10 Meticulously designed list of haunted places in Mussoorie

1. savoy hotel.

Savoy Hotel a most haunted place in Mussoorie

Location: Library Bazar, Gandhi Chowk, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

Mussoorie is a wonderful place to visit and is named amongst the finest hill stations in the country. On the flip side, it won’t be wrong to say that this place houses some of the most haunted places in India. And one of them is the popular and luxurious Savoy Hotel. There haven’t been any missing complaints or mishaps registered here but the hotel is one of the spookiest places in Mussoorie.

What makes it haunted?

In the year 1911, Madam Frances Garnett Orme, one of the most famous personalities of Britain in her time, visited here. She was found dead in her hotel room which was locked from the inside. It was known that she was poisoned with strychnine, a poisonous powder. What’s strange about this event was that the forensic doctor who inspected her body was also found mysteriously dead with the same powder.

What haunted happens here?

People have registered that they get a sudden, continuous, and loud bang on the door after midnight. Some also claim to have seen a woman with creepy attire walking down the hallway. People say that she is still looking for her murderer. But it completely depends on whether to believe it or not.

2. Mullingar Mansion

Mullingar Mansion a most haunted place in Mussoorie

Location: Landour Cantonment, Mussoorie

This was once a lovely place where an Irish commander lived peacefully. But after retiring from his duties, this place was turned into a barren. Is it due to the ghost of the commander? You should not find out that in person.

To start with, there are no fixed stories that the people here recite. Things keep changing but people say that Captain Young, who built this mansion didn’t leave here at all. And he committed sucide in the mansion, cursing it forever. But there are conflicting stories in the town where some state that all the ghostly activities here are just hoaxes and nothing else.

Those who are very much convinced that Mullingar Mansion is haunted have also said that they sighted a horseman who takes rounds of the mansion. He keeps it guarded as if there are some important things that he didn’t want someone to get his hands on. Whatsoever be the case, we suggest not to visit here during the night because it is amongst the spookiest places in Mussoorie.

3. Sister’s Bazaar

Sister’s Bazaar a most haunted place in Mussoorie

Location: Landour, Mussoorie

Another haunted place in Landour; is this the cursing land of Mussoorie or what? Sister’s Bazaar is amongst the most haunted places of Mussoorie. It is not a hoax because the people who live around the place strongly believe in the paranormal activities that happen here.

There is not a clear story about what has happened here. Some say that the mansion in the bazaar was the place where two British sisters were raped and dumped. Some say that it was a slaughter house where many people died. There is no clear cut story that could describe the place.

What people have claimed is that they have seen the ghost of two women at multiple places around and inside the mansion. Usually it is the trekkers who have said such things because the mansion comes in the way of a beautiful trek. But what’s true about this place is quite extraordinary.

4. Lambi Dehar Mines

Lambi Dehar Mines a most haunted place in Mussoorie

Location: Khanij Nagar, Mussoorie Range

There is a very scary and painful story about the Lambi Dehar Mines which is also amongst the eeriest places in Uttarakhand and not just Mussoorie. There is a very interesting story that people narrate to all the visitors.

The mines of this place were very popular for extracting limestone. It is said that there were approximately 50,000 workers who were mining at this place. There were no protection gears that were given to them. And the environment around here became very problematic. These people started suffocating and some of them started falling sick. It was due to the unhealthy and toxic environment that this started happening. Over time people started coughing out blood and it was then that approximately 50,000 workers died here together over a course of a few days.

People have been feeling strong negative energy around the mines. Those who visited here fell prey to some or the other mishap. The mine area is also said to have caused the deaths of many people afterward. Car accidents, truck accidents, and many other things have happened here over time. If you were to ask the locals, they would strictly ask you to stay away from this place. And that’s the reason why Lambi Dehar Mines is known to be one of the spookiest places in India.

Mussoorie Christ Church, a magnificent Gothic-style structure, holds not only religious significance but also eerie tales within its age-old walls. 9. Sisters Bazaar

Sisters Bazaar in Mussoorie is not just a charming shopping district; it’s also steeped in eerie tales. The name itself derives from a convent and school run by a group of nuns in the area. Locals and shopkeepers tell stories of encountering unexplained phenomena after sunset. It’s believed that the spirits of the nuns who once inhabited the area still linger. People have reported hearing soft footsteps, whispers, and hymns, even when no one is around.

