Disney Wolf Names 🐺🌟

Wolves from "The Jungle Book" - Classic Disney Image (22381914) - Fanpop

In the magical world of Disney, wolves have had their moments of fame, often depicted with distinctive characteristics and personalities.

While they might not be the central characters in every tale, their roles are memorable, teaching us about loyalty, courage, and sometimes the wild nature of life itself.

Let’s embark on a journey through the enchanted Disney forests and discover some names inspired by these majestic creatures.

  • Akela – The noble alpha wolf and leader of the pack that raises Mowgli in “The Jungle Book.”
  • Raksha (also known as Mother Wolf ) – The protective mother wolf in “The Jungle Book” who adopts and cares for Mowgli.
  • Rama – Raksha’s mate in “The Jungle Book” who accepts Mowgli as his own cub.
  • Lone Wolf – A minor antagonist from “The Sword in the Stone,” he tries to prey on young Wart (Arthur).
  • Nuk, Yak, and Sumac – The three wolves who follow Rutt and Tuke around in “Brother Bear 2,” initially as adversaries but later as friends.

  • Fenrir Greyback – While not a traditional Disney character, he’s an infamous werewolf from the “Harry Potter” series which was shown on Disney Channel. His name could suit a fierce or menacing wolf.

While Disney doesn’t have an extensive list of wolf characters, many names from the broader Disney universe can evoke the kind of imagery or personality you might associate with a wolf.

As such, consider names of characters known for their cunning, loyalty, leadership, or wilderness skills when naming your wolf.

Guiding Your Instincts: Tips for Naming Your Wolf 🐺🌙

Choosing the perfect name for your wolf, be it a pet, a character in a story, or a symbol for something meaningful, can be a wonderful yet daunting task. Let’s make that journey smoother with some handy tips:

  • Personal Resonance : Start by considering what personally resonates with you. If a certain name or word holds sentimental value or evokes particular emotions, it might be the perfect fit.
  • Cultural Significance : Explore names from different cultures. Wolves play a vital role in many mythologies and tales across the world.
  • Physical Traits : Observe your wolf or imagine the character traits if it’s fictional. Names that reflect their appearance or demeanor can be quite fitting.
  • Sounds and Syllables : Names with one or two syllables are often easier to remember and can be more impactful. Think of “Luna” or “Frost.”
  • Ask Others : Sometimes, bouncing ideas off friends or family can spark that “Aha!” moment. They might suggest a name that you hadn’t considered.
  • Nature-inspired : Wolves are creatures of the wild. Drawing inspiration from nature, be it elements, weather, or landscapes, can offer beautiful naming options.
  • Historical & Fictional Inspiration : There are many historical figures and fictional characters named after wolves or with wolf traits. Consider borrowing from them.
  • Avoid Common Names : While names like “Grey” or “Shadow” are beautiful, they are also quite common. If you’re looking for something unique, think outside the box.
  • Growth Consideration : If you’re naming a baby wolf or creating a character who will evolve, ensure the name remains suitable as they grow or as their story arc develops.
  • Trust Your Gut : Lastly, trust your instincts. If a name feels right, it probably is!

Remember, naming is a personal journey. Take your time, enjoy the process, and choose a name that you’ll love saying every time.

Wolf Spirit Animal Meaning & Symbolism (+ Worksheet)

by Mateo · Aug 26, 2023 · 83 Comments

wolf spirit animal image

I’m often asked why we decided to call our website ‘LonerWolf.’

My answer is that the wolf carries one of the most profound meanings in the whole of the animal kingdom.

Spirit Animals, for centuries, have been seen as sources of meaning, wisdom, and power.

At their origins, Spirit Animals have been symbolic guides of our journeys of self-discovery and spiritual awakening .

Before psychology, animals were used as a means to learn about ourselves. Wolves, out of all animals, have a particularly complex and rich series of lessons to teach us.

The innate traits of the Wolf are having a powerful instinct, finely tuned intuition, and high intelligence.

The Wolf roams the wild with a thirst for freedom, working within a social environment.

Young wolves on the brink of sexual maturity will often leave the group in search of their mate, losing all of their familial connections.

These ‘ lone wolves ‘ must learn to fend for themselves without the help of any social group: they must become stronger. Hence our name “lonerwolf.” (Read more about our name choice here .)

Wolf spirit animal meaning image

Ancient cultures and indigenous people believe that animals and humans share the same spiritual essence with each other.

Shadow & Light Membership image

They also believed that some animals are attracted to and present themselves to us in specific moments of our lives to reveal messages.

