Praslin Dream is the name of this wonderful 8 days and 7 nights sailing trip around the Seychelles archipelago on a charming catamaran. Explore the Seychelles from the ocean and discover the most beautiful sides of the country. The ship departs every Monday from Mahé, and will take you to some of the world's best sandy beaches and most breathtaking snorkelling spots.

Activities and specials:

  • There are large sun mattresses on-board.
  • Full sets of snorkelling equipment are available on-board.
  • The catamaran also has two kayaks for use in shallow water, which is great fun!
  • There will be a skipper & cook/steward on-board.

Description:

Clarification of price: Prices refer to two people per night, including full board. Day 1: Mahé - St. Anne Marine Park The boat departs Mahé at the Angel Fish Marine, at Roche Caiman on Mahé. Sail to the beautiful Sainte Anne Marine Park, which is great for snorkelling. When the day draws to a close, the catamaran will drop anchor here, and you can settle down for the first night on your Seychelles cruise. Day 2: St. Anne Marine Park - Cocos Island - La Digue On day 2, continue your trip around the Sainte Anne Marine Park, including some of its great snorkelling spots. After lunch, snorkel around Cocos Island, a real 'Robinson Crusoe' affair. This island is exceptionally beautiful thanks to its shapes and colours, and its underwater scenery is equally breathtaking thanks to the plenitude of fish species. Finally, you'll anchor in front of La Digue's picturesque harbour for the night. Day 3: La Digue Rent a bike to explore this wonderful island. Ride in the shade of tall palm trees, past houses with palm-leaf roofs, small factories, pristine beaches, and shining granite boulders. You'll also find Anse Source d'Argent, perhaps the most beautiful beach in the Seychelles. In fact, La Digue is probably the most attractive of all the Seychelles islands, and this beauty is preserved thanks to the lack of cars, with bikes and ox carts serving as the main means of transportation. Once again, the catamaran will anchor in La Digue harbour. Day 4: La Digue - Cousin - Bay St. Anne (Praslin) Begin your day with a trip to Cousin Island. This island has been a nature reserve since 1968 due to its rare bird species and giant tortoise population. In the afternoon, the journey carries on to Praslin. While on Praslin, you should take a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Vallée de Mai, which is home to the world's largest coconut species, the Coco de Mer. For the night, the catamaran will anchor in Bay St. Anne. Day 5: Bay St. Anne - Grande Soeur - Curieuse or Anse Petite Cour (Praslin) Grande Soeur is made up of two steep, rocky mounds, connected by a small coconut plantation. Here, you'll enjoy a delicious beach barbeque, visit the island, and try your hand at a few different watersports. Finally, you'll spend the night either on Curieuse, or on the beach at Anse Petite Cour. Day 6: Curieuse - Saint Pierre - Anse Volbert or Anse Lazio (Praslin) Curieuse forms part of the marine national park, and is home to more than 100 giant tortoises, giving you plenty to see during your stopover. After lunch, take a trip to the small island of Saint Pierre, which is one of the Seychelles most photogenic locations. Explore the unique underwater beauty of the region, then spend the night anchored at Anse Volbert or Anse Lazio. Day 7: Anse Volbert/Anse Lazio - Mahé Go snorkelling, swimming, or try out some watersports on one of Praslin's most beautiful beaches, then head to Mahé in the afternoon for the last night of your trip. Day 8: Disembark the catamaran on Mahé in the early morning. Cruise fares include: Accommodation in double or twin cabins with private SH/WC & air conditioning. Full-board: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Beverages: one local cocktail per evening, fruit juices, soft drinks Service of the crew (skipper, cook/steward) 2 sets of linen, towels and beach towels (per person/week) Consumables for the yacht (diesel, fuel and water) Insurance for the yacht and the passengers Water sports on board : snorkeling equipment and sea kayak Not included: Transfers from/to base/harbour Mandatory destination fee: €250/person (€263/person from 06.01.2025) Beverages (except those mentioned above) Personal travel insurance Passenger personal expenses Sustainability levy for tourism

