Strategy [ ]

Stay on the move and evade, as the Ghost's attacks are difficult to block. In particular, they may stretch their arms out and attack from behind. The player must stay alert as they explore the ruins, as ghosts can pass through any solid object, enabling them to attack through the floors, walls and even the ceilings. It is even possible for them to go through the fogwall leading to the boss in the area, so it is advised to either deal with them or dropping into the Abyss as quickly as possible as they will not follow the player there.

Ghosts stagger easily. Using a high-powered weapon can prove effective.

Like the Banshee , Ghosts can only be killed if the player is Cursed or if they're carrying a cursed weapon. Transient Curse allows temporary contact with Ghosts and Banshees without actually being cursed. It acts as a self augmentation effect and will prevent the use of other self augmentations, such as regeneration effects for health and stamina.

If the player is not cursed, they will not be able to interact with the Ghost in any way. This includes damaging it, of course, but also blocking it or just reducing the damage taken with armor. Furthermore, the Ghost's attacks will always stagger the player when not cursed, as they'll bypass armor, leaving the player poiseless .

Players can also use cursed weapons (such as the Jagged Ghost Blade or the Cursed Greatsword of Artorias ). While this allows contact with the Ghost, it will still leave the player unable to block with a shield or reduce damage taken with armor. Cursed weapons can also be used to block.

If possible, the most complete strategy is to use a Transient Curse but still use a cursed weapon. This makes it so that the player is not left completely defenseless, should the Transient Curse lose its effect at a bad time, or without the player noticing.

They are the ghosts of the people who once inhabited New Londo, but were sacrificed when New Londo was flooded to contain the Darkwraiths . [1] Their physical remains can be found at the big gate entrance leading to the Valley of Drakes .

New Londo Ruins

Your next stop on the quest for the Lord Souls is the New Londo Ruins. To get to the ruins, go down the stairs near the bonfire at the Firelink shrine past the Fire Keeper and go down the elevator.

If you didn't activate the elevator yet, you need to warp to Blighttown and go up the ladders next to the water wheel. When you reach the top, go across the plank to the ruins and into the building and pull the switch.

The Ruins are full of Ghosts that can only be defeated with a cursed weapon or if you are cursed yourself. Using Transient Curses is the most practical way of navigating the Ruins, but you run the risk of having the item's effect run out while you're in the middle of a battle. Using a cursed weapon works, but it forces you to equip yourself with something that is most likely not the most powerful weapon in your arsenal. Finally, you can go to the Depths and get cursed by a Basilisk, but that means you'll have to do your spelunking at half health.

Regardless of how you choose to tackle this problem, the actual navigation of the Ruins is fairly straight forward. As soon as you head out from the elavator if you should head to the left past three insane hollows you may be attacked by the Crest Fallen Knight. *The guy at the firelink shrine* if you talked to him enough throughout the game. He's not overly hard but if you're a melee character he does parry your attacks and do good damage with a stab especially if you're cursed. Now from where was look to the right from when you entered the yard and you'll see Estoic a rapier. As a side note if you're by the Drake's valley entrance you can move to a staircase that leads down by the cliff you'll find Rickert, a blacksmith of sorts only he specialized in magic weapons, and you can give him an ember to help him raise your weapon levels. Pick up the items at you move forward, including the Fire Keeper Soul at the beginning and the various Transient Curses throughout the Ruins.

The first two transient curses are with a guy in a pot as soon as you go down the staircase after fighting the night. The soul is located to the right hand side before you go up the stairs and past a small bridge where three ghosties will appear. Be careful as you walk back out because the camera sometimes glitches which could cause to to fall to a cheap death. Now as you continue on going up the stairs before coming to a medium sized room you'll find yourself surrounded by ghosties including one to your left when you see an currently non-working elevator. If you're willing to walk around a bit you'll see a corpse and a ghost in front of him containing the parrying dagger . Go through the first fog gate and kick down the ladder to create a shortcut to the beginning of the area.

Once you've crossed the bridge and made your way down the stairs into the large building, immediately turn around and run back up the stairs. This structure is full of Ghosts and narrow hallways, which make for a death trap. Back off and let the ghosts follow you into the open to take care of them on your own terms.

Once you've cleared out most of the enemies, head into the building and climb the ladder in the fireplace to obtain the Key to the Seal from Ingward He also can alleviate curse if you should need it. If you wish to explore a bit more you can head to the south part of the building where if you follow a path to the left you'll find a Green Titanite Chunk . If you go back into the building and continue on the way you'll find a composite bow , and a few arrows.

With the key in hand, head along the back wall of New Londo until you find the locked door. On the other side is a lever that will cause the massive doors to open and drain all of the water in the Ruins. This also opens up a path between New Londo and the Valley of the Drakes.

With the basement dry, your goal is now to navigate the lowest level until you find The Abyss. Don't go any further unless you've already defeated the wolf Sif in Darkroot Gardens. The ring you get from beating the beast is needed in order to reach the boss of the New Londo Ruin.

