform.

SuperYacht References was introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show. “The Monaco show was an ideal time to showcase the platform,” says founder, Captain Mark McDowell. “Crew were finishing up the Med season and looking for new opportunities for the Caribbean season. The demands of providing seven-star service and 24/7 dedication to an elite clientele, coupled with the isolation of living and working in close proximity while being away from home and missing friends and family, can create a unique set of pressures for yacht crew, she said.

The two superyacht crew agencies have partnered with marine crew union nautilus international….

Starfish Crew and Superyacht References have joined Nautilus International ’s yacht partner programme. The initiative aims to give agencies, owners, employers and regulatory authorities the opportunity to engage in an ongoing dialogue with the crew union.

“During my yachting career, I saw it all. Unpaid salaries, vessels taking advantage of crew in any way possible, tragic accidents, breach of contract agreements. The list goes on,” says Jamila García Lillo, CEO, Starfish Crew. “My husband, a superyacht captain, has been a member [of Nautilus International] for a few years, so I know how advantageous being a member [of a union] is first-hand.”

Starfish Crew provides support, consultancy and training for crew, with a focus on Spanish-speaking vessels.

Superyacht References is a newly formed company focused on providing detailed references for crew. It supports the yacht recruitment process by checking references, confirming professional certifications, and verifying IDs.

“We look forward to working together to providing a full professional service to crew in the superyacht industry,” said Nautilus strategic organiser, Laura Molineux.