The Wolf Spirit Animal is symbolic of listening to your intuition, seeking freedom, embracing aloneness and togetherness, being loyal and trusting, and having courage and determination to walk your true path.

(Remember that you can take our free Spirit Animal Quiz after reading this article!)

In summary, the Wolf Spirit Animal symbolizes:

  • Strong connection with your instincts or intuition
  • High intelligence
  • Loyalty and communication
  • A deep desire for freedom
  • Loyalty and trust

If Wolf is your Spirit Animal, the following Soul lessons will apply to you:

Image of a white wolf's eyes

Wolf is a loyal and highly intelligent animal here to remind you of the need to connect with your instincts and hunches.

As a creature ruled by primal instinct, Wolf highlights the importance of listening to your intuition more. Do you tend to get lost in your thoughts? Does your mind fall into repetitive cycles of overthinking, planning, or analyzing? Does your mind struggle to turn off at night?

Wolf has come into your life to help you get in touch with the raw and perceptive side of yourself that is beyond thought. You are a person who has been blessed with strong intuitive abilities, YET you have not fully owned or developed this gift. It’s time to trust your gut feelings more and learn to distinguish intuition from fear-based feelings.

Intuitive insight will always feel clear and unemotional , whereas fear-based feelings will be emotionally charged. Wolf is here to help you learn how to make this important distinction.

Here I want to highlight that Wolf represents the Pathfinder.

She is a guide that helps you discover when you are being misguided by the mind and being led correctly when using your instincts.

Having Wolf as a spirit animal serves to emphasize your levels of trust or mistrust in your instincts and intuition.

Connecting with and learning to use your intuition will help you to make more soul-aligned decisions, ‘sniff’ out the true intentions of others, and avoid many pitfalls on your life journey.

Image of a brown roaming wolf

Wolf also carries the message of freedom. In a pack, Wolf carries the meaning of connection (more on that soon), but when alone, Wolf is the very embodiment of independence.

She asks you to examine what core beliefs are currently holding you back from stepping into your power. In what ways are you limiting your own freedom? What habits or behavioral patterns are keeping you enslaved? It’s time to confront these shadows head-on. Wolf will be by your side.

Wolves are wild animals – they are beautiful creatures of mystery that cannot be domesticated.

Spiritual Gifts Test image

If a Wolf appears to you at a certain period of your life when you’re in doubt about the changes that are happening, it can reassure you that the path you’re taking is the right one  and that you’re being loyal to your instincts.

Equally, if the Wolf presents itself in a moment in life where you feel stuck, it might be reminding you that you’re a free spirit , that you can deviate from whatever path you are currently on and become a ‘ lone wolf ‘ if necessary to pursue your dreams.

Courage is the next message shared by Wolf. It takes a lot of courage and determination to walk alone. Wolf has come into your life to remind you of the inner strength lying deep at the core of your being.

As an extremely powerful ally for the spiritual journey, Wolf reminds you that the path of enlightenment is often a lonely road. No one can do the work for you. You might find teachers, friends, or useful techniques along the way, but ultimately spiritual growth is a solitary path.

You must be the one to take full responsibility for yourself, your shadows, and your ultimate awakening – and that takes true courage.

Having Wolf as your spirit animal indicates that you are either experiencing spiritual roadblocks or need more support and guidance. You might be feeling lost, confused, lonely, disconnected from others, or suffering from severe societal disillusionment.

Wolf also points to the fact that you might even be going through a Dark Night of the Soul in which you have tasted what peace and spiritual freedom feels like but then ‘lost’ it and feel like you’re stumbling around in the dark again. Perhaps you have completely lost touch with your soul. If this is the case, Wolf is a supreme ally who will loyally guide and help you find your way again.

Image of a lone wolf at sunset

The other message Wolf brings is also one of connection . In nature, Wolf has a highly complex, loyal, and intimate bond with other pack members. She is prepared to fight to the death to protect those of her tribe.

Wolf truly is the master of standing firmly in her own power while also belonging to a community, to something greater than herself.

Depending on how Wolf appears to you and what she shares with you, the message will either be one of needing to embrace the solitary path or seek social harmony with others.

It is unnecessary to renounce everyday life and be a monk who meditates alone in a temple to be spiritual. Often, the best and wisest path of spiritual, emotional, and mental development are the relationships already present in your life. What better way to learn qualities such as patience, tolerance, and humor?

Self-Love Journal image

Wolf teaches the need to seek more understanding and compassion in your relationships. If you constantly experience friction, Wolf can help you learn how to practice empathy or the ability to place yourself into the shoes of another mentally.

