Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain offers a lot of rewards to players who take the time to get rich. Here's how to rake in the GMP as quickly as possible.

Players don't need to be filthy rich to have a good time in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain , but rolling in GMP certainly doesn't hurt anything. Building up an excess of the in-game currency allows players to upgrade equipment and bring more customization to the game, which both lead to additional rewards. Players who take the time to earn some GMP in the best-selling game and purchase upgrades will likely start earning higher ratings and finding more resources. Also, it's just kind of fun to be loaded.

Unlike some other games, getting rich in Metal Gear Solid 5 doesn't actually require too much of a grind at all. It will definitely take some work, but really players just need to approach the regular parts of the game with profit in mind. These steps should help new players get a better idea of how to get the most bang for their buck every step of the way through MGS5 .

S-Rank Story Missions

The Metal Gear franchise has rewarded stealthy players since the old days and MGS5 is no exception. Players who achieve S-Rank in a story mission are rewarded with a 20% GMP bonus. Chances are, most players won't score the S-Rank on the first time through a mission unless they are really trying, but it's actually not that hard to pull off. The trick to locking in the high rating is a careful combination of speed and stealth. Ghosting these missions is the way to go if you are looking for the 20% GMP bonus. Stay out of sight and move quickly, soldiers.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is filled to the brim with additional content and the majority of that busywork offers significant reward. The game boasts upwards of 150 side missions and players are rewarded with precious GMP for completing each one. The payout for each side mission varies, but players who stick with them will be rewarded greatly in the later missions. The payout may seem like chump change in the game's first few hours, but by the late game Side Ops will be paying out up to 300,000 GMP. We recommend getting started on these as early as possible.

Deploy the Troops

Players will spend a lot of time and effort recruiting soldiers and bringing them back to Mother Base throughout the game. As a reward for those efforts, players are able to send the soldiers out into the world to do the dirty work for them. This feature works similar to what we're seen in other games (kind of like the fleet in Black Flag ), where players can save time by sending troops out and just waiting for them to bring back rewards. This isn't the way to build up GMP the fastest, but it definitely is the method that requires the least amount of work.

Be a Rock Collector

Stopping to pick up rocks may slow Snake down a bit in the middle of missions, but the effort is worth it when some Rough Diamonds are worth up to 100,000 GMP. Most of the stones won't be worth that much, but for the minimal effort it takes to pick them up, it's worth it to slow down and grab any that you manage to spot. Players can get a hold of extra Rough Diamonds by interrogating enemy soldiers. The goons will give up their stones as they crack under the pressure and basically hand you free money. The stones don't all come with the highest price tag, but they are the best way to get cash without going out of your way.

Making GMP in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain isn't super hard, as long as you're willing to put in a bit of groundwork. With plenty of GMP on hand, you can quickly upgrade your equipment and customise your approach to the battlefield - resulting in potentially higher ratings, more discovered resources, and a generally good time. Here are our top tips for raking in the cash.

Achieve S-Rank on story missions

Managing to score an S rating on a Story Mission nets you a whopping 20% GMP bonus. That's well worth the effort it takes to achieve, especially as getting those elusive S Rank mission end screens may not be as hard as you think it is.

The best way to improve your rating on any given missions is to focus on speed and stealth - ghosting a mission in record time will push your rating up considerably. Learn patrol routes and make a speed run dash for the goal without being detected.

Otherwise, you can earn higher scores by not using Reflex Mode, landing headshots (with a non-lethal weapon, of course; we're ghosting) and interrogating baddies.

Do Side Ops

This should be obvious, but doing non-essential missions will earn you more rewards for use in prepping yourself for the main story missions. There are 150 Side Ops missions and all of them offer a GMP reward.

The payout varies depending on difficulty and mission details, but whether you're extracting prisoners or clearing mines, you can expect later Side Ops to bring in a tasty 300,000 GMP.

You're also missing out on a huge chunk of interesting content if you skip Side Ops, so make the effort.

Collect Rough Diamonds

One of the easiest ways to make money, if not the most reliable, are Rough Diamonds. Pick up any you see - the value of these low-effort collectibles ranges up to 100,000 GMP.

In addition to Rough Diamonds found scattered throughout missions and the general field, you can secure a good supply by interrogating enemy soldiers. It's really worthwhile mining these guys for information, isn't it? Ah ha ha.

No seriously: collect the damn rocks. It's one of the most efficient ways to get yourself cashed up as you pursue other goals.