Some have claimed to see shadowy figures of nuns in old-fashioned attire. Whether these stories stem from historical remnants or imaginative storytelling, Sisters Bazaar’s supernatural reputation adds an intriguing layer to its quaint and picturesque atmosphere.

10. Kellogg Memorial Church

The Kellogg Memorial Church in Mussoorie, dedicated to Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, the renowned physician and health reformer, is a place where devotion meets ghostly tales. This picturesque church, with its serene surroundings, is said to harbor a spectral presence. Witnesses have reported chilling encounters, like hearing disembodied voices and feeling an inexplicable presence. While the Kellogg Memorial Church stands as a place of worship and reflection, the ghostly stories associated with it add a layer of mystery to its serene beauty, attracting those who seek both spiritual solace and the supernatural.

These places have not registered any fatal cases except for the hoax created by people around here. But it is still suggested that one should stay away from such places after dark. And we too suggest that you should keep some distance from these spots. You never know what’s lurking in the dark.

Anxiously we asked more about the place. He said there are many stories about that place being haunted. More than 50,000 peoples have lost their live here in the time on British Empire he said. There was a limestone mine in old time which was functional till 1990. Mining was stopped since 1990 after an order from Supreme Court on India. As per him there is a witch who walks down from the hill and kills everyone whosoever is present in the premises of the mines. There is a second story as well as per that story there is a ghost of an army officer who was killed by her wife. His wife was cheating on him with another man and wanted to get rid of her husband. So she planned his murder with her boyfriend, one day the wife took the officer out for a walk at the mines. When the couple passed below, her lover, who was waiting for them on top of a cliff, threw a massive boulder in their direction. The wife jumped to safety because she understood what was going to happen, but the poor husband was crushed under the boulder. Although it is unknown what became of the unfaithful wife and her lover, it is thought that the spirit of the Army commander is still imprisoned in the mines and is compelled to relive his death every night for all eternity. Others claim that he is still frequently heard, night after night, sobbing in misery. They assert that he is still unsure of what took place and that the woman he cherished betrayed his confidence and killed him. He will remain in a death cycle, in accordance with local belief, unless he learns the truth, but who will reveal it to him? Who will be bold enough to bell the cat?

Haunted – Lambi Dehar Mines, Mussoorie

Mussoorie is one of the most exclusive hill stations that is located in the Uttarakhand and specifically in the Dehradun district. It is a place of utmost scenic beauty, and it comprises of the famous Lambi Dehar Mines. But did you know that this seemingly picturesque place in Mussoorie has a grim undertone to its name and is listed as one of the most haunted places in India? It also goes by the name ‘the mine of death’ and is one of the spookiest spots in entire India.

Mussoorie is one of the most visited spots by the tourists, and many people visit it just for the sake of mystery that encompasses this place. Apparently, this place has contributed to thousands of fatalities in this area, and many people say that the spirits have been hovering ever since.

The Story Behind The Haunting

The dark and grim history of the mines can be traced back to the year 1990s, when about 50,000 people and even more worked in the mine. Due to poor infrastructure at that point of time, most of the workers had a very painful death due to suffocation or getting collapsed under the rubble of the mine. After a lot of deaths occurred, the mines were shut down in order to stop the deaths, but the story does not stop right there! The locals in this place consider this spot to be haunted and have narrated many incidents which do not comply with any logical explanation. In Uttarakhand, this is one of the most ghostly and spooky places.

Many of the people have mentioned that there has been a number of fatal road accidents in this place without any perfect cause. Cars and trucks sliding off the road and helicopters crashed on the mines without any reason, and that adds to the affirmation that the spot is indeed haunted.

The locals also believe in the fact that the mines are possessed by a witch and at night her shrieks can be heard which are capable of bringing goosebumps. After dark no one hovers near the spot and the road by the mine is absolutely empty. Strange noises have been reported, and mostly those have been identified as painful cries and groaning.

If you have been looking for an adrenaline rush for long and you want your blood to run cold, then this is one of the haunted spots that you should know about. This mine stretches over a few kilometers and has a negative vibe attached to it. You are allowed to explore this place in a span of 2 hours, and there is no entry fee as such.

Exact Location

The Lambi Dehar Mines is located near Mussoorie and is placed at about 10 km away from Library Chowk. You can reach there with the help of a private car or by booking a cab as per your convenience. The distance from Dehradun is about 35 km so the journey won’t be much long. Be ready to get your blood curled!

At the Savoy, she was followed by Eva Mountstephen, a spiritualist from Lucknow.