Our boat “Jamaica” was already a bit worn out and had its problems. We were a good team on board and had a great time. Translation (DE): GoogleTranslate

The yacht was a special highlight of the trip. Everything was very clean, the food was fantastic, the cook was super nice. The rest of the crew was friendly but reserved and sometimes an extra smile would have been nice. The destinations were very well chosen and there was always a place on board to be alone or to chat. A little more information before the excursions would have saved some stress. We were lucky with the weather and accordingly it was very quiet and just beautiful. Translation (DE): GoogleTranslate

Yacht Charter Praslin

Praslin island is one of the main islands of the Seychelles . It offers scenic bays with beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters , perfect for a yacht charter vacation. Praslin is home to Coco de Mer, a famous palm tree endemic to Seychelles. Praslin offers endless opportunities for exploration and adventures, but also a relaxing sailing holiday.

Find Your Ideal Yacht in Praslin Sailing Region

Sailboat

Why is Praslin Popular Among Sailors?

Praslin is said to be one of the world's most beautiful islands, and the main attraction is Valle´e de Mai , very often described as the Garden of Eden. Most of the island area is a national park with almost no roads, so it makes for a good spot to visit when taking a break from sailing on your yacht charter in Praslin . There are over 1.400 trees of Coco de Mer on the island, a palm with the largest and heaviest seeds in the world. Many legends about this palm include that Coco de Mer had healing powers.

Seychelles Praslin Black Parrot

There are six endemic palms in the country, and all of them are on Praslin Island. In addition, by chartering a boat in Praslin you can explore the area that is home to other endemic species, like their national bird, the black parrot . This island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world that you can visit when sailing Praslin, like Anse Lazio, Anse Georgette, and Cote d'Or .

Yacht Charter in Praslin Sailing Region

The main international airport is Seychelles International Airport , located on Mahe island. It offers connections to many international destinations. When you charter a yacht in Praslin, you need to fly to Praslin Island Airport from Mahe, the island's only connection. Praslin marina is the main marina on the island and offers a wide selection of sailboats and catamarans to charter. In addition, there are bareboat and skippered charter options available.

Seychelles is an ideal sailing destination year-round, but the best time to sail is during April-May or October-November. During these months, the water has excellent visibility, perfect for water activities, and you will also find ideal south-easterly winds averaging 10 to 20 knots. The period from May to September is considered the dry season.

When you decided to opt for a yacht charter in Praslin , make sure to study the sea charts carefully as there are many reefs and shallow points. Most islands have good anchorages, and some even mooring options. Keep in mind that sailing at night in the Seychelles is not allowed, so plan your Praslin sailing itinerary accordingly.

Praslin Yacht Charter

Best Places to Visit in Praslin Region

Praslin offers an untouched paradise with raw nature, tropical vegetation and sand beaches surrounded by turquoise waters to explore on your yacht charter vacation. Excellent island-hopping possibilities make this destination perfect for spending your sailing holiday, with various activity opportunities.  Charter a boat in Praslin and explore the famous Anse Volbert , the longest beach on the island, where you can enjoy water activities such as surfing, snorkeling, fishing, diving, and windsurfing. By the beach, you'll find plenty of restaurants and shops.

Seychelles Praslin Seaview

Visit La Digue , the fourth largest island and home to some of the best beaches in the world, like Anse Source d'Argent, and the former coconut and vanilla plantation, L'Union Estate. Explore the small nature reserve, which is the natural habitat of the endemic Paradise Flycatcher . There are anchorages on the southeast part of the island, on Petite Anse and Grande Anse, protected from northwest winds.

