Best luxury yacht: 7 ultimate luxury cruisers you can buy

Toby Hodges takes a look at all the nominees and the winner of the best luxury yacht category in the European Yacht of the Year Awards

The definition of the best luxury yacht will differ according to personal opinion and from boat to boat. This year’s nominees in the luxury yacht category of the European Yacht of the Year Awards proved that perfectly.

The European Yacht of the Year awards are selected by a broad panel of expert judges from across the globe. These are people who spend their professional lives sailing and comparing yachts, so you can be certain that the yachts which stand out in this field are truly the best of the best on the market.

The best luxury yachts

Best luxury yacht winner 2024 – arcona 50.

When you enter the fiercely competitive 50ft luxury performance yacht market you better get it right. And the jury felt Arcona managed that. This watershed design for the traditional Swedish brand, by X-Yachts co-founder and former designer Niels Jeppesen, is a big, contemporary new Arcona, one that sees it move away from its cruiser-racer heritage and classic interiors.

The on trend styling inside and out is backed up by a premium level of build and finish quality and sailing performance – particularly if you have the performance sails, traveller and deep (2.95m) keel options the test boat carried, although the latter does limit your berthing and anchoring options.

While I doubt it’ll be raced or will suit typical bluewater use, it offers a purity of performance push-button sailing: a handsome prospect upwind in a light breeze, it transforms into a powerful reaching machine with stacks of control.

As chairman of our jury, Jochen Rieker, puts it: “The boat certainly did not win for her somewhat borrowed looks. She wins by checking all the boxes in all other respects. Slipping along gracefully in the lightest of airs, holding her stride and her balance in more demanding conditions, offering warmth, light and this reassuring feeling of utter quality down below – there simply isn’t anything to fault.”

Contest 50CS

The Contest 50CS, for example, is an archetype luxury cruising yacht, one built to the highest standards and that could take you to most waters in impeccable comfort. This model is, uniquely, available in two versions: this more conventional 50CS with aft master cabin, or the forward owner’s suite version on the aft cockpit Contest 49CS . We ran a full test on the latter after spending two days aboard in the North Sea, where that noticeably high freeboard, which may not aid boarding nor windage, helped keep us dry on deck in a steady Force 6 gusting 7.

As the 50CS proved, this Judel/Vrolijk design keeps slipping along in the light stuff too, providing enjoyable sailing in 6 knots breeze under a code sail. The centre cockpit offers a deep protected guest area, but also links well to the spacious aft deck.

And the Wetzels-Brown-designed interiors of Contests today are stunning and hard to match. The engineering, access to usable stowage, details and finish on the 50CS is first class and to get this level of quality at this size is special.

Both Contest and X-Yachts are early adopters of hybrid power, offering their bluewater cruisers with optional electric drives. For the XC 47 this was designed-in from the start to offer Oceanvolt’s award-winning new 25kW regenerative drive.

The XC 47 is another wonderfully engineered and thought out yacht for distance cruising, in particular for those who also enjoy hands-on helming pleasure. That should come as no surprise to any X aficionados, but what really struck me most about this yacht was the stowage, and the forethought needed to create that, together with how practical it has been made.

That may sound slightly anticlimactic but ask any long-term cruiser and stowage is always a priority. On deck, this constitutes a huge lazarette and sail locker, plus clever systems for launching a dinghy via davits and a liferaft canister, while below decks every square inch of space has been used effectively, with lockers hinged with gas struts.

It’s clear the Danish yard went to considerable time and effort, even building a full mock up of the interior that could be canted 20° each way.

If the deck saloon style looks didn’t sell this model to all – this is the first full non-Jeppesen designed X – the jury were converted once they’d taken the helm. ‘Quirky’ became ‘muscular and bold’. The ease with which it can be sailed from the cockpit was also appreciated.

While I understand many offshore cruisers like a protected centre cockpit and more sun protection, the attention to detail, stowage and practicalities, combined with the direct steering, motion and enjoyable sailing this X offers make it a standout new offering.

Jeanneau Yachts 55

Meanwhile the Jeanneau Yachts 55 stands out for different, unique reasons in this category, offering a completely new concept in comfort on deck while at anchor and a novel accommodation layout. Its focus is on outdoor living space.

What helps place this in a luxury bracket is not simply the price or the creative input of superyacht specialist design duo Philppe Briand and Andrew Winch, rather that its layout creates a palatial amount of private space for the owner’s suite. Guest cabins have their own direct access from the extensive cockpit via gullwing doors.

It certainly makes sense for solo owners or couples using it as a warm water apartment. How many people this will suit is another question, as it segregates any guests, crew or children from the galley and saloon.

I used the term monocat when I first viewed it, as the 55 really does attempt to mix the two worlds, particularly in terms of providing owner privacy and lounging space. Choose the rigid hard top and windshield and there’s a vast amount of covered area including a dinette and chart table – plus a bimini can shade all that extensive aft deck too.

The penalty comes in additional weight and wetted surface, and is felt in the handling and performance, the latter particularly in lighter breeze with the optional in-mast furling, self tacking headsail and shallow draught package we had. However, it’s set up to be easily managed from the mid cockpit with good visibility from the twin helms and easy circulation thanks to the ramped side decks. Full report in YW February 2024.

Best luxury yacht 2023

Best luxury yacht winner – oyster 495.

It is hard to imagine that the decor of a yacht can change its look and feel quite this much, yet the layout of this second 495, Eddie Jordan’s dramatic looking Tuga , is in fact identical to the first boat that I spent several days aboard last summer.

At its heart is a wonderfully (Humphreys) designed and engineered luxury bluewater cruiser conceived from the ground up, built in a new dedicated facility to a repeatable quality very few yards are capable of.

The 495 offers consistent passage making speeds in real voluminous comfort – whether enjoyed from the deep cockpit or the best-in-class aft cabin. Deck stowage and mechanical space is also superb.

Then factor in the family appeal of Oyster’s after sales and world rally programme and you start to appreciate the premium world this sub 50-footer gives access to.

The first yacht fully conceived under CEO Richard Hadida’s reign, this is also the smallest completely new Oyster 495 since 2005 – and it’s a triumph. It was our September 2022 cover star in which we featured the full review from our Oyster 495 three day test .

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 60

The Oceanis Yacht 60 is a very different beast indeed to the 62 it replaces as flagship for the Beneteau range. The yard has learned plenty from the success of the First 53/OY 54 and wanted to create a 60 in this style and with the same deck layout (albeit larger and wider) and ease of circulation.

The construction experience of the smaller model clearly helped too, as this is a whopping five tonnes lighter than the bulky OY62 and with a deeper (2.6m) keel. The telling result is on the water. It feels sporty to helm and we averaged a knot slower than the single figure 6-8 knot windspeeds upwind and matched them reaching with Code 0 and a slight swell.

The vast cockpit works well, sheltered below the semi rigid bimini, it has plentiful lounging space with sailing systems led aft to the twin helms. The interior sees a 3+3 layout, where Beneteau wanted to get rid of the corridor effect of the OY62. The galley is forward to help open out space, while the forward suite with offset berth and headboard aft works well to give space with privacy.

This is an attractive, voluminous yacht that leaves a good overall impression whether under sail, on or below decks.

Ice 62 Targa

It all looks pretty funky below decks on the Ice 62 Targa too, especially if you’re watching the masthead fore and aft cameras (plus bow and prop cam) on central displays mounted in the saloon while you slip out of the dock! The Ice is a seriously impressive, contemporary yacht, one that in looks, performance and execution, won over many of the judges.

The first to launch is a highly customised project for a passionate sailing owner who covers long distances solo – he’d already sailed it 3,000 miles around the Med that autumn. It’s impressively stiff, sails handsomely and, thanks to a telescopic keel, points well. We matched single figure windspeeds, and clocked up to the high 9s in 12 knots wind.

Umberto Felci’s team spent 4,000 hours on the design, providing lots of space and light to the interior and a chillout zone in the semi raised saloon. This was easily the coolest looking yacht, with its aggressive reverse bow, chamfered gunwales and carbon T-top bimini, and all engineered and built to a high standard.

A superyacht or mega yacht is typically a motor yacht or sailing yacht with a length of 30 meters (100 feet) or more. For this ranking, we looked at the superyachts and luxury expedition mega yachts that are used privately or made available for charter. We excluded so-called ‘residential superyachts’ (think Njord and The World), which are essentially luxury apartment buildings at sea where people own private residences inside the superyacht rather than the whole yacht. By researching diverse, reliable sources like Wikipedia and the Superyacht Times, we compile a list of the largest yachts in the world.

26. Y721 (aka Koru) | 417 feet—127m

Ever wonder where Jeff Bezos spends his downtime? As of today, we’re predicting it to be on his $500 million superyacht. Y721—nicknamed Koru—is 127m long. And featuring three sky-high slender masts, Koru is said to be the largest sailing yacht in the world . 

With dark exteriors and natural wooden decks, Koru is inspired by another one of Bezos’ yachts—the Black Pearl. The clean lines and classically curved bow speak to an understated elegance despite the yacht’s mammoth size. While a long line of portals indicates at least 9 guest cabins. In light of all the secrecy surrounding Koru, we doubt Bezos will ever charter her out, but we can still dream.

25. Al Mirqab | 436 feet—133m

Adorned with cascading chandeliers and gold accents, Al Mirqab is renowned for its unrivaled interiors. Surrounded by suspended glass artworks, a grand staircase floats throughout the four floors. And inspired by authentic Arabian styles, the magnificent superyacht is reminiscent of a magic carpet ride through the seas . 

Built for the former Prime Minister of Qatar, Peterswerft-Kusch spared no expense in delivering Al Mirqab to an impossibly high standard for luxury. The large swimming pool is a standout feature as it opens up into the sea, creating the ultimate playground for adults. Al Mirqab has a capacity for up to 60 guests and is manned by an equal number of crew. Although you have to be invited by the politician himself as Al Mirqab isn’t available for private charter.

24. Serene | 439 feet—134m

Adeptly named, the magnificent superyacht embodies the serenity of a life at sea. Serene was built in Italy for a Russian owner in 2011. She was leased to Bill Gates for the Summer in 2014 for $5 million per week. 

Designed by Reymond Langton, the 134m mega yacht marries elegant sophistication with state-of-the-art technologies. The seven decks leave ample space for guests to soak in scintillating views. While the underwater viewing room—nicknamed the Nemo room—is a permanent gallery of resplendent sealife. The real-life snow room makes up to four inches of snow. And whilst this may seem odd when your billionaire boss asks for snow—you make it snow.