Qualities such as loyalty, dedication, protectiveness, and selflessness can also be honed within your relationships through the support of Wolf.

On a similar but slightly different note, Wolf also brings the message of deep connection.

If you have been feeling misunderstood, isolated, or taken for granted, it’s time to reassess those whom you allow into your ‘pack.’ Not all of the connections that we have in this life are genuine, healthy, or deep. In fact, many people in our lives are huge sources of toxicity and energy loss.

Examine the people in your tribe. Are they pulling their weight? Do they give equally to what you give?

Wolf also indicates that you might have some unhealthy social connections which need to be attended to. In order to live from a place of personal power, Wolf advises you to let go of any connections that don’t support and nourish you. While this can be a difficult task, it is a form of empowerment. Why keep those around who demoralize you?

Once you free up space and let go of toxic connections, you will have more energy to attract those into your pack who truly support and love you.

Image of a woman and a wolf

When the Wolf appears, either physically, through meditation, via spiritual signs and omens , or through a dream, it’s often a way of telling you that you need to explore your relationship with loyalty and trust.

Wolf’s sense of loyalty can be seen in a variety of ways.

These creatures are one of the few animals to hold only monogamous relationships. Most wolves mate for life and will not take another partner if their own dies.

Pack members also hold deep emotional bonds, greeting each other enthusiastically after they have been separated for long periods of time.

The presence of a Wolf spirit animal can serve as a reminder of a lack of loyalty or trust in your life.

Often Wolf shows itself to those who have become strongly apprehensive of bonding with others and have grown immensely mistrusting of those around them.

A Wolf spirit animal can represent a perceived threat or feeling, for instance: that you are being threatened by someone or something in your life.

As Wolf’s main trait is its sharp instinct, your Wolf spirit animal could be trying to tell you that you’re misguided in your trust for someone, or it may be warning you to listen more often to your instincts or intuition and to be loyal to yourself.

The Wolf spirit animal may also be your unconscious mind’s way of letting you know that it is feeling vulnerable – for instance, that you might have revealed too much to someone about yourself – and now your sense of freedom feels constricted by the predatory mistrust of that person.

Wolf may also signify that the people you’re trying to connect with at the moment are making you feel afraid.

However, mistrust doesn’t always have to do with other people. Sometimes our mistrust and lack of loyalty are directed toward ourselves. Are you loyal and trusting toward yourself?

History of the Wolf Spirit Animal

Image of the wolf spirit animal in the wild

The Wolf has appeared many times throughout history.

In modern culture, we associate wolves with negative qualities, such as the darkness that mythical Werewolves (the story of  Lycaon the King and Zeus ) represent.

In Aesop’s fables, for instance, they are portrayed as being evil and dangerous , such as in the story of “ The Boy Who Cried Wolf ” and “ The Wolf in Sheep Clothing .”  The Brothers Grimm story of “Little Red Riding Hood” also portrays the Wolf as ferocious and intimidating.

Luckily, wolves haven’t always been seen in such a negative light.  In fact, wolves and humans once lived together, according to some historians. They also share many parallel human traits .

Native Americans perhaps had the greatest symbolism for wolves. They modeled themselves after the Wolf in hunting methods, cooperation, and efficiency, valuing them as proud hunters, loyal friends, and intelligent teachers.

They also thought of the Wolf as a spiritual pathfinder , which symbolized intelligence and leadership.

Rome has one of the best-known Wolf-founding legends.  As the legend goes, Romulus and Remus , the two founding brothers of Rome, were raised and suckled by a she-wolf.

In Egyptian mythology, the Wolf  Wepwawet (also rendered Upuaut, Wep-wawet, Wepawet , and Ophois ) was originally a war deity, his name meaning; the  opener of the ways .

It’s interesting to note here that the Native Americans, a completely different race and culture of people, believed that wolves had a special connection to our paths in life as well.

The Mongolians, on the other hand, believed they were descendants of wolves .  The legend goes that in Northern China, a small Turkic village was raided by Chinese soldiers, but one small baby was left behind.  An old she-wolf named Asena found the baby and nursed him.  She then gave birth to half-wolf, half-human cubs from which the Turkic people were born.

In Asia, the wolf is the guardian of the entrance to heavenly, celestial realms.  The Wolf is also said to be among the ancestry of Genghis Khan .

Image of the wolf spirit animal howling in the wild

The wolf is a beautiful, intelligent, and majestic creature that is the largest membe r of the Canidae family, which also includes domestic dogs, coyotes, dingoes, and many types of wild foxes.

There are two widely recognized species of wolf in the world: the red and the gray.