When sailing Praslin, you wouldn’t want to miss the unique opportunity to visit Curieuse , the only island besides Praslin where the Coco de Mer grows naturally. It's also part of the National Marine Park and home to hundreds of giant tortoises that regularly nest there. Gastronomy Highlights of Praslin Sailing Region

Seychellois cuisine is diverse and is a fusion of all the different cultures behind it. Since this is an island country, the most frequent dish is fish, and be sure to taste in on your Praslin sailing vacation. Fishing is a tradition that locals usually do twice a day. Rice is the most popular side dish, but they also use a lot of fruits in almost every meal.

The most popular fish meal in Seychelles, Pwason Griye , is usually prepared with red snapper or rabbit fish flavored with chili, garlic, and ginger, traditionally served with rice and sweet potatoes.

Kari Koko Zourit is an octopus curry cooked in coconut milk. There are many variations depending on the island. It is usually served with basmati rice or palm hearth salad.

Ladob Banana is a popular, a delicious healthy dessert made from bananas cooked with coconut milk flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.

Dream Yacht Charter’s Seychelles Base & Boats – a review

14 days of cruising in the Seychelles onboard Dream Yacht Charter’s own 46' Bavaria Cruiser. It was right here in the Seychelles where it all started for DYC in 2000. LOIC BONNET sure picked a hell of a spot to set up business... it's absolute paradise.

Natalie Du Buisson, current base manager at the Praslin Island base, was there to greet us as we pick up our 46′ monohull for 2 weeks of cruising. She and her husband have been living in the Seychelles for many years and she took over the base around 2022 for the covid recovery.

The strength of this base is clearly its people. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Natalie’s team of office staff and maintenance crew made the check-in a very pleasant experience.

No rush, attention to detail and personal.

We dropped our bags a little early and went for provisioning just down the road. Then did the contractual office stuff, handed over money and onwards onto the yacht for the boat brief.

A thorough induction to all the boat systems, including the rigging, followed.

Gilbert gave a great sail brief, highlighting areas to visit and avoid as well as personal tips from experience. Clearly he has been out on these waters a few times before.

In context, we booked in the off-season, so things were very quiet. So much so that we literally felt as if we had the whole island to ourselves. I can see things getting more ‘compact’ as the season ramps up, but these island folk just don’t seem to stress. Good for the blood pressure.

The “marina” is not the place you want to spend your first night, especially with a South Easterly breeze. The swell rolls right in through a haphazard breakwater, boats going up and down and rubbing on each other’s fenders, straining on their lines…. the gelcoat tells the story.

Natalie had no problems with us leaving the same day, sailing about 1 hour around the corner to a nice, calm bay for the night. Just no night sailing! You’d be crazy with all these reefs around.

A impressive first impression...

This article is focusing on the DYC’s Seychelle base and the state of their boats. I will write another article about the places we visited as there are just so many great things to highlight… this is by far the most amazing location I have ever been to.

The base seems equally impressive. Literally, as I pre-wrote this article, a crew got dispatched in relation to a comment I made about a dubious swimming ladder, something I mentioned to Natalie in a WhatsApp message only 2 hrs earlier.

And we only had 2 nights to go so it could have been fixed back at port…. impressive. Base manager of the year award? Davor, your got competition here.

During our trip, we came across a young couple who own the Lagoon 39 “SEBON’ which started in the original Dreameazy Program, same as our contract.

11 months ago, their contract finished and Franz & Nadine ( https://www.instagram.com/ourdays.de ) did their phase out here in the Seychelles under the stewardship of Natalie.

The owners focused on the big things like corroded emergency tiller system or original sized chart plotter, not every scratch or dent in the kitchen or floor.

According to Franz, DYC went into great detail with this phase out, exceeding expectations. Franz & Nadine returned to the Seychelles after about 3 weeks and 90% of the work done. They stayed on the boat for 2 more weeks, test sailed and took possession thereafter. Seems to me like a good example of how working together as a team can go a long way towards a positive outcome.

The 46' Bavaria Cruiser ...