23. Crescent | 445 feet – 136 m

Yet another Lurssen masterpiece, Crescent pays homage to classic naval designs with traditional architecture and elegant interiors. Formerly named Project Thunder, she was built in Germany and delivered to Igor Sechin in 2018. The Russian oligarch’s superyacht was seized by Spain after sanctions were placed on Russia in 2022. 

Crescent features low bulwarks and full-height windows to maximize the view from the center of the boat. Her distinctive wing station provides unrivaled views for up to 18 guests. But don’t get your hopes up—Crescent is strictly for private use only and isn’t available for charter. 

22. Savarona | 446 feet – 136m

Savarona is the second-largest yacht built by Blohm & Voss and spends most of her time in the Mediterranean. This luxury superyacht is one of the oldest in the market — a perfect fusion of traditional charm and modern facilities. 

Previously named Gunes Dil, Savarona was designed by Cox & Stevens, with interior design carefully handled by Donald Starkey. She’s available to charter on a weekly basis and has been refurbished over the years. Back in the day, her cost price was $4 million, and in 1989, she was chartered by Kahraman Sadikoglu, owner of the Turkish Sadikoglu Group, who spent an estimated $50 million on refurbishing her from top to bottom.

21. Flying Fox | 446 feet – 136m

Flying Fox is known as the most expensive charter yacht in the world , and a week aboard will set you back around $3 million. Chartered by the one and only power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z in 2021, it’s filled to the brim with all of the luxury facilities you could ever possibly want. 

The Flying Fox is rumored to be owned by Jeff Bezos, although that’s a claim that’s never been totally certified. She spends most of her time in the Mediterranean, specifically Cannes, Capri, and Sardinia, although she’s recently visited Norway, too. She can accommodate the largest helicopters on the market, and it reportedly took more than 50 meetings with her owner for interior design to be completed.

20. Rising Sun | 454 feet – 138m

The Rising Sun’s original owner, Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, sold her in 2010 as he considered her too large. Famously used by David Geffen for self-isolation, Rising Sun has also been a popular hang-out spot for celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Beatrice, the Princess of York. 

She’s a Superyacht with impressive attention to detail like interiors kitted out in teak and onyx and endless features like a full gym , a large wine cellar, a sauna, and a spa. She’s got a full-size basketball court that doubles up as a helicopter landing pad and a private cinema for those long evenings spent at sea.

19. Al Salamah | 457 feet – 139m

Al Salamah is part of the Omani Royal fleet and started her very secretive life in Genoa. Known as the world’s biggest superyacht right up until 2016, she’s a sleek masterpiece of a ship, with a distinctive cream color and beach club design. 

Al Salamah does everything in multiples, from the five galleys onboard (the main galley, a bakery, a crew galley, an owner’s diet galley, and an Arab galley), three hospitals (one for the owner, one for guests, and one for the crew) and 2,000 sqm of floor space. She was put on sale briefly for $280 million USD, before being delisted and instead given as a gift to the Crown Prince of Bahrain. 

18. Solaris | 458 feet – 139m

Everything about Solaris was supposed to be kept a secret when she was being built—a secret that didn’t last long when her huge size was spotted undergoing sea trials in the North Sea. One of this Superyacht’s main attractions is her beach club on the top floor: the perfect spot for relaxation during those long days out at sea. 

That beach club comes complemented with endless other stylish amenities, like a large helipad, sun deck, and a crane to launch tenders, toys, and subs. Interior design is largely unknown, but, if it’s anything as sleek and white as its exteriors, it’s sure to be impressive.

17. Scheherazade | 459 feet – 140m

Two helicopter landing pads, two outdoor Jacuzzis, and two outdoor fire pits: Scheherazade doesn’t hold back with not only the essentials but also the luxuries. Previously named Lightning, “Scheherazade” is mostly associated with a female character in the Middle Eastern folk tales in the series One Thousand and One Nights. 

Not much is known about this superyacht, and even her birth and building process were referred to under a codename: Project Lightning. No one involved in her creation, even Lurssen, has revealed anything about her interiors or her owner. All that’s really known is that she sailed from Germany to Norway initially after completion. 

16. Ocean Victory | 460 feet – 140m

Ocean Victory has traveled all over the world, from Europe to Southeast Asia and back again. Owned by Russian billionaire Viktor Rashnikov, she’s the upgraded vessel to follow his purchase of the 76-meter Ebony Shine. 

She’s one designed with pure luxury in mind, from the six individual swimming pools onboard to the 300-square meter spa area. She’s beautiful both inside and out, with a unique concept designed by Espen Oeino and interior designer Alberto Pinto. The largest superyacht ever built in Italy, Ocean Victory shows some of the finest in the world when it comes to premium quality adventures at sea.

15. Yas | 463 feet – 141m

Yas is known best for its seamless and rather unusual design — one that’s a little different from most superyachts out there. The owner of Yas wanted a yacht that lived up to his own heritage; one with a backbone reminiscent of the navy and with abstract lines throughout. 

He chose an existing boat in Abu Dhabi, which was deconstructed within the region before being shipped off and renovated into the wonder that it is today. The Yas yacht was originally a Dutch navy frigate, which you’d never guess from strolling around onboard today.

14. Nord | 465 feet – 142m

Nord’s distinctive bow design has never been seen before on a yacht. That’s one of the first things you’ll notice about her. The next thing you’ll notice is her unusual design, which verges on battle-esque and has been called “ a warship wearing a tuxedo ” by Dan Lenard of the Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard. 

She’s one of the best superyachts out there for fun, with a sports and diving center on the lower deck, a swimming pool higher up, overlooking the ocean, and a fleet of tenders. She was designed for global exploration: a yacht that will calmly cruise her way all across the world.

13. Sailing Yacht A | 469 feet—142.8m

Challenging the status quo and pushing design boundaries, Sailing Yacht A is an enigma. The sail-assisted superyacht was built in Germany and delivered to Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko in 2017. However, she was seized by the Italian police force, Guardia di Finanza, in 2022 after sanctions were placed on Russian businessmen following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 

Distinguished by soaring rotating carbon fiber masts, Nobiskrug’s hybrid approach to superyachts makes Sailing Yacht A more eco-conscious than other luxury yachts of her size. The u nderwater viewing pod molded into the keel speaks to her unrivaled innovation. And many balconies are enclosed by some of the largest pieces of curved glass ever made. 

12. El Mahrousa | 478 feet – 146m

El Mahrousa had a few different names in her time, ranging from the translated “The Protected” to El Horreya, which in Arabic translates to “Freedom.” It’s not surprising that she’s had more than one name when you take into account her age. As the oldest superyacht in the world, she’s undergone a lot of restoration over time, including multiple lengthenings and faster engines. 

She was renamed back to El Mahrousa in 2000 and gained even more recognition for being the first ship to cross the new Suez Canal extension in 2015. Back in her original days, she was built on the River Thames and took her first trip in 1867.

11. OK | 479 feet—146m

Delivered in Japan in 1982, OK is one of the largest and most unique superyachts in the world. Sprawling over 479 feet, the water giant is engineered to submerge almost seventy percent. This is accredited to the work done by Karmarine Shipyard. While the majority of the vessel was built by Oshima Shipping, it was privately converted to a semi-submersible yacht in Turkey. 

The superlative finishing on OK superyacht was designed by Timur Bozca, winner of the Younger Designer of the Year award in 2015. The blueprint being as many games as possible. The extraordinary vessel has the uncanny ability to hold over seventy toys, including a sailing yacht, a sea plane, tenders, buggies and even a tennis court.

10. Opera | 480 feet—146.4m 

Like many of the most majestic water titans, Opera was delivered by Lurssen in Germany and built for Abu Dhabi royalty. This time, the owner is Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, son of the founder of the United Arab Emirates. And while it may not be quite as astronomical as Lurssen’s previous builds—Azzam, Blue and Dilbar—the streamlined vessel is equally impressive onboard. 

The three-story superyacht proves large enough for a pair of helipads and two swimming pools, amongst many other toys, while simultaneously making room for up to 48 guests and 80 crew members. When it comes to the interior, details are sparse, but we do know that it was designed by Terence Disdale, a London firm renowned for creating bespoke luxury spaces. 

9. Prince Abdulaziz | 482 feet – 147m

The Prince Abdulaziz’s yacht was ordered by King Fahd, who named her after his son Prince Abdul Aziz. Now, she’s owned by his brother, Abdullah. Just one of the yachts owned by the Saudi royal family, she’s spotted frequently throughout Europe, especially in Cannes, where the royal family owns a property. 

She’s been redecorated once — in 2007 — in a project that took 15 months to complete, without even taking into account the rest of the ship’s upkeep. The Prince Abdulaziz is known for its combination of bold colors and fusion of traditional and modern design, thanks to its influence from the late David Hicks.

8. A+ | 483 feet – 147m

What do you do when the name “A” is already taken for your superyacht? Choose the next closest thing: A+. Previously named Topaz, this superyacht was the world’s fourth-largest luxury yacht when she was built, before being stripped of that particular title only a few years later. 

Nevertheless, she’s a seriously impressive superyacht, with endless facilities like a large jacuzzi, double helicopter landing pads, a swimming pool with a swimming platform and underwater lights, as well as a fitness hall, cinema, and a large conference room. She’s also well equipped with water toys, like jet skis, inflatable boats, a catamaran, and even a mini-submarine.

7. Al Said | 508 feet – 155m

Another Superyacht built, shrouded in secrecy, Al-Said was referred to as “Project Sunflower” the entire time she was being created, right up until she was delivered to her owner in 2008. Not much is known about Al Said, from her movements through to her amenities — although she is known to have a huge concert room with space for a full 50-person orchestra. 

Currently, she’s flying the flag of Oman and has spent a lot of time in its surrounding waters. Her interior was styled by British designer design house RWD, with exterior design being credited to Espen Oeino. When she was delivered to the Sultan of Oman, she replaced a previous ship of a smaller size. 

6. Dilbar | 511 feet – 156m

Dilbar, or Project Omar, as it was originally known as, is another superyacht designed with the help of exterior expert Espen Oeino, but with interiors strikingly designed by Andrew Winch. Dilbar is famously known as the world’s largest yacht by gross tonnage (interior volume) but as the fifth-longest superyacht in the world. 