One day, when Mountstephen had taken off to Lucknow on urgent business, Garnett-Orme was found in her room, well past rigor mortis. The door was locked from inside. Pigments of prussic acid (hydrogen cyanide) were revealed in the autopsy. Suspicions immediately fell on Mountstephen who was brought to trial before Justices Tudball and Rafiq of the Allahabad High Court on charge of tampering with the deceased’s bottle of sodium bicarbonate, thereby poisoning her.

Mountstephen was acquitted due to want of evidence, and the true circumstances of the death of Garnett-Orme were pronounced likely to be never known. In a few months, the doctor who had performed Garnett-Orme’s autopsy was also found dead, this time of strychnine poisoning.

Hmmm.. The question reminds me of the days when we would sit around the fire for 5 months of the year with nothing to do through the winters except invent ghost stories. It’s those silent winters that inspire writers such as Ruskin Bond, Ganesh Saili, Bill Atkins, Steve Alter, William Dalrymple and Virgil Meidemer to choose Mussoorie as their favourite creative hideout.

I think Agatha Christie’s murder mystery, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, which is written in the backdrop of the Savoy Hotel, somehow changed from a fiction to a history book..

Then, of course, 3rd grade news channels cashed into the story to up their TRP.

I think there is some truth to it. Read below. In particular on stormy nights or misty days. There is a deep melancholy and its eerie

The ghosts of the Savoy: The Mussoorie murder mystery that inspired Agatha Christie’s first novel

In 1911, a British spiritualist was found dead at the Savoy in her room, which was locked from inside. Her ghost is still said to haunt the property.

A file photo of the Savoy Hotel, Mussoorie. | Nick Kenrick/Flickr

An unresolved mystery at Mussoorie’s Savoy Hotel gave Agatha Christie her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920). The death of an English spinster under mysterious circumstances in one part of the British Empire led to the birth of Christie’s avuncular aesthete, Hercule Poirot, in another. But there was something very distinct about the melancholy air of Mussoorie that enabled this transmogrification.

In present-day Mussoorie, the remains of Edwardian cottages line the road from Camel’s Back Cemetery towards the Library. On either side of the vintage path lie skeletons of old bay windows, crumbling balusters, and cast iron lampposts manufactured long ago in Glasgow.

On the ruins of a school

A little ahead of Mussoorie Library, on the road to Happy Valley, lies the Savoy. The hotel was built by Cecil D Lincoln, an Irish barrister from Lucknow, on the site of Reverend Maddock’s Mussoorie School, and was completed in 1902.

Bullock carts trundled up the winding mountain roads from Dehradun to purvey to the hotel its Edwardian furnishings, Steinway pianos, billiard tables, champagne crates, cider barrels and the trunks of oak used to fashion the grand wooden floor of the hotel’s dining hall.

The Savoy’s popularity rivalled that of Mussoorie’s own Charleville hotel, Shimla’s Cecil or Lucknow’s Carlton. According to Ruskin Bond, it had “all the appurtenances of a hotel that was to become well known as the Raffles in Singapore or the Imperial in Tokyo [that] came up in these lumbering Mr. Buckle’s Bullock Cart Train”.

Locked room mystery

The germ for Christie’s novel was sown in the summer of 1911, when 49-year-old British spiritualist, Frances Garnett-Orme, arrived at the hotel. She had earlier been betrothed to a British officer from the United Provinces, who died before the wedding. The tragedy must have reinforced Garnett-Orme’s faith in séances and crystal-gazing in her attempts to communicate with the other side of life. At the Savoy, she was followed by Eva Mountstephen, a spiritualist from Lucknow

Hey, these ghost stories and all are just stories, those old world time pass around the bonfire where time was not the most precious entity. Nothing like that in reality. You can come and enjoy in one of the very best of Himalayan resorts.

haunted place mussoorie

Yes, it is true. I've stayed at the Savoy several times. On my last visit I awoke at 3am with all my room lights on, when I know I shut them off. After turning everything off, the bathroom light turned itself on twice in a row. I said loudly, "enough" and all the room lights when on. I went and sat in the lobby from 3:30am till morning and couldn't wait to check out. Hell yes there are "things" going on here..

What are the most haunted and ghost places in Russia?

10. nizhny novgorod kremlin.

The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is a fortress located in the city's center and represents the oldest historical, social, political, and artistic complex.

The Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in the Volga Federal District, as well as the Mayor and Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, have their official residences here.