We chartered a 46′ Bavaria Cruiser. After our very recent trip in the BVI ( Sailing in the BVI with DYC ), I was ready to change this booking to a catamaran, but unfortunately, there weren’t any boats in my category available.

dream yacht charter praslin dream

In its defence, the Bavarian is a brilliant boat, well laid out and comfortable to sail. You sit a little lower in the cockpit compared to the 51.9 Sun Odyssey we had in the BVI, so the forward view whilst seated isn’t as good. But the cockpit space is well organized, winches all in the right positions and loads of room in the main cabin. The rear 2 double cabins have plenty of headroom, the 2 forwards cabins are admittedly a little smaller. But there were only 4 of us at a time, so space galore.

No air conditioning or generator though…and it was hot, very hot, at times. I guess I should have read the fine print, though none of the mono’s here have AC. Ventilation in the rear cabins is marginal at best, let alone with dodger up.

“BIZET” is a DYC owned unit. Delivered in 2017, she has seen a few miles and had various refits done to the cabinetry as you can see in the photos. It really is a design fault, because if you leave the small hatches in the side windows open, all the runoff from the roof goes right into the cabin… onto the cupboards. And as we know, it usually rains when you are on the beach.

dream yacht charter praslin dream

There were a few small items that needed attention, like “auto opening” doors when under sail or misinformation on the gauges as to how much water was in what tank, though one of it was operationally significant. And then there is the old issue of onboard power. Whilst having 5 house batteries, you still needed to run the engine 3 times a day for at least an hour to keep up with the fridges. Couple of solar panels on top of the brand-new Bimini could have fixed that…. or a decent sized alternator.

The rigging was in top shape, all lines were new, and the sails did their job well, we are not racing here.

“BIZET” came with a decent sized tender for 4 people, propelled by a 5hp 2stroke which got on the plane if you were alone. Amazing.

Finally, the galley was well stocked with gear to cook with, an electric cool-box style fridge as well as a smallish under benchtop fridge-freezer took care of the drinks and loads of cupboard space for food and bottled water.

This was a well looked after charter yacht that did not disappoint throughout the trip. All boats have some issues.

Click HERE for the full gallery of images, showing Bizet’s interior

Back to base ...

When we returned the yacht, there was a debrief onboard where I shared with the maintenance staff issues I found with the boat, most of which I already emailed to Natalie previously.

The dock was a hive of activity, presenting me with an opportunity to look over some other boats including one that is currently going through the phase out to be sold.

The old Lagoon seen happier days on the outside for sure, the gelcoat and paint work looked shocking. Though work was progressing well on the interior.

Downstairs was actually still looking in pretty good shape even before some restoration work. I saw a new fridge being installed and was told by the lads that she is a solid cat.

I also looked at another owner’s 2020 Bali 4.5, which he asked me to and DYC agreed with.

ARCADIA looked in great shape and appears well maintained, apart from the anchor winch. That looked like a sad, in need of some further finishing up. I have linked photos of that boat HERE .

dream yacht charter praslin dream

I mentioned earlier that the dock is pretty unprotected, especially South Easterly winds. “Dock-talk” confirm this. There was gelcoat damage evident on almost every boat and the guys are having a hard time keeping up placing fenders, amongst all their other jobs.

There are a few moorings nearby which are used by DYC, and things seem a lot smoother for those boats. Apparently the boats are mainly brought on the dock for servicing, prepping and boarding.

I understand that Praslin is a long way from anywhere, parts take a long time to get there, then wrong part arrive etc etc. So the yard has to make do with what they have to keep the boats operational, but a cheap fix looks just like what they are… cheap. And if you are renting a €8000+ per week boat, you want it to look shiny.

There was a sister-ship to the Bavaria we rented and it had damage to the rear swimming platform, probably because someone back her into a dock. Whilst being fixed, the strip of teak deck on top, where you sit on whilst sailing, was replaced with what looked like plywood and a rough gelcoat.

