Singapore Yachting Festival 2024: Presents leading yacht brands and unveils a refreshing Lifestyle Festival Market

Jan 4, 2024

With over 70 yachts on display and an abundance of F&B, entertainment, and immersive activities on offer, guests will be able to fully immerse in the distinct yachting way of living.

chinese new year food bundle

Singapore, 10 January 2024 –  Returning after a highly successful inaugural event in 2023, the Singapore Yachting Festival (SYF) will take place from 25th – 28th April 2024 at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove . The 4-day event will showcase spectacular yacht displays and stunning entertainment. With a concerted effort to showcase the full spectrum of the unique yachting lifestyle, the 2024 edition will launch a Lifestyle Festival market; visitors can expect experiential activities, pop-up lifestyle stalls, demonstrations, live music, roving entertainment and much more.

Mr Arthur Tay, SUTL Enterprise CEO and Executive Director , said, “ONE°15’s acquisition of the Singapore Yachting Festival signifies a transformative journey towards elevating our brand influence in the marine industry. With curated unique experiences, SYF aligns seamlessly with our vision to propel yachting into a lifestyle embraced by a discerning, aspirational audience.”

Yacht enthusiasts unite

As the world’s leading brands converge in Singapore, the Singapore Yachting Festival (SYF) will showcase an extensive lineup of over 70 yachts. This marks a remarkable 45% increase compared to last year. Visitors including yacht buyers and boating enthusiasts have an unrivalled opportunity to explore some of the latest models from the leading names in the industry including Sanlorenzo , Ferretti , Azimut , Princess , Fountaine Pajot and Leopard to name a few. An awards dinner produced by Yacht Style magazine, will showcase the best and the brightest in the industry.

Launch of ICOMIA Boating Industry Conference

SYF will be preceded by the inaugural ICOMIA Boating Industry Conference on 23rd & 24th April 2024. Held in partnership with International Council of Marine Associations (ICOMIA) and Singapore Boating Industry Association (SBIA) , the conference will focus on sustainability and decarbonisation of the recreational marine industry. The event will host global speakers sharing insights on industry topics, covering the latest research and innovation including propulsion systems and infrastructure development, Asia’s growing markets, and industry-driven efforts in Grow Boating . The conference will also see opportunities for networking sessions between local, regional and international trade professionals.

A Festival-Themed Concept

As one of Asia’s key hubs for yachts and superyachts, SYF plays a pivotal role in creating an event platform for world-leading yacht builders and suppliers, water-sports toys, and lifestyle brands to showcase their products for the ever-increasing appetite of Singaporeans and Asian audience.

“We are delighted to confirm our presence at the Singapore Yachting Festival 2024 with a spectacular fleet on display featuring several Asia Premieres of yacht and superyacht models as well as our portfolio of yacht services including superyacht brokerage, yacht charter and yacht management. In 2024, Simpson Marine will celebrate several major milestones including our 40th anniversary campaign that will be officially launched at the show and further deployed in Asia. Following a strong post pandemic re-activation and unexpected high levels of attendance from across Asia in 2023, our team is looking forward to yet another successful edition. We are planning something truly special for our customers this year and more details shall be unveiled in due course.” Ewa Stachurska, Simpson Marine’s Group Marketing Director.

Going beyond the typical boat show experience, SYF is set to incorporate a variety of captivating fringe events tailored for both trade and public visitors; key highlights will include wine tasting sessions, on-water demonstrations with electric surfboards and underwater scooters, private yacht tours, roving entertainers (including jugglers and face painters), and live entertainment. The newly-launched Lifestyle Festival Market will showcase an eclectic mix of pop-up retail and F&B booths, including bars and artisanal cuisine. The weekend will also incorporate a supercar display, which will see some of the hottest cars in Singapore make their way to Sentosa for an epic motor display. SYF is organised by ONE15 Events Management, a subsidiary of SUTL Enterprise , in collaboration with SG Marine Guide helmed by Wade Pearce, with an aim to bring together more boating enthusiasts, lifestyle seekers, mid-range buyers and high net worth visitors, especially the young and affluent, who are considering a yachting lifestyle.

