From Haunted Houses to Zombies: The Most Frightening Scary Horror Games
Do you enjoy the adrenaline rush of being scared out of your wits? Are you a fan of horror movies and looking for a new way to experience fear? Look no further. In this article, we will explore some of the most terrifying scary horror games that will leave you trembling with fear. From haunted houses to zombies, these games will push your limits and keep you on the edge of your seat.
Haunted Houses: A Classic Thrill
If you’re a fan of haunted houses, then horror games that feature eerie mansions or abandoned buildings are sure to provide an exhilarating experience. One such game that comes to mind is “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.” Set in a dilapidated plantation house in rural Louisiana, this game combines atmospheric horror with intense gameplay. As you navigate through dark corridors and solve puzzles, you’ll encounter grotesque creatures and terrifying jump scares that will keep your heart pounding.
Another notable haunted house game is “Amnesia: The Dark Descent.” In this first-person survival horror game, players find themselves trapped inside an ancient castle with no memory of how they got there. With limited resources and a lurking presence that feeds on fear, this game is guaranteed to make even the bravest players feel vulnerable and terrified.
Zombies: A Never-Ending Nightmare
Zombies have been a staple in horror culture for decades, and scary horror games featuring these undead creatures are always popular among thrill-seekers. One standout title in this genre is “The Last of Us.” Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by infected humans turned into zombies, this action-adventure game blends intense combat with an emotionally gripping storyline. The realistic graphics and immersive gameplay make every encounter with the infected a heart-pounding experience.
For those seeking a more intense zombie experience, “Resident Evil 2” is a must-play. This remake of the classic survival horror game takes players back to Raccoon City, where a zombie outbreak has turned the population into flesh-eating monsters. With its atmospheric setting and relentless undead enemies, this game will keep you on your toes as you fight for survival.
Psychological Horror: A Mind-Bending Challenge
If you prefer horror games that mess with your mind, then psychological horror games are perfect for you. “Silent Hill 2” is often regarded as one of the best examples of this subgenre. As players control James Sunderland through the foggy town of Silent Hill, they unravel a deeply disturbing story filled with symbolism and psychological torment. The game’s haunting atmosphere and psychological twists will leave you questioning reality long after you’ve put down the controller.
Another mind-bending horror experience is “Layers of Fear.” In this first-person exploration game, players step into the shoes of a disturbed painter as they navigate through a constantly changing mansion. Delving into themes of madness and obsession, this game uses clever storytelling and visual trickery to create an unsettling experience that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Survival Horror: Fight or Flight
For those who enjoy intense gameplay and heart-pounding action, survival horror games provide an adrenaline-fueled experience like no other. “Outlast” is a prime example of this genre. Armed only with a camcorder, players must navigate through an abandoned psychiatric hospital filled with deranged inmates. With no means to defend yourself other than hiding or running away, every encounter becomes a tense battle for survival.
Another standout survival horror game is “Alien: Isolation.” Set fifteen years after the events of Ridley Scott’s iconic film “Alien,” players assume the role of Ellen Ripley’s daughter as she tries to survive aboard a space station infested by one relentless xenomorph. The game’s AI-driven alien enemy constantly adapts to the player’s actions, making every encounter a nerve-wracking game of cat-and-mouse.
In conclusion, if you’re a fan of being scared senseless, these scary horror games will provide an unforgettable experience. Whether you prefer haunted houses, zombies, psychological torment, or survival challenges, there is a game out there that will cater to your darkest fears. So grab your controller and prepare for a night of terror as you dive into these spine-chilling virtual worlds.

Email Verified Better than I expected!
I’ve been to many haunted houses and I always have higher expectations than the house delivers. Hudson haunted house had very unique scares and fun rooms. The price is lower than I have paid in many years so didn’t expect much. It wasn’t a long tour but it was great the whole time. Definitely recommend. Also all proceeds go to help the community, and all actors are volunteers. Very very cool.

Freaking awesome
Freaking awesome!! Second time here and the set & props get better and better every year. Went with my family and cousin’s family and we all have fun. Jam packed with immaculately detailed scenes and passionate actors. The children loved the haunt the most. The actors were good enough to break away from character to reassure that it’s all costumes and makeup. It was really sweet of them. We are your patrons and sure to be back year after year.

Goosebumps and screams! Surprises, nice scenes and unexpected things. Definitely rate 10/10.
Email Verified Neatly planned
Was there for their Sunday night show. It took our breath away! Neatly planned and executed. Enjoyed the way the rooms were all designed. They had some of the best scenes I have never seen anywhere. The actors did a splendid job. Chase you around and scare you to death. Will love to come back for the next season.
Email Verified Mystery and thrills
Its family oriented yet still scary for adults as well. A well-designed set that looked haunted from down under. We took our time to enjoy the scenes and the set. Movie-quality acting and graphics! The makeup of the actors is absolutely incredible. Loved the mystery and thrills. All were planned really well.
Horrifying haunt!!
Quite an amazing experience we had at this haunted house. I remember coming here during my school days and I remember feeling scared. It was my first haunt. It is the same even now. I was with my kids and coincidentally it is their first haunt as well. They enjoyed it to the core. There was a good mix of fun and scare and the actors were very well trained. The set was great and depicted a horrifying haunt house so well. The kids did not want to leave it and I had to drag them to the car. So definitely coming back next year.