She’s home to a spa pool and beach club, as well as a large private cinema, spacious cabins set high on the main deck, a spacious dining room, and a salon with its own piano. She’s just as classy and beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

5. Blue | 527 feet—160.6m

Sunday blues simply cease to exist on one of the world’s most extravagant superyachts. The elegant behemoth was built for member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi and billionaire, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2022. Valued at over $600 million, Blue is one of the most expensive superyachts in the world. And with a strong emphasis on the environment, this superyacht is also one of the most sustainable. 

Blue strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible. She is equipped with a highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept developed by Lürssen’s own engineering specialists. And the wastewater treatment plant allows water to be disposed of in drinking water quality.

4. Dubai | 531 feet – 162m

Dubai had multiple names in the planning stages—including Panhandle, Platinum, and Golden Star. Owned by the ruler of Dubai, it was aptly named after its home country and comes with all of the luxurious amenities you’d expect from such a name. 

The Dubai comes complete with a huge swimming pool and two jacuzzis. Further down, you’ll find a large dining room with striking blue and burgundy decor and space for up to 90 guests. Dubai usually spends her time moored at Sheikh Mohammed’s private island in front of his summer palace in Dubai. She’s basically the definition of a floating palace.

3. Eclipse | 533 feet – 162.5m

It took around five years for Eclipse to be built from start to finish. While she was always designed to be a huge, luxurious Superyacht, the focus was more on decking it out appropriately rather than breaking any records. An award-winning superyacht, she’s incredibly spacious, with endless rooms to explore and a sleek, neutral color palette running through. 

The Eclipse’s owner, Roman Abramovich, was more focused on facilities: he wanted more than one helicopter pad and a large swimming pool, too. Other than that, designer Terry Disdale had free reign for the rest of the superyacht. It’s just as much a clean piece of architectural styling as it is a stunning experience on deck.

2. Fulk Al Salamah | 538 feet – 164m

Fulk Al Salamah translates to “Ship of Peace” and that’s something that sounds like a given when you’ve taken a look at this superyacht’s incredible layout. Developed under the codename Project Saffron, Fulk Al Salamah is more of a support vessel than she is a typical superyacht. 

While she might still come complete with all of the necessities for a particularly relaxing voyage, she’s more so known for being a transport ship for the Royal Navy of Oman. The largest superyacht in the world, she was never designed to win the title — rather just to be a sleek and elegant vessel. Azzam was crafted backward, with the plans for her interior confirmed long before her exterior was fully signed off. 

Her length only came to be as such to incorporate everything required for the interiors, which added an extra 35 meters to her overall size. She’s also designed to look smaller than she actually is, with a blend of indoor and outdoor living. It took more than 4,000 people to build Azzam , clocking up six million man-hours over a period of four years.

The most expensive yacht in the world

The fact that the History Supreme, the world’s most expensive superyacht, comes coated in gold, is only part of the reason for its high cost. A superyacht with a real-life Midas touch, it was sold to an anonymous Malaysian businessman for $4.8 billion. 

Robert Kuok, the richest Malaysian businessman, is the rumored owner of History Supreme, but no one has confirmed for sure. The History Supreme also comes with plenty of other impressive touches: a master bedroom decked out in platinum, a wall feature made from meteoric stone, and a genuine T-Rex dinosaur bone, to add to the list. 

She took three years to build from scratch and comes with 10,000 kilograms of solid gold and platinum. Other seriously luxe features are her 68 kilograms 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium and a liquor bottle adorned with a rare 18.5-carat diamond . The base of the vessel comes wrapped in gold, too.

Breaking records is cool. Especially when it has to do with building the biggest, longest, tallest, largest superyachts in the world. Technically speaking, each of those superlatives has its own category when it comes to shipbuilding. Number 2 on this list is *technically* bigger than number 1, which is longer. And one of the yachts on this list holds the title of oldest while also being one of the largest. It gets confusing, but when you’re building boats for people who want to break records, it matters.

Think you’ve seen a big superyacht? Think again. Here are the 10 largest yachts in the world for 2021. When yachts get this big, it can be difficult to discern a cruise ship from a superyacht.

10. SAILING YACHT A | 142 Meter (468 Foot) Nobiskrug 2017

Zoom into the future — SAILING YACHT A is the largest private sail-assisted motor yacht in the world. At 468 feet and built by Nobiskrug in 2017. She’s an advanced superyacht with unique features such as an underwater observation pod, a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, and state-of-the-art navigation systems.

The luxury sailing yacht’s three masts are the tallest and the most highly loaded freestanding composite structures in the world. The nearly invisible windows give this yacht a futuristic look offering no peep into the interior, which is still a mystery. SAILING YACHT A is owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

9. EL MAHROUSA | 145 Meter (478 Foot) Samuda Brothers 1865

Fresh out of the history and record books is EL MAHROUSA, a 478-foot Samuda Brothers yacht launched in 1865 (erm, yeah you read that right). This yacht was built for the Ottoman governor of Egypt and even made an appearance at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 (thankfully it never got stuck in the canal).

Of course, she underwent plenty of refits over the years, including the replacement of its paddle wheel engines by turbine-driven propellers in 1905. It also had a telegraph installed in 1912. EL MAHROUSA was also lengthened by 40 feet in 1872 and another 17 feet in 1905. The yacht is currently in the care of the Egyptian Navy and occasionally used as the Presidential Yacht. It is the oldest active superyacht in the world and the ninth largest one.

8. PRINCE ABDULAZIZ | 147 Meter (482 Foot) Helsingor Vaerft 1984

PRINCE ABDULAZIZ is a 147- meter motor yacht built by Helsingor Vaerft and delivered in 1984. For many years, it was the world’s largest yacht in terms of length and height. It’s one of the royal yachts of the Saudi royal family, originally owned by King Fahd. Although its interior was designed by the late David Nightingale Hicks, you’re not going to find any pictures of it. All we know is that it’s as luxurious as the TITANIC.

7. A+ | 147 Meter (482 Foot) Lürssen 2012

The seventh-largest yacht in the world is A+ (formally known as TOPAZ) at 147 meters long. With her gross tonnage of 12,532 GT, A+ is also one of the world’s largest superyachts in terms of volume. This 2012 Lürssen superyacht is reportedly owned by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of Manchester City Football Club and Emirate royalty.

This 8 deck vessel features 2 helipads, a gym, 2 Jacuzzis, a movie theatre, and a conference room. While not much is revealed about the Terence Disdale styled interior, A+ can accommodate up to 62 guests in 26 cabins, along with 79 crew members.

6. AL SAID | 155 Meter (508 Foot) Lürrsen 2007

At 509 feet long, AL SAID is the sixth-largest superyacht in the world. It was launched by Lürssen in 2007 and resembles a classic cruise liner. At its widest point, the ship measures nearly 79 feet across. It is owned by the Sultan of Oman and can supposedly accommodate 70 guests and up to 154 professional crewmembers. The vessel features 6 decks and a concert hall big enough for a 50 piece orchestra.

5. DILBAR | 156 Meter (511 Foot) Lürrsen 2016

DILBAR is a 156-meter superyacht built by Lürssen in 2016. Her exterior was designed by Espen Øino, who created a classic profile with a light ivory hull. Her interior design is said to be decorated in rare and exclusive luxury materials by Winch Design, but additional details and photos are not made public.

At 15,917 tons and 156-meters long, Lürssen announced that DILBAR is one of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, in terms of dimensions and technology. Her features include a 25-meter swimming pool (the largest ever installed on a yacht) and 2 helipads. It’s owned by one of Russia’s richest men , Alisher Usmanov.

4. DUBAI | 162 Meter (532 Foot) Platinum Yachts 2006

Make room for DUBAI , a 161-meter yacht with a nonlinear build history. This superyacht was originally a joint project between Blohm+Voss and Lürssen in 1998. But the project was halted with a skeletal superstructure.

The hull was sold to the government of Dubai, and the project began again under the direction of the new owner, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (ruler of Dubai), and Platinum Yachts. The yacht was finished in 2006. Some of its stand-out features include 7 decks, helipad, submarine garage, nightclub, cinema, and 70-foot-wide atrium. DUBAI can accommodate 24 guests.

3. ECLIPSE | 162 Meter (531 Foot) Blohm+Voss 2010

By the time it left the Blohm+Voss German shipyard in 2010, ECLIPSE was the largest superyacht in the world. Today, it’s been knocked down a few pegs at 162 meters in length. It’s owned by Russian businessman, Roman Abramovich. ECLIPSE boasts 18 staterooms and can accommodate 36 guests.

At the time of its launch, it hosted the largest swimming pool (with adjustable depth to become a dance floor) onboard a yacht at 16 meters long. This luxury yacht has interesting features including a missile detection system (you know, just in case), bulletproof windows (again, just in case), a submarine, three helicopters, six tenders, spa, gym, and beach club. It’s currently valued at $1.2 billion and considered the world’s most expensive yacht .

2. FULK AL SALAMAH | 164 Meter (538 Foot) Mariotti 2016

FULK AL SALAMAH , translated to Ship of Peace, is a 164-meter Mariotti mega yacht built in 2016. This monster of a yacht is believed to be owned by the Omani royal family. Although, not the longest yacht, she is the biggest in terms of volume at 22,000 gross tonnage. The exterior design is by Studio de Jorio and resembles more of a cruise ship than a private superyacht. Not many details are revealed about FULK AL SALAMAH as this project and delivery has been kept under wraps from its beginning.

1. AZZAM | 180 Meter (590 Foot) Lürssen 2013

At a whopping 180 meters in length, AZZAM is the longest private yacht in the world. This superyacht was launched in 2013 by Lürssen Yachts, and currently owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. It cost more than $600 million to build.

AZZAM has a beam of 20.8 meters (68 feet) and an unusually shallow draft of 4.3 meters (14 feet). Exterior designer, Nauta Design created this vessel to be sleek and timeless while appearing smaller than her size. The 9,000kW MTU engines give her a speed of 18 knots over long distances, with a top speed of 33 knots.

As the longest private yacht in the world, AZZAM can accommodate 36 guests and up to 80 crew. The interior style is largely a secret, but it’s rumored that some of the wood furniture onboard is intricately veneered with mother of pearl marquetry. Other onboard features include a gym, pool, and golf training room.

