The river children.

The River Children is a side quest Tale of Tsushima, located in the Toyotama region of Tsushima. You can find this quest along the end of the river in the Old Kanazwa Marsh, just to the west of the Stone Mire Lookout, at a small fishing hut where a woman is in distress.

• Minor Legend Increase,
• Minor Melee Charm - Charm of Bludgeoning (Moderate increase to Stagger Damage),

Investigate the Docks

After speaking to the terrified villager, begin the search for her father and the mysterious Kappa demon outside. Look up from the building you exited outside the smaller hut to inspect an overturned barrel of rice, several gutted fish on a mat, and a trail of blood stains leading to the water’s edge.

Track the Kappa

Move to the opposite side of the river following the makeshift fish barrier, and inspect the shore for more weird footprints. The tracks will lead off to the north, and may be hard to spot in the mud, so move slowly and cautiously forward up the river’s edge until you find a body.

From the dead body, you’ll be able to find more tracks, this time going inland along trampled grass creating a path you can follow as it moves west. Once you cross a road into the interior of the Old Kanazawa Marsh, look for a small hill where the tracks lead - into a bandit camp.

Defeat the Bandits

These murderers are no Mongols, and won’t have much in the way of defense against your superior samurai blade, so either challenge them to standoff and cut them down one at a time, or use stealth to sow chaos and chain assassinate a few before finishing off the survivors.

Once the group is dispatched, search all the bodies to find a Flute among them - belonging to the villager’s father that was killed. Return the flute to his daughter and reveal the truth of the attacks to complete the mission and gain a reward.

The River Children is a tale of Tsushima that becomes available during Act 2: Retake Castle Shimura .

Synopsis [ ]

Jin Sakai encounters a distraught woman named Shino who claims her father was abducted by a kappa . Suspecting that man rather than demon was responsible, Jin searches the area and finds a set of tracks leading across the river. There, he finds the dead body of Shino's father. He follows more tracks and is led to a bandit camp. He defeats the bandits and, searching their belongings, finds a handmade flute belonging to Shino's father. He returns to Shino to give her the flute and break the news. She remains convinced only a demon could have killed her father so brutally, but Jin explains how desperation can bring out the worst in people. With her father dead, Shino decides to travel to Akashima to live with her aunt.

After the tale's completion, Jin goes to Akashima Village and sees Shino there. Shino tells Jin that she is learning to be a healer. Jin tells her that Shino's father would be proud of her.

The River Children is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The River Children Side Quest.

The River Children is unlocked when you’ve found it in the open world.

Side Tale:  The River Children Act:  – Act 2 Region:  Toyotama Quest Giver:  Shino Requirement:  Find the quest start in the open world. Rewards:  Minor Legend Increase + Minor Melee Charm + 14 Linen Mission Info:  Is a woman crying nearby? She might need help.

Objectives:

Travel to a fishing hut to look into rumors

Investigate the docks, investigate the riverbank, track the kappa, examine the remains, defeat the bandits, search the bandits, speak with shino, starting location: the river children.

To start this quest you will need to travel to a hut located where the marker on the map above is. Once you see the marker in the hut head inside and you will see a woman hunched over on her knees. Walk up to her and speak to her.

Head out of the hut and follow the waypoint. At the waypoint there will be half eaten fish to examine.

From the fish look on the dock slightly north for another clue to examine, it’s a bloody trail.

Once you examined both clues you will need head to the waypoint on a small piece of land in the riverbank and examine the shore.

Immediately after finding the tracks coming to shore you will be able to examine another set of tracks alongside it. After looking at the tracks it will show you which direction the kappa went, head to the next little island you will see more tracks along the shore. Continue along the shore following the tracks and stop at each investigatable spot to continue being led forward. Follow them all the way to the mossy rock and on the shore opposite side the mossy rock is a body washed up on shore.

Once you get close enough to the body on the shore your objective will change to this. Walk up and interact with the body to complete this objective.

From the body inland a bit will be another spot for you to examine.

As soon as you examine the tracks for the above objective you will have to walk two feet forward and investigate the tracks again to have a direction to follow. Follow the path in the orange grass with the footprints in it.

Along the path you will get another spot to investigate. Continue down this path and across the muddy road continuing forward. Follow the path between the big rocks and around the bend ahead. Continue down the path until you get to a small wooden plank bridge.

Once you get to the wooden plank you will see a group of bandits and have the option to Stand Off. Defeat the 5 bandits to complete this minor objective.

Walk over to the defeated bandits and search them all and on the last one you will find the Flute.

Head back towards the hut with the flute and Shino will be where the waypoint is depending on the time of day in-game. Once you speak to her a cutscene will start ending this mission.

This finishes The River Children quest in Ghost of Tsushima.

The river children - quest location, located in toyotama region.

The River Children side quest is found in the Toyotama region. The quest location is south of the Old Kanazawa Marsh and north-west of Drowned Man's Shore.