You can head down the stairs to the start of the bottom floor, or take a shortcut that will drop you off directly in front of the boss chamber. To reach the boss immediately, head back towards where you exited the ghost-filled building. If you look down, you'll notice the small circular building with a fog gate in front. You can drop down here, take minimal damage, and dash for the gate. If you're coming from firelink shrine start off by going your normal route, but don't go up the stair to the first building instead head to your right, and you'll find a small ledge you can drop down on, and then to the floor.

From there run straight ahead past a darkwraith and up the stairs to your left continue into the room and there will be an exit to your left. Than immediately look left to find the white fog.

Be careful as sometimes the Ghost will ender past the white mist and attack you if you're trying to recover your health. You'll be able to make it to the other side before any of the enemies have time to attack you. With that done, equip the Ring of Artorias and head down the spiraling stairs into the Abyss.

If you want to fully explore the base of the Ruins, head down to the gate near the Valley of the Drakes. This floor is full of quick and powerful Darkwraiths.

These undead knights are skilled swordsmen with the ability to conjure a impenetrable magic shield. Melee players should use caution and try to parry as often as possible. Magic users best bet is to try to sneak up on the Wraiths and hit them with a powerful spell before you're noticed.

After you've made a full circuit along the base, you'll eventually come to the white gate. Cross the threshold and equip the Ring of Artorias before descending the staircase.

Boss Fight: Four Kings

It's best to enter this battle with heavy armor and a full supply of Green Blossom, and any items that increase your stamina recovery. The key to winning this battle is to end it as quickly as possible. Spin around in the void until you spot the first King off in the distance. Run towards him and immediately begin attacking it with your most powerful weapons or spells. Using a Green Blossom will cause you to regenerate stamina incredibly quickly, allowing you to keep up your assault. Each King has about 2400 HP, or about a quarter of the boss' health bar.

The tough part of the fight is that another King will appear every 20 seconds or so, regardless of whether or not you've killed one. That means that if you aren't fast with assault, you'll quickly find yourself surrounded by numerous Kings.

As long as you have some tough armor equipped and your stamina is buffed, you can keep up the flurry of attacks until you've defeated four of the Kings and depleted the life bar. If you are having trouble find yourself the crest shield so that every time a king fires a magic spell off you can block the damage with 80% effective.

Your victory is rewarded with another Lord Soul and the appearance of a bonfire that will allow you to exit the Abyss.

Tip for Sorcerers

(Please note that before using this strategy you need to free Loghan from the Duke's Archive and buy the Homing Crystal Soulmass).

This is a very easy method of defeating the four kings for players with about 35 intelligence.

Before entering the fight you should equip a heavy armor (probably Havel's) and use the spell Homing Crystal Soulmass, this will give you a free hit on the first king. Once you're ready dive into the dark to start the fight.

Once you start the fight just keep using the Homing crystal Soulmass spell every time you can. each king should take 3 hits from a player with about 35 INT before being defeated so this way you can kill each king before the next one arrives which will make the battle considerably easier. Because your'e wearing a heavy armor you probably won't be able to dodge the boss' attacks so just block them every time you can (using stamina regenerating items could help). Each time you kill a king immediately cast the spell another time, this will give you a free hit on every king.

Using this strategy you should be able to take the four kings without too much trouble, for someone who is more of a spell caster.

How to Get / Where to Find the Ghost Blade

• Drops from Banshees  (1% chance - New Londo Ruins ). It does NOT drop from other ghosts, they drop Jagged Ghost Blades  instead.

Hints and Tips

• Can be given to Kingseeker Frampt  to receive 100 Souls.
• Ghost Blade can be upgraded by using Twinkling Titanite .
• R2 strong attack is changed to a double horizontal slash that can be followed up by a triple slash with an additional input.
• This weapon allows the player to damage Ghosts  and Banshees  in New Londo Ruins  without the need for Transient Curse . However, only the physical weapon will do damage; magic will not affect ghosts, even if this weapon is equipped, and the player will not be able to block ghosts' attacks with a shield.

Ghost Blade Upgrade Table

CONS: - very hard to drop (banshees are pretty rare compared to normal ghosts) - terrible scalling - not enchantable - no bleed or aux effects - not required for achievement - without upgrades still counts as +5 weapon in online matching PROS: + better basic damage than normal daggers + can damage ghosts So it looks like a kitchen knife and is as useful a kitchen knife.

Took around 9-10 runs with 410 item discovery, killing both banshees per run.

Took me less than 20 runs to get it with 410 discovery. Hard but doable.

This is the weapon I started with on my randomizer run, which is awesome because now I can actually get some use out it.

It is a fine weapon, if you actually get it at lower levels. But I didn't know it was this hard to get. I got it by accident when I went to that zone exploting. It was the first enemies of that zone that gave it to me. And I like it, but I use it more as a complement to the magic I use as a sorcerer. Honestly, it is not worth farming, but it is fine enough if you actually have it. In early game, 150 is pretty decent damage for such a light weapon.

