How to Beat Specter Prime in Horizon Forbidden West: Boss Fight Guide
Last Updated on April 28, 2022 by Jake
Facing the Specter Prime can be a daunting task, but there are some ways to give yourself a better chance at victory:
- Focus your attacks on the machine’s weak points. This will leave it vulnerable to heavy damage and may even disable some of its attacks.
- Make use of cover whenever possible. This will help protect you from the machine’s powerful weapons and gives you a chance to regroup if things get too heated.
- Remember that Specter Prime is not invincible.
Horizon Forbidden West Specter Prime Boss Fight
You can take this formidable machine down and emerge victoriously with enough perseverance and planning.
Specter Prime Location
At the end of the game’s campaign, the player is faced with the final boss: Specter Prime. This large machine is controlled by Tilda, who has taken control of it unexpectedly. The player must battle their way through the machine to reach the top of the tower and then fight Tilda to take control of it. Tilda is a tough opponent, but the player can ultimately triumph by using their own devices against her. After defeating Tilda, the player can finally claim victory in the game’s campaign.
While playing “Horizon Forbidden West,” it’s important to be aware of the different types of enemies you’ll encounter. One enemy you’ll want to be sure to scan is Specter Prime. This enemy is the only one of its kind, and as such, it can be tough to defeat. However, Specter Prime’s biggest weakness is plasma. Therefore, if you equip Aloy with a plasma-based weapon, you’ll have an easier time taking this enemy down. Additionally, you should equip an outfit that makes alloy resistant to fire and shock. This will help her survive the final boss’ attacks.
Equip yourself With Nano-Armor
Nano-armor is a tough material designed to protect against serious damage. However, it is not impenetrable. To damage Specter Prime, you must rely on plasma or acid. These substances can penetrate the nano-armor and destroy it. However, Specter Prime is vulnerable to attack once the armor is damaged. Therefore, it is essential to use plasma or acid when attacking this machine. Without these substances, you will not be able to damage Specter Prime enough to destroy it.
Destroy the Regeneration Module
In the battle against Spectre Prime, there is one key strategy to remember: focus on the lower chest. Why? Because that’s where the small regeneration module is located. This module allows Spectre Prime to repair any damaged armor pieces, making it difficult to take him down. However, you can prevent this by destroying the module early on or constantly attacking to out-damage its repairing capabilities.
Destroy the Specter Prime Components
You’ll need to destroy its siege mortars, pulse cannon, and lancer prime to defeat the boss. Use cover to protect yourself from its attacks and keep moving to avoid its fire waves:
- The boss’s siege mortars can bombard the surrounding area, so keep your distance.
- There will be a pulse cannon on its chest that can shoot shock ammo, so stay behind cover.
- The lancer prime on its back can fire a series of lance-like projectiles, so be sure to stay out of its line of fire.
- The vector thruster near its legs lets the boss generate waves of fire you must jump away from, so be sure to keep moving.
Directly Hit Upper Limbs
The boss is a formidable foe, capable of ranged attacks that quickly deplete your health. In addition to its ranged attacks, the boss can also strike you with its upper limbs, dealing significant damage. To avoid taking too much damage, try staying on the move and using cover effectively. If you find too much damage, don’t hesitate to use a healing item. Using healing items liberally will ensure that you stay alive during the fight. Additionally, remember to stay on the move and dodge often.
Stun and Take it Down
In battle, there is nothing more important than having the upper hand. Whether through planning or sheer luck, the moment you can catch your opponent off guard is when you can strike and gain the advantage. This is especially true when facing a powerful enemy like Specter Prime. By carefully studying your opponent and exploiting its weaknesses, you can quickly turn the tide of battle in your favor. In the case of Specter Prime, by attacking with elements it is weak to, you can stun and stagger it, opening up opportunities for powerful critical hits. Additionally, attacking its weak spots will deal extra damage and may even cause it to kneel or fall down.

Specter Prime is a machine in Horizon Forbidden West , serving as the final boss of the game's main story. It is a Far Zenith exoframe that can morph into multiple forms. Unique to known machines, a human can control a Specter Prime from within a capsule contained inside.

- 2.2 Attacks
History [ ]
The Specter Prime is the upgraded form of the Specter, and was used by Tilda van der Meer in her attempt to force Aloy to join her aboard the Odyssey. Her efforts were unsuccessful, and Tilda was killed when the Specter Prime was destroyed.