Legend Increase, Charm & Resources

Successfully completing the side quest will reward you with a minor legend increase, as well as a minor melee charm, and 14 pieces of linen for upgrades.

River Children is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima. There’s a part of the tale where things can go wrong due to a bug, during the objective where you have to investigate the docks. Although it’s only a side quest, not finishing it thanks to a bug can leave a sour taste in your mouth. In the guide below, we’ll describe how to fix investigate the docks bug in River Children Ghost of Tsushima tale .

How to Investigate the Docks

To investigate the docks , and progress with the story, you need to examine a couple of clues. As your character approaches the clue to investigate it, he will just linger there indefinitely. This bug stops you from progressing the story, and no matter how much time passes, the character will be stuck in this position, and you can’t do anything about it from there.

It doesn’t matter which one of the clues you choose to investigate, weather it is the half-eaten fish or the tracks near the end of the dock. The game just kind of bugs out, even though everything else works. The weather changes, you can hear noises, and the wind still plays with your clothes.

How to Fix River Children Tale bug

To complete the River Children, and pass the bugged investigate the docks objective, you need to load the game again. This can be done by exiting to the title screen, or turning off the game, then loading it up again. This will fix the bug and allow you to complete the broken objective. Although it might be your first choice, since you can only open the map when the bug occurs, using fast travel and then heading back to the objective won’t work.

If you’ve fixed the problem, you can do the next objective – investigate the riverbank. This path takes you to the other side of the river. Spot the tracks on the ground and track the kappa, following the coast away from the docks. After the next clue, you’ll get to investigate the riverbank in order to track the kappa to the nearby forest. This is where the bandits responsible for the events happen to reside. When you’ve dealt with them and picked up the flute, return and speak with Shino to complete this quest. A rather sad story, but most of them are, here in war-torn Tsushima.

This is the second glitched mission I’ve encountered. The first one was much worst than this and required I progress the main quest by three or four major missions before I could return to the second island to complete it. Very frustrating. I hope Sucker Punch is patching these for future players.

I am glad I found out this is a known bug, I was afraid I had become a jiangshi and was forced to count that bag of rice on the dock…

At first I thought this was just a bug with the game in general because Jin had been looking at things for a couple seconds before saying anything. Then I waited about 3 minutes and looked it up.

The easiest way to start this tale is to find the fishermen's hut in Toyotama where Shino and her father live.

You can also learn about the problems of fishermen by talking to people you meet while exploring the world.

People have been telling strange stories of creatures attacking fishermen in Akashima. I'll investigate and find out what's happening.

Quest stages of The River Children

1. travel to a fishing hut to look into rumors.

Go to a place where fishermen live and talk to a woman who is hiding in one of the huts. She is convinced that they were attacked by a demon. Her father who went looking for the monster didn't come back so you'll decide to look for him.

A woman says she heard screams and splashing in the river, and believes a kappa took her father from the riverbank. She spoke of the kappa with such certainty, maybe she's speaking the truth. Demon or not, I'll find out what happened to the man.

2. Investigate the docks

Examine tracks on the platform. You can also examine half-eaten fish but it's optional.

3. Investigate the riverbank

Go to the other side of the river and find the footprints on the riverbank.

4. Track the kappa / Examine the remains

Follow the tracks along the river bank to the north. At some point you should see a corpse lying on the riverbank. Examine it. It's Shino's father.

5. Investigate the riverbank / Track the kappa

A few steps further on, you'll find more tracks. This time leading westwards to a nearby grove. When you get there, it will all become clear. It wasn't a demon but a group of bandits who attacked Shino and her father.

6. Defeat the bandits / Search the bandits

Killing five bandits shouldn't be a big challenge for you. When you do that, search their corpses and find a flute that belonged to Shino's father.

7. Speak with Shino

Go back to Shino and tell her the sad news about her father. You will also hand her the flute you found and then this tale will be over.

The River Children Walkthrough

• You can obtain this side quest through exploring the region of Toyotama, specifically by finding a house at the Old Kanazawa Marsh.
• Head inside the nearby hut and speak to a woman named Shino to being the quest. She will tell you that she saw a Kappa by the river.
• You'll find a barrel of rice that's been knocked over.
• A bunch of half-eaten fish near the barrel.
• And tracks of blood by the docks that lead into the river.
• After you've examined the blood, go straight, and investigate the riverbank where you'll find tracks of the Kappa.
• Go to the right side of the riverbank and follow the trail of the Kappa where you'll see the body of Shino's father.
• Near the body, on the left side, you'll see more tracks. Follow it and along the way, Jin will smell fish that's being cooked.
• Continue going straight by following the narrow path from the grass fields and you'll eventually reach a campsite for a group of bandits.
• You can challenge them to a standoff or sneak in and kill them one by one by assassinating them.
• After killing the group, search the bodies of the bandits and you'll obtain the Father's Flute that belongs to Shino's father.
• Go back to the house and tell Shino about what you discovered - this completes the side quest.
