Trunk-or-treats, live music and more: How to celebrate Halloween in Zanesville this weekend

ZANESVILLE — Halloween is Sunday, but the festivities are beginning in the Zanesville area as the clock ticks down to the spooky holiday.

Here are a few ways to celebrate this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 29

Downtown Zanesville ghost tours

Friday and Saturday are the last days this year you can explore the supernatural history of downtown Zanesville during a guided ghost tour.

Costumed members of the Renner Theatre will guide visitors through the ghost walks. Tour stops include Zane's Landing Park, the former train station and other spooky sites.

The tours start at Secrest Auditorium. Tickets are $10. Call 740-455-8282 extension 108 to make a reservation and a pre-payment.

Saturday, Oct. 30

Trunk-or-treat at Newton Township Fire Department

The Newton Township Fire Department is hosting a trunk-or-treat event  Saturday afternoon. Children will line up at 4 p.m. to start collecting goodies at the station, located at 5490 Maysville Ave.

Those who want to pass out candy are asked to show up by 3:30 p.m. for a trunk decoration competition, however. The top three best-decorated trunks will win a cash prize.

Halloween costume party at Weasel Boy Brewing

Adults looking to dress up for Halloween can go to Weasel Boy Brewing on Saturday night for a costume party and live music from funk group Thump Daddy Band.

Awards will go to the best-dressed male, female and group/couple.

The event runs 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Putnam brewery, located at 125 Muskingum Ave.

The Barn Uncommon Halloween

Uncommon Denominator will play at 7 p.m. at The Barn. Costume judging will begin at 11 p.m. Overall winners will win gift cards, and winners will also be named for several other categories.

Sunday, Oct. 31

Trunk-or-treat at Coburn United Methodist Church

Ahead of trick-or-treating on Halloween night, families can attend another trunk-or-treat at Coburn United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Those who want to pass out candy are asked to contact the church at [email protected].

Trick-or-treat times in Muskingum, Perry counties

Times for trick-or-treating vary in municipalities across the area. Those participating are asked to turn on their porch lights.

• New Concord:  6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

• Crooksville:  6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