It is situated at the meeting point of the Oka and Volga rivers on the right high bank. The Kremlin's northwest section descends nearly to the base of the slopes, its southeast section leads to Minin and Pozharsky Square, and its southwest section rises above the People's Unity Square and the deep Pochainsky ravine.

There is a story that the builders of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin were unable to complete one of the towers. It continued to fall. Ultimately, they chose to offer a sacrifice and erect the tower using the blood of the first passerby. It turned out to be a pregnant lady rushing to get water from the river. Captured, she was bricked up alive inside the tower. Since then, the ghost of a pale woman carrying a baby has been seen close by.

9. Griboyedov Canal in St. Petersburg

This canal is small and winding, running through the heart of St. Petersburg between the Fontanka and Moyka Rivers, running parallel to them for the majority of its length. Despite being shorter than six kilometers, the canal is crossed by over 21 bridges, many of which are pedestrian. The Obvodny Canal has the most bridges—24—among all of them. The five-kilometer canal embankment offers a wide view of St. Petersburg's architecture spanning centuries and architectural styles, from opulent palaces and cathedrals to modest tenements from the early 20th century. The canal is also well-known for being the scene of one of the most well-known terrorist attacks of the 19th century, where Russian Emperor Alexander II was assassinated by anarchist revolutionaries.

The Griboedov Canal was constructed parallel to the small Krivusha River, which flowed through this area long before St. Petersburg was built. In the 1730s, houses for Navy Department workers were constructed on the river's right bank. The Krivusha River channel was linked to the Moyka in 1737. The Court Stables' homes and barns were situated along the newly named Konyushennaya channel. Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli constructed a mansion for General Villebois at the intersection of Nevsky Prospekt and the canal between 1759 and 1761. The best masquerades and balls in the city were hosted here in the 1820s and 1830s by millionaire Baron Vasily Engelhardt; today, chamber music concerts take place in the Maly (Small) Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia.

The ghost of a small child is visible in St. Petersburg near the Griboyedov Canal on a misty night in March. She has a large scarlet mark on her neck from a rope, and her face is blue from asphyxiation. This is the renowned revolutionary Sophia Perovskaya, who was hanged for her actions after killing Tsar Alexander II. It is ill luck to encounter this ghost, which could endanger the lives of nighttime pedestrians.

8. Tower of the old hospital in Ryazan

Among the high-rise modern buildings at 15 Gorky Street in Ryazan is an old tower – all that remains of the old hospital. At night, a lonely dark figure can be seen walking in this tower. This is the ghost of Alexander Smitten, who administered the hospital more than a century ago.

7. Mikhailovsky Castle

In addition to being a striking example of unique architecture in St. Petersburg, the Mikhailovsky Castle silently observed a number of intriguing events during the brief reign of Emperor Paul I, son of Catherine the Great. In order to take the Russian Imperial throne, Catherine deposed her husband Peter III. She ruled Russia until her passing in 1796. By that time, her 42-year-old son Paul was expected to have inherited his mother's position of authority. However, Paul lived in constant fear of being assassinated because neither the nobility nor the royal guards liked or respected him. He gave the order to have a fortified palace—a castle encircled by deep ditches—built for him in order to allay these worries. A legend states that one of the soldiers stationed at the construction site had a vision of Archangel Michael standing next to him, watching over the castle. After the Emperor was informed of this, the castle was renamed Mikhailovsky (St. Michael's).

Two factors make the Mikhailovsky Castle well-known: First of all, it is the only castle in St. Petersburg, and secondly, tsar Pavel I, the most well-known ghost in the city, resides there. He took the initiative to have the castle built, and once it was finished, he made it his haven. A group of inebriated soldiers killed Pavel, with the intention of apprehending him to allow his son to succeed to the throne. He ruled for precisely four years, four months, and four days, and he spent just forty days in his castle. His life was also filled with great fortune. Legend has it that he can be seen playing his favorite instrument, the violin, out of a specific window in the castle.

There is a house that dates back to the end of the 18th century located at the intersection of Gorokhovaya Str and the Fontanka embankment. It's just your average St. Petersburg building, but

The Rotunda, the city's most enigmatic location, is located here.

The structure is circular and has six free-standing columns. The lines of the stairs, reaching infinitely upward, are repeated in the bends of the walls.

The rise of informal Soviet youth movements and subcultures, such as rockers, hippies, and punks, in the 1970s and 1980s gave rise to the Rotunda's cult status.

This place is the subject of numerous legends. For instance, wishes and dreams inscribed on the Rotunda's walls might come true. But there are other legends as well. Since the Rotunda is situated where the St. Petersburg hexagon's meridians converge, someone has dubbed this location the universe's center.