Tickets are available online and are specially priced at S$30 nett for a single-day pass and S$55 nett for a multi-day pass, and S$150 nett for the 2-day conference pass till 31st March.

How do we kickstart the yacht event planning process?

Kickstart planning your yacht event in 4 steps:

1. Event Details: Share the type of event you're planning.

2. Know Your Guests: Provide information about your guests to help us curate an experience suitable for them.

3. Date/Time: Specify the date and time. Rates vary between weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.

4. Special Requests: Let us know if you have any special requests or preferences to further customize your event.

What is the maximum number of guests you can charter?

Commercial charters typically accommodate up to 50-55 guests due to insurance considerations. Everyone, regardless of age, is counted as a guest.

At SAILUXO, we match yachts to your event type and requirements. For larger gatherings, a creative solution can involve joining multiple yachts. However, bookings operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Therefore, we recommend securing your charter 3-4 months in advance for special occasions.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht?

Yacht charter costs vary depending on size and guest count:

Small Sized yacht: Suitable for 10 guests, prices range from $500-$1000 for 3-4 hours.

Mid-Sized yacht: Prices range between $1500-$3000.

Premium & Luxury Super yacht: Prices range between $4000-$15,000.

Please note these costs can fluctuate based on the number of guests. For the best advice, we recommend speaking with our yacht specialists.

Can I bring my own food and drinks on the yacht?

Absolutely, you're welcome to cater your own food and drinks.

However, if you prefer a hassle-free experience, SAILUXO offers premier in-house yacht catering. Our team specializes in catering to yacht events, whether it's food catering or providing a live station with a yacht chef. Trust SAILUXO to take care of all your catering needs.

Can we bring our own alcohol onboard?

Absolutely, guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol. However, please note that some yachts have specific rules regarding red wine . In case of any spillage causing stains or damage to the yacht's facilities, guests may be liable for the cleanup or repair costs.

A year-and-a-half ago, COVID-19 shook the world and irrevocably changed life as we knew it. For four of Singapore’s most established and well-loved fashion brands, survival was paramount, with jobs and livelihoods on the line. And with people staying home and not going out or into their offices, things did not look good for fashion retail.

But these labels didn’t just survive – they thrived. With much difficulty and struggle, undoubtedly, but all of them launched amazing new collections, came up with fresh offerings and look to be coming out of this bigger, better and stronger.

How did they do it? CNA Lifestyle checked in on them.

LOVE, BONITO

There’s a lot at stake for Singapore’s top fast fashion label, with five sprawling stores in major retail malls here; shops in Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia; a huge e-commerce presence; and growing influence in regional and international markets such as Philippines, China, Australia and the US.

But where many fashion brands saw empty stores and declining sales, Love, Bonito managed to increase their market share last year, in the thick of the pandemic.

Co-founder Rachel Lim said it could be attributed to their traction in several international markets, namely the US, Philippines and Hong Kong.

“We started our journey in Singapore in 2010 and have evolved into a global brand, with international businesses representing 40 per cent of our online revenue,” she said.

“This has definitely been a challenging period for us. But as our stronghold has always been in e-commerce, we are grateful to be able to consistently achieve strong month-on-month growth trends, despite many of our key markets experiencing lockdown.”

While workwear used to be our strong suit, we knew that work-from-home was here to stay, and pivoted to designing relevant home and comfort wear, which birthed our Loungewear line.

An agile approach and willingness to change the gameplan early on in the pandemic put Love, Bonito in good stead.

“We rejigged our omnichannel efforts to place more emphasis on online vs in-store outreach, and were able to navigate the supply chain process to make key decisions to tweak our categories for the second half of 2020,” said Lim.

“While workwear used to be our strong suit, we knew that work-from-home was here to stay, and pivoted to designing relevant home and comfort wear, which birthed our Loungewear line.”

A strong sense of community, loyalty and pure brand love probably helped as well. If you only had to buy a few outfits in the past year, chances are you’d purchase from a brand whose ethos resonated with you. Which is why Lim works so hard on Love, Bonito’s brand purpose.