The wolf’s thick fur can be black, grey, or white and can protect against extremely cold temperatures (think -40 degrees!). Wolves live and hunt in packs that can range from two wolves to as many as twenty.

Packs are led by a dominant male and female, who are generally the only ones to breed and mate for life. When running, wolves can reach speeds of up to 65 km per hour (or 40 miles per hour), and they tend to hunt large animals such as deer.

When alone, the wolf hunts smaller animals such as rabbits, raccoons, and squirrels. These amazing animals have an extremely strong sense of smell and possess over 200 million scent cells , unlike humans, who only possess 5 million. Their haunting howl is used to communicate with fellow pack members and clearly define their territory.

Image of a white lone wolf

Native Americans knew that dreaming of a Wolf symbolized beauty, solitude, mystery, self-confidence, and pride.

If a Wolf appears in your dreams, it may signify that you’re approaching life with a composed and adaptable attitude.

On the negative side, a Wolf appearing in your dream might be warning you of hostility, domination, or aggression from others (or within yourself toward others). The Wolf might want to serve as a guide in a situation in your life where you feel vulnerable and weak.

Some dream psychoanalysts interpret wolves in nightmares as conveyors of a perceived threat, such as strong sexual energy occurring in your life (in you or someone close to you) or different types of addictive craving behaviors that you might be struggling with.

The story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ was originally an allegoric metaphor for the loss of virginity (red hood) taken away by the predatory ‘Big Bad Wolf’ (men).

In positive dreams, psychoanalysts interpret the Wolf as a guiding symbol for trusting your instincts (again, sexual instincts and addictive ‘cravings’ play a role here) and expressing them in a more balanced way.

I do tend to relate to the fox spirit animal symbolism more, though people do say I relate to the wolf as well. Though sometimes I feel there’s two sides of me when it comes to the whole canine spirit animal thing. The wild canine such as wolves and foxes, then the domesticated canine, which is the dog. That is, outside of my usual wild side, I tend to act more like your happy go lucky loyal dog friend, in certain “civilized situations.” That is, someone readily affectionate, with strong instincts, a lot of hyper energy, a need to protect loved ones, a deep sense of royalty, and a tendency to try to make friends with everyone I meet. Perhaps, even though my personality is usually wild, I won’t mind being “tamed” in certain situations or by certain people, so I act more like an enthusiastic dog with a fondness for rough play and messiness, than someone more out of control. Though I accept that, only if I may also “tame” them as well, so we can be on equal footing here.

Giving Your Animal Guide A Name and Spirit Names

So you’ve spent a long time searching for your animal guide , and now you have found one on a totem . Where do you go from here? Well, you can spend time meditating and building your relationship with your guide , but how do you identify with it? The first step is usually to give it a name . Sounds relatively easy, but is it? Sometimes it can take a lot of effort to find that right name for your animal guide , almost as much as finding your guide in the first place

spirit wolves names

Some people have that knack for names , usually, the first name that pops into their head and is happy with that choice. But remember you are building a lifetime relationship with your guide . You want that name to be unique to your guide and you. You don’t want to change your guides name a dozen times; it may actually confuse your guide and cause problems with your relationship . Would you give your dog several different names ? A dog will respond to one name , one that he or she identifies with. If you call your dog different names it will confuse them and frustrate you. I think you get the idea.

Spirit Animals by Flabber DeGasky @ Flickr

Most names come to you from the visions and meditations you undertake when you are finding your guide ; sometimes when you call out to them. Other times the name comes from actual contact with your spirit guide , such as the colour and the texture of the fur, feathers or skin. It could come the way they reacted to you when they appeared to you, such as howling, running, flying, roaring, etc. An example could be “White Snow Wolf”, “Crouching Tiger”, “Big Running Bear” or a simple one-word name , such as “Makota”, “Bluewolf”, or “Lonewolf”. I will tell you a short story about the way I found mine.

I was introduced to my animal guide in one of my visions as a young Indian boy.

I was growing up and coming of age. We always had wolves around our camp and I remember one incident when I was very young. I was always getting into things I shouldn’t have. One time I got too close to the campfire and was going to stick my hand in it. Then out of nowhere this young wolf , about a year old, grabbed my arm in its mouth and pulled it away from the fire putting his own life at risk to save me. The elders of the tribe saw this. They were astonished and amazed at the act of bravery this wolf had done. After witnessing this, the elders came up to me and the young wolf and told my parents what the wolf had done. They told them that this wolf “Is the one” to be paired up with me as my guide and companion. The elders named the wolf “Lakota”. He was beautiful with all black fur, gold eyes and was very big and strong for his age. We became inseparable, with many adventures ahead of us.

spirit wolves names

This is how I got the name for my wolf guide , in one of the many visions I had. So when I had my first contact with my animal guide , which in this case was the wolf , I saw that same black wolf with the gold eyes staring at me. I called out “Is that you Lakota?” He came over to me because he recognized the name and sat down by my side. I gave him a big hug and I realized it was him I’d seen in my visions . And we have been building on this relationship ever since. You may not have had the same experience I did, but it can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience for you to find that right name for your guide .

