Westport motor yacht Three Sons sold

The 39.62 metre Westport motor yacht Three Sons , listed for sale by Atlantic Yacht & Ship , has been sold with the buyer introduced by Bob Cury of RJC Yacht sales .

Built in GRP by US yard Westport to a design by William Garden , she was delivered in 2008 as one of the yard’s 130’ models. Accommodation in an elegant mahogany interior is for up to 10 guests in five well-appointed cabins. The master suite is on the main deck and has a large triple shower plus large windows giving great views. A stairway leads down to two VIP cabins with king sized beds and two twins, all with full en suite bathroom facilities.

The aft deck is the most spacious in its class, featuring a large round table for casual al fresco dining, an aft settee, occasional chairs and a functional service bar. A large party can be hosted on this aft deck and not feel crowded. Entrance to the main saloon is through double stainless steel and glass doors. There is a large L-shaped sofa to port with two occasional chairs and an ottoman. The saloon windows are very large, offering panoramic views while relaxing in front of the entertainment system or at the games table on the starboard side. The formal dining area is located in the forward part of the saloon and accommodates 10 guests.

The upper aft deck features a large L-shaped settee and table to port, a built-in television screen and an overhead customized awning supported by carbon fibre poles. Going forward from the upper aft deck is the sky lounge with large windows, an office, day head, wet bar, fireplace, L-shaped sofa and several occasional chairs.

In 2019, she underwent a major refit including a full paint job, new teak decks, new vessel monitoring systems and an A/V upgrade. The galley has been fully refitted with state-of-the-art appliances and the original settee layout has been converted to a stewardess pantry with a sink, refrigerator, bar and storage. She is powered by two 2,735hp MTU diesel engines and is fitted with Naiad at anchor stabilizers.

Three Sons was asking $10,500,000.

We are Tracy and Bob Oliveira from Dartmouth, MA. We have three wonderful sons: Zachary, Jacob, and Cory; thus the name for our boat. As we closed out our careers and our boys crafted their own, we decided we needed something to do with our time. After working our way up from an 18′ center console, we arrived at the Three Sons, a 1990 Grand Banks Motoryacht.  It was the perfect fit for us as it provides lots of space to live comfortably for long periods of time, and also accommodates our boys and other guests along the way. Being a 32+ year old boat, it also provides us with endless projects to occupy our free time as we travel.

Our plans are inspired for our desire for warm weather, spontaneous fun, exploring new places and adventure of new experiences. A goal is to complete the Great Loop but we traveled down the East Coast in the fall of 2022 calling it our “practice run.” We migrated back North in the spring of 2023 and spent the summer in Massachusetts with family and friends. Now, the fall 2023 we are once again traveling down the East Coast, planning to stop at the ports we missed on our other trips. After the East Coast, our hope is to cruise over to the West Coast of Florida via Lake Okeechobee and start our Great Loop Adventure. We are looking for froward to many ‘side trips’ along the Great Loop Route the first being wintering in the Bahamas.

Sea Ray Sundancer 60 For Sale

Three Sons, a Sea Ray Sundancer 60, is listed for sale with Atlantic Yacht & Ship and has an asking price of $769,999. The 2008, 34-knot-plus express cruiser has cruising accommodations for six within its three-stateroom layout.

Three Sons is powered by twin 1,100 hp MAN V-10 diesels, which is the same propulsion setup Yachting experienced during our initial sea trial of the Sea Ray Sundancer 60.

“With the luck of the draw, winds and seas were such that running offshore would have been at best unpleasant. Even the Intracoastal Waterway was stirred up, but the 60 had no problem slicing through the chop,” Yachting previously reported . “She came up evenly on a plane with no appreciable bow rise. Her two 1,100 hp electronically controlled, common-rail MAN diesels reached maximum turns in approximately 30 seconds without hesitation or clouds of black smoke, and I recorded a maximum speed of 34.8 knots.”

Sea Ray’s Sundancer 60 has a galley-down arrangement, with the salon and helm on the main deck. With nearly 360 degrees of glass and a sunroof over the salon, there is abundant natural light. The salon has a sofa to port and a slightly shorter sofa and lounge chair to starboard abaft the dual-seat helm station. Cherrywood adds a richness to the interior vibe.

Outside, the cockpit is well laid out for alfresco meals with friends and family. Pull up loose chairs to the fixed folding table and transom bench seat to create seating for up to six. More alfresco space is at the foredeck where you’ll find a two-person sun pad, a great spot to retreat with a book to after a morning swim.