“I knew we did not just exist to sell womenswear, but that through the brand, women would be empowered to have the confidence to become the best version of ourselves,” she told CNA Lifestyle.

“We understood our community who are now at home juggling multiple roles and continuously engage them through our LBCommunity+ loyalty programme and social media channels, to share relevant resources and knowledge platforms, helping them engage with family members or to simply destress.”

Pandemic or not, Love, Bonito is forging forward. Lim revealed they’re on an exciting trajectory and plan to invest more in new markets, which includes the US and Japan, along with new verticals within the business to further solidify their mission to empower the modern Asian women.

Also, shopping-starved fashionistas want revenge. Lim said: “As soon as restrictions were lifted, customers were heading back to the stores and we saw a spike in sales, a phenomenon industry folks would term as ‘revenge shopping’.”

THE MISSING PIECE

yacht singapore brand

From a brand that made modern cheongsams for style-conscious women during Chinese New Year to having their collections fly off the shelves at any time of the year, The Missing Piece has grown into one of Singapore’s beloved boutique fashion labels, sought after for their flattering frocks with the signature waist cut-outs.

If it weren't for the pandemic, we wouldn't have had the Home range and the swimwear and shoe line.

Pre-pandemic, their CNY collections would completely sell out. Like everyone else, the brand experienced a slowdown during the COVID-19 crisis, but owner Fock Ee-ling (who has a PhD in medical research) told us the brand has still managed steady growth the last few years.

And although plans to grow into Indonesia and hold a pop-up there were shelved, there has been no need to cut staff or close down stores.

“Early on in the pandemic, we decided to adjust our business plan and explore new areas for growth within Singapore and our current customer base instead of trying to grow in the region,” said Dr Fock.

“We started producing masks and exploring new product extensions and product lines which we wouldn't have explored otherwise. We started a TMP Home line, collaborated with Pink Salt to come up with a unique swimwear line, and developed our own shoe and accessory line.” Like all other fashion labels, which remained profitable throughout the crisis, the brand had to be agile enough to quickly pivot. And this meant tweaking designs and focusing more on everyday wear.

Even though their Chinese New Year collection earlier this year was in peril, as no one knew if we would be allowed to visit our family and friends, Dr Fock pushed on.

“We still went ahead and developed our biggest CNY collection to date, but focused more on casual pieces in more formal fabrics that were unique, comfortable and wearable even outside of CNY,” she said. “This proved to be the right decision for us.”

“This pandemic period was not wasted time,” said Dr Fock. “If it weren't for the pandemic, we wouldn't have had the Home range and the swimwear and shoe line. We are also looking forward to opening our new store at Cluny Court in August, and are building another CNY collection which we can be proud of. I would love to explore some international collaborations down the road.”

An urban resort wear label for work and play, with four retail stores and two stockists in Singapore, Yacht 21 started with physical stores in 2009 before going online in 2013 as demand for their easy-breezy holiday dresses and comfy workwear grew.

But with everyone’s travel plans cancelled for a year and a half now, founder Jarenis Ho explained that her brand had to move away from promoting travel-friendly collections meant for vacations and pivot to designing functional fuss-free pieces to help their customers adapt to changing lifestyles.

Her brand had to move away from promoting travel-friendly collections meant for vacations and pivot to designing functional fuss-free pieces to help their customers adapt to changing lifestyles.

“Our retail stores did better before COVID-19, but our online sales picked up during the pandemic. It was difficult when all our retail locations had to stay closed for months during the ‘circuit breaker’, but I’m glad we managed to pull through as a team and everyone’s jobs were saved. We put more effort into selling online and in the process, discovered different ways to promote our brand via content creation.”

Like many fashion brands, Ho acknowledged that the pandemic has changed style preferences and shopping habits, perhaps forever.

“People are more open to shopping online, and working from home has changed the way people dress for work. Restrictions on social activities have made us all cultivate new habits and lifestyles and all this is bringing about new mindsets that may be irreversible.”

ONG SHUNMUGAM

yacht singapore brand

How can a designer label specialising in statement occasion wear survive a season where there are precious few occasions to dress up for?