Another legend concerns a young man who entered the parallel world through the house's basement and stayed there for roughly fifteen minutes. Upon his return, he appeared to be elderly.

Many people think that you can meet Satan here at midnight. The Rotunda was a gathering place for Freemasons during the Russian Empire. It was also Grigory Rasputin's favorite location.

5. Obvodny Canal

Obvodny Canal had functioned as a city boundary at one point. The suburbs were on one bank of the Obvodny Canal during the 19th century, while the Fontanka served as the city boundary during the 18th century. Even though the city boundary has moved forward considerably since then, Obvodny Canal's appearance has evolved over the previous century, and the term "city outskirts" has acquired new meaning, it still has a certain "uptownish" quality. The Obvodny Canal is not only a hydrotechnical marvel of unparalleled quality for its era and a crucial waterway connecting the port to the upper Neva; it is also an integral element of the city's artistic identity, sharing equal significance with Nevsky Prospekt in terms of cultural significance. Without the Obvodny Canal, St. Petersburg's image would be lacking, at the very least. St Petersburg had always offered a contrast between two images: the industrial, noisy, smoggy, and disheveled, and the solemn, official, and beautiful. But together, the two likenesses made up the singular whole, which was the Russian Empire's capital. The growth of the city had been impacted by these two likenesses.

At eight kilometers, the Obvodny Canal is the longest artificial waterway in St. Petersburg. Currently, the canal acts as a temporary wall dividing the city's southern industrial district. Numerous structures along the Obvodny Canal, including industrial and civil buildings, bridges, and support walls, have significant historic and architectural significance. Like Nevsky Prospekt, Kolomna, and Vasilyevsky Island, the current architectural environment along the canal shores is very unique and an integral part of St. Petersburg.

The longest man-made canal in St. Petersburg, the Obvodny Canal, was formerly the city's southern border. It is not very deep, but it has been the site of numerous successful suicide attempts. The people who have been spared have stated that they didn't intend to end their lives. They were just driven to act by an intense force. Some claim it's the result of the restless spirits in the company that craves canals. If you choose to go, keep your distance from the water.

4. Northern Crown – The Stranded 5-Star Hotel

After the magnificent project was shelved almost twenty years ago, this crumbling five-star hotel is empty when it should be teeming with affluent vacationers and corporate executives.

There is an eerie silence in the corridors of the Northern Crown Hotel, which should have been a grand lobby, despite its 247 rooms having never been slept in.

When work on the opulent hotel started in the Russian city of St. Petersburg in 1988, it was expected to become a popular tourist attraction.

But in 1995, with the building 90% finished, laborers at the hotel stopped working because a bank that was funding the project was having financial difficulties.

Even though there have been multiple attempts to restart construction, the incomplete hotel was instead abandoned and is soon to be demolished.

After the Soviet government commissioned the project, the company Monteksgroeksport, based in what was then Yugoslavia, started construction on the hotel in the late 1980s.

However, fate had other ideas because the project's construction was nearly finished when funding was suddenly cut off. After that, this magnificent hotel was destroyed and never had the chance to welcome any guests, turning into an abandoned location. Many residents also think that the unfortunate incident has something to do with the passing of St. Pete's Metropolitan Ioann. He passed away in Northern Crown at a celebration marking Bank St. Petersburg's 50th birthday. The rooms still have the same opulent appearance as before, but the building is beyond repair at this time.

3. Mirny Diamond Mine

The Mir mine, also known as the Mirny mine, is an open pit diamond mine situated in the Siberian region of eastern Russia's Mirny, Sakha Republic. The mine is one of the biggest excavated holes in the world, measuring 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) in diameter and more than 525 meters (1,722 feet) deep—the fourth deepest in the world.

1957 saw the start of open-pit mining, which ended in 2001. It has been in operation as an underground diamond mine since 2009.

On June 13, 1955, Soviet geologists Yuri Khabardin, Ekaterina Elagina, and Viktor Avdeenko made the discovery of the diamond-bearing deposits while on the massive Amakinsky Expedition in Yakut ASSR. They discovered remnants of kimberlite, a volcanic rock typically linked to diamonds. This discovery marked the second successful attempt to find kimberlite in Russia following a string of unsuccessful expeditions in the 1940s and 1950s. (The Zarnitsa mine in 1954 was the first.) Khabardin received the Lenin Prize, one of the greatest honors in the Soviet Union, in 1957 in recognition of this discovery.