RANKED: The 17 biggest private luxury yachts in the world

17. savarona — 124 metres / 408 feet. we begin with a beautiful 1937 yacht made for american heiress emily roebling cadwalader. it was bought by turkey as a presidential yacht, and in 1989 had a $35 million (£24 million) refurbishment..

16. Katara — 124 metres / 408 feet. A superyacht with a mysterious origin, the Katara apparently has a Qatari flag when it docks. Boat International thinks it belongs to the new young emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

15. Maryah — 125 metres / 410 feet. Built in Poland in 1991 as a Russian research vessel, the yacht was redesigned in the UK for luxury, and can accommodate? 54 passengers.

14. Octopus — 126 metres / 414 feet. Owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, this massive yacht spends most of its time moored in Antibes, France, and even has a helicopter landing pad.

13. Al Mirqab — 133 metres / 437 feet. The Al Mirqab won the Motor Yacht of the Year award at the World Superyacht Awards in 2009 and reportedly has a top speed of 20 knots.

12. Serene — 134 metres / 439 feet. Built in 2011 for a Russain owner under a veil of secrecy, little is known about the Serene, except that she's the largest yacht ever launched into Italian waters where it was built.

11. Rising Sun — 138 metres / 453 feet. Originally built for Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, he eventually sold it to music mogul David Geffen in 2010.

10. Al Salamah — 139 metres / 457 feet. The Al Salmah had a codename of "Mipos" during construction, short for "Mission Possible." It's one of the many superyachts once owned by Saudi royalty on this list, in this instance Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.

9. Ocean Victory — 140 metres / 459 feet. Another entry with a super-secret background (notice a trend?) the Ocean Victory supposedly has seven decks, six swimming pools and a "floodable garage" at its base.

8. Yas — 141 metres / 463 feet. With a facade that wouldn't be out of place on Star Trek, the Yas was launched in 2011 by holding company Abu Dhabi MAR using repurposed steel from a Dutch navy vessel. Its owner is unknown.

7. El Horriya — 146 metres / 478 feet. The boat was built in 1865 for an Ottoman governor. It was the world's largest yacht for 119 years before the next entry took the title.

6. Prince Abdulaziz — 147 metres / 482 feet. The Royal Yacht of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah. It reportedly cost $184 million (£126 million) in 1984. An interior lobby is said to be based on the design of the Titanic.

5. Topaz — 147 metres / 483 feet. Constructed in Berlin, the Topaz was launched in 2012 and cost $527 million (£361 million) to build. It has a gym, cinema, jacuzzi and conference room.

4. Al Saïd — 155 metres / 509 feet. Built in 2006 for the Sultan Qaboos of Oman, the Al Saïd has the highest water displacement of any on the list at 15,850 tonnes. It also has a concert hall that can accommodate? a 50-strong orchestra.

3. Dubai — 162 metres / 532 feet. This gigantic yacht was commissioned by Prince Jefri of Brunei in 1996 and is currently owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Apart from the usual luxuries, the Dubai also has a 21 metre wide atrium to impress the 24 capacity guests staying overnight.

2. Eclipse — 162.5 metres / 533 feet. The world's second-biggest superyacht was launched in 2009 at a reported cost of $500 million (£342 million) for Russian billionaire and Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich. It takes an annual voyage to the Caribbean to take passengers back to Abramovich's home in St Barth's.

Despite the pandemic, the superyacht world continues to welcome new entries. These are the world’s biggest yachts by length.

Even in a pandemic, the size of the global superyacht fleet keeps on growing. The top 25 largest yachts in the world now total a combined 11,849 feet, with the smallest yacht on the list,  Maryah , measuring a whopping 410 feet. Built by shipyards all over the world—from the Netherlands to the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom, to name just a few—new launches and refits are delivered each year. The 2021 newcomers hail from Lürssen, Dream Ship Victory and Lloyd Werft. With many new gigayacht builds in the pipeline, the list will be much more competitive in the coming years. Here are the world’s top 25 yachts by size, from  Maryah  to  Azzam.

25. ‘Maryah’ (410 feet, 1 inch), Neorion

This former Russian research vessel was originally launched by the Szczecinska yard in Poland. In 2010, it underwent a five-year rebuild at the Elefsis yard in Greece. The stodgy research vessel that went in reappeared in 2014 as a thoroughly modern custom-built superyacht. The UK-based  H2 Yacht Design  did both the interior and exterior, incorporating all the luxuries one would expect in a yacht this size. The swimming pool, spa, contemporary decor (including custom furniture, signature joinery, and bespoke details like fixtures and lighting), and generous interior space turned the ugly duckling into a swan.  Maryah , which reaches a top speed of 18 knots powered by a twin azipods propulsion system, has accommodation for 54 guests.

24. ‘Octopus’ (414 feet), Lürssen

Originally built by Lürssen for Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, eight-decked  Octopus  is the world’s largest expedition yacht. Allen kept all the luxurious features of a superyacht, but wanted  Octopus  to be able to set anchor at the ends of the earth for exploration. The Lürssen, delivered in 2003, has storage for two helicopters, seven tenders, a large SUV and an internal dock that extends through the hull holding two submersibles. A glass-bottomed observation lounge makes for spectacular viewing when cruising. The yacht has been involved in multiple exploration discoveries, aided by its onboard dive centre and hyperbaric chamber. Espen Øino drew the exterior, including a full-sized basketball court on the aft deck, while Jonathan Quinn Barnett did the interior. The yacht underwent a refit in 2019. It reaches a top end of 20 knots.

23. ‘Al Mirqab’ (436 feet, 4 inches), Kusch Yachts

Launched in 2008,  Al Mirqab  was built for Qatar’s former prime minister under the supervision of  Kusch Yachts  in the  Peters Werft shipyard  in Wewelsfleth, Germany. The Tim Heywood exterior includes a long, navy-blue hull with a white superstructure. The yacht’s diesel-electric propulsion involves an azimuth pod drive and gives the 436.4-footer a top end of 21 knots. Its interior by Andrew Winch won several awards, with images showing Arabic-influenced motifs on the marble floors of large social areas. The yacht’s centerpiece is a stunning, complicated floating staircase encircled by custom-made glass panels.  Al Mirqab  has staterooms for 36, and crew quarters for 45.

22. ‘Serene’ (439 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri

Serene  was  Fincantieri ’s launch into the superyacht segment, and what a debut it was. The largest yacht ever launched in Italy when it was delivered in 2011 (surpassed three years later by  Ocean Victory ), the Espen Øino seven-deck design features a long, sleek blue hull, crowned by a white superstructure. The somewhat racy curves serve as a nice counterpart to the more serious-looking sections of the yacht, which include cutouts along the main and upper decks to allow strong visibility from the saloon and staterooms. The curved balconies on three levels are a nice touch that work aesthetically—and practically for better views. The open stern area has a winter garden (enclosed glass house) that allows dining in all seasons.  Serene  also has two helipads and a hangar, a big swimming pool, and a tender garage large enough for a submarine. Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design created the 43,056-square-foot interior for the Russian owner, though its details have remained closely guarded.

21. ‘Crescent’ (443 feet), Lürssen

Espen Øino’s dark hull and tiered superstructure was one of the most exciting launches of 2018. Custom-built Project Thunder, as it was called internally at Lürssen, features cut-outs along the hull sides that allow full ocean views from the saloon on the primary deck, as part of  Crescent ’s distinctive curved superstructure. Its most noteworthy feature is the jaw-dropping bank of three-deck-high windows in the center of the yacht. This architectural feature serves as the centerpiece of a very compelling design. The yacht has accommodations for 18 guests in nine staterooms. Little is known about the François Zuretti-designed interior, other than Lürssen describes it as being “traditionally styled.” If it lives up to  Crescent ’s brash exterior, the complete yacht promises to be an entirely groundbreaking design.

20. ‘Savarona’ (446 feet, 2 inches), Blohm+Voss

Launched in 1931,  Savarona  was built for American heiress Emily Roebling Cadwallader. The yacht was eventually acquired by Turkey to be the presidential yacht of Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey.  Jane’s Fighting Ships  described the yacht in 1949 as “probably the most sumptuously fitted yacht afloat.”  Savarona  was later converted to a training ship for the Turkish Navy and, in 1978, destroyed by fire. The yacht laid in tatters for 10 years. A Turkish businessman spent around $45 million refurbishing  Savarona , commissioning Donald Starkey for the interior and replacing the original steam-turbine engines with modern Caterpillar diesels. The yacht’s interior was refitted again in 2013, once again becoming the official presidential yacht in 2014.  Savarona  features a swimming pool, Turkish bath, 280-foot grand staircase, a movie theater, and a library dedicated to Atatürk.

19: ‘Flying Fox’ (446 feet, 2 inches), Lürssen

Delivered jointly by Imperial and Lürssen in 2019, 446.2-foot  Flying Fox  is the largest yacht available on the charter market. Key features of the Espen Øino-designed exterior are a curvaceous dove-gray hull and a 3.7-foot swimming pool that runs athwartship on the main aft deck, the largest ever found on board a yacht. A two-decked spa also gives guests access to a cryosauna, hammam and relaxation room with a fold-down balcony at sea level. Packed to the rafters with the latest amenities, the yacht holds a diving center, decompression chamber and two helipads.  Flying Fox  is PYC compliant and can accommodate 25 guests.

18. ‘Rising Sun’ (454 feet, 1 inch), Lürssen

Designed by the original guru of yacht designers, Jon Bannenberg,  Rising Sun  was built by Lürssen for Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and is currently owned by billionaire David Geffen. The yacht was delivered in 2004 and last refitted in 2011. Defined by banks of windows across the superstructure,  Rising Sun  has 86,000 square feet of living space in 82 rooms. It can accommodate 18 guests in nine cabins, with the capacity to carry up to 46 crew. The interior by Seccombe Design includes a gym, cinema, and wine cellar. The rear cockpit deck was designed as a basketball court. Geffen received a global media backlash in 2020 for his “tone deaf” social media posts that pictured himself on board his yacht during Covid-19 lockdown.

17. ‘Al Salamah’ (456 feet), Lürssen

When Lürssen launched  Al Salamah  in 1999, it was the third-largest yacht in the world. Its ranking at number 14 shows how much has changed in the last 20 years. Code-named MIPOS, or Mission Possible, the yacht was designed by  Terence Disdale . The large imposing exterior is primarily protected space, with an upper deck exposed to the elements.  Al Salamah  has staterooms for 40 guests, including two owner suites, 11 VIP staterooms, and eight twin cabins. The yacht can carry up to 96 crew and has a top speed of 22 knots.  Al Salamah  was last refitted in 2009.