As for a spirit names for yourself, since we are on the subject of names ; it can be the same name as your animal guide or completely different. The process is the same as it was for your animal guide .  Most of us are not of Native American blood so to speak, so we weren’t given a spiritual name . Your spiritual name can come from your guide , something you are or do, or from your meditations and visions .  I received my s piritual name from one of my visions and I will share with you here.

Once again, as a very young Indian boy, I remember life in my tribe when I was growing up. I used to play with the other children, but I had a tendency to wander off on my own. I just wanted to explore the world around me. I would wander off for hours at a time and my parents would start to worry and end up sending out some of the other members of the tribe to look for me. When I was found they would bring me back and I would get scolded and punished for running off. Remember, it is dangerous to be wandering off on your own, especially for a young boy by himself! The tribal elders conferred with my parents and decided to give me the name “ Little Grey Lonewolf “. And that’s how I earned my spirit name in real life. As time went on and I got older, I dropped the “ Little ” from the name and eventually dropped the “ Grey ” from the name as well. I now use my real first name “ Ken ” so it has become “ Ken Lonewolf” .

spirit wolves names

Some of my friends just call me “ Lonewolf “. Even in real life, I had the same tendencies as the young Indian boy. I love to explore and seek new things. That does not mean I am a loner as the name would suggest. It actually means freedom , the ability to strike out on your own, but not forget the qualities gifted by the wolf spirit ; those such as love and family and the togetherness of community .

Enjoy naming your animal guide and even yourself. Just remember, you have to live with the names you choose. Do not worry about other people’s thoughts about the names you chose, they’re not you!

Blessings on your journey and may it be rewarding and fulfilling.

Thank you Wolf Brothers ,

Ken Lonewolf

Hello Christo

Thank you for your comment and welcome to TimberwolfHQ. In response to your question, there are many ways to discover your animal totem/spirit guide. One is meditation, another is through events that occur around us. I have always felt an affinity for wolves, then after doing research on spirit animals, I found that Wolf was in fact one of my guides. Your experience is not unusual and it is quite possible that Raven is one of your guides as well.

Please let me know if there is another question that I or my readers are able to answer for you.

We all have more than one Animal Spirit Guide throughout our life. The fact that you have encountered more than Wolf is not unusual. You will however have only one Totem Animal guide and this one will stay with you always.

Hello, my name is Ulric. I have known for a long time now that my main guide is the wolf, but recently it seems there is more than one. It is hard to say if there are two or more wolves following me throughout my days. Is this unusual? or for that matter, likely? I’ve been trying for quite awhile now to communicate more clearly with my guide(s) to better understand their intent but have been had a hard time. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this. Much thanks, Ulric

Hi =3 Am not really sure if this site is still up and running, but i guess you could say i have a question and is seeking advice. When I was about fifteenish I kept having dreams about wolves and running with them, one particular one had spoken to me and told me he was my guardian, and his name Kurai or something like it. It had been years since that day that i keep wondering if it was all my imagination, or if he really was my ‘guardian’ per se. I keep wondering if possible how to reach him-though on certain occasions this year when i needed help in dreams and called his name he would come-but not always as a wolf. Any advice about this? am now 22 so ya.. kinda a weird request. Thanks again, and I’v read what you said, and it is enspiring, that’s why i decided to post here hoping to get feed back. Thanks again.

Hi Kira. If you still need help, I can help you with this kind of thing. So far what I’ve read in a few comments aren’t true and I find it to be an insult to my religious beliefs. With that said, I’ll do what I can to help you out. It can get extremely confusing sometimes. It took me 4 or 5 years before things made since. XD

Greetings Valeria and welcome to Timberwolf HQ! Sometimes I feel like I just exited out of a time warp, I see you posted on July 29 and I just received the email notification today October 7. My apology for responding so late. It is very possible your Zodiac sign is a connection to your wolf spirit since it is the wolf. The feeling of this connection is your spirit guide drawing you in, don’t rush it, give it time to develop. Most people won’t speak to their guide right away until they can clearly see it. The ones who yell and scream are the ones who don’t know what they are feeling and are afraid and scared of their encounter, usually the first time around. Take your time with it and speak to it when you feel the time is right. If you need some help with working with your guide, please ask any questions you have and read Timber’s article https://timberwolfhq.com/discover-your-animal-totem/ I hope it won’t take that long to get back to you! Blessings, Ken Lonewolf

Hello, I don’t really know how to explain this. I meditated on my spirit guide once and I think it’s a wolf. I didn’t speak to her but I feel this strong connection. Just today I learned the my zodiac sign is also a wolf (I’m a Pisces). Is it weird to feel a strong connection without having spoken to my spirit guide? I don’t know.. I feel like it’s true but I also feel like I might just be jumping into it a little quickly.