Functional? Yes. Appealing? Far from it. I asked why: ‘the material wasn’t available here’.

To put things into context: I have seen boats from other operators and talked to clients onboard these boats. None of the above mentioned here is exclusive to DYC.

But that shouldn’t stop DYC from striving to be better. This base certainly seem to have the people willing to go the extra mile who are proud of doing their job to the best of their abilities.

A great thank you to Praslin Base ...

dream yacht charter praslin dream

I would like to close this article by thanking all the staff on Praslin Base, particularly Natalie, for their welcoming and open attitude.

I was particularly please to note that some of my suggestions made in a previous article on my BVI experience have clearly been heard and considered. It sure made this holiday a completely different experience all round.

Well done DYC…. Thailand next week

Yacht charter Praslin

Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles after Mahé . Propeller planes fly here from Mahé, where the international airport of the Seychelles is located, or one takes ferries from Victoria. The port of departure is the large Sainte Anne Bay on the east side of the island. Around Praslin are the islands of La Digue, Curieuse, Aride, Cousin and Petite and Grand Soeur.

The beaches of Anse Kerlan and Anse Lazio are among the most beautiful sandy beaches in the world. Besides the beaches and the underwater world, the Vallée de Mai in the interior of the island is a highlight of the island. The valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to endemic species such as the Seychelles palm Coco de Mer and rare bird species as well as flying foxes and chameleons. Curieuse once served as a place of exile for lepers, but today it is known as home to more than 100 giant tortoises that can be observed up close. At the Doctor's House, exhibits provide information about the island's past as a leper colony. On the east side you can anchor in Baie Laraie and on the south side in Anse St. Jose or moor at buoys. For snorkeling, a side trip to St. Pierre is worthwhile.

The island La Digue in the east of Praslin is one of the highlights of a Seychelles vacation. The beaches and coastline of the island are those of our longing images of the archipelago. Anchor off the port of La Passe and explore the island by bicycle. A coral reef runs around the island, so snorkeling and diving are worthwhile in front of each beach. For strength, return to one of the island's many small inns. In the south lies the famous palm-fringed beach Anse Source d'Argent, which is framed by sculpture-like granite rocks. To visit it, you have to pay an entrance fee.

A small marine park and a popular snorkeling spot are the three small Coco-Islands . For a fee, it is also allowed to relax on the island of Grande Soeur on other dream beaches.

Some of the rarest bird species in the world can be seen in the Seychelles. Cousin Island belongs to a bird conservation organization and Aride is also a bird paradise. Accordingly, a visit to either island requires pre-registration with the local conservation station and, to prevent the introduction of alien species, visitors are picked up by dinghy and taken to the island accompanied by a ranger.

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (“ Terms ”) CAREFULLY AS THEY CONTAIN IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, REMEDIES AND OBLIGATIONS AS WELL AS A SECTION GOVERNING THE JURISDICTION AND VENUE OF DISPUTES. THESE TERMS ALSO CONTAIN A LEGALLY BINDING RELEASE, WAIVER OF LIABILITY, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. By creating a username, a login, clicking submit, using the services of Charter Experts, LLC d/b/a Virgin Island Sailing® (“ Broker ) or by accessing Broker’s website, you agree that you have read, and acknowledge your acceptance of these Terms. The Terms are subject to change at any time without notice at Broker’s sole discretion. Additionally, any transaction for which you have made payment shall be governed by the form of Terms in effect at the time of such payment notwithstanding any subsequent changes hereto.

If you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring a Charter (as that term is defined in Section 1 below) for more than just yourself, all references below to “Charterer” or “you” (and derivations thereof) shall be read to mean you on behalf of yourself and each individual within your group for whom you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring Charter.