Send your staff out on Combat Deployments

Why should Snake do all the work? You've spent all this time assembling a crack team, so send them out into the field to pay back the cash you spent Fultoning their asses back to Mother Base. You can send two soldiers on missions to begin with, and can unlock the ability to deploy more by constructing Forward Operating Bases.

Note that there is an element of risk with this one - your soldiers can be killed on missions. The best way to avoid this is to send your best troops on missions with high success rate projections.

Although it takes some work to get your team together, this method is one of the most low-effort and efficient methods of raking in GMP we've found so far. Just get on with your life while others make money for you. What's not to love?

How To Earn GMP currency

• Go on Side OPs. These are short, non-essential missions which will reward you with GMP, among other things.
• Send staff on Dispatch Missions. They do the work, you take the prize. It’s the best thing ever. You’ll need a Combat Unit Platform at Mother Base, though.
• Look for rough diamonds. There’s hundreds of them scattered across the maps. Most of them are worth a paltry 10,000 GMP, but there are some that go for a 100,000 GMP. They’ll even appear on Mother Base platforms at times.
• Sell what you don’t need. Every piece of equipment you Fulton out of the field can be sold. Raw materials can be sold. Medicinal plants can be sold. Sell the stuff you’re not using if you’re short on cash.

How can I sell the staff I don’t need?

You can’t sell staff since, but you can fire them. Go to staff management, select the units you want to get rid of, then “move” them to the dismiss option instead of one of the units.

Most of the time you won’t need to dismiss people since new staff replace the lowest rank staff first.

Thanks SL, but if you have a look to last sentence of above text “Sell the stuff you’re not using if you’re short on cash”?!

Selling equipment is now discouraged since pretty much everything contributes to your durability, offensive capability, and defensive capability for PF rank battles. Accumulating equipment means you’ll get into higher rank battles and earning more PF points sooner, which can get you S++ staff.

Essentially it’s an unlimited money method. Here we show you how to easily farm GMP (short for Gross Military Product) in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, which is the game’s currency. Need a little spare change? Check out these Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain tips.

Your GMP (Gross Military Product) indicates the economic status of Diamond Dogs. – Ways of gaining GMP include completing missions or selling weapon emplacements and vehicles extracted from the area of operations. Activities such as developing new equipment consume GMP.

How to Make Money in Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain? This is done by managing Mother Base and raking in cash through Combat Deployment and quickly gaining resources.

Tip: To visit Mother Base, select it as a destination from the [MISSIONS] tab while in the Aerial Command Center (your customized helicopter).

Next are key strategies on how to make even more GMP currency:

• Money Method #1: The video guide above focuses on Mother Base leveling up and Combat Deployment to rake in the cash. With the exception of Snake, Diamond Dogs staff can be sent out on missions through the Mother Base facilities. Open “COMBAT DEPLOYMENT” from the “MISSIONS” tab. After selecting a mission from the list, choose the unit’s formation. Once a set period of time has passed, the mission results will be displayed. If the mission is successful, you’ll receive a reward. – Be aware that staff sent on missions may be hospitalized or killed, and vehicles may be destroyed. – You cannot personally control units you dispatch. But don’t worry, they’ll be back in a little over an hour.

• Money Method #2: In the area of operations, materials can be found both in a processed form, or unprocessed in shipping containers. These grey materials containers can be airlifted out of the middle of your mission by attaching a Fulton balloon to them.

• Money Method #3: Processed materials can be used for purposes such as developing new equipment, or they can be sold for GMP. These processed materials are essentially red & white colored oil canisters found on the battlefield that indicate they are a ‘Fuel Resource’ when you go to pick them up.

• Money Method #4: Unprocessed materials can also be obtained through the Base Development Unit’s “Materials Procurement” (automatic mining) function. Once these are processed, they can then be used as processed materials. As the Base Development Unit’s level goes up, the amount of materials procured increases and processing time shortens. – This is key to farming GMP in large amounts.

• Money Method #5: When you obtain rough diamonds, they can be converted to GMP. Collect Raw / Rough Diamonds (raw materials you can gather around the map) to gain money. Raw / Rough Diamonds are scattered throughout the landscape and when you pick them up, they get sent back to Mother Base. They add to the GMP, the game’s currency, which can be used to upgrade your base and develop new items & equipment.