Thank you, Valeria

July 11, 2014 at 3:07 am

No worries Valeria. Mine is mute. Yours might be too. It’s totally normal to feel a strong connection. If it really is a spirit guide then it’s been with you since birth and most likely even before. If being mute is the case, as time goes by you might get her to talk to you by thought in both normal life AND meditation. It’s a bit tricky to tell if they’re your thoughts or hers but you’ll figure it out over time. 🙂

It is fine. I understand. It is very difficult when one has a question and then to not get an answer. Just know that we are all here to help each other and that at times we are also busy.

I know that you will find your animal totem. Have faith and patience. Sometimes it takes people a little longer in finding their answers and others it happens quickly. Meditation are the best way to get to the place you need to be.

Blessings and best of luck. Do not hesitate to ask more questions if you need further help!

Greetings Sarah, Please forgive us for the long delay in responding to your question. Timberwolf and I have been very busy as of late, keeping up with work and family, hasn’t given me the time to respond in a timely manner. I just noticed my email today (7-17-12) and my good friend Holly Jo’s response. Normally I receive email notifications if a comment was posted, but for some odd reason never got yours. Please accept our apology for the delay. As far as your question, Holly Jo answered it for you (Thank you Holly!) . I am in full agreement that you do not have to have Native blood to see your animal guide, nor are there age limits. A young lad found his at an early age in one of our other postings Wolf Spirit. You can browse through the comments there. I feel you are having trouble meditating and clearing your mind to open yourself up to see your guide whatever it may be. What I am referring to is that your guide may be a wolf, a bird, dog, cat, or any other animal. You and only you can find out what it is. Work on your meditation technique and read this post to help you https://timberwolfhq.com/discover-your-animal-totem/ it will give you tips to find your guide. You can also follow up with https://timberwolfhq.com/animals-spirit-power-totem/ to find out about the various animal totems and what they represent. Again my personal apology for not responding. Good luck in your quest to find your guide, and my the Great Spirit guide you. Blessings to you and all who read Timberolf HQ, Ken Lonewolf

I response to your question dated 5/21/12. You do not have to have Native blood to find your guide, nor is there an age limit. It is sometimes difficult for people to actually meet their guides because they are not meditating or because sometimes there is fear in meeting them. What is felt in the heart and what you feel with your soul is the answer to if it is all in your head or not. Know that we are a community and if there is anything that I can do to help you or ease your mind, please let me know and I will do my best. 🙂

Please know that Timber Wolf has been extremely busy and when he has the time, he will get you answered.

Is it possible you may never find the name of your spirit guide? I have had a spirit guide for many years and can never quite get the name. We can still cominucate but it never comes to the requirement of calling it by name. He is just always there, it’s like turning to a friend beside you to ask a question or for help.

April 1, 2012 at 2:34 pm

It is possible that you may not know the name of your guide. It is a matter for the guide themselves to divulge their name to you. Sometimes that is irrelevant to why they have come to you and so the guide finds it unnecessary. Meditation and patience are the only prescription that will assist with this matter. However, don’t try to force the issue, you may loose the confidence of your guide altogether.

July 11, 2014 at 3:09 am

Exactly! You don’t give them a name because they already have a name. Its your job to discover it. Its kind of like a test. 🙂

March 3, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Hi Kealani and welcome to Timberwolf HQ! Are you a lunatic? Hardly! That feeling comes from not understanding what is happening to you and talking to people who do not know or understand what you are talking about. It is perfectly normal to feel this because it is new to you, but you will overcome this fear of not understanding what is happening to you.

Give yourself some time to work with your guide, meditate and speak to it. It will listen to you. Gaze into it’s eyes to make a connection with it. You can see their inner soul. Once you become comfortable with it you can go on adventures and it will become your companion and guide. It is a special gift to have this happen to you.