These Terms shall be read together and construed, to the fullest extent possible, to be in concert with any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer. To the extent they cannot be so construed, then in the event of any direct conflict between these Terms and any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer (including but not limited to the agreement executed by Charterer for a Charter Reservation (as that term is defined in Section 1 below), these Terms shall prevail.

  • Prepaid Charter Reservations . Typically, Broker negotiates charter rates in advance with the yacht owner or charter company (“ Charter Provider ”) to obtain cost-effective rates, and facilitate reservations and availability for yacht charters, excursions and travel (the “ Charter ”). Broker also provides services to you by facilitating the booking of reservations for consideration and receives a commission from the Charter Provider (the “ Broker Fee ”). The Broker Fee is included in the pre-negotiated Charter rate provided to you, plus taxes and other fees where applicable. You agree that your payment is for the total amount set forth in the applicable Charter agreement (which Charter Provider may refer to as a Charter Contract, Charter Agreement, Booking Terms & Conditions, Instructions and Terms for Accommodations, as well as other derivations) provided to you by Broker (“ Charter Agreement ”). Upon execution of the Charter Agreement and receipt of the applicable deposit, you will have made a reservation for the Charter that authorizes Broker to facilitate the Charter on your behalf (“Charter Reservation”), including making payment arrangements with the Charter Provider. You further agree that Broker is a third-party beneficiary to the Charter Agreement and shall have the right to enforce such agreement to the extent it deems such enforcement necessary or advisable to protect its rights hereunder or under the Charter Agreement.

Broker retains the Broker Fee as compensation in arranging your Charter Reservation. The Broker Fee varies based on the amount and type of Charter and/or services provided by Broker.  By making a Charter Reservation, you accept and agree to the relevant cancellation and no-show policy of the Charter Provider set forth in the Charter Agreement. Cancellation and no-show policies vary for each Charter. Carefully read the Charter Agreement and additional information provided to you by Broker. It is expressly agreed by Charterer that the Broker Fee is earned at the time the Charter Reservation is made. Late payment, wrong credit card or debit card details, invalid credit or debit cards, or insufficient funds are for your own risk and account, and you will not be entitled to any refund of any prepaid amount unless the Charter Provider expressly agrees otherwise under the Charter Agreement or in some other signed writing.

  • Charter Rules and Restrictions . Additional terms and agreements will apply to your Charter Reservation and any purchase or rental of equipment or other items, supplies, provisions and travel you may select. Please read those additional terms carefully. In particular, if you have purchased airfare, please ensure that you read the full terms and conditions of carriage issued by the supplier. You agree to abide by the terms of purchase imposed by any supplier with whom you elect to deal, including but not limited to payment of all amounts when due and compliance with the supplier’s rules and restrictions regarding availability, charges, fares, and use of products and services.
  • Payment . All payments must be made by personal check, bank/wire transfer, ACH payment and/or with a major credit card unless otherwise expressly stated. The total price for the Charter Reservation will be billed in U.S. Dollars unless otherwise stated. Some banks and credit card companies impose fees for international transactions. If you are making a reservation from outside of the United States on a US credit card, your bank may convert the payment amount to your local currency and charge you a conversion fee. This means the amount listed on your credit or bank card statement may be in your local currency and therefore a different figure than the amount provided by Broker for the Charter Reservation. In addition, a foreign transaction fee may be assessed if the financial institution that issued your credit card is located outside of the United States. Booking international travel may be considered to be an international transaction by the financial institution or card company. The currency exchange rate and foreign transaction fee is determined solely by your financial institution on the day that it processes the transaction. If you have any questions about these fees or the exchange rate applied to your booking, please contact your financial institution. Broker shall not be liable to you for any such service, conversion, or exchange fee.

Broker expressly reserves the right to cancel your Charter Reservation if full payment is not timely received as set forth in the Charter Agreement.