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And perhaps it was instinct or luck, but Priscilla Shunmugam, designer of high-end cheongsams and frocks that cost upwards of S$500, put out her homewear line called Suvarnabumi in December 2019, just before COVID-19 became a trending keyword.

yacht singapore brand

Sales of her Asian-inspired tableware were good, as lockdowns meant fewer OOTDs and more at-home culinary shots. Since then, she has launched another Suvarnabumi collection of modern rattan furniture, and a colourful series of plates and cushions called Tropicana. A more affordable and casual diffusion clothing line called OM also pushed sales, along with fun collabs.

She has launched another Suvarnabumi collection of modern rattan furniture, and a colourful series of plates and cushions called Tropicana.

The brand also had its usual Chinese New Year collections of elevated cheongsams in 2020 and this year, Shunmugam worked on the 2021 cheongsam collection in London, where she has been based for the last few years, with the pieces made in Singapore.

“At the backend, we are definitely challenged in many ways, and continue to foresee more glitches to come. Our supply chains are all impacted, logistics is a nightmare and we just can’t be as efficient as we once were,” she shared.

“But quite surprisingly, we are posting record revenue figures. The past four collections we’ve launched have all surpassed expectations. We are struggling at the back but everything is smooth sailing at the front.”

yacht singapore brand

Being disciplined with their books and maintaining a positive cash flow for many years also helped the brand stay healthy and retain staff. Despite all that, Shunmugam said: “COVID-19 threw the worst possible blow at us when we were forced to close our London store before we could even open it officially. Two years of planning and spreadsheets gone – just like that. We lost not just money, but a meaningful dream.”

The London store remains closed until the situation stabilises, and Priscilla will now be based in Singapore for the next two years, where she will run things from her by-appointment-only Atelier Ong Shunmugam at Chip Bee Gardens. Her customer base is still 90 per cent local, and 10 per cent international.

“Because my work and my life are so intricately woven, I can’t quite separate the lessons from the pandemic, but I know I’ve had to learn to let go – of things I cannot control, cannot change or cannot foresee,” she said.

“I have had the time and headspace to get back into ‘discovery mode’ again, and look around my immediate surroundings with fresh eyes. Nothing will ever be the same again – that’s probably the best lesson COVID-19 has taught me.”

It sure looks like Mark Zuckerberg is taking a brand new superyacht out to celebrate his 40th birthday

  • It seems as if Mark Zuckerberg will celebrate his 40th birthday on the  megayacht, Launchpad .
  • The yachting world has speculated for months that the Meta CEO is the owner of the vessel.
  • Now, both the boat and Zuckerberg's private jet have landed in Panama.

Insider Today

All signs point to Mark Zuckerberg celebrating his 40th birthday on what many speculate is his brand-new superyacht Launchpad .

The boating world has been buzzing about Launchpad — a 118-meter yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Feadship — for months, with rumors swirling that her owner is none other than the Meta CEO. But in the yachting world, where privacy is paramount , no party would confirm her owner.

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to Business Insider in March. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

Related stories

Representatives for Zuckerberg did not respond to requests for comment from BI.

Now there's even more evidence: The megayacht arrived in Panama on Monday, making her way there from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she's predominantly been moored since she made her maiden voyage across the Atlantic in March, according to public ship-tracking data. Wingman, the support superyacht that he is suspected to have purchased with Launchpad, made the journey with her.

Zuckerberg's plane also landed in Panama on Monday, per a private jet tracker, and if his Instagram is any indication, he was on board.

Putting two and two together — along with the many other clues linking Zuckerberg to the yacht — we can surmise that the Meta CEO is likely kicking off his new decade aboard his new toy.

Little is known about the luxury vessel, which was said to have been built for a sanctioned Russian businessman before it was handed over to the Dutch government, which served as a middleman for the purchase. Her final purchase price is unknown, but it's safe to say a yacht of that size from that shipyard would cost nine figures upfront and six figures a year to maintain.

The few photos of Launchpad available on the industry site SuperYacht Times show there appears to be a helipad and a swimming pool on her main deck.