Can God and your inner animal work together? Absolutely yes! God created all the animals of the Earth and man was destined to be tied to them. There is nothing wrong with using animals in a positive and respectful manner. Man was meant to coexist with all of God’s creations. It is one of the Native American 10 commandments to treat Mother Earth and all of creation with the utmost respect.

Take the Chinese monks of thousands of years ago, they studied the behavior and the movement of many animals to develop the many styles of Kung Fu that we know today. Each animal has their own qualities. The wolf has the qualities of being a tight family. Each wolf has an important role in the pack. The wolf is a teacher, being able to show and teach things to others around them. The wolf is a pathfinder, being able to try new things and to guide the pack. The wolf is a protector, keeping the pack out of harm’s way, he will do whatever is necessary to protect them. If you feel these qualities in you, you most likely have the wolf as your guide.

Growth does come from acceptance of all forms of life and the knowing of the valuable lessons they can teach us. It is our own ignorance that we fail to see what our Creator has given us to use. Use them wisely though, and do not mistreat them for what we have gained can be easily lost.

I truly hope you and Chazen will be spiritually bound together and you may enjoy the relationship you have created together. And enjoy your journey together.

Blessings to all of you, Ken Lonewolf

I love your article and the stories that you put into it…I’m kind of new at this and I all of a sudden had doubts about him last night and it has been bugging me. I don’t know if it is my crazy imagination or what. Then I discovered this site. The wolf that appears to me in my mind wonderings is called Chazen. His fur is as white as snow and he has brown eyes(i’m pretty sure of it). I have went on adventures with him and have daydreamed about me and Chazen fulfilling tasks that God gave us. And I’m sorry if I sound like a complete lunatic. And is this normal?! I have always loved wolves but it wasn’t until I was discovering more about myself that I discovered that it was the only animal that I truly loved. I often imagine myself running through the woods with Chazen and my pack. And can God and the inner animal work together??? And today I ran into this quote, “Growth comes through acceptance of all forms of life and the acknowledgement of the lessons they can teach.” I have ran into it before and it feels like the first time I ran into it and when I ran into it today are connected. Help me please.

My guides named ME, in Algonquin its very long but in English it means Frozenwolf. Took me a year after starring at myself in lakes in wolf form while thinking why I was named that. The reasoning why was amazing. Too long and detailed here but it made sense about my personality, traits and challenges and morals in my life. I have seen all my totems human looking forms as well. Including recently the main family totem of a Canadian grey wolf. His form was very ancient looking but wise, as like a chef.

Introduction into the life of the Owl. A guardian warrior by birth descended down from all great inhabitants of this world and the next. Viewing myself from outside the line of sight seen from my eyes, trapped underwater beneath the firm grip of a log I had tried using for safe crossing over the swift streams current which now gives me this outsiders view of my young boyish self no older than four years of age.

On a job sight as my father welded on a bridge near by, mother sitting comfortably in a beach chair beneath the sun as she read a book, I wondered adventurously. My guardian, a wolf dog given to me at birth now the same age as myself, crossing the stream she uses a log as her crossing. Following close behind I was sure to meet her on the other side.

That was my intention before feeling the slippery moss gave way under my feet. Happening to fall off on the upstream side of the log I was swiftly pinned between sand and tree… I remember the water being so clear, though not able to set myself free I imagined my dog and how I wasn’t there in our discovery of what lay across the stream. Time passes slowly when faced with reality, suddenly with perfect clarity of an outsiders view I seen exactly what was needed to free this child. Whether I became assended from within or momentarily viewed life through the eyes of a wolf, I was aware that all was needed was to push away enough rock, sand and gravel from beneath me allowing the force of water to guide me through to the other side where I’d be free from the log which kept me fastly pinned to the depths of the stream bed. Upon doing this, little Arthur Stock Jr. rose from the bank on which he came only now sopping wet and walking calmly to his mother, all the while as I viewed this from the other side of the stream.

Welcome to Timberwolf HQ. I would like to thank you for the powerful words of your comment. I felt the chill of the water and the goose bumps on my arms as the young Arthur Stock Jr walked out of the water to his mother.

Thank you for sharing.

Namaste Arthur,

I myself have experienced the seeing of myself from the outside as seen through the eyes of the wolf. It has kept me out of dangerous situations because I saw it from a different perspective and was able to make the decisions to avoid it. I have also been visited by other animal guides as well depending on the situation. You are truly blessed to experience this and would love to hear more of your visions.

Thank you for sharing,

I thought that Silverfawn would be a good name for my spirit guide but i was wrong, i know now that Aruna is the right name. Aruna means Dawn in Cheyenne Indian, so it works out perfectly, in a way me and my Spirit guide has the same name.