16. ‘Scheherazade’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Lürssen

The owner of 459.3-feet Lürssen-built  Scheherazade  (formerly known as Project Lightning) finally took delivery of the mega yacht in June 2020 after it was pictured during sea trials in November 2019. What can so far be deciphered from available photography includes two helipads, forward and aft, and a large beach club aft, as well as a reported seven-foot beam. Very few details have yet been released of the highly private vessel, including even the names of designers or naval architects involved with the build.

15: ‘Ocean Victory’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Fincantieri

The largest motoryacht ever built in Italy, Fincantieri’s  Ocean Victory  was delivered to its owner in 2014. The seven-deck exterior by Espen Øino includes two helideck platforms and a hangar belowdecks, as well as exceptional outdoor social areas, and a floodable tender dock.  Ocean Victory  has accommodations for 28 guests as well as quarters for 56 crew.  Ocean Victory  also has six pools, a 3,300-square-foot spa, and an underwater observation room. The interior by Alberto Pinto remains a secret.

14: ‘Solaris’ (459 feet, 3 inches), Lloyd Werft

The 476-foot  Solaris  is one of the largest yachts to deliver in 2021, and yet still little is known about it. The highly private, vast explorer is built by German shipyard Lloyd Werft and undertook sea trials in the North Sea. The eight-deck exterior is by Australian designer Marc Newson and features a displacement steel hull with bulbous bow and steel superstructure with teak decks. Reportedly owned by Roman Abramovich, it houses a large helipad, sun deck and spacious beach club aft. Lloyd Werft built the Russian billionaire’s previous explorer yacht  Luna , which he reportedly sold for $360 million to his close friend Farkhad Akhmedov in 2014.

13. ‘Yas’ (462 feet, 6 inches), Abu Dhabi Mar

As a converted yacht,  Yas  is one of the most interesting vessels on this list. The dolphin-like exterior was originally a former Dutch Navy frigate that launched in 1978 and eventually sold to the navy of the United Arab Emirates, where it was renamed  Al Emirat . The yacht underwent its dramatic conversion in a facility in Abu Dhabi’s main port, emerging as a gleaming superyacht in 2011, with one of the most interesting profiles on the water. It was eventually delivered four years later. The design by the Paris-based Pierrejean Vision, defined by massive glass surfaces, can accommodate 60 guests and 58 crew members. Mated to a steel hull, the superstructure is the largest composite edifice ever built.  Yas  is capable of a 26-knot top speed and was last refitted in 2019.

12. ‘Dream Symphony’ (462 feet, 6 inches), Dream Ship Victory

Sailing yacht  Dream Symphony  is a magnificent 462.7-foot schooner built by the Turkish shipyard Dream Ship Victory. When delivered in 2021, she will become the largest private sailing yacht in the world, knocking current largest sailing yacht,  Black Pearl , off the podium. Featuring naval architecture by Dykstra Naval Architects and an exterior and interior by Ken Freivokh, she reunites the same team who were behind the legendary  Maltese Falcon ’s ground-breaking Falcon dynarig.  Dream  Symphony’s hull is being built in wood – glued and laminated using the latest epoxy and composite techniques. Wood, carbon and stainless-steel run throughout the contemporary interior, while the rig includes Hoyt booms for maximum control.  Dream Symphony  boasts a fully private owner’s duplex, with master suite, salon, and office at main deck level, and a further spa, gym and treatment rooms on the lower deck. A sheltered open deck between the owner’s facilities and the guest deck house can be closed off to bad weather, creating concealed channels for full protection. And when the sun is shining, a double-height glass swimming pool features a rising floor that can doubles up as a touch-and-go helipad or dancefloor.

11. ‘Nord’ (466 feet),  Lürssen

Nord  (Project Opus) has been a long time coming. She was announced in 2015 but didn’t hit the water until November 2020 when she conducted sea trials in the Baltic Sea. The 466-foot yacht features interior design by Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard and is Lürssen’s first yacht launched from its newly upgraded floating shed at its facility in Vegasack. Boasting many top tier amenities, the yacht includes a sports and diving center on the lower deck, multiple tenders ranging in size up to 50-feet and a large swimming pool. The two helipads support the yacht’s long-range cruising capabilities for autonomous remote exploration and a retractable hangar means the helicopter can slide neatly into the superstructure for storage when not in use. A generous 20 staterooms accommodate 36 guests across six decks, while a sleek aft-sloping superstructure gives Nord an individual profile on the water.

10. ‘A’ (468 feet, 5 inches), Nobiskrug

Delivered in 2017, the futuristic look of sailing yacht  A  includes smooth, silver-metallic surfaces and windows that look nearly invisible, three composite masts that bend slightly, and a deck hidden by high bulwarks. The Philippe Starck-design is a wild fantasy yacht of the future. The 468-foot sailing yacht is a technical victory for German yard  Nobiskrug , which developed composite fashion plates to create the unusual shapes, without any compromises in strength or fluidity. It has the tallest freestanding composite masts on any sailing vessel, a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and state-of-the-art navigation systems. The boat also reportedly has an underwater viewing platform in the keel. “Sailing yacht  A  is undoubtedly one of the most visionary projects Nobiskrug has ever been involved in,” said Holger Kahl, the firm’s then managing director. Starck’s interior remains a secret. The yard reports the yacht has a top speed of 21 knots. She remains today the world’s largest sailing yacht three years after her launch.

9. ‘El Mahrousa’ (478 feet, 1 inch), Samuda Brothers

El Mahrousa , which means “the protected” in Arabic, is currently Egypt’s presidential yacht, though the 478.1-footer has a separate history as that country’s royal yacht. The London-based Samuda Brothers began the build in 1863, and it was launched in 1865. It was originally built for the Ottoman governor of Egypt, Khedive Ismail, and later carried three Egyptian kings into exile. The yacht was also at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. The world’s oldest superyacht features external design by the British naval architect Sir Oliver Lang, and has had multiple modifications over the years, including a lengthening by 40 feet in 1872 and another 17 feet in 1905. During the second refit, the owners replaced its paddle-wheel engines with turbine-driven propellers. The yacht, in care of the Egyptian Navy, occasionally goes to sea for a day or two. In 2015, it was used to inaugurate the new Suez Canal.

8. ‘Prince Abdulaziz’ (482 feet, 3 inches), Helsingør Værft

This custom yacht, launched by Helsingør Værft in Denmark in 1984, was most recently refitted in 2005. The 5,200-tonne  Prince Abdulaziz  is one of the Saudi Royal family’s yachts, its first owner being King Fahd. Designed by Maierform, the yacht was the longest and tallest in the world at the time of its launch. At 482.3-feet,  Prince Abdulaziz  held the title for 22 years until  Dubai  launched in 2006. The late David Nightingale Hicks, known for his use of bright colors, was the interior designer. The lobby is said to be a replica of the  Titanic . Last refitted in 2005, it is rumored to be carrying surface-to-air missiles, though that may be an urban legend.

7. ‘A+’ (483 feet, 1 inch), Lürssen

Very little is known about  A+  (formerly  Topaz) , which was launched by Lürssen in 2012, other than it is the fourth-largest yacht ever built by the German shipyard. Tim Heywood Designs did the exterior, which features helipads on the foredeck and amidships on an upper deck. A lower aft deck includes a swimming pool. The German yard has not released any images of the Terence Disdale interior. Reported to be owned by Manchester City Football Club owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahnan – Emirati royalty and deputy prime minister of the UAE –  A+  has a top speed of 22 knots, and can carry 62 guests and up to 79 crew.

6. ‘Al Saïd’ (508 feet, 5 inches), Lürssen

Another 500-plus-foot yacht from Lürssen, the original Project Sunflower gained its official name of  Al Saïd  following its launch in 2016. Espen Øino’s exterior is akin to a classic cruise liner, complete with the twin exhaust stacks in the center of the superstructure. Owned by the Sultan of Oman, six-decked  Al Saïd  can carry 154 crew and, according to some sources, 70 guests. Lürssen says  Al Saïd  has a top speed of 22 knots. The London-based Redman Whiteley Dixon studio designed the interior, which includes a concert hall that can hold a 50-piece orchestra.

5. ‘Dilbar’ (511 feet, 8 inches), Lürssen

The 2016 launch of  Dilbar  gave Lürssen the distinction of not only building the longest yacht ever ( Azzam ), but also the largest in terms of volume. Espen Øino designed the exterior, creating a full-bodied superstructure of long, flowing decks, along with two helicopter pads.  Dilbar  also has an 82-foot swimming pool that can hold an incredible 6357-cubic-feet of water, and according to Lürssen, is the world’s longest on a yacht. The interior by Winch Design is defined by its “rare and exclusive luxury materials,” says the builder, declining to go into detail. Lürssen added that the world’s largest motor yacht was one of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, because of its dimensions and technology. Despite  Dilbar ’s volume, the designers did a masterful job making the yacht look relatively svelte, with no obvious bulges along the length of the light ivory and bronze-accented hull. In June 2020, Dilbar returned to Lürssen for a significant refit, the details of which are yet to be revealed.

4. ‘Dubai’ (531 feet, 5 inches), Platinum Yachts

This Andrew Winch design was originally commissioned for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei as a joint project between Blohm+Voss and Lürssen, before it was halted in 1998 with just a bare hull and skeletal superstructure. The hull was sold to the government of Dubai, and, under the direction of the country’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, work on the 531.5-footer began again, though this time by Platinum Yachts.  Dubai  delivered in 2006 and is now the sheikh’s royal yacht, with accommodations for 24 guests and quarters for 88 crew. The seven-decked yacht has an impressive 70-foot-wide atrium, landing pad for a Black Hawk helicopter, submarine garage, disco, and cinema. Full certification was obtained from Lloyd’s Register in October 2006, and it can reach a top speed of 26 knots.