How to Make Lots of Money in Metal Gear Solid 5

Earn more GMP in The Phantom Pain by collecting rough diamonds, beating Side Ops and achieving S Ranks.

Today’s feature will tell you how to earn lots of money, otherwise known as GMP (Gross Military Product) in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Players need to amass sizable amounts of this virtual currency to get the most from Konami and Hideo Kojima’s video game. Not only do you need GMP to use the Fulton Recovery Device for extractions, but Mother Base upgrades require it as well. A bit short on cash? Read on to see the best ways to earn more GMP in MGS 5. 

Beat Side Ops 

Unlike the lengthy story missions, these optional quests don’t take nearly as long and feature simple objectives. In most cases, you will need to take out an enemy soldier, armored vehicle or rescue a prisoner, easily achieved with your skill set.  MGS 5 contains approximately 150 Side Ops and you stand to make a lot of GMP the more you complete. At the beginning, expect to make somewhere in the 30,000 GMP range, but later on you will routinely add 200,000 and 300,000 for later missions. In our opinion, the worst part of Side Ops is the traveling, but on the positive side, this gives you the chance to sight see through Afghanistan and Africa. Don’t worry about the time involved. The rewards are well worth the effort. 

Collect Rough Diamonds 

No sane person would leave paper currency on the street, and by that same logic, you should always pick up rough diamonds while playing The Phantom Pain. Besides, it’s free money! You won’t have to kill anyone or complete a mission per se.  In fact, sometimes interrogated soldiers will reveal diamond locations, which gives you an added incentive to take the stealthy route through the game.  Depending on the diamond’s size, you could make 10,000 to 100,000 GMP. 

Deploy Troops on Combat Missions 

Once you gain the option of enlisting soldiers to your cause, make sure you send these guys on Combat Deployments. No babysitting required! You’re able to pick and choose who goes where, then proceed on your way while these virtual warriors do all the dirty work.  You start off with the ability to have two teams active, then even more after building Forward Operation Bases. There’s a chance some of these people will die, but you can pick and choose missions based on survivability, or risk everything and hope they get the job done. The more they succeed, the more GMP you earn. 

Get S-Ranks on Story Missions 

The majority of primary missions in The Phantom Pain award you with scores upon completion, with S Ranks the highest. You obtain an S Rank from being as stealthy as possible, then adding bonus objectives to increase your total. This includes silently taking down enemies with headshots, completing the mission without activating Reflex Mode and doing successful interrogations. In fact, the worst thing to do is come out firing, so holster the primary weapon for now and think about the best way to finish a particular mission without alerting all of the enemies. Think beforehand, carry out the plan and all of that sweet GMP will be yours.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has a currency system which is tied to every aspect of the game. From sending Snake on missions, upgrading Mother Base and developing weapons and equipment in Big Boss’s arsenal, it’s going to cost some cash.

In order to keep you in the black, VideoGamer has put together some tips and tricks to help earn GMP quickly and make sure you always have enough cash to buy the weapons you want, and to upgrade them when needed to complete the mission.

How to save money on missions

Before you even jump in the chopper, you get the chance to kit out Snake in an array of weapons, equipment and items. However, it’s worth noting that the more gear you pile onto Snake, the more expensive the mission becomes.

In the bottom left of the screen, you’ll notice a display which shows the cost of dispatch, which takes into account all the gear currently selected, as well as the buddy. This will be in the form of GMP and resources. The main expense will be cash, but fuel, minor metals and other resources will also be accounted for.

If you’re only doing a quick side op try taking as little equipment as possible , making the mission an actual worthwhile investment. It’s no good making the cost of equipment more than the reward of the rescue itself.

Every piece of equipment you select in the menu will display a cost next to it. Obviously, the more advanced the gear, the more expensive it’ll be.

To save money, stop getting in the helicopter

If you have five side missions to complete in Afghanistan, rather than jump into the chopper at the end of each mission, consider riding D-Horse or D-Walker to the next mission area.

Calling the chopper in costs GMP and resources, as does dispatching Snake back to Afghanistan to the next mission zone.

Before you jump to a location, see what missions are in the nearby area, and try to land equipped to complete a couple of ops in a single run. This will help keep Outer Heaven in the black and free of debt. Being able to do a few missions on a single trip will help save money in the long run.

Upgrade the Fulton as often as possible

Upgrading the Fulton will allow you to extract weapons, vehicles and importantly, supply crates. While larger extractions become more expensive, they’re worth it. Even if you have no use for, say, a truck, the 10,000 GMP extraction is offset by the 20,000 GMP sell-on price.

