RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor training is the pinnacle of RYA Powerboat Instructor training which will increase your appeal to Training Centres and RIB charter businesses alike. With your Advanced Powerboat Instructor endorsement as well as teaching PB1 & PB2 you will be able to teach RYA Intermediate and Advanced courses as well as include Own Boat Tuition in your portfolio.
RYA Advanced Powerboat instructors can teach the following courses listed below depending on their qualifications, all the courses at Marine Power Training are coastal endorsed.
Please note only Advanced Powerboat Instructors are permitted to teach own boat tuition when away from a Training Centre.
The RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors course is designed to take experienced RYA Powerboat Instructors and train them to deliver training to experienced students wishing to improve skills levels by learning more detailed navigation by day and night as well as more in depth knowledge of IRPCS and meteorology. The instructional team on the course will revise the proven training techniques and styles you learnt as a RYA Powerboat Instructor and help you develop your existing style to improve your overall teaching ability. You will be expected to contribute to classroom discussions and deliver short teaching practices. The discussions and practices are designed to get you thinking like an Advanced Powerboat Instructor. As a Powerboat Instructor already you will be expected to be able to deliver these in a structured fashion. This course is a good opportunity to talk to other instructors and share experiences while training on The River Hamble.
On completion of the course the RYA Advanced Powerboat Trainers that have been teaching you will provide feedback and tell you straight away the outcome of the course.
Generally there are three different out comes:
Pass – This will mean once the paperwork is completed you can continue your career as a RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor
Action Plan – This is for candidates that are almost ready to teach at advanced level but need just a little more training or experience before teaching alone. This may simple mean you need to observe or assist another RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor under real conditions. Action plans are quite normal and are designed to reward you for your good work and help you in the areas that need it so don’t feel despondent if this happens to you.
Not ready to teach – This recommendation is unusual. However, if this is the opinion of your trainer the whole course will need to completed again. The best way to avoid this outcome is to be honest with yourself and only attempt the course when you have good practical experience and theory knowledge; passing a RYA Powerboat Instructors course and not teaching before attempting the RYA Advanced Instructors course will mean you will not have the appropriate teaching experience.
On successful completion of the RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructors course and after gaining a few seasons experience as an RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor you may wish to apply to the RYA to become a RYA Powerboat Trainer, which will enable you to teach the RYA Instructor courses.
A Commercial Endorsement added to your qualifications will make it more attractive to potential employers as it enables you to work on vessels that are subject to the MCA’s codes of practice. To achieve a Commercial Endorsement you must send the RYA the following documents:
Please note the course dates below can be added to if there is a demand for more courses. If you have a group of three potential RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor wishing to take the course together you may book dates to suit you.
Supporting quaker work in russia.
2018 is the 200th anniversary of when the marshes around St Petersburg began to be drained by the Quaker Daniel Wheeler. When Tsar Alexander wanted to undertake this project, he contacted the Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain with a request to send someone to oversee the work. Alexander already had friendly contacts with Quakers and trusted them to find a specialist for this purpose.
After an initial prospecting trip, in 1818 Daniel Wheeler took his wife, family and a group of workers out to St Petersburg. They settled first in the Okhta region, then at Shushary (now near Pulkovo airport). Wheeler’s work was very successful. He used modern English agricultural methods, drained a large area of marshland, and began to grow crops on it for the St Petersburg market. He also attempted to improve the life of his Russian workforce by building cottages for workers and giving them plots of land.
While in Russia, Daniel’s wife and one daughter died and were buried near the family home in Shushary. The 200th anniversary has been marked by restoring this Quaker burial ground and consecrating it.
The following news article appeared, in Russian, on 16 March 2018 here in Gorod Pushkin ( www.gorodpushkin.ru ). You can read more about Quakers in Russia here .
