Ghosting/ smearing of image.
I’m not sure if that’s the best description but it’s all I could think of. My screen starting kind of smearing the image and often times bouncing. I tried resetting nvram and smc and it didn’t work. I upgraded from Catalina to Big Sur and same issue. Any other things I could try?
under about this Mac mine says 2018 not late 2018 but that’s all I could choose when I looked it up. Probably the same model
Is this a good question?

Ouch! Not good ;-{
Your internal display has failed! Sadly, the T-CON logic within it is failing. This is what controls the scan of the image to the LCD panel.

Not as experienced with Mac repair and I’ve never seen anything exactly like this, I’ll follow this just to see what the issue ends up being.

Sadly, I've seen it a few times.

Too bad it’s not a known issue to happen more often. I just had my 2016 MacBook Pro fixed for free for a screen issue. ):
I appreciate the info @danj - that's a shame how much of a bother it is and how wildly expensive it is to replace.
Also, respect to you and your expertise - I'm new here but have seen you popping up everywhere among the questions answered and guides. You're an inspiration.

Rather than using your camera to capture the screen, take a screen shot and post it here for us to look at. That will tell us if it's your LCD or the graphics card that's acting up. Screen shot = command - shift - 3 will save it as a file on your desktop.
A screen shot showed no defect - must be the LCD.

Can I restore a Ghost image of a Mac Mini onto a PC or laptop?
Can I make a Ghost image of a Mac Mini and restore it on my Dell 630 Latitude? Is it possible?
- intel-core2

No. A regular PC or laptop cannot run OS X out of the box.
Installing OS X on Windows is against the OS X EULA. You may only run OS X on Apple hardware. While this doesn't imply that it's technically impossible, it is not supported, and requires special hardware.
Plus, it probably requires a special "cracked" version of the OS X installer – so you cannot take an existing OS X installation and migrate it to a PC.

How to Ghost a Mac
By Bennett Gavrish
If you want to transfer all of the data from your Mac laptop or desktop to another Apple computer, the easiest way is to use the Disk Utility tool to create an image of your internal hard drive. This imaging process is sometimes referred to as ghosting, because the Norton Ghost application performs the same functionality for Windows-based computers. Since Norton Ghost is not available for the Mac OS X operating systems, Mac users must use Disk Utility to ghost their computer.
Connect the external hard drive to a USB port on your Mac computer.
Insert the Mac OS X installation DVD into your computer's disc drive.
Reboot your computer, and hold down the "C" key on the keyboard when you see the Apple icon appear.
Select what language you want to use, then press the "Continue" button.
Open the "Utilities" menu at the top of the screen, and select "Disk Utility."
Highlight your computer's internal hard drive from the list of disks on the left side of the window. In most cases, the hard drive will be labeled as "Macintosh HD."
Go to the "Restore" tab within the Disk Utility window.
Drag and drop the internal hard drive icon to the "Source" field.
Drag and drop the external hard drive icon to the "Destination" field.
Press the "Restore" button to ghost your Mac computer by creating a full disk image of the computer and saving it to the external hard drive.

Hi, I want to be able to take a disk image of my MAC Mini. Is there a way that I can do this? In the Windows world I use Acronis True Image or Ghost. For example. I would like to erase my OSX, re-install it, add the applications and then take an image of it. So that if I ran into any problems, I would have a complete image that I could restore from I know I can restore the OS by going through the recovery option, but then I have to put all my apps back on and restore my data. I would prefer to take an image of everything. Thanks

On Mac you have this built-in with Disk Utility.

Carbon Copy Cloner will make a bootable clone of your drive. You can easily restore any or all items from that drive, or simply boot from it.

You could probably use CCC to clone the hard drive the way you want it to an external hard drive...then use that external hard drive to image computers whenever you need to. Might even work if you put it on a USB stick, but I haven't tried it that way.

Hello and welcome. Normally, that is related to screen burn-in. Can you upload a photo of the issue, as a screenshot will not capture hardware issues? C
It isn't always visible. Very faint when it is. Doubt if a camera would catch it. No big deal. Doesn't bother me. Thanks anyway.
- May 16, 2020
No worries. That issue can sometimes happen over time when the majority of your usage is with a browser and the window is always in the same spot. It doesn't necessarily need to be stuck on the screen for hours with a static image. Many Macs will show a ghosting of the menu bar after years of use, when displaying a solid color in full screen mode, because the menu bar couldn't be "hidden" before El Capitan. Be well, C

macOS Big Sur can't remove ghost icon from deleted application
I've deleted TextMate and its alias from Launchpad and Library - still have a "ghost" icon showing in all windows (see screenshot).