Whenever you see a sole truck wandering the barren lands, it may be worth trying to pull off a sneaky heist to make a quick buck.

Keep deploying your combat units

As soon as your combat units return from a mission, redeploy them. Even if you’re on a mission, open up the iDroid as quickly as possible and send them straight back into the field.

Combat units are an excellent way to make money, but the downside is missions progress in real-time, and only while you’re playing the game. So if a mission is listed as taking 90 minutes to complete, you’ll have to play the game for that long before that unit returns.

Check the potential rewards for each mission, the likelihood of said rewards being earned, and the likelihood of success, as well as the potential losses. Choose whichever ones offer the biggest payout and resources you need most.

How to improve your combat units

A quick way to upgrade your combat units is to develop weapons with green text. These weapons are equippable by your security units, so the more tooled-up they are, the better protected your FOB base will be.

When it comes to your troops that get sent on missions, simply continuing to send them on low-level missions will see them gradually improve and become ready for tougher tasks. Also continue to Fulton extract any soldiers you find on the field with high grades, as this will immediately improve your unit.

Upgrade the helicopter

It’s expensive, but having a top-of-the-line helicopter can mean the difference between mission success and failure. Depending on how you choose to approach the game, you can be as stealthy as Solid Snake in Metal Gear or as loud as Raiden in Metal Gear Rising. Sometimes you’ll find yourself in a sticky situation, and being able to call in a souped-up chopper with either the flare grenade or using your iDroid is a huge help. (Make sure you take out the anti-air emplacements, including the radar and any rocket launcher troops that may be on the ground.)

Surprisingly, if the chopper blows up, it’s not that expensive, so as harsh as it sounds, sometimes it’s worth the loss if the chopper mows down a large number of enemies.

When in need of cash, sell precious metals

Precious metals are a resource in the game which can be sold for a lot of cash. You’ll slowly but surely accumulate a stockpile, and at least in the early hours of the game, won’t be needing them to build anything.

If you need an extra bit of cash to develop a weapon or further expand Mother Base, sell some of the relevant resources.

MGSV is unlike any Metal Gear you've ever played before - there are massive open environments to explore and a whole mercenary operation to build up and manage alongside the main story, so it can get quite complicated. Don't worry though, as The Phantom Pain is well-paced, unravelling its various systems slowly over time and gradually acclimating you to this beast of a game. But if you find yourself completely lost and you're looking for a little guidance, here are some handy Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain tips that should help you get your bearings relatively painlessly.

1. Your Int-Scope is your most important piece of kit; use it constantly

Right after the bizarre, mind-melting prologue mission, you're dropped into Afghanistan to seek out your old partner, Kazuhira Miller. Revolver Ocelot goes over a few basics with you before setting you off into the open world, including how to use your Int-Scope - which is just a fancy word for binoculars. Your Int-Scope isn't just a good way to look at distant places; by scouting out enemy and weapon emplacements, you'll tag them, marking them on your heads-up display for the duration of the mission. Tagging is a godlike boon, allowing you to keep track of troop movements even after you die or restart from the latest checkpoint. Use your Int-Scope constantly.

2. Don't worry about exploring until you get the Fulton

During your first mission, you'll probably get a twinge of wanderlust, as the wide-open deserts of Afghanistan beckon you to explore. But don't worry about that too much at first, because you're missing several vital skills and pieces of equipment to make the most of your excursions into the field. Just focus on your initial mission: find Kaz, and extract him via chopper. Once the mission is over, you'll be introduced to Mother Base, a massive, off-shore military facility, granting you the ability to research new gear and use Fulton balloons to conscript soldiers. That's when The Phantom Pain finally begins to open up, and exploration becomes a little easier.

3. Kills don't detract from your score as harshly here

In previous Metal Gear games, kills were greatly frowned upon, as even a single execution could completely ruin your mission ranking. The Phantom Pain bucks that trend: kills don't affect your final score nearly as much, giving you a bit more freedom in how you approach the game's myriad missions. Speed and stealth are the two things that matter most to attaining the elusive S-rank, so as long as you're quick and don't get spotted, you can usually leave a pile of bodies in your wake and still get a great mission score.