3. ‘Eclipse’ (533 feet, 1 inch), Blohm+Voss

Stately  Eclipse , the 533.1-foot yacht delivered to billionaire Roman Abramovich, took five years to design and build. When it left the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg in 2010, it was the world’s largest yacht. The interior has 17 staterooms and a palatial master suite, with the capacity to carry 85 crew. Both the interior and exterior are designed by Terence Disdale. A proportional profile is defined by tiered decks that sweep upward and bend ever so slightly at the aft ends.  Eclipse  has a 185-foot-long owner’s deck and, at the time of its launch, the largest swimming pool on any superyacht (the bottom raises and converts to a dance floor). Other features reflecting its stature: the capacity to hold three helicopters, including one in its belowdecks hangar, a sophisticated stabilization system, six tenders, and an enormous spa, gym, and beach club. Hybrid diesel-electric engines are connected to Azipod drives that give  Eclipse  a top-end speed of 21 knots, with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.

2. ‘Fulk Al Salamah’ (538 feet, 1 inch), Mariotti Yachts

Little information has ever been released about the world’s second-longest superyacht, custom-built  Fulk Al Salamah , and it has been shrouded in mystery since first announced in 2014. Even the overall length of 538.1 feet has been estimated from AIS data. However, built and delivered by Italian builder Mariotti Yachts in their Genoa shipyard in 2016, the imposing vessel is believed to be owned by the Omani royal family. Exterior design is by Studio de Jorio, and it is considered by some to resemble more of a support vessel than a superyacht. Nonetheless, aerial photography shows an impressively large helideck, raked masts and a bathing platform.

It’s not surprising that the world’s longest yacht hails from a shipyard with 13 out of the 25 top builds in the superyacht arena. Unfortunately,  Lürssen  could never really boast about  Azzam  after its launch in 2013 because of the owner’s penchant for privacy. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi directed a team of designers and engineers who started with the bare concept, worked through the technical challenges of what might be the most complex superyacht ever, and finished with an unusually large vessel that can top the 30-knot mark. Nauta Yacht’s exterior features a long, sleek forward area, with well-proportioned tiers moving up to the skydeck. Lürssen describes the interior by Christophe Leoni as “sophisticated, with luxurious decor inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century.” Its gas turbines, connected to water jets, push  Azzam  to more than 30 knots, giving it the ability to operate at high speed in shallow waters. She also boasts an impressive build time for a yacht of her size, with construction taking only three years after one year of engineering.  Azzam  was last refit in 2020 at MB92 in Barcelona.

Top 15 Most Expensive Yachts In The World

Yachts were simple vessels at the time of their inception in the ’90s, designed primarily for water sports; however, in the 2000s, they were transformed into luxurious maritime structures.

Such superyachts are commissioned for the rich and combine technological excellence with a glorious display of opulence and power. Apart from being genuinely majestic and gigantic, these yachts have amazingly unique features, as we will see in this article featuring the most expensive superyachts in the world.

1. History Supreme – $4.8 Billion 

The yacht History Supreme boasts of being the most expensive private superyacht in the world. It was constructed by the famous designer in Liverpool, Stuart Hughes, famous for turning ordinary gadgets like iPhones into luxury goods by covering them with precious metals such as gold or diamonds. Hence, the dining area, the railings, and anchor of the most expensive yacht in the world are adorned with priceless metals.

This magnificent yacht was made for a wealthy businessman hailing from Malaysia. Some news reports underlined the probability of Malaysian business tycoon Robert Kuok, the owner of this maritime wonder.

It is 100 feet and was completed in three years. Adorned with more than 10,000 kg of solid gold, silver and platinum, it is the most extravagant vessel. The yacht’s structure, anchors, deck areas, kitchen, and washrooms are made of precious metals. Its bottom is gold-plated, while the main bedroom has a walled structure made from a genuine meteorite and a decorative design carved from an authentic dinosaur tooth. 70 kg of gold was used only for making the lavish aquarium separating the main bedroom from the seating area.

Other features, such as expensive liquor in cases made of rare diamonds or the use of historical artefacts in its interior, are why the yacht is the most costly.

2. Eclipse – $1.5 Billion 

Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire and politician and the famous owner of the soccer club Chelsea, is the proud possessor of the Eclipse, which comes second in the list of the most expensive yachts in the world.

Eclipse is estimated to be worth 1.5 billion dollars and was built by Blohm and Voss, a ship construction company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. Terence Disdale, a renowned yacht designer who has renovated more than 40 superyachts, is responsible for the eye-catching interiors of the Eclipse.

The yacht is approximately 536 feet, and its magnanimous size incorporates numerous features of extraordinary luxury. It possesses two helipads, 23 cabins and a dozen guest cabins, hot tubs and swimming pools near the main deck.

It is a sailing beauty that offers comfort and entertainment as it is endowed with a dance hall, jacuzzi, launch boats, and a mini-submarine. It has high-security features like missile detection system, bulletproof windows and sharp camera surveillance. An interesting feature is the laser system that prevents photographers from clicking pictures even from afar.

3. Azzam – $650 Million

Built by the German shipbuilder Lürssen, Azzam is the third most expensive and extravagant yacht owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nayan, president of the United Arab Emirates. It was completed in 2013 in Bremen, Germany, with a tonnage capacity of 14,500 tonnes.

Azzam, which translates to determination in Arabic, is true to its name, as reflected in many of its stunning features. Its exteriors were designed by Nauta, a design company based in Milan. At the same time, its interior designs were carefully chosen to replicate the empire grandeur of medieval times, brought alive by Christophe Leoni, a prominent French designer.

It measures 590 feet in length, and its most distinguishing feature is its speed which is impressive for its size. Also, it is a no-pillar construction, an engineering marvel in itself. Azzam can attain a speed of more than 35 knots. Endowed with around 55 luxurious suites and a large salon accommodating 40 guests, it is representative of royalty at its finest. It has swimming pools, a golf course, double helicopter landing pads, and a sea-facing gym. Propelled by the latest technology dual engines, it is managed by 85 highly trained crew members.

4. Dilbar Superyacht -$600 million

Dilbar Superyacht was launched in 2015 at the German Lurssen Shipyard and was finally delivered a year later in 2016. One of the largest superyachts, she was constructed as Project Omar, with her interiors and exteriors crafted by Andrew Winch and Espen Oeino. She has a classic profile, a light ivory hull, a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure.

As of 2022, she is the 6th longest yacht in the world. At 1,917 tonnes, the 156 m superyacht is also one of the largest yachts by volume. It features never-seen-before entertainment and recreation spaces, too, like the 25 m swimming pool having 180 cubic metres of water, the largest pool ever built on a yacht. 

Dilbar was owned by Rusian Billionaire Alisher Usmanov. In 2022, German authorities seized the yacht as they placed sanctions on many Russian Oligarchs during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

The yacht, which is said to have cost a whopping $600 million, can easily accommodate 36 guests and also 96 crew members.

5. Al Said – $600 Million

Al Said is a luxurious superyacht constructed by Lurssen 2008, a famous yacht construction company. It is owned by the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos Bin Saad Al Said hence its name. Al Said measures 156 m, and when it was completed, it held the title of the second biggest superyacht in the world, with a capacity to host more than 75 guests and accommodate over 150 crew members.

Espen Oeino chose its exteriors and hand-crafted the interiors by Redman Whitely Dixon. Al Said has a steel and aluminium structure and can attain a maximum speed of 25 knots and a cruising speed of about 23 knots.

Comprising six open deck areas and other attractive features, its main attraction is the concert hall which can be used for a professional concert amidst the seas. It also has luxurious master bedrooms, jacuzzis, helipads, and features common to all luxurious yachts.

6. Topaz – $527 Million 

The Topaz superyacht was launched in 2012 by the German shipbuilding company Lurrsen. It was commissioned for Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, belonging to the royal family of Abu Dhabi and an essential functionary of the country, who acquired the exotic yacht for 527 million dollars.

Topaz comprises a steel and aluminium structure with a total tonnage of around 11,700 tonnes. Its design combines functionality with extravagance, evident in its features such as a swimming platform, a gym, a soccer field, a movie theatre, a disco hall, and a vast conference room. Its interiors have been designed by Terence Disdale, and the exteriors by luxury yachts designer Tim Heywood.

Topaz measures around 482 feet and its powerful engines help it achieve an impressive speed of about 25 knots. Security measures have been amalgamated into the yacht’s design, as it has an emergency generator. Topaz contains eight decks and other awe-inspiring features like dual helipads. It can accommodate 62 guests and has 26 luxurious rooms, served by a crew comprising 50 members.

7. Rising Sun- $ 400 million

The 138.6 metres yacht Rising Sun was constructed by Lurssen at their Bremen Shipyard in Germany. The stunning yacht’s interior was designed by Seccombe design, while its fabulous exteriors are the work of Bannenberg and Rowell. She was delivered in 2004 and refitted in 2011.

It was originally bought by Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle Corporation; however, it was later acquired by Geffen Records’ David Geffen.

Rising Sun cost $ 200 million in 2004, but now after the refittings, her cost is more than $ 400 million. 

She can accommodate 18 guests in 9 suites and about 45 crew members. She has a luxury spa, a beauty salon, underwater lights, a wine cellar, a gymnasium and much more. Her basketball court on the main deck also works as a helicopter pad when needed. She also has a private cinema with stunning ocean views too.

The yacht has a living area of more than 8000 m2 over five levels and 3300 m2 of deck space layered with teak.

She has a steel hull and a superstructure of aluminium with hawseholes plated in chromium. She can cruise at 26 knots and attain a maximum speed of 30 knots.

8. Superyacht Dubai – $350 Million

Dubai yacht was launched in 2006, constructed jointly by Blohm & Voss and Lurrsen shipbuilding companies. It is owned by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

The unique features of this superyacht comprise numerous open decks, hot water bathing areas and a lavish swimming pool endowed with custom-designed tiles made by the finest artisans. The most exciting interior is the main staircase. Circular in shape, it changes colours as it reflects and refracts the light reaching it through the uppermost deck. The interior is bright and bold, a blend of colours representative of the vibrant Middle Eastern culture.

Dubai comprises an expansive deck for his highness, sufficient rooms for accommodating 115 guests and a maximum of 80 crew members. It also has a comfortable lounge area, a helipad, a squash court, a movie theatre, gyms, and an expansive dining room with a chandelier embedded with rubies, emeralds and pearls. Dubai has specially designed engines that help it attain speeds of up to 26 knots.

9. Serene – $330 Million 

Counted among the world’s biggest and most extravagant superyachts, Serene is no less than a sailing palace. Owned by the crown prince and deputy prime minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, Serene was constructed in 2011 in Italy. Interestingly, before its acquisition by the Saudi Prince, it was used by Bill Gates, who leased it for millions of dollars.