Literally a piece of **** on a stick in terms of damage. Looks cool doe.

Don't farm this thing, You don't need it for the Knight's Honor trophy.

This thing randomly dropped during my soul level 1 run. Truly I am blessed by the kitchen knife gods.

I tried to farm with 10 humanity's and the ring, took me an hour and nothing. Then i just replaced the ring with the Sympol of Avarice instead and i got it immediately. So try that out guys.

why would i use this when i have the jagged ghost blade, which is easier to get, inflicts bleeding and has a higher damage when +5 than this one in +5. the only advantage between this and the jagged is that this one has critical and is a very little bit lighter than the jagged

Did an all dagger run (harder than you think) and figured I'd grab all 6, spent 4 hours trying to get it, gave up and beat the game, next playthrough (I was going for a magic/str pvp build) I got it on the FIRST ****ING BANSHEE, thank you dark souls

I've found a not terrible time to use it is if you're doing new Londo first at a low lv build for dark hand, if it happens to drop it's useful for that level, then just use the hand of succ

God damn. I farmed about 130 transient curses while trying to get this knife. Took a while even with 10 hum and the gold serpent ring.

My method for if you want to farm this rare item: (instructions are based on NG file) -Get 10+ Humanity -Equip Covetous Gold Serpent Ring -Have Symbol of Avarice ready to go (I start with it off, you can keep it on or put it on as you're about to get to the Banshees as I do) -Have a weapon that can quickly or easily 1-shot Ghosts. I used +15 Balder Side Sword (+Transient Curse) which 1-shots with any R1 attack (except following roll) -Be sure you've drained New Londo and have kicked the Aqueduct ladder down for the shortcut -Start at Firelink Shrine -Run downstairs and take the lift -Send the lift back up as you leave -Leap over the wall and run to New Londo -Consume a Transient Curse as you get to the end of the 2nd plank bridge -Kill the 2 Ghosts and run up the stairs -Kill 2 more Ghosts at the top of the stairs, then run off the edge/down the slope toward the Aqueduct shortcut -Climb up the ladder (Equip Symbol of Avarice as you climb for pro speedrunnner strats) -Run straight & down the stairs, through the doorway, running R1 to kill the rising Ghost, head right, follow the lip, running R1 to kill the Banshee, pray -Run back the way you came and follow the Aqueducts to the haunted funhouse. Ignore the Ghosts that follow from here -Drink up and enter the haunted house. Stay in the first room you enter, with all the pots. This is the most dangerous part by far - I kill all the Ghosts here before proceeding, as it usually takes a few seconds for a Banshee's drop to appear on the ground and I don't want to get overwhelmed before I can loot. Drink/R1 through the onslaught until they stop coming. Should only take a few seconds. -Run to the Banshee's room, running R1 to kill her and the 2 rising Ghosts, pray -Bone out, unequip Symbol of Avarice during your character's rising animation (MAXX pro speedrun timesaves), and repeat You should be operating at a profit of Transient Curses as you'll be killing a lot of Ghosts with 410 Item Discovery, or close. The Banshees also drop Transient Curses, which will give you a lot of false hope moments. Keep at it, this is one of the rarest farmable items ingame!

This weapon + ring of calamity + curse + dusk ring + soul level 1, sounds good to me.

It's cool looking and good for a collector, but a transient curse far out does the usefulness of a ghost damaging knife, and ghosts drop transient curses for me like spare change

Take a bandit knife, reskin it so it looks like a steak knife, replace the r2 with a slower*****tier slash attack, remove bleed altogether, and while your at it make it upgrade with twinkling titanite so you can only go to +5 with no elemental upgrades and remove the amazing dex scaling completely while making it have only 2 enemies in the whole game that have a chance of dropping it and make that chance 1% and you get the ghost blade. As bad as that all sounds I really like looking like a crack smoking murderer slashing and stabbing the ***** out of people with this kitchen knife, but keep in mind that the scaling is atrocious and with every level you add on after level 1 this weapon gets worse and worse due to the other options you can take instead but I love it on my scumbag darkbead lvl 10 character it hits like a wet noodle but can get the job done like a rapier tbh the way it handles makes it feel like the estoc of daggers but way *****ing harder to get and you dont get the bleed effect TD:DR way worse bandit knife with no bleed thats hard as ***** to get thats only really useful at extremely low levels when its going to be excruciatingly hard to get but looks cool and is rare but honestly not worth the grind unless your planning on staying around level 10

My completionist ass spent well over an hour farming for this weapon. Finally got it, upgraded it... and immediately put it in my storage box, lol. It's a butter knife that deals about as much damage as you'd expect, and cannot be buffed. But before storing, I did manage to kill the sentinels outside the Chamber of the Princess bonfire. Just took about ten minutes each, lol. It's a shiv designed for those who seek a REAL challenge, not for wusses like myself.

It can block ghost attacks too.

do not even think of using it. certainly one of dark souls' worst weapons