4. Find the interpreter as soon as you're able

So here's the thing: Big Boss kind of forgot how to speak Russian, thanks to the shrapnel embedded in his skull, and Revolver Ocelot isn't a great interpreter. This is a problem if you want to interrogate any of the soldiers you find milling around Afghanistan, as you won't be able to understand a lick of what they're saying. When you finish your first Main Op (after completing the Mother Base tutorial), you'll unlock the Side Op list which includes a crucial (yet optional) mission: find and Fulton (aka attach a balloon to their torso) a Russian interpreter. Do this immediately; this not only lets you comprehend what they're saying over the radio, but it also allows you to gather intel on hidden items and highly skilled soldiers when you hold them up.

5. Fulton EVERYONE when you first start out

Thanks to the events of Ground Zeroes, Big Boss' military empire has fallen apart, meaning you'll need to help him rebuild his army one person at a time. Now's not the time to be picky; knock out any soldier you can find with a tranquilizer dart or CQC, attach a balloon to their belt with the Fulton, and send 'em back home. Eventually you can upgrade your Int-Scope to analyze soldiers and see their rankings, allowing you to be a bit more choosy with who you Fulton, but don't worry too much about that until Mother Base nears capacity. Oh, and be careful not to Fulton anyone when a patrol's nearby, as enemy soldiers can and will investigate why their friends are being hoisted into the air by a giant balloon.

6. ...but don't bother trying to Fulton artillery or vehicles yet

While you can Fulton smaller animals and people without much issue, you won't be able to snag the many artillery cannons and vehicles you find until you upgrade your balloon a few times. Don't worry about this too much at the start, because it'll take you a several hours before you get to that point. Just keep a mental note of where you find them for later.

7. Keep an eye out for a tiny puppy

There's a cute wittle puppy running around Afghanistan, and once you find him, you can strap a Fulton balloon on him and send him back to base. This pup is DD, and once he grows up, he'll become one of your buddies on the field, helpfully marking enemy locations on your HUD. But he's not always in the same spot for everyone; I found him on a hill as I headed toward base #24 on the map, while someone else I talked to said they found him in a completely different spot. Just keep your ears perked up for high-pitched barks while you explore, and you'll find this friendly canine eventually.

8. Tell people to lie down and they'll stay down practically forever

There are a couple ways to incapacitate enemies. You can shoot them in the head (either with a tranquilizer dart or a bullet if you're looking for a more, ahem, permanent solution), you can get up close and CQC them into submission, or you can sneak behind them and hold them up by aiming at them with your weapon of choice. By holding down L1/left bumper, you can extract info from your hostage, make him call his friends over, or force him to lie down on the ground. That last option is a doozy: once they're down on the ground, they won't get up at all unless they're spotted by another soldier or you raise the alert status by getting caught. It's a really good way to keep soldiers out of your hair without wasting any ammo.

9. Ditch your horse about 150m away from your objective

Ocelot tells you to use your horse constantly during your time in Afghanistan, but your stallion is loud as hell and can be a bit unwieldy on uneven terrain. Make sure you dismount and leave your horse behind around 150m or so away from your objective, so you can make the rest of the trek on foot. It's slower, but you'll be much more quiet and more maneuverable without him.

10. Don't try to tranq a bear with your starter pistol while on foot

Yes, you can tranq and Fulton the animals you see, building up your own personal zoo back at Mother Base. And yes, that even includes bears. No, your starter tranquilizer is probably not strong enough to take one down without a few upgrades behind it. Besides, you can't Fulton it without a more powerful balloon anyway, so it's best to just run if you see a massive grizzly barrelling toward you.

11. Keep an eye on your available upgrades, and start building stuff right away

As you acquire soldiers, complete missions, and gather resources and GMP (the game's currency), you'll continue to unlock additional gear and equipment upgrades. If you bring up your iDroid, you can pick and choose what you want to research no matter where you are. At the start, if you see it, and you have the funds to build it, go ahead and build it. Things like smoke grenades, horse armor, and Int-Scope upgrades are vital as you build the foundations for your stealth-based empire.

12. ...but don't spend too much at once, or you won't have any GMP when you need it

Everything costs resources, from bringing gear into the field with you and abducting soldiers with your Fulton balloon, to requesting supply drops or even summoning your chopper to exfiltrate you from the field. If you don't have the resources, you can't do any of these very important things, so don't go overboard researching stuff you don't exactly need at the moment. Otherwise, you'll find yourself out of ammo and without the GMP to safely get yourself resupplied.