Truly scary
One of the oldest haunts in Ohio. This was my first haunted house I went as a little girl that instilled the love for haunt houses. And, this is the first haunted house for my children as well. It was a wonderful, amazing time for them. The houses here are truly scary at times with great effects that punch way above your expectations. It took them by surprise and had moments of fear. Can’t wait to come back!
Email Verified too short
Waiting is a bit long. Some actors are good...but some are inactive. Good costumes was lacking, and the actual haunted house took maybe 15 minutes to walk through. Not going to visit again.

It was like a never before scenes and scares. There were too many pop scares that can take the hell out of you. The actors were scary but fun as well. They come really close to you, but don’t worry they won’t touch you. A nice way to spend your Halloween night. Will gladly go agian.
Email Verified So crowded
The haunts were neatly planned. Scenes were well detailed and it can get etched onto your mind. I was surprised how the young volunteers were committed to give us the ultimate experience. The only drawback is its so crowded inside the attraction. The lines are also long enough.

Evil leprechauns, Irish dancers to inhabit Hudson Haunted House for St. Patrick's Day

Scares are not just for Halloween anymore.
Haunted houses now routinely open for limited runs during the offseason for things like Friday the 13th and Valentine's Day.
The venerable Hudson Haunted House is opening for the second year to mark St. Patrick's Day. The haunt will be open this Friday and Saturday night for St. Patrick's Revenge.
Jerimiah Greathouse of The Hudson Jaycees, which organizes the haunt, said many of the usual scares will be part of the tours, but they have added some new tricks to mark the holiday.
There will even be an evil leprechaun-inspired room.
A local group of Irish dancers are also scheduled to perform.
More: Hudson Haunted House marks 50 years of scaring the bejeebers out of folks
It is believed that Hudson Haunted House is among the oldest — if not the oldest —continuously run haunts in the country, and it's certainly the oldest one operated to raise money for charity.
In fact, it is one of the few remaining Jaycees haunts lefin the state that raise money for charity.
The Hudson group marked its 50th anniversary last Halloween and raises about $60,000 a year. The haunt has raised about $1.9 million over the years.
Greathouse said the group is talking with the city to offer more offseason events at the haunted house, located in Oak Grove Park off Barlow Road.
And for the first time, he said, they hope to expand beyond the walls of the haunt and open an outdoor trail too.
"Haunted houses are not just for October anymore," he said.

Jaycees scare up 50th season of Hudson Haunted House
September 30, 2022
by Judy Stringer
By the time you read this article, more than 3,000 fright fans will have passed through the Hudson Haunted House this season.
The popular haunt, in its 50th year, opened Sept. 23 and runs every Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 29.
“This is a legendary house,” said Damon Call, president of the Hudson Jaycees, a nonprofit that owns and operates the venue. “It’s the oldest running haunted house in Ohio, as far as we know. If not the oldest, [it is] definitely in the top five.”
There are a few “room changes” and more “interactive” outdoor thrills for the 2022 season, according to Call and Hudson Jaycees Public Relations Coordinator Jeremiah Greathouse.
“This may be one of the oldest, but it’s not the ‘same old house,’” Greathouse noted.
Call said the Hudson Jaycees held its first haunted house in 1972. Today, it averages about 1,500 visitors a night.
The notoriety of its Halloween-season haunt, in fact, inspired the local Jaycees to add a St. Patrick’s Day-themed spook show last spring, called St. Patrick’s Revenge.
“That was a lot of fun and also drew in a lot of visitors,” Call said.
Greathouse said it takes 75-80 people to prepare and stage the Hudson Haunted House. About half of them are Junior Jaycee members, a program for eighth- to 12th-graders, but community members as young as 5 or 6 join in the scary fun.
“I grew up in the Jaycees,” Call said. “I volunteered here when I was young just like my brothers did.”
“We also have a number of adults who donate their time,” Greathouse added. “We spend all summer working on the house. There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes.”
Proceeds from the all-volunteer haunted house are given back to the community through Jaycee projects and grants. Its biggest charity program is Kids Helping Kids, an annual Christmas gift giveaway. Call said the Jaycees recently co-sponsored the Streetsboro bicentennial celebration. The group also regularly donates to food pantries, individual families who ask for help and other nonprofits like Boys and Girls Club of Akron.
“We find out what they need and respond with what we can give,” he said.
Less scary options
For those who might not be ready for the full fright, organizers offer less-scary versions of the haunted house on three Sundays this month.
Masks are off and the lights are on during afternoon “matinees” on these Sundays.
“That’s a time for little ones to trick-or-treat while going through,” Call said.
“Then on Sunday evenings we do what we call ‘monster magic,’ where the kids go through a normal house, but they use magic to scare the monster to back off, and it’s a little bit more interactive with the patrons.”