Abilities [ ]
As the final machine, the Specter Prime is one of the most powerful machines in Horizon Forbidden West , it can fly in the air without the need for wings and is shown to be quite durable. It possesses a wide selection of moves, it can use its long arms with blades for combat as well as slam its arms into the ground to strike anyone from below. It has rocket thrusts from which it can unleash ground flames at the victims and can even regenerate its parts that have been blown off. In addition to its hand-to-hand based combat, the Specter Prime also possesses a wide selection of firepower-based combat. The Specter Prime has pulse cannons in its torso that it can use to fire light blue energy bullets like previous Specters. It can also fire red heat beams from the blades at the tip of its hands, and fire off missiles from its back. All of this, makes the Specter Prime one of the most formidable machines in Horizon Forbidden West, even more so than the animal machines such as Thunderjaws , Tremortusks and Slaughterspines .
Weakness [ ]
The Specter Prime's Plasma Unit on its head can be destroyed to give it the Plasma Blast Status, and it's Siege Mortar can be destroyed to prevent the Specter Prime from using its missile attacks. The Specter Prime's Pulse Cannons can also be destroyed preventing it from using its rapid-fire pulse blast. The player can also pick up these cannons to use against it. If the Specter Prime's Shock Unit is destroyed it will detonate giving the Specter Prime the Shock State. Its regeneration ability can also be disrupted if the Specter Prime's Regeneration Unit is damaged, the Specter Prime's Launcher Primes can be destroyed to prevent its missile attack and its Vector Thrusters can also be destroyed, preventing the Specter Prime from creating ground fire and jumping attacks.
Attacks [ ]
- This is later alleviated by Patch 1.07 automatically adding it to the compendium after defeating it.
- Specter Prime is the only enemy machine in the series to have no known duplicates of itself, activated or otherwise.
- They are both are machine that appear in a few chapters.
- They both have energy-themed weapons.
- They both can fire missiles.
- They both are used by the main villain (Deathbringer: HADES , Specter Prime: Far Zenith)
- The Deathbringer is a Machine that has been seen multiple times (five times) though out the game, it's design is a bit more monstrous-like resembling a weapon-platform of some kind, it was used by a supernatural entity, has an AI, its finale fight takes place on the ground and is abilities are mostly firepower.
- The Specter Prime however is a Machine that is only seen once in the game, its design is more humanoid-like resembling a type of mech, it was used by a human, relies on a person to operated it, its final fight takes place up high in a tower and its abilities are a mix of close combat and long-range firepower.

Horizon forbidden west: how to beat tilda (boss guide).
Tilda is the final boss that Aloy must beat in Horizon Forbidden West, and Tilda takes control of her own unique machine called Specter Prime.
Quick Links
How to beat tilda in forbidden west (fast way), best weapons to defeat tilda in forbidden west, beating tilda in forbidden west leads to burning shores.
Tilda van der Meer in Horizon Forbidden West is the final boss that players face in the game's story, along with her machine called Specter Prime. As the central antagonist of the entire game, Aloy must defeat Tilda in order to stop her from leaving Earth with GAIA, as well as forcefully taking Aloy with her. Her Specter Prime machine is unlike anything players have faced so far, and it's the only time in the game that they'll face the machine overall.
Since Tilda has her very own machine to control, players will need to scan it before the fight is over in order to register it to their database. Unlike other large machines such as the Tremortusk or Slitherfang in Horizon Forbidden West , players will only have this boss fight as their one opportunity to scan Specter Prime.
Missing out on the chance to scan Specter Prime before beating Tilda in Forbidden West prevents players from being to earn the "All Machine Types" scanned trophy! Should you forget to scan the final machine, reload the last autosave, but remember if you die during the Tilda fight after scanning you will have to do it again the next time.

Tilda and Specter Prime have a lot of repetitive attacks that involve flashy movements leading into a big slap or tendril extension. If it doesn't appear that the machine is charging up for a ranged attack, players can expect an imminent close-quarters attack from Specter Prime. One of the best skills in Horizon Forbidden West to have unlocked for the Tilda boss fight is the Elemental Fury, which increases the buildup and effects of elemental attacks while simultaneously gaining resistance to elemental damage. By using this skill, players can bait Specter Prime into close-quarters combat to deal some massive damage with certain elemental types of attacks.
Before the final fight with Tilda in Horizon Forbidden West begins, players will want to make sure they have the tools needed to craft multiple Acid Traps . Specter Prime is particularly weak against Acid and Plasma attacks, and the Acid Traps will provide massive damage as the machine triggers them during its own attempts to injure Aloy.
Players can also use the Forgefall Sharpshot Bow, one of the best weapons in Horizon Forbidden West , to inflict massive Plasma damage by aiming for the gold plates around the machine. The gold plates are where the machine is most vulnerable, and should always be aimed for regardless of the weapons players choose to use in order to beat Tilda in Forbidden West as fast as possible.
Specter Prime is resistant to Fire, Shock, and Purgewater elemental damage, so players should steer clear of those types of weapons. Additionally, Tilda's machine cannot be overridden, so players will need to fully destroy its health bar to finish the fight.