The accommodation plan includes a full-beam (16’9″) master stateroom amidships with a queen berth, en suite head as well as a built-in sofa and stowage for extended cruising. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth, a flat-screen TV and en suite head. The third guest stateroom, which can double as a crew quarters if needed, has bunk berths making it a solid fit for the kids.

The 60-footer’s hydraulic swim platform doubles as its tender stowage with removable chocks.

Other notable features on board Three Sons include Raymarine electronics with 9- and 12-inch Axiom multifunction displays, ST6002 autopilot, 240 VHF, FLIR thermal-imaging system, Bennett trim tabs with LED readout and MAN displays and controls.

“By the 1990s, Sea Ray had stretched the Sundancer concept to 63 feet. Transom-mounted Arneson surface-piercing drives kept machinery aft, optimizing interior space. The 63 was an impressive ride, but I have always felt her design was a step outside the box. While her 40-knot-plus top speed proved Sea Ray could compete in the high-performance yacht market, the boat did not seem in cadence with the Sundancer mantra. In light of this history, the 60 Sundancer shines. She achieves excellent performance without complication and carries a foot more beam than the 63.” – Yachting , April 2006

Each year, South Carolina welcomes some of the most beautiful sport-fishing boats in the world for the annual Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series. Below is a gallery of photos showcasing 29 boats in this year’s fleet. Gryphon was the winning boat for this year’s series, but each owner can be proud of their vessels when they roll into any marina in the world.

On top of that, the yacht can be easily operated by the owner or an experienced captain. “Easy to use and operate for family holidays and long cruises, but also the perfect luxury day boat to get wherever you desire and discover new places with extremely reduced cruising times,” AB said in a statement .

Seafarers will be cruising in the lap of luxury, too. With a beam of nearly 22 feet, the AB 80 offers a generous interior for its size. Starting on the main deck, the light and airy salon, described as a “loft on the sea” by AB, features doors that open directly to the aft cockpit to create a huge, indoor-outdoor entertaining space. The main deck is also home to a galley that can transform into a bar thanks to a clever opening system, AB says.

A Michigan woman was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and other crimes after prosecutors say she drunkenly smashed her SUV into a boat club that was hosting a birthday party, killing two young siblings and injuring several other people.

Marshella Chidester, 66, faces eight counts in Saturday’s tragic crash at the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Detroit, court records show.

Chidester, who has been in jail since the crash, was due in court later Tuesday, prosecutor Jeff Yorkey said.

A message seeking comment was left for Chidester’s attorney. The Detroit News reported that Chidester is a former commodore at the boat club.

The crash killed 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and her 4-year-old brother, Zayn Phillips, the sheriff’s office said. Their mother and another sibling were among the injured.

Authorities haven’t said whom the birthday party was honoring.

The boat club located off Swan Creek near Lake Erie is a membership-based organization that hosts holiday parties and other events, and provides docking space for members who own boats, according to its website. The club also advertises on social media that members can rent the clubhouse or pavilion for personal events including birthday parties.

A Hamas representative has called for an escalation across all fronts of the conflict.

Abu Ubaida, a spokesperson for the militant group's armed al Qassam Brigades, made the comment in a televised speech to mark 200 days of war.

He was cited by an Al Jazeera journalist as saying: "We call on all the masses of our nation to escalate resistance actions in all forms and on all fronts."

In further comments reported by Al Jazeera, Mr Ubaida said Hamas would continue to push for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, an end to the military operation and the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.

A legal challenge over the export of weapons from the UK to Israel for use in Gaza will be heard by the High Court this autumn.

The legal action has been brought by Palestinian human rights group Al Haq against the UK's business and trade department over its decision not to suspend licences for the export of weapons and military equpment.

Lawyers for Al Haq argued at a hearing today that the government was acting unlawfully, while a barrister representing the trade department said decisions had "at all times been lawful and, in particular, rational".

Judge Mr Justice Swift said a hearing of the legal challenge will take place in early October.

Israel has ordered new evacuations in an area of northern Gaza which it says is a "dangerous combat zone".

An Israeli army spokesperson said people are being urged to flee from the Beit Lahia area in the region's northeast.

The area lies a short distance from Beit Hanoun city, where Israeli tanks made a new incursion overnight (see more in 11.48 post).

There were also reports of shelling in the nearby city of Jabalia and district of Zeitoun.