  • Cancellation and Rescheduling . You may cancel or change your Charter Reservation as set forth in the Charter Agreement by and among you, the Charter Provider and/or Broker. Please note that some Charter Providers do not permit changes to or cancellation of reservations after they are made, or after a certain date, as indicated in the Charter Agreement. You agree to abide by the terms of the Charter Agreement with respect to your Charter Reservation. Broker will not be responsible for reimbursing Charterer for any previously tendered deposits or payments by Charterer and disclaims all liability for the failure of a Charter Provider to refund or return any such funds.
  • Credit Card Transactions and Chargebacks . If for any reason, any Charter Provider is unable to provide the Charter, or any part thereof, for which you have contracted, your remedy lies against the Charter Provider, and not against Broker. However, Broker will use reasonable efforts to assist you and Charter Provider in reaching a resolution to a dispute between you and the Charter Provider. In the event that your payment has already been transferred from Broker to Charter Provider or to an escrow account, you agree that you will not seek a chargeback against Broker for such amounts transferred. You further agree to indemnify and hold Broker harmless from and against any liability, loss, damage or expense (including without limitation, reasonable attorneys’ fees) that Broker may incur in connection with chargebacks against Broker or under the Charter Agreement and your performance thereunder. If Broker incurs any costs, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, to recover any payments charged back by your credit card company or other financial institution, you agree that you will be liable for these costs. If your payment is declined for any reason, you agree to settle any amounts owed to Broker via money order, cashier’s check, personal check or bank/ACH transfer immediately.
  • Broker Responsibility . Broker makes arrangements with the Charter Provider. Broker additionally makes additional arrangements with other suppliers for the various components and other services that comprise your Charter (“Charter Suppliers”). Broker is not an agent of these Charter Providers or the Charter Suppliers (and the Charter Providers and Charter Suppliers are not agents of Broker). Broker expressly disclaims any liability for the actions or omissions of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. The Charter Providers and the Charter Suppliers reserve the right to refuse service to you at their sole discretion. Broker assumes no liability for the acts of the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers in refusing service. Broker is not responsible for schedule changes and does not offer compensation for those changes. Broker is not responsible under any circumstances for any injury or damages you may suffer, in connection with sea, air or ground transportation, hotel accommodations, or other travel or excursion services arranged by Broker.

You understand Broker is not the source or supplier of the Charter or other travel services you requested and acts solely as a broker for the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. You agree that the Charter Provider and Charter Suppliers whose names appear in the information supplied to you are those who are solely responsible for providing the Charter you purchase. You consent to and request the use of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers and agree to not hold Broker responsible should any of them: (i) fail to provide the Charter or travel services you purchased, whether or not such services are listed in the Charter Agreement or otherwise, (ii) fail to comply with any applicable law, or (iii) engage in any negligent act or omission that causes you any sort of injury, damage, delay or inconvenience.

By using Broker’s services, you waive and release any claim against Broker, its affiliated and subsidiary companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents, arising out of or in connection with any loss of or damage to property or injury to any person caused by reason of (i) any defect, negligence, or other wrongful act or omission, or any failure of performance of any kind, by any Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, or any other provider of sea, airline, hotel, ground transportation or any other travel provider connected to or otherwise associated with the Charter, (ii) any claim for inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, mental distress or other similar claim, (iii) any delayed departure, missed connection, substitute accommodation, termination of service or change in fares or rates, and (iv) overbooking, flight or other travel cancellation, lost or misconnected personal property, or any claim arising out of the air transportation portion of your travel, and (v) or any other claim arising out of or otherwise related to the Charter Agreement or services provided by the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers.

Excepting only liability that directly arises from the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Broker, you will not hold Broker responsible for any injury, damage or loss you may suffer while on a Charter, whether incurred on the Charter or in connection with any other rental, purchase, excursion or activity, regardless of the relationship of any of the foregoing with the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers.

  • Your Responsibility . Now Is the Time to Go on a Charter Sailboat Vacation — Here's Why

The charter-sailing industry is booming, and these are the operators taking adventurers to the edge of the map.