June 19, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Namaste Caroline, Give yourself some time for the name, you have already taken a huge step finding your animal totem. Take some time to develop your relationship with your guide, learn about it’s character and traits and how it relates to you. Meditate and place yourself with it in a quiet place, speak to it, look into it’s eyes, you will be surprised at what you can learn from it. The name may just appear from nowhere, capture it and it may be what you are seeking. Patience is the key, just let it happen on it’s own. Keep us posted on your progress, and blessings to you, Ken Lonewolf

After reading this I have discovered what I always felt to be true. The horse is my animal guide. I have always felt a kindred spirit with horses , especially the wild mustang for its’ unfathomable courage and unbreakable spirit. I am not in depth enough yet with my spirituality to name my spirit guide. I believe I have found the friends with which I may learn to search my soul for the answers that I seek.

Thank you Lonewolf for yet another wonderful article. Truly it appears to be written from the depths of your soul…

Thank you for your comment. It is wonderful to see so much interaction going on here at Timberwolf HQ these days. I too am pleased that you have located your animal guide. While I think that patience is necessary to understand your guide and its message and lessons for you. However, meditation can afford you a closer link to your guide and it can even speed up the process of name discovery. The article: Discovering Your Animal Totem has an amazing meditation that has helped many people to not only meet, but be introduced to their animal guide by name. As to your own spirit name, that will come with time. Have patience – a-ye-ga-li a-ga-ti-yv

Ken Lonewolf,

That was absolutely beautiful! I have had 2 different guides come to me during one of my meditations, although I believe that I do have a 3rd one and have only seen it once. However, I believe that my first guide is my strongest and the one that is around me most often. My 2nd guide is there when I need him and most generally he pops in and out of my day as the time comes appropriate for his presence! My first guide is Wolf….although I am still trying to figure out if my guide is male or female, I believe it to be female (maybe I am just guessing on this, but I have not been told that I was wrong yet!) I have a name that sticks with me and as a dog breeder, I even named one of my dogs the name. It is Tala….which means “Stalking Wolf” in Native American, but not sure which tribe. Until I am certain if my guide is male or female, I will not give it a name, I would so hate to name my guide a girl name, if it was actually a male! My 2nd guide is a Bear and is a male. I have named him “Standing Bear”, as every time I have seen him, he is standing on his hind legs.

I absolutely love this and Thank you so much for sharing with us! As many of us are just learning how to contact our guides!

Timber Wolf, I do believe you have another great Article writer on your hands!

Blessings to both of you, as jobs well done!

Spirit wolf chathead

A spirit wolf is a summonable familiar released with introduction of the Summoning skill.

It requires level 1 Summoning and can be used in Combat . It can deal a maximum of 40 life points of damage. Additionally, its Howl scroll can cause most monsters to retreat for a short distance, allowing just enough time for a player to escape. However, it has a low Constitution level, and is one of only a few Summoning familiars that can be poisoned. The Summoning skill logo appears to be a howling spirit wolf, and so the spirit wolf could be considered the skill's signature familiar.

  • 1 Spirit wolf pouch

Spirit wolf pouch [ ]

A Spirit wolf pouch is used in the Summoning skill to summon a spirit wolf. It is made by using a Summoning pouch on a Summoning obelisk with 7 spirit shards , a gold charm and wolf bones in your inventory. It gives 4.8 Summoning experience when made, and 0.93 when used. Using this pouch on a Summoning obelisk will enable a player to create 10 howl scrolls. If players exchange their spirit wolf pouches at Bogrog , they will receive 5 spirit shards for each pouch.

Howl scroll [ ]

The Howl scroll enables the use of the Howl power for a spirit wolf familiar. The howl scroll is made by using a spirit wolf pouch on a Summoning obelisk , providing 0.1 experience and 10 howl scrolls.

A player activates the scroll.

Howl is an effect generated via the howl scroll . In order to create this effect, a player must first have summoned a spirit wolf. Activating the Howl ability requires 3 special move points and provides 0.1 experience.

The Howl effect "scares" non-player opponents, causing them to retreat. However, this lasts for only a few seconds, and the opponent can easily come up and resume attacking again.

This does not work on other players, boss monsters, and some aggressive monsters. However, it does work against revenants , although the revenants can still retaliate with ranged and magic .

Dialogue [ ]

  • The spirit wolf used to be used by player killers in the wilderness as a way to "skull" other players in the wilderness who would otherwise keep their items. This was done by using the anticipation ability to initiate combat, then commanding the spirit wolf to attack the victim. If the wolf does no damage and the victim has auto retaliate on, they will hit the wolf and get a skull .