13. Call for supplies if you need 'em

When you start The Phantom Pain, you can't carry a whole lot of ammo, and your suppressors are incredibly weak, breaking after just a few shots. If you're not too great at aiming and shooting yet, this becomes a problem - especially since the tranquilizer doesn't come with a ton of darts. Luckily, you can hop into your iDroid anywhere on the field and summon a supply drop wherever you are. It costs a little GMP, but it's a great way to top off your supplies without putting yourself in danger. Make sure you get to the box before the enemy does, though, or your drop will be wasted.

14. The cassette tapes are where much of the backstory is located

You'll likely notice that The Phantom Pain's story feels somewhat sparse in comparison to other Metal Gear games. Sure, the intro's exciting, but once you get through a couple missions, you'll find the focus swings heavily onto its gameplay. If you're finding yourself missing out on all those codec conversations and long-winded monologues, don't worry: just listen to your cassettes. After completing each Main Op, you'll be rewarded with a ton of these recordings, which do everything from fleshing out the political backdrop, to revealing new details about old comrades. You can listen to them while hanging out in your chopper or taking on missions, so be sure to find some time to listen to them all.

15. Explore bases thoroughly and steal everything that isn't nailed down

You may be laser-focused on completing mission objectives, but don't forget that the various outposts and bases you explore are filled with tons of stuff to grab. Radios play 1980s hits that you can steal and listen to on your Walkman, posters adorn the walls of many buildings around Afghanistan, and rooms are filled with materials you can use to build additional gear and even new platforms for your Mother Base. If you're lucky, you'll stumble across POWs to rescue, or even weapon blueprints to give you an edge in battle. Don't just gun it straight to your objective and bail; take some time to look around a bit, and you'll find a ton of goodies, ripe for the taking.

16. The R&D platform should be your first priority when expanding Mother Base

After you've got a few missions under your belt, and a few upgrades completed, you'll unlock the ability to build new development platforms. These will grant you access to tons of additional features, and upgrading the ones you've already built allows you to assign more soldiers to each station. The first one you'll want is R&D, so you can start building bigger and better weapons and items, though you'll also want to build a Base Development platform so your crew can find and process materials while you play. You likely won't have enough materials for any of these when you first unlock the ability to construct them, so keep an eye out while you're sneaking around Afghanistan for additional supplies to bolster your Mother Base ASAP.

17. Know how to use your Phantom Cigar

Unlike other Metal Gear games, time progresses in a realistic fashion in The Phantom Pain, and guard placement will change as day shifts to night (and vice versa). There are benefits to both - it's easier to see during the day, but you might have an easier time sneaking around at night. You can choose what time you'd like to drop into the field from your helicopter, but if you're already mucking about, there's an easy way to change the time of day: simply puff on your Phantom Cigar. It uses the wormwood plants you'll pick up in the field, and by taking a drag on your e-cigar, you'll cause time to move forward quite rapidly. When you're done, simply unequip it by tapping left on the D-pad. Voila, time travel.

18. Blow up the anti-air radar (and anything with glowing lights) for an edge

As you infiltrate the encampments strewn about Afghanistan, you'll likely notice some larger pieces of equipment with blinking lights on them. The enemy uses radios to report in with one another, communication satellites to send messages to nearby bases, and power generators to run the lights. These can either be turned off or blown up, and will disrupt the enemy temporarily. Sometimes, you'll also find a giant anti-air radar just hanging out. Destroying it will permanently take it out of commission, and give your helicopter a new landing space nearby. Be mindful of your surroundings, and take advantage of whatever opportunity you get to cripple your foes.

19. Find delivery manifests to open up fast travel

The Phantom Pain doesn't tell you this until you've found your first leaflet, but some of the outposts you come across will have a yellow, triangle-shaped sign with a delivery manifest attached to it. Grab that, and you'll be able to use it as a fast travel point. Simply hop in a box, wait in the designated area, and you'll be whisked away to any other spot on the map you've unlocked. That way, you won't have to hoof it across the hot desert for miles, or summon your chopper if you want a faster way to get around.

20. Don't be afraid to run away

Metal Gear Solid 5 is hard. The enemy AI is brutal, and enemies will work together to counter your strategies at every turn. If you get spotted, you can only take a few hits before you're down for the count. So don't be afraid to run away, wait for the enemy's alert status to drop, send for some more supplies, and get your head back in the game before you make another attempt. Or, if you'd simply like a do-over, hit "Restore Previous Checkpoint" in your Options menu.
