How to use bogey in a sentence

The friendship is such that even in his disappointment after a bogey at 18 on Monday, even after riding out an interminable week interrupted by a hurricane, Rahm was waiting to congratulate Finau after he won in a playoff.

He then bogeyed two of the final four holes to miss a playoff with Finau and Cameron Smith by two shots.

The Spaniard had a chance to force a three-way playoff with Finau and Smith but made a bogey at No.

Much of the fun came from other people’s reactions to landing bogeys or particularly clean shots.

That day in Louisville was the day Rickie Fowler really thought he could win and felt the sting of nibbling closely and a 45-year-old Phil Mickelson wound up bemoaning that bogey on No.

The last two sentences quoted above seem to me needlessly bogey -hunting.

Note: This article has been corrected to note that bogey passed away in 1957, four years before The Jockey Club opened in 1961.

So dies the invasion of England bogey which, from first to last, has wrought us an infinity of harm.

"Bery good," said bogey , as he instantly disappeared through the gate.

Glancing up, he espied the black face of bogey looking down upon him.

bogey heard it also, and involuntarily put his hands on big stomach and made a comically wry face.

Just at this crisis bogey , with his eyes glaring and his white teeth fully exposed, thrust his black face from the foliage.

Recharged Jon Rahm eyes fourth Spanish Open title

  • Associated Press

MADRID -- With his "batteries charged" again after an exhausting Ryder Cup week, Jon Rahm is back home to try to surpass idol Seve Ballesteros with a fourth Spanish Open title.

Rahm matched Ballesteros' three titles by winning in Madrid last year, and he arrives as the favorite again this week after a successful -- yet emotionally grueling -- appearance at the Ryder Cup .

"The Ryder Cup week is different than any other. I was more mentally exhausted than I've ever been in any other Sunday that I've played," said Rahm, who won three points to help Europe defeat the United States at Marco Simone in Italy two weeks ago. "For me this week is very, very important. Last week obviously I wanted to enjoy the Ryder Cup win, but also rest to be with the batteries charged for this tournament."

Rahm will be making his fifth appearance in Madrid, with his victories coming in 2018, 2019 and 2022. Ballesteros won the last of his 50 titles on the European tour at the Spanish Open in 1995.

"It would be an honor to surpass Seve," Rahm said Tuesday. "Any time you get your name alongside Seve's name in the history of Spanish golf, it's a great honor for me. He's been the reference, and to get to four titles this quick would be incredible."

Third-ranked Rahm and No. 36 Justin Rose are the only players from the top 50 in the field this week at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Angel de la Torre was a five-time winner of the event, which had its prize fund nearly double from a year ago to $3.25 million. More than 40,000 spectators were on hand over the four days last year, and an even bigger crowd is expected this weekend with a holiday on Thursday in Spain.

"Obviously there is more pressure and more motivation to try to win at home," Rahm said. "They want me to succeed and I want to do well for them."

Rahm tried to distance himself from the controversies involving the U.S. team at the Ryder Cup, but said again that he would "pay to play" for Europe in the Ryder Cup if that was what it took. He also said he hopes to see Spain host a Ryder Cup soon, and that it would be a shame if Sergio Garcia couldn't be involved again.

The European tour stays in Spain next week with the Andalucia Masters.

Eddie Pepperell makes flying start in Madrid to ease fears over losing card

Eddie Pepperell overcame a “frustrating and bewildering” run of results to make a fast start at the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid as he battles to retain his DP World Tour card.

After two top tens in a three-week stretch following the summer break, the two-time DP World Tour winner arrived in the Spanish capital on the back of two missed cuts in his last three starts.

That left Pepperell lying 109th on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex , with the top 116 in the season-long standings following the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters later this month set to retain their playing privileges.

But the Englishman made a flying start at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, making an eagle, five birdies and a solitary bogey on the opening day to leave him in good spirits.

The fact that I can go out there and at least focus on my game, shoot six under [suggests] there’s definitely a few good rounds in me I think before the year is out.

"I have missed the last few cuts, albeit by quite close margins," he told the DP World Tour.

"I haven’t been playing terribly and before that I felt like I had been playing quite well.

“It’s been quite frustrating and bewildering to be honest, my golf lately. I feel like I should be doing better than I am.

"It’s a funny game, I have driven myself mad with it, but I am just trying to keep focused and forget about everything else. I do need a decent result to be honest.

"The fact that I can go out there and at least focus on my game, shoot six under [suggests] there’s definitely a few good rounds in me I think before the year is out."

Eddie Pepperell-1731414846

Beginning his day off the tenth tee, Pepperell made three birdies in his opening six holes before cancelling out a bogey at the 17th with a bounce-back birdie at the closing hole of his front nine.

He was flawless from then on, making an eagle on the par-five fourth and a birdie at the long seventh to share the early clubhouse lead alongside Mike Lorenzo-Vera at six under.

In typically honest fashion, Pepperell said his performance had come somewhat out of the blue after a “horrific” performance in the Pro-Am on Wednesday.

“I was a bit worried last night, woke up early and was thinking about all sorts,” he said.

“I had to focus my mind, had a decent warm-up, took it to the course and hit some decent shots. I didn’t play fantastic, but I scored pretty well.

“It was a good opening day and beat my expectations.”