A vessel of her size can typically sleep dozens of guests and crewmembers and likely has an expansive gym (where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu), a spa, a movie room, and a garage to fit plenty of toys like his viral hydrofoil .

Zuckerberg's name was first connected to Launchpad in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands. By March, yachting blogs like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution suggested he officially snagged the boat at a $300 million price tag. Launchpad also bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory that is commonplace for American buyers to register their ships.

We will never know for sure whose name is on her title, so unless Zuckerberg confirms he's Launchpad's owner, we will have to wait for an invitation to Zuck's birthday party to confirm.

Looking for ‘a Different Kind of Wow’: Next Level Hotel Experiences

From cooking with a Michelin-star chef to taking a chauffeured shopping spree in Singapore, hotels and resorts are offering ever-more-lavish activities for guests.

An illustration shows hotel guests involved in different experiences, clockwise from bottom left: watching a chef cook, hugging a tree, getting out of a helicopter, sitting on a couch in a field, with a masque on at a spa, and fishing.

By Amy Thomas

Heli-hiking on a remote slice of Vancouver Island in Canada. Concocting your own perfume in southern France. Planning a shoot with a New York fashion photographer.

Now that amenities like infinity pools and posh spas (rebranded as wellness centers) are practically de rigueur at upscale lodgings, many properties are trying to distinguish themselves with activities that are ever more bespoke and brag-worthy.

“All of this is part of the trend we’ve seen for a while, especially since the pandemic, when everyone wants what they want and they want everything hyper-customized to their interests and their requirements,” said Ashley Isaacs Ganz, the founder and chief executive of Artisans of Leisure , a luxury tour operator.

Indeed, said Janelle Ruhumuliza, a travel adviser with Embark Beyond , “experiences have to go further than what they were before.” She notes that social media has amplified travelers’ desire to “one-up” what others are doing online.

Hotels are feeling the urgency. “We have guests that are almost aggressive in how they want to experience something,” said Philippe Gills, who oversees the concierge team at the Langham, Chicago . “Even if it’s something that they’ve experienced before, they’re looking to do it new now, so we have to be creative.”

Next-level activities

Activities and experiences have long been part of luxury hotel offerings. But many current offerings come with extra cachet.

“We are constantly trying to find cool things for our guests to do,” said Olivier Lordonnois, who, as managing director of Aman , oversees the luxury resort company’s properties in the Americas, including its newest in New York City . That could mean an invitation to an artist’s private studio to learn about their process ($7,500) or mastering fish butchery and handcrafted sushi ($750).

The resort also partners with the camera manufacturer Leica and offers master classes, such as photography with the fashion photographer Mark de Paola, who will help guests run a true-to-life shoot that includes hair, makeup and styling. Guests photograph models at iconic New York backdrops (starting at $7,000, lunch at an Aman restaurant included).

Set in a rainforest on Vancouver Island, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge offers canyoning, horseback riding, salmon fishing and more. You can also take it to the next level and charter a helicopter to whisk you away for mountaintop adventures (650 Canadian dollars, or about $475, per person). “When you get to the top of the mountain, you’re talking to God,” said the general manager, Sarah Cruse. “I’ll send you up there with a bottle of Champagne and say, ‘Just sit down and have a chat.’”

Even resorts that offer a selection of activities included in the room rate take special pains to develop additional offerings. “Guests are paying a high room rate, so we need full programming and activities on the calendar,” said Corey Lens, the assistant general manager of Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine. That means no additional charge for forest-bathing sessions, watercolor lessons, and visits with orphaned owls, turtles and other wildlife. But you can also pay for extra sessions with a forest therapist to take you on a mindfulness hike ($85 per hour) or mixologists ($60) to level up your cocktail-making skills.

Exclusive access

Personalized experiences are something Annabel Rayer, a global communications director for IHG brands, which includes Six Senses , Regent , InterContinental and others, sees as nonnegotiable. “It’s not just the case of going for a Michelin-star meal,” she said. Our guests want to meet the chef, and they want to understand everything that’s going on.” At the InterContinental London Park Lane , that Michelin-starred chef is Theo Randall, and guests can learn from him in a kitchen master class before indulging in a four-course meal (from 185 euros, or about $200).