No, These are Unrepeatable Battles

After you complete the Singularity Main Quest, there's no way to replay it without returning to a previous save file, so the fights with both Erik and Specter Prime are both unrepeatable. You can also miss out on scanning Specter Prime, and won't be able to scan it again to get 100% completion for your Machine catalogue, so be sure to scan it here.
There is also no New Game Plus feature, so if you don't have an earlier save file, the only way to fight these bosses again will be to start the game again from the beginning.

How to avoid missing Horizon’s only missable trophy – All Machines Types Scanned Guide
Don't forget to scan this rare machine.

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the year's most anticipated PlayStation exclusives, and with players finally exploring the Western Wilds on their own, they have plenty of opportunities to enjoy this open-world game and snag an easy Platinum Trophy in the process. There is, however, one missable trophy in Horizon Forbidden West.
Be advised : this article contains spoilers for the campaign of Horizon Forbidden West. Proceed with caution.
One machine can only appear during Horizon Forbidden West's campaign: Specter Prime . Specter Prime is the game's final boss and serves as the only opportunity players have to encounter the creature. Should players fail to scan the Specter Prime, they'll have to play the game up to the final boss once more. Make sure to use your Focus at the beginning of the encounter to examine the creature before fighting. You'll have to scan Specter Prime each time you die , as scans don't transfer after a Game Over.

All other machines are in Horizon's open-world, with many waypoints and map markers listing the areas that each creature frequents. Once players scan all unique machine types, the All Machine Types Scanned trophy will pop, moving players along on their trophy hunt.

A highly-advanced combat machine that assists Aloy's main adversaries in their secret plans, Specters are never found in the open world but crop up in an array of main and side missions. That means that you can miss the 'All Machines Types Scanned' trophy if you don't scan a Specter before completing the Singularity quest . Aloy will encounter them for the first time during the Death's Door mission, where they make a big entrance alongside their engimatic leaders.

Specter Attacks
- Cannons - A pair of cannons emerge from the Specter's back, firing lightning-fast projectiles at Aloy
- Tail Whip - The Specter uses its tail to inflict severe melee damage, knocking Aloy down.
- Fire Dive Bomb - The Specter leaps into the air and dives at Aloy, inflicting significant fire damage and leaving a trail of fire behind it.
- Wall Mount - The Specter jumps to a nearby wall, using the elevated vantage point to fire at its opponent.
- Regeneration - The Specter summons back all of its missing armour, shield several core weak points.
Tips and Tricks for Defeating a Specter
Specter machine guide.

Unlike any other machine, the Specter has the ability to regenerate armour, making it a tough opponent that you need precision and speed to defeat. As such, the strategy here is to break through its shielding and focus on nailing certain weak points before it has time to regenerate its shields.

Make sure you're using cover whenever the Specter's pulse cannons emerge from its back , getting shots on them to deal incremental damage. If the Specter moves towards you, it's also worth making sure you're ready to dodge, as its melee abilities hit hard . It's best to generally stay out of range and hit it from afar, as the Specter won't take kindly to you getting up in its face.

The parts we're aiming for mostly are the shock unit , the resource repository , the vector thruster , the plasma unit and the control nexus . The shock unit can be found beneath the armour at the front of the Specter and the plasma unit can be found behind the armour at the back, with both detonating and inflicting a lot of damage if hit with an arrow of the same elemental type . These are a good way to chip off a lot of health early as they're some of the easier components to hit.

With those done, you can either play it safe or risky. If you want to slowly but surely finish off the Specter, aim for the resource repository beneath the armour on its sides or the vector thruster by its cannons, knocking off the armour and hitting them before it can regenerate. However, if you're looking to end the battle quickly, get behind the Specter and try to hit the control nexus right beneath its tail. It'll deal a ton of damage, ending a Specter fast.