When I enter Launchpad that ghost icon (in last screen) won't delete even when the option key is held down and icon quivers.
If I scroll to first Launchpad screen the ghost icon automatically appears as the last item in that window, then auto-scrolls to next screen where ghost icon moves to last item again, etc. until it shows in the last Launchpad window by itself.
I've used AVG Cleaner with no change, ran the reindex option for Finder with no change.
Essentially, I can't use Launchpad since it auto-scrolls from any screen to the last screen with the ghost icon of "TextMate alias".
Any thoughts?

- I only see text, no icon, so it's probably just a graphical error. Have you restarted the computer? I know there's a file you can delete which has the organization settings for Launchpad, you might want to look into that. – At0micMutex Dec 7, 2020 at 0:15
- I was only able to post one image - the other images provide more details. Yeah - I've restarted and have re-indexed the system drive. – Beely Dec 7, 2020 at 6:35
- The above image shows just the application title "TextMate alias" with an empty image. Essentially, my list of LaunchPad application are not accessible because the Mac auto-scrolls through each "tab" leaving off at a separate window with just the icon ghost sitting there. – Beely Dec 15, 2020 at 0:34
- Oop - I did an Symantec AV update and the the ghost icon is gone, Launchpad behaves normally! – Beely Dec 15, 2020 at 0:39

"Ghost" image
When I use the Audacity (2.1.0) recording window, it creates an opaque white window behind it that remains on my screen after I move or close the recording window. It doesn’t do it every time, but fairly frequently. The only way I can seem to get ride of it is to close and reopen Audacity. I run OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 on an iMac. Can anyone help?
I’m pleased you didn’t start out the posting with: “I think I found a bug in Audacity.”
Bugs are very specific things.
the recording window.
What are you recording? Live microphone (which one?), YouTube sound tracks? Built-In Microphone?
You can’t make it go away, and you can’t intentionally cause it, right? Do you have any clue at all of the conditions, like it always happens after the third hour of recording? When was the last time you restarted your machine?
When it fails, what happens if you File > New to get a second window? Do they both leave graphic trash?
Have you tried cold reinstalling Audacity? Just re-installing doesn’t reset Audacity. They’re different.
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/preferences.html#reset
You should probably avoid this if you have a lot of custom settings and plugins. Do you? You can get plugins that cause odd behavior.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have tried opening a new window and while it doesn’t create another ghost block, the ghost from the first window remains after I close that window. Also, I can’t say that it happens with any regularity or schedule. It just seems to occur at times.
I think I’ve restarted my computer since I first noticed this, but I’m not sure. So I’ll do that immediately. If that doesn’t take care of it, I’ll try the new install. I don’t have any plug-ns or settings so there’s no danger of losing anything.
Again, thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Looking to ghost/image my perfectly working install. Ideas?

So I've finally got my machine perfectly where I want it. Hardware is working, apps installed, all the personal settings tweaked, etc. I was wondering if there is a preferred method of imaging an OSX drive so that if/when additional tweaking goes wrong, I can recover my system without the hassle of reinstall, reconfigure, etc. My machine is a dual OSX/Win 7, so if I can do all of this on the windows side, even better! Ideas? I have pretty good knowledge of using ghost from a previous IT lifetime, but have never used it for hackintoshes, obviously.

Are you wanting to dump an image of the drive? or just clone it to another drive? You can clone to another drive using either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper! Either one will clone your install to another drive. However afterwards you would need to install Chimera to the cloned drive to make it bootable. If you want to drop the drive to an image, you could try Clonezilla. It claims to support Mac OS HFS+ filesystems. I assume you would still need to install Chimera to a drive after restoring the image. I have used Clonezilla to image Windows 7 systems and its mad fast. Haven't tried it on a OS X install though.

#1 When I powered up my MacBook Pro today, I noticed an unsightly ghost image defect around the center of the display and especialy noticeable when the screen is blank.