It is a representation of finesse at its best, designed by Fincantieri, a prominent Italian shipbuilding company. The interiors were completed by Espen Oeino, a renowned designer. Serene measures almost 440 feet, and its tonnage are 8000. Endowed with specially designed engines, novel two-screwed propulsion, and robust engines, it can comfortably accommodate 25 people and more than 50 staff.

It has many unique technological features, such as a convertible helipad that turns into a swimming pool or a dance hall. Guest will never be bored onboard the Serene as it comprises movie theatres, music rooms, meeting spaces, lounges, a sauna, salons, a jacuzzi, a beach room, and a transparent room to view the beautiful underwater marine life.

10. Motor Yacht A – $323 Million

This Superyacht was designed by a French Architect, Philippe Starck and constructed by Blohm & Voss shipbuilders in Kiel. Measuring 120 m with a tonnage of 6000, it is among the world’s biggest motor yachts combining smart design with extraordinary elegance. It was launched in 2008 and is possessed by the businessman Andrey Melnichenko.

The yacht’s interiors span more than 20,000 sq feet while the main suite covers 2500 sq feet. A unique feature of this brilliantly designed yacht is its adjustable shifting walls. It also has 6 large rooms comfortably accommodating more than 15 guests and 50 staff members. Having a dance floor, helipads, rescue boats, and swimming pools with a transparent bottom made of glass, Superyacht A offers true comfort at sea.

It is a sailing wonder capable of attaining a maximum speed of 23 knots. Security features of the yacht include bomb-proof windows, motion detectors, and camera surveillance. It is said that it also has a secret escape pod.

11. Motoryacht Radiant – $320 Million

Radiant is a beautiful motor yacht constructed in 2009 by Lurrssen shipbuilders, and it belongs to the owner of Al-Futtaim Group, Abdulla Al Futtaim. Measuring 360 feet, she can reach a fantastic speed of 22 knots. Its expansive fuel tanks can accommodate more than 9500 gallons of fuel, and Radiant is recognised as the world’s 32nd luxurious superyacht.

Her interiors were styled by the famous Gle Pushelburg, while her exteriors have been designed by Tim Heywood. The vessel was last refitted in 2023.

It can carry more than 22 people and 45 crew comfortably. The hull of Radiant is made of steel, while its structure is largely constituted of aluminium. Delicate quality floor layering has been used for the decks. Functional features of the radiant include numerous swimming decks, helipads, a sauna bath, a massage room, garages, cinema halls, expansive seating areas, workout spaces and hot water baths, etc.

She has a gross tonnage of 5027 GT, a 16.3 m beam and a 4.4 m draught. The yacht is currently sailing under the flag of the Cayman Islands. 

12. Pelorus – $300 Million

The superyacht Pelorus was constructed by Lurrsen in Germany and was launched in 2003. Abdulmalik Al-Sheikh, a Saudi businessman, commissioned it in 2016, and it ended up with the Chinese business tycoon Samuel Tak Lee. It can accommodate more than 60 guests and about 45 crew members.

Tim Heywood and Terence Disdale, two internationally reputed names in the yacht design industry, worked together to design the superyacht that gives an aura of living on the beachside villas. It also has two helipads, swimming pools, a sauna, and a private deck with a comprehensive view. Pelorus has commendable security features, backup engines and generators.

Pelorus translates to expansive, and the yacht is quite faithful to its name since it is one of the 59 motor yachts in the world that measure more than 100 m and has a better speed than most yachts of her size. Currently, it is under the flagship of the Cayman Islands.

13. Al Mirqab – $ 300 million

Al Mirqab is a 133 m motor yacht constructed in 2008 by Peters Schiffbau in Wewelsfleth.  Her exteriors were penned by Tim Heywood, while the interiors were carved by Andrew Winch Design.

But what made her stand out when she was launched was her massive size, and to this day, the iconic yacht remains one of the most expensive and biggest yachts in the world. 

The $ 300 million vessel was constructed for the former PM of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. She has a long, beautiful navy-blue steel hull and a white superstructure of aluminium.

She was refitted in 2014 and has a 19.5 m beam and a 4.9 m draft. She can accommodate around 60 guests and an equal number of crew members. 

Al Mirqab can attain a maximum cruising speed of 23 knots and also has anchor stabilisers that increase comfort while the yacht is in rough waters or anchored.

Apart from the many large amenities onboard, the yacht has the largest spa that Winch design has ever worked on to this day, an enclosed pool and balcony terraces. Another striking feature is the Middle Eastern or Arabic-influenced motifs on its marble flooring.

14.  Octopus Yacht- $ 285 million

Octopus is a 126 m-long megayacht constructed for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. One of the largest yachts in the world, she was launched in 2003 and has been chartered for several scientific missions, exploration projects and even rescues.

She has a steel hull and a steel superstructure, a gross tonnage of 9932 GT, a 5.76 m draft and a beam of 21 m. She was refitted in 2021 and can attain a cruising speed of 12.5 knots. She can accommodate 12 guests and 42 crew members.

She is a true ocean explorer with a 12,500 nautical mile range and is famous for being a prominent explorer superyacht. She has 8 decks, a private elevator, a cinema, a gym, spas, and an observation lounge with a glass bottom for enjoying the underwater marine views.

The yacht has a bridge deck pool, a jacuzzi and also a pizza oven. It has storage space for water toys like jet skis, 7 tenders, 2 submersibles, fishing equipment, and also a large SUV. It has 2 helipads and space for 2 helicopters.

15. Aviva Yacht – $ 250 million

Aviva Yacht belongs to British Businessman Joe Lewis. One of the richest people in the UK, he is also an investor and philanthropist, as well as the owner of the Tavistock Group. 

Aviva was constructed in 2017 by Abeking & Rasmussen, situated in Lower Saxony. She is the biggest yacht built by the company that constructs naval vessels and cruise ships too.

Aviva is 98 m long and has twin diesel-electric MTU engines capable of outputting 3862 horsepower. She has a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. She also has a piano, an elevator, a beach club, a gym etc. 

However, its main feature is its indoor tennis court, making Aviva the first yacht to have an indoor padel tennis court.

She has 364,505 litres of fuel tanks, allowing her to cruise at a speed of 14 knots. She can also attain a maximum speed of 20 knots. AVIVA can accommodate 16 guests and 35 crew members after being refitted twice since its launch.

Top 10 Most Expensive Private Yachts in the World

A huge and luxurious superyacht is, in a sense, what you’d get if you combined a private jet and a private island – and believe it or not, a boat can sometimes be more expensive than a piece of real estate in the middle of the ocean. This is why it’s mostly super-wealthy Russian and Middle Eastern businesspeople, together with the occasional Western billionaire, that actually own such floating palaces. The following is a list of the top 10 most expensive private yachts in the world, starting with:

• 10. Lady Moura – $210 million

By far the oldest yacht on this list, Lady Moura was launched all the way back in 1990, but its allure hasn’t waned one bit over the years.

Owned by Saudi businessman Nasser Al Rashid, the ship cost about $200 million, with no expenses spared in order to make it as impressive as possible. Lady Moura is the epitome of elegance at sea, comfortable and easy to operate. As a further sign of opulence, its name and escutcheon are carved into the hull in 24-carat gold.

• 9. Al Mirqab – $250 million

The huge Al Mirqab, with its elegant dark blue hull, is quite an awesome sight to see. Delivered in 2008, it cost Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, $250 million.

The ship is 436 feet in length, making it one of the largest ever built, yet can still achieve a respectable maximum speed of 20.3 knots. Al Mirqab has enough room for up to 24 guests in its 10 spacious guest suites, while the owner has two VIP suites at his disposal. Facilities on board include a cinema, outside bars, an inside swimming pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi, extensive sunbathing areas, and a helipad.

• 8. Dilbar – $263 million

Alisher Usmanov is the richest man in Russia and one of the wealthiest in the world, so we would’ve been surprised if he didn’t own a floating palace (that costs more than an island).

Named after the businessman’s mother, the 361-foot Dilbar cost $263 million in 2012 and, like many of the world’s top boats, was the work of German shipbuilder Lürssen. There’s enough room on board for 20 guests and 47 crew members, while facilities include a helipad, swimming pool, and sumptuous formal dining room.

• 7. Radiant – $286 million

Radiant was initially built for Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky, however financial difficulties made him eventually give the boat up to Emirati billionaire Abdulla Al Futtaim for $286 million.

This superyacht comes with the luxurious facilities ships of this kind usually exhibit, but what makes it different is its impressive security system. Sonic guns can fire eardrum-bursting low-frequency sound waves and water cannons can sink approaching boats from up to 100 yards away. And if all this fails, there’s an escape boat capable of reaching a speed of 75 knots.

• 5.-6. Pelorus  – $300 million

Commission by a Saudi businessman, Pelorus was sold to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2004, before being sold to entertainment mogul David Geffen in 2011 for $300 million.

The boat has two helipads (you know, because one helicopter isn’t impressive enough), two swimming pools, as well as number of smaller boats (jet skis, wave runners) on the tender deck.

• 5.-6. Dubai – $300 million

Dubai used to hold the title of most expensive yacht in the world and even though more money has been paid for a number of new boats, this 524-foot ship is still the third largest yacht in the world and has seven decks, a squash room, a helicopter pad, and a mini-submarine.

No prizes for guessing the owner’s nationality – the yacht belongs to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, who paid $300 million for it in 2006.

• 4. A – $323 million

This isn’t the first time Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko is featured on one of our lists – he has also paid for one of the most expensive weddings ever, so it’s no surprise he’s willing to dig deep into his pockets for a really impressive boat as well.

Named after the initial shared by the owners (Andrey and Alexandra Melnichenko), A is an impressive 390-foot superyacht, especially thanks to its distinctive look, courtesy of world-renowned French designer Philippe Starck. Almost as impressive is the price Melnichenko paid for the ship in 2008 – $300 million.

• 3. Serene – $330 million

Mysterious Russian vodka tycoon Yuri Scheffler (the man who controls the famous Stolichnaya brand) was not being inconspicuous when he bought Serene. The 440-foot boat, with turquoise neon lights that glow in the dark, cost $330 million when it was delivered in 2011 – so it isn’t exactly hard to miss.

Serene is more of a floating mansion than a boat, with sumptuous staterooms, extensive indoor and outdoor pools, a children’s playground (which even has a climbing wall), as well as an outdoor cinema.