To make the fight easier, it's wise to make sure you're taking out the cannons ASAP, as these will be the weapon it relies on most. You can also attempt to disrupt its regeneration powers by hitting the regeneration unit beneath its head, although it can be finicky to hit.
All Specter Locations

As mentioned before, Specters cannot be found in the open world . However, the list below will tell you every mission where you'll be able to find and defeat one.

Specter Loot
Although Specters aren't a common foe in Horizon Forbidden West, they have some great resources to loot upon their defeat. Here are the rarest bits and pieces found on a Specter's remains.
- Crystal Braiding (Used for crafting special arrows)
- Luminous Brainstem (Used for upgrading high-tier weapons and outfits)
- Volatile Sludge (Used for crafting powerful ammunition types)
There are no exclusive resources found on Specters . Below you'll find all the Specter loot you can potentially find.
The body is the main component of the Spectre. It can always be looted once the machine is defeated.
Pulse Cannon
The pulse cannon can be found on the Specter's back. It must be detached if players want to use it.
The shock unit can be found beneath the nano plating on the Specter's face. It must be left intact if players wish to loot it.
Resource Repository
The resource repository can be found in four sections on the Spectre's torso covered by nano plating. It must be detached if players want to loot it.
Vector Thruster
The vector thruster can be found just beneath the pulse cannon and is covered in nano plating. It must be detached if players want to loot it.
Plasma Unit
The plasma unit is found beneath the Spectre's tail. It must be left intact if players wish to loot it.
Control Nexus
The control nexus is found beneath the Spectre's tail. It must be detached if players want to loot it.

Horizon Forbidden West: Specter
February 17, 2022 by PowerPyx Leave a Comment
Specter is a Machine (Monster) that you can scan and fight in Horizon Forbidden West.

Type: Combat, Midweight
Characteristics: A highly advanced, mobile combat drone. Its gold armor-like plates can morph into highly lethal weapons and can gravitationally reattach when torn off.
Overrides: Not available
- Specters are only found during Main Quest 5: Death’s Door , Main Quest 10: Cradle of Echoes , Main Quest 17: Singularity . Alternatively, you get another chance in Side Quests “ Valley of the Fallen ” and “ What Was Lost ” for more Specters. Scanning this Machine is MISSABLE! It doesn’t spawn anywhere else outside of these quests (also doesn’t appear in the Arena or Hunting Grounds). It has no spawn location in the open world. If you just finished the story and forgot to scan it, see if you still have an autosave from the last story mission, to reload and potentially still scan the machine. It also counts if you scan it in New Game+ in case you forgot it during the first playthrough.
- In the Burning Shores DLC you encounter Specters during Main Quest: For His Amusement (optional objective to defeat them). So if missed during the main game you get another chance there.
Weak Against:
- Acid Damage
- Plasma Damage
Strong Against:
- Fire Damage
- Shock Damage
- Purgewater Damage
Body Parts:
- Pulse Cannon
- Resource Depository
- Regeneration Unit
- Vector Thrusters
- Plasma Unit
- Control Nexus
- Metal Shards
- Crystal Braiding
- Piercing Spike
- Machine Muscle
- Braided Wire
- Sturdy Hardplate
- Useable Weapon (detach Pulse Cannon on top of it)
- Volatile Sludge (detach Resource depository)
- Luminous Brainstem (detach Resource depository)
- Specter (no variants)