In France, at Carlton Cannes , a Regent hotel, guests explore the perfume capital of Grasse in a vintage Citroën 2CV and create their own fragrance with some of the world’s best perfumers (from 109 euros), and at the Regent resort on the Vietnamese island Phu Quoc, guests can get lessons from an expert sailing crew aboard a catamaran (64,000,000 Vietnamese dong, or about $2,520, for up to 12 guests).

In Chicago, the city where the architect Frank Lloyd Wright established himself, the Langham tempts guests with an intensive tour of his home, which he built for himself in 1889 in Oak Park, west of downtown.

The three-hour excursion ($1,240) includes a chauffeured ride to Oak Park, which has the highest concentration of Wright-designed houses in the world, along with a tour of Wright’s own home and studio. The experience, said Mr. Gills, of the Langham, gives guests a new perspective on someone they thought they knew. “It’s a different kind of ‘wow,’” he said.

Jesmine Hall is director of communications for Raffles Singapore . “We see a hotel being a destination for not just rest and rejuvenation,” she said, “but a setting for cultural immersion.” The hotel’s Enlightenment Retreat (from 7,800 Singapore dollars, or about $5,745) features four days of holistic treatments — including yoga, meditation, hydrotherapy herbal body wraps — along with personalized menus from the hotel’s restaurants. It also includes visits to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Intan, a private house museum devoted to Peranakan culture — a mix of local and Chinese heritage. Tea with the owner, Alvin Yapp, well known in Singapore’s cultural circles, gives it that extra insider’s feel.

Exceptional locations

Sometimes the location itself is the experience. Rather than choosing downtown San Diego when it opened a new California location three years ago, Alila Hotels and Resorts went 28 miles north to Encinitas, Calif. “It’s this little beach town that’s always been known as a surf destination, always been known as laid-back and friendly,” said Emily Teachout, director of marketing for the 130-room Alia Marea Beach resort . Through Fulcrum Surf , a top-tier surf school, guests can take a one-hour lesson ($200) on the resort’s beach. Or they can opt for a private coastal tour ($925) to scope out the best breaks, take in the local scene and get an extended lesson on different surfboards.

Other resorts make the most out of their natural environment. When Jon Borschow, 72, and his wife, Galina, 68, of San Juan, P.R., arrived at Amanpulo resort on the private Pamalican Island in the Philippines, they noticed a lot of birds. Being amateur birders, they inquired about them and were offered a tour with the resident naturalist. “I would say we saw at least 30 different species,” said Mr. Borschow, including Thai imperial pigeons and a Philippine megapode.

Personalization. Personalization. Personalization.

“Travelers really just want to be taken care of by hotels and have them provide and arrange everything,” Ms. Hall, of Raffles Singapore , said. Responding to that desire, Raffles offers a personalized shopping extravaganza, in which guests consult with a personal shopper before arrival, and then enjoy a chauffeured four-hour trip to some of Singapore’s best boutiques (from 3,900 Singapore dollars, or about $2,860, which includes two nights in a suite and breakfast).

Hotels also seize opportunities to deliver a personal touch.

When David Anderson, 78, of St. Louis, took his extended family on a trip to the Clayoquot lodge, he emailed Ms. Cruse, the general manager, in advance, sharing a bit on each of the nine family members.

“She guided us toward taking a family hike,” said Mr. Anderson, acknowledging they had been inclined to split up and do different activities. “She knew that we were working on communication as a family. We were going to pass on the hike. She really pushed us,” he said about the outing with experienced guides.

A year and a half later, Mr. Anderson still feels the effects on his family. “I can honestly say after that trip, our communication has gone to a higher level.”

What’s next

Hotel experts say that the arms race for bigger, bolder, more creative experiences will continue. “Guests are starved for something new because everything around them has been turned into an algorithm,” said Mr. Gills, who is constantly digging deeper to come up with the novel.

So, if hotels want to stay competitive, it seems that no experience is too “out there.” Not even a mountaintop chat with the gods.