Donald Trump has accused Joe Biden of being "no friend of Israel" in a speech attacking the current US president outside a court in New York City.

Referring to the pro-Palestinian protests taking place at universities across the US, the ex-president, Mr Trump said: "What's going on at the college level... is a disgrace and it's really on Biden.

"He has the wrong signal, he's got the wrong tone, he's got the wrong words. He doesn't know who he's backing. It's a mess," he said.

Mr Trump called Mr Biden the "worst president" in the US's history and said he was "no friend of Israel, that's for sure".

Israel's planned ground operation in Rafah is expected to last around six weeks and target areas where the military believes Hamas leaders are fighting and hiding, according to a report.

Egyptian officials told the Wall Street Journal that Israel is preparing to move civilians from the southernmost city in Gaza, where some 1.2 million Palestinians are sheltering, to nearby Khan Younis.

Earlier we reported that satellite images show a tent compound being built in Khan Younis ahead of the proposed operation (see 8.25 post).

The officials said civilians would be moved during a two or three week operation to shelters with tents, food distribution services and medical aid.

The evacuation would be carried out in coordination with the US, Egypt and other states, they told the WSJ. It's unclear when such an operation would take place.

Israel has vowed to press on with its offensive in Rafah despite pleas from several countries, including the US, for it to reconsider over the potential human toll. UK foreign secretary Lord Cameron previously said Israel should "stop and think seriously" before taking further action in Rafah.

Iran's president has warned that there could end up being "nothing left" of Israel if it were to attack Iranian territory.

In comments cited by Iranian news agency IRNA, Ebrahim Raisi said the "circumstances" would completely change in the event of an Israeli attack on Iran.

Tehran and Israel have both traded fire this month, sparking fears of an all-out war in the region.

Iran's 13 April attack was itself retaliation for a strike - attributed to Israel - on an Iranian consulate in Syria on 1 April. Israel later appeared to respond with a strike near a major air base and nuclear site in central Iran.

The claim that the IDF buried Palestinian bodies is "baseless and unfounded", it has said.

Earlier UN rights chief Volker Turk said he was "horrified" by the destruction of the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza and reports of mass graves discovered there (see post at 10.25am).

Now, the IDF has said the operation in the area of Nasser Hospital was to locate hostages and missing persons, and bodies "buried by Palestinians in the area of Nasser Hospital were examined". 

The examination was done in a "careful manner and exclusively in places where intelligence indicated the possible presence of hostages", it said.

"The examination was carried out respectfully while maintaining the dignity of the deceased. Bodies examined, which did not belong to Israeli hostages, were returned to their place," the IDF added.

Forces conducted a "precise and targeted operation" against Hamas in the Nasser Hospital area at the end of February, the IDF said.

"During the operation, about 200 terrorists who were in the hospital were apprehended, medicines intended for Israeli hostages were found undelivered and unused, and a great deal of ammunition was confiscated," it said. 

"The activity was done in a targeted manner and without harming the hospital, the patients and the medical staff."

Hezbollah says it has launched its deepest attack inside Israel since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.

The Lebanese militant group said it launched a drone attack targeting Israeli military bases north of Acre in northern Israel.

Acre lies some 20 kilometres from the Lebanon-Israel border.

The IDF said it had no information on its facilities being hit but said in a post on X that it intercepted two "suspicious aerial targets" off Israel's northern coast.

Israel earlier claimed to have killed two "key" Hezbollah militants in air attacks on southern Lebanon in the past day (see 11.13 post).

There appears to have been a development after a major blast at Iraq's Kalsu military base on Saturday. 

Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces claimed the explosion - which killed a member of the Iraqi security force that includes Iran-backed groups - was the result of an attack.

The US denied involvement and the Iraqi military launched an investigation.

Iraq's state media is now reporting that the blast was the result of an explosion in ammunition and rocket storage.

It added that no warplanes or drones had been spotted in the sky above the Babil province, where the Kalsu site is based, at the time of the explosion.

We've more now on those reports that Hamas is planning to move its main political office from Qatar after more than a decade there.

Qatar has said there is no justification to end the presence of an office for Hamas in the capital of Doha while ceasefire talks continue.

Earlier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, said he did not believe the militant group would make the move (see post at 10.53).

Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said his country was still committed to mediating hostage release and ceasefire discussions but that "frustration with attacks" on its efforts had prompted it to reassess its role.