Series creator Aaron Korsh is in development of a Suits offshoot for NBCUniversal , sources tell Deadline. Deals are still being negotiated, but I hear the project is expected to be fast-tracked with a serious commitment.
This is not a revival or reboot and, unlike the 2019 Pearson , the new legal procedural is not a spinoff either — it would be a Suits universe series in the vein of the CSI and NCIS franchises featuring new characters in a new location, sources said. I hear Los Angeles is a backdrop considered for the workplace drama.
Like is the case for most NBCUniversal development, a network or platform for the potential new series has not been determined yet. The original Suits and spinoff Pearson both aired on the company’s USA Network. They were produced by UCP, part of Universal Studio Group. I hear UCP, where Korsh was based for many years with back-to-back overall deals, is in discussions to produce the new offshoot. Korsh is expected to executive producer alongside David Bartis and Doug Liman who were EPs with him on the original series. A rep for NBCU declined comment.
Suits centers on famous litigator Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) who, impressed by university expellee Mike Ross’s (Patrick J. Adams) photographic memory and skills, brings him to the prestigious law firm he is a partner at.
The last hit from USA Network’s Blue Sky golden era, the series, which also stars Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres, was popular in its day, making it to nine seasons and spawning a short-lived spinoff, Pearson , headlined by Torres. It transitioned to streaming and was available on Prime Video and Peacock for years until, in an unassuming, modestly priced ($200K-$400K an episode) second-cycle non-exclusive deal, Netflix this year took in the first eight seasons of the show, sharing them with Peacock.
What followed was nothing short of a lightning in the bottle. Possibly fueled by curiosity over Markle’s final role before becoming a British royal and helped by the series’ breezy, addictive storytelling and memorable characters as well as a launch in the summer when popcorn fare has always thrived, Suits has exploded in popularity and last week surpassed Ozark for the most No. 1 overall finishes in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 ever.
Even Suits creator Aaron Korsh seems a little stunned by his series’ runaway success in its second life.
“I always thought we were underestimated, but it turns out, even I underestimated #Suits,” he wrote in a retweet of Deadline’s story on the latest streaming record broken by his show. “It’s good to be the King.”
Korsh is repped by UTA, Dennis Kim at Literate and attorney Mitch Smelkinson.

7 movies to stream right now on Netflix, Prime Video, Max and more
Mission Impossible, It Follows and more movie night hits

Another weekend is here, and with it the same question that plagues the VOD era: What to watch? With so many great options that are new on Netflix , Disney Plus and other streaming services , narrowing down the best movies is no small task.
So let us do the work for you. We've curated a list of the seven best movies to kick off your weekend; it's a mix of old and new that's sure to have something for everyone. And since we're getting close to Halloween, we'd be remiss not to include a scary movie or two. The cult classic horror movie It Follows has returned to Netflix, or you can catch Michale Keaton's iconic performance in Beetlejuice on Max for something a little more "spooky vibes" and less "nightmare fuel."
As far as new movies go, Tom Cruise is back in another high-stakes adventure in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which hits premium video on demand, while Jamie Foxx battles wits in the courtroom in the legal dramedy The Burial on Prime Video.
Here are our top picks for what to watch on streaming this weekend.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Digital)
Tom Cruise is back as cinema’s greatest superspy, Ethan Hunt. The seventh installment in the long-running blockbuster franchise, and the first half of a two-part saga, Dead Reckoning Part One sees Hunt and his team — Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) — return for all the high-octane car chases, daring stunts, and elaborate fight sequences you'd expect.
This time around, the crew is crisscrossing the globe in search of two interlocking keys that, when combined, grant access to a deadly artificial intelligence dubbed “the Entity." Just about every nation on the planet is racing to get their hands on this thing, including a ghost from Hunt's past. Sure, the story is on the ridiculous side, but that matters little when the film is so damn fun .

The Burial (Prime Video)
From a heart-stopping action thriller to a lively courtroom drama. Jamie Foxx's charisma is in full force in The Burial, where he stars as the rich and flashy Florida attorney Willie Gary.
In this legal dramedy loosely based on a true story, Willie represents the cash-strapped local business owner (Tommy Lee Jones) of a Mississippi funeral home in a bid to take on a corporate "deathcare" behemoth. Its two lead actors are joined by a first-rate supporting cast, with Jurnee Smollett as Gary's female counterpart for the defense and Bill Camp as the villain, a corrupt corporate bigwig threatening a family business. It's the type of David vs. Goliath crowd-pleaser that you’ve likely already seen before, but its smart writing and performances may just win you over all the same.

Beetlejuice (Max)
The Beetlejuice musical may be making headlines for unexpected reasons, but Max has the Tim Burton classic just in time for Halloween. But be quick about it: It's leaving the streaming service at the end of October.
Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis play Adam and Barbara Maitland, a recently deceased couple cursed to spend the next 125 years haunting their old home. When Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), Delia Deetz (Catherine O’Hara) and Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) suddenly move in and turn their house into a pastel nightmare, they call in Michael Keaton's Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice), a scummy, bug-eating ghoul and "bio-exorcist," to scare them away. The eccentric characters and quirky, gothic visuals have made this spooky comedy into a cult classic. And one that's definitely worth revisiting this spooky season.