(This is a rough translation from Google Translate – to be replaced)
Yesterday in Shushary they consecrated the place of the restored grave of the family of Daniel Wheeler, an English Quaker, a grain merchant from Sheffield, an ameliorator. In the XIX century, Daniel Wheeler drained over a hundred thousand acres of marshes in the vicinity of St. Petersburg – in Volkovka, on Okhta, in Shushary. For his significant contribution to the amelioration of the St. Petersburg lands, Nicholas I granted a plot of land near Tsarskoye Selo under the Quaker Cemetery.
This year marks 200 years since the beginning of the draining of marshes in St. Petersburg under the guidance of an English meliorator. By this date, the family graves of the Wheelers were restored. The wife and youngest daughter of Daniel Wheeler died in Shushary and are buried there in the cemetery.
The restoration of the grave was financed by the St. Petersburg Charity Fund named after Grachy Poghosyan.
Consecrated place of burial of the Wheelers archpriest of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Shushary father Eugene. At the end of the ceremony, a reception was held in the temple complex of Shushary.
The photo of the graveyard is from the news article in Gorod Pushkin .
The Catherine Palace
#Attractions #Sightseeing #Tsarskoe Selo #Exhibitions #Museums
The Catherine Palace in Tsarskoye Selo is a Grand building designed in the style of Russian Baroque. It took more than 100 kilograms of pure gold to gild its facade!
The Palace’s Great hall and the Golden enfilade of the ceremonial halls impress visitors with luxurious decorations. Magical interiors and rare objects of arts and crafts convey the spirit of the imperial era of Elizabeth and Catherine II. The exposition of the Palace demonstrates the work of prominent architects and artists of the XVIII and XIX centuries.
The beauty of the Catherine Palace is largely the merit of three Russian empresses – Catherine I, Elizabeth I and Catherine II, who paid careful attention to the royal country residence in Tsarskoye Selo. Nowadays it is difficult to imagine that three hundred years ago, this majestic building was a modest two-story palace that was called The Stone chambers and consisted of only 16 rooms.
The Catherine Palace’s construction began in 1717 under the guidance of the architect Johann Braunstein. In 1744, according to the plan of the young architect Andrey Kvasov, the building was enlarged and connected by galleries with adjoined two-storey wings. Subsequently every new Russian ruler has been rebuilding the Catherine Palace in some way.
A radical transformation of the Palace took place during the reign of the Empress Elizabeth I in 1752. During four years the famous architect, master of the Baroque style, Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, oversaw renovation of the building and the surrounding park. He defined the main dimensions of the building, the look of facades and internal interiors.
“During four years the famous architect, master of the Baroque style, Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, oversaw renovation of the building and the surrounding park.”
It should be mentioned that during the reign of Elizabeth I the court life in Russia has become incredibly extensive and the maintenance of the Royal court and court ceremonies demanded huge amounts of money from the state budget. Rastrelli took into consideration the significance of the royal events and used all of his talents and engineering skills during the construction.
According to Rastrelli’s project, reception rooms were created on the second floor of the building. They were decorated with golden thread and arranged in the same axis making one Golden enfilade. His drawings were also used to create the Great hall (or the Bright gallery), which is the largest hall of the Catherine Palace. It was intended for official receptions and gala dinners, balls and masquerades. The area of the Great hall, which stretches along the entire building, is about 860 sq.meters.
The Catherine Palace is not as big as it seems when you look at it from the outside and can be passed with a guided tour during some 40 minutes. But why hurry? You’ll enjoy The Catherine Palace much more if arm yourself with the audio guide and turn on imagination. For example, just imagine how the Empress Elisabeth, who’s wardrobe included 15 thousand dresses, walked along these halls 300 years ago. And how strictly Catherine the Great (who used to call the Palace “whipped cream” because of its appearance) looked at the graceful curls of the local decor.
Today the Catherine Palace occupies a central place in the Palace-and-Park ensemble of Tsarskoye Selo. Its magnificent halls are visited by thousands of tourists daily with the famous Amber room (which we will surely mention later in our notes) remaining the Palace’s most popular attraction.