Are you someone who would like to visit a place like this and is intrigued by the mysteries surrounding the Bermuda Triangle? If so, you really ought to visit the Mirny Diamond Mine at least once in your lifetime in order to see something truly remarkable. This location used to be known for producing the greatest quantity of valuable Russian diamonds, which provided employment and income for the Russian people. The bustling metropolis that encircled this massive mine was once home to a large population of contented people.

There is currently no scientific explanation for why every helicopter that flies over this hole gets sucked into it, despite the fact that this abandoned mine is closed. Isn't that odd for a diamond mine? So, if you're looking to visit some of the most well-known scary locations in Russia, make sure to stop by and discover the mystery surrounding this location.

2. The Kusovnikov House in Moscow

House No. 17, located on Myasnitskaya Street in Central Moscow, was formerly the home of the extremely avaricious Pyotr and Sofya in the 19th century. They used to conceal their money in odd and strange locations because they were also highly suspicious of whether it was safe.

They adopted this tactic to ensure that no one would steal their money, but they were unaware that it would eventually lead to their own demise. It is said that one terrible night, the caregiver unintentionally set fire to their concealed cash in the fireplace, and they instantly passed away from shock. Since then, a number of people have reported seeing the ghost of an elderly man with a humped body on the nearby street who they believe to be Pyotr Kusovnikov, lamenting the loss of his money. Therefore, if you intend to stroll down this street at night, be sure to reconsider your plans before running into him.

1. The Maternity Hospital

It was erected on the grounds of the hospital meant to house the soldiers from the 1812 Patriot War. Following its conversion to a maternity hospital in the latter half of the 20th century, it was shut down in 2009 for renovations. The hospital's central heating system is still in relatively good condition, which is quite surprising given how long the building has been abandoned. It appears like the torture chamber from a horror film, which is one of the reasons it is listed among Russia's most haunted locations.

For a considerable amount of time, the Maternity hospital has been a popular tourist destination. Many eager bloggers visit this location frequently to learn the story behind the building's peculiarities. The fact that many pregnant Russian women wish to give birth in this specific hospital only serves to heighten the strangeness of this place. For individuals who have an inclination towards eerie hospitals and their eerie hallways, this is the ideal location.

Went there with a friend of mine on a warm summer evening. Had a very nice dinner on their roof-top terrace that overlooks a nice neighborhood with many trees. The service was attentive, food nice, but quite pricey - most seafood is by the 100 grams, and langoustines can weigh quite a bit as we learned. It is a place for the Moscow in-crowd, lots of big cars and their chauffeurs waiting outside. Worth a visit especially on warm sunny days, but if your focus is on food, not ambience, then there a less pricey options around.

haunted place mussoorie

We've ended up there a few times by now. The menu never disappoints and we've been getting delicious dishes every time. Furthermore, they have a good wine selection which is overall well-fitting with the food on the menu. the atmosphere is cozy albeit a bit formal. The main problem however is CIGARETTE SMOKE. It's an issue across the board in Moscow, but in this place it's especially bad. Poor ventilation system can ruin which is otherwise a fantastic culinary experience.

Aist Cafe is a great place to visit any time of the year. However if you go in the summer time you can eat outside on the ground floor patio, inside in the relaxed cafe style area, first floor with a more traditional restaurant lay out and watch the chefs at work or on the roof patio. The food is generally international leaning towards Italian due to the chef's origins. Fish courses are particularly good with fresh catch each day. The young staff are generally attentive and most speak some English. Though I did once witness the owner, Arkady Novikov cracking the whip on his staff. He does set high standards. All menus are Russian/English so finger pointing is no problem with the waiters for your choice! A good wine list though not unexpected prices are steep though there is normally a good South African or even a classy Graves under GBP100! After many visits I usually lean towards fish courses but this is purely down to taste. Expensive? Yes but the quality of food is good and generally the staff very helpful. If you want to be brave try ordering their specially brewed ginger tea it is addictive!

Went to Aist cafe a few times during my one week stay in Moscow. Excellent food. Sunday brunch was very delicious as well as the usual dinner menu. VERY nice and friendly staff. A friend of mine who doesn't speak any Russian was able to order in English and surprisingly got the right order. Considering how rude the crowd can be at other places it is impressive that these folks stay so chill and helpful. Interior decor is classy and cozy. Loved it so much especially the roof top. Highly recommend this place to both locals and visitors. I was impressed.