Sicario (Prime Video)
Before Denis Villeneuve took on Dune and Blade Runner 2049, the master of thrills knocked it out of the park with one of his earlier Hollywood forays: Sicario. This crime thriller stars some of the best actors working today, including Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin, in a gripping drama that plays out amid an escalating drug war along the U.S.-Mexico border.
After a raid on a Sonora Cartel safe house turns deadly, FBI agent Kate Macer (Blunt) joins a secretive government task force led by enigmatic CIA agent Matt Graver (Brolin) and Mexican operative Alejandro Gillick (Del Toro). As Kate gets increasingly wrapped up in their dangerous operations hunting down the cartel's leaders, she begins to doubt her own moral compass and questions whether the ends justify the means.

It Follows (Netflix)
One of the most acclaimed horror movies of the last decade, It Follows returns to Netflix just in time for spooky season. Its premise is as simple as it is terrifying: a supernatural entity relentlessly stalks its victims.
But instead of hiding under beds or lurking in corners, this monster simply follows, disguised as anyone under the sun. This gives the movie's gorgeous wide shots a pervading sense of tension as you begin to eye every background character with suspicion. The only way to rid yourself of this curse is to have sex with another individual to pass the nightmare onto them, and that’s the impossible choice that protagonist Jay (Maika Monroe) faces.
It Follows is also eerie for its timelessness. The odd tech and gadgets seen throughout the film place feel both familiar and alien, placing it outside of any real place on the timeline, and the kids don't exactly use any slang that makes the movie feel modern or old.

It's Nicolas Cage as you've never seen him before in this modern monster tale. Nicholas Hoult stars as the titular Renfield and long-suffering servant to Cage's Dracula, who, after centuries of servitude to the worst boss ever, sets off to find a new life outside his master's shadow.
Renfield packs in well-wrought absurdity that, with a 93-minute runtime, manages not to overstay its welcome. While Cage technically plays second-fiddle to Hoult's Renfield, he easily steals the show in every scene he's in, with fangs bared, overdramatic flourishes and a ridiculous vampire get-up.

Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) are a hotshot power couple both working at the same cutthroat financial firm in New York. Fresh off their secret engagement, a coveted promotion threatens to drive a wedge between the loved-up pair. As the personal and professional power dynamics begin to shift between the two lovers, it’s more than just their relationship that turns sour, and the true price of success becomes clear as both parties display an unnerving desire for success.

Belt and Road initiative meeting: China's pitch of an alternative world will guide its response to the Israel-Hamas war
While it has remained incredibly tight-lipped over the precise guest list, Egypt's Prime Minster Mostafa Madbouly is known to be in Beijing, as are senior figures from the government of the UAE and crucial players in the Middle East.

Asia correspondent @HelenAnnSmith0

The gathering in Beijing of senior leaders from over 140 countries has been months in the planning, but the timing now feels very prescient.
Ostensibly, the purpose is to celebrate 10 years of China's flagship 'One Belt One Road' initiative.
It's a programme that's seen China invest more than $1tn to build roads, bridges, dams and railways in countries that wouldn't otherwise have been able to afford them.
In exchange, China has extended its influence enormously both economically and politically, never mind that some more vulnerable nations have been plunged into debt they cannot repay.
This forum was always about lauding the successes of the programme and solidifying the alliances it has enabled, but it is also about China sending out a message: that it can offer a new type of global leadership and it is not just ready but willing to step into roles that might have historically been filled by the United States.
Indeed, the presence of Middle Eastern leaders in Beijing while a crisis unfolds back home offers China the perfect opportunity to enforce this pitch.

While it has remained incredibly tight-lipped over the precise guest list, we know that Egypt's Prime Minster Mostafa Madbouly is in the Chinese capital, as are senior figures from the government of the UAE.
Other crucial players in the Middle East such as Lebanon, Iran and Saudi Arabia are also signed up members of the Belt and Road initiative.
The fact that some have chosen to be here at such a critical moment should not be underestimated.

Indeed, China has enjoyed some success in Middle Eastern diplomacy.
It was just this year that it successfully brokered a deal to re-establish relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia - no mean feat and one lauded as a huge diplomatic achievement.
But the Israel-Hamas war is built on deeper and more intractable issues, in a region where China has little history of involvement.

It's telling that it's been America's secretary of state, not China's who has toured the region in recent days meeting with stakeholders.
But nonetheless, China's influence is significant and it's growing, based, in large part, on extensive economic ties.
Russia's Vladimir Putin is in Beijing too this week, a willing partner in China's pitch of an alternative world to the one offered by the West.

It is this vision that has held China back from criticising the invasion of Ukraine, it will likely also guide its response to what now unfolding in the Middle East.