Paul Brady is the news director at Travel + Leisure and the brand's expert on cruise travel. He has been covering the travel industry for more than 15 years for outlets including Condé Nast Traveler , Skift , and The Huffington Post .

“We just had the most successful year in our history,” says Ian Pedersen, who works for the Moorings , a yacht brokerage that’s been around for 50 years. “It was just bonkers.”

Outfitters that specialize in boat rentals are seeing double-digit growth in bookings as travelers seek more rugged vacations. Many of those who go on these trips have little to no previous sailing experience, so they’re choosing to work with charter companies that can provide a qualified captain and chef.

“A lot of people come on our trips having never sailed before,” explains Dayyan Armstrong, who founded the Sailing Collective in 2012. “But most of them tell us, ‘I’ve always dreamed of doing this.’ ”

Those newcomers are also pushing operators to look beyond established cruising grounds such as the British Virgin Islands, says Dan Lockyer, the managing director of Dream Yacht Worldwide, which now has some 900 boats in more than 40 destinations.

Cruise lines are edging into the charter-yacht business, too. Ponant, the French expedition line, will this month launch the Spirit of Ponant, a 76-foot catamaran with six guest cabins. It’s available as a private charter, as well as on a per-cabin basis, for trips in the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean.

“The first time they charter, people will try it closer to home, like in the Bahamas,” Lockyer explains. “But as soon as they come back, they go, ‘What’s the furthest away you’ve got?’ ”

Armstrong, of the Sailing Collective, sees the same enthusiasm. “Every year we’re adding new itineraries,” he says. “One of our regulars is dying to do a trip in New Zealand — and we’re working on it.”

Here are four exciting destinations to consider.

Spanish Virgin Islands

Off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico, Culebra and Vieques are increasingly popular, according to Dream Yacht Worldwide. Culebra is home to Flamenco Beach, a stunning mile-long curve of golden sand, while Vieques has plenty of dive sites and a bioluminescent bay.

The six-cabin Spirit of Ponant is a new addition to the French expedition line’s fleet. After a short summer season sailing around Corsica, the catamaran will move to this Indian Ocean archipelago known for its steady winds, gorgeous beaches, and charismatic giant tortoises.

A growing number of guests booking with the Moorings are considering destinations like the Andaman Sea, Pedersen says. On a weeklong charter from the island of Phuket, it’s possible to sail to anchorages around the famed Phi Phi Islands and other hard-to-reach white-sand spots.

French Polynesia

The Sailing Collective is organizing its first two-week expedition from Tahiti to the remote Tuamotu Islands, in part because of demand from past guests, Armstrong says. The epic hands-on adventure, led by cofounder and captain Ross Beane, will include 100 hours of open-ocean sailing.

A version of this story first appeared in the July 2024 issue of Travel + Leisure under the headline "Off the Charts."

Catamaran Cruise in Seychelles

Your sailing trip

Massive granite rocks polished over eons by the relentless waves of the Indian Ocean and a stunningly beautiful scenery to enjoy.

Giant palm trees with their famous “coco de mer” nuts, and turquoise inlets fringed with lush green takamakas shading white sand beaches. This is the image we all have about the Seychelles Islands. A paradise. And deservedly so, because these islands, lying off the east coast of Africa just south of the Equator, are stunningly beautiful.

Of the 115 islands that make up the Seychelles, 41 Inner Islands embrace the oldest granite islands on earth. Another 74 islands form the low-lying coral atolls and reef islands that make up the Outer Islands. The Inner Islands, including Praslin and La Digue, are clustered around the main island, Mahe.

The Outer Islands are more remote and less touched because they’re situated beyond the Seychelles. Mahe is the southernmost main island, and is an alternative to Praslin for sailing the Inner Islands. All of these islands are well worth visiting. Read the itinerary below for our suggestions and more information about this destination.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