• 2. Eclipse – $485 million

When it was delivered in 2010, the 536-foot-long Eclipse was the largest yacht in the world and is still a very impressive vessel even though it has since been narrowly overtaken.

Roman Abramovich paid about $485 million for the yacht to German shipbuilder Blohm + Voss. Eclipse features two helicopter pads (seems Abramovich likes to have two on his boats), 24 guest cabins, two swimming pools, a restaurant, and even a disco. Interestingly enough, it also comes with a mini-submarine, capable of submerging to 50 meters.

• 1. Azzam – $627 million

Azzam (which is Arabic for resolute) is the largest and most expensive yacht ever built, with an incredible length of 590 feet (almost the size of one and a half football fields). It took one year to design and three years to actually build – which is another world record you can throw in there.

Priced at a mind-numbing $627 million, it actually cost more than the most expensive island ever bought (the $500 million Larry Ellison paid for Lanai Island), yet it hardly put a dent in the finances of its owner, Sheikh Khalifa Al Nahyan.

The 10 Most-Exciting Yacht Debuts at the Palm Beach International Boat Show

For superyacht shoppers, the Palm Beach International Boat Show, kicking off its four-day run this week, is set to break records with more than 60 yachts over 100 feet long on display. Last year was also a banner year for superyachts at the show. 

Headliners will include the likes of the 295-foot Corsair Nero ,  the 278-foot Victorious by AKYacht, the 230-foot Turquoise-built Talisman C , and 213-foot Benetti Triumph among brokerage yachts, and in new yachts, the 113-foot Ocean Alexander Puro 35 is making its world debut.  

There are so many gleaming white vessels over 100 feet, in fact, that the fleet will be split between the Palm Harbor Marina at the main show site on the downtown West Palm Beach waterfront and the Safe Harbor Rybovich Marina two miles north. 

Now in its 42nd year, PBIBS will also showcase hundreds of models of dayboats, cruisers, and fishing boats, as well as marine accessories. Running from this Thursday through Sunday, the show coincides with the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show, a fortuitous opportunity for yacht owners wanting to add new art to their collections.

Here are 10 must-see boats at this year’s show.

Corsair Yachts ‘Nero’

The undisputed star of this year’s Palm Beach show? That would be the 295-foot, classically styled superyacht Nero , built in 2007 and inspired by American financier J.P. Morgan’s legendary 1930s steamer Corsair IV . Nero ‘s attendance at PBIBS marks its return to the charter market after an extensive refit in 2021. Now better than new, the boat is being managed by Burgess. With weekly charter rates from $497,000, the vessel offers five-star accommodations for 12 guests in six cabins, with pampering from a crew of 20. Part of the refit included a full interior refresh by Italian interior designer Laura Pomponi, plus a major focus on wellness. That meant the construction of a new, state-of-the-art gym and spa, the assistance of a certified onboard trainer, a masseuse and beautician. After PBIBS, Nero will spend the winter in the Caribbean before returning to the Med for the summer season.

Ocean Alexander Puro 35P

Ocean Alexander is debuting the first of its new Puro superyacht series at PBIBS. The 113-foot Puro 35P comes from the drawing board of Italian designer Giorgio M. Cassetta and is a step back from the polarizing lines of OA’s recent Revolution and Explorer series with their bold, vertical bow designs. Aimed at long-distance cruising, the 35P can carry over 5,000 gallons of fuel and is powered by twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s for a 24-knot top speed. Twin 55kW Kohler generators can also keep the yacht powered at anchor for long periods. Other standout features include extensive glazing in the chiseled fiberglass hull, a forward deck plunge pool, and spacious accommodations for 10 guests. 

Think of it as the “starter” Sirena. Aimed at a younger demographic, the Turkish builder’s brand-new Sirena 48 is making its U.S. debut at PBIBS after a global reveal at last fall’s Cannes boat show. Such is its appeal that 27 hulls have already been sold, with 13 of the orders coming from North America. Looking like a scaled-down version of Sirena’s popular 58, its distinctive, trawler-style lines are from Argentinian designer Germán Frers. With more interior space than a typical 48-footer, the yacht offers three staterooms—plus a crew cabin—a spacious, light-filled salon, a large cockpit, an oversized flybridge, and a vast forward social area. Take your pick from twin 550 hp Cummins QSB, or 670 hp Volvo D11 turbo diesels. Or the builder is also offering hybrid power with twin 285 hp electric motors charged up by variable-speed generators that are good for a 30-mile battery-only range.

Feadship ‘Olympus’

Picture purchasing a classic 180-foot Feadship superyacht, and then getting a $10 million bill for a major refit. That was the case with Olympus , built by the Dutch masters at Feadship in 1996 to a design by Britain’s Andrew Winch and the celebrated naval architect Frits De Voogt. Sold in 2022, the new owner sent it to the Monaco Marine refit center in La Ciotat, France for a major makeover. It included overhauling the 2,600 hp Caterpillar engines and generators, repairs to the structure, substantial upgrades to the guest areas and crew quarters, and new paint throughout. With the work completed just last year, the vessel is said to be in mint condition. Offered jointly by brokers Fraser and Edmiston, Olympus has an asking price of $28.5 million. With accommodations for 16 guests in eight cabins, the boat’s highlights include two primary suites, tropical-spec air conditioning, and Palm Beach-chic decor.

Benetti ‘Triumph’

Italian yachting powerhouse Benetti is showing off its superyacht-building skills with the 213-foot Triumph . Delivered in 2021, this Giorgio M. Cassetta-designed steel-and-aluminum world girder features six decks, a 1,400-square-foot primary suite with outdoor terrace and adjoining lounge, a 750-square-foot beach club, and a touch-and-go helipad. What sets Triumph apart, however, is its lavish interior furnishings put together by the owner along with Benetti Interior Style and Monaco-based Green & Mingarelli Design. It includes pieces by French glassmaker Lalique, marble from Marfil, Statuario and Armani, furs, silk and wool carpets, plus a collection of cool black-and-white wildlife photographs by British fine art photographer David Yarrow. The pièce de résistance? That would be the owner’s Triumph Bonneville motorcycle displayed in the salon.

Fjord 39 XP/XL

Germany’s Fjord Yachts, part of the Hanse Group, has a new 39-foot day boat that it’s unveiling at the Palm Beach show. The 39 XP and XL keep all the bold design cues of the bigger Fjord 41 XP and XL, like a big, open cockpit, walkaround center console, vertical bow, mile-high windshield and stretched hardtop. As for the differences between the XP and XL, it’s all about power. The XL comes with a choice of twin 320hp Volvo D4 diesels, or bigger 440 hp D6 versions, both with Volvo stern drives. Likely more appealing to U.S. buyers will be the XP powered by twin 400 hp Mercury Verado V10 outboards giving a 50-knot top speed. Pricing starts at around $500,000.

Turquoise ‘Talisman C’

Chandeliers don’t come more dramatic than this. Cascading down the central spiral staircase of the Turkish-built, 231-foot superyacht Talisman C , this jaw-dropping piece of art comprises an array of multi-colored glass balls threaded on stainless-steel rods and illuminated by hanging fiber-optic strands. It’s the creation of Prague-based Crystal Caviar and is one of a number of glass installations on this sleek, low-profile superyacht. Built in 2011 by the Proteksan Turquoise shipyard, Talisman C was designed inside and out by London-based studio H2 Yacht Design, with naval architecture by Italy’s Hydro Tec. With cabins for 12 guests, one of its highlights is a huge primary suite, which boasts more crystal chandeliers and a private library. Twin 2,447 hp Caterpillar diesels give a top speed of 18 knots and a transatlantic range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. It’s listed with Burgess for $59.9 million. 

Sanlorenzo 44 ‘Kamakasa’

Delivered in 2020 and sold to a new buyer just last August, the 146-foot Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy Kamakasa will be for sale at PBIBS. The asking price, through the Italian Yacht Group, is $23.75 million. Lack of use might also be the issue here; the yacht’s twin 2,600 hp MTU V16 diesels have a mere 289 hours on the clock. Built in aluminum to a design by Rome-based Zuccon International Project, Kamakasa was the second hull in the Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy series. One of the top features is a primary suite that spans three levels and almost 1,600 square feet; it also comes with a private Jacuzzi, separate bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a private study. The yacht’s lightweight construction and MTU power combine to deliver an impressive 20-knot top speed.

Bahama 41 GT2

As ultimate, reel-’em-in, fishing center consoles go, the Bahama 41 from West Palm Beach-based Bahama Boat Works is as hard-core as they come. But when owners kept asking for a little more comfort for the family, the builder responded. The result is the brand-new flagship 41 GT debuting at PBIBS. While the proven, wave-slicing hull stays the same, the cockpit layout is new. In place of the single bench seat, there are now three-across bucket seats with a second row behind. The wider console now has space for a pair of 22-inch Garmin screens, while the new extended hardtop features sun shades and even a rain shower. Outboard choices stay the same with either twin Mercury V12 600s, or four 400 hp Mercury V10s, good for a 65-knot-plus top speed. Pricing is from around $920,000.

Heesen ‘Book Ends’

Launched in 2022, this 164-foot Heesen is part of the Book Ends collection, owned by an American couple who have had more than 18 yachts with the same name. The exterior design of this Heesen was by Omega Architects, while Dutch studio Van Oossanen did the naval architecture. The yacht is part of Heesen’s fast cruising series, which is more efficient than other vessels its size, and can reach 23 knots at full speed with its MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines. The yacht is listed through Ocean Independence for 42 million Euro, or about $45.7 million.

Top 10 largest sailing yachts in the world

The list of the top ten largest sailing yachts in the world is not easily disrupted. In fact, it had remained unchanged since the launch of the 106.7-metre Oceanco Black Pearl in 2018, which swiped the top spot from Lürssen 's 93-metre Eos . For four years, Black Pearl remained the largest yacht in the world until early in 2023 when Oceanco sent a new flagship down the slipway, the mighty 127-metre Koru . 1. Koru | 127m

Leading this list is a new entry: Oceanco 's record-breaking 127-metre sailing yacht Koru . Commissioned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Koru has been the subject of much speculation for years but was revealed in all its glory in 2021. Not only is she the largest sailing yacht in the world, she is also the largest superyacht ever to be built in the Netherlands. Her name, Koru, is the Māori word meaning "new beginnings" and she is accompanied by a 75-metre support vessel named Abeona . She was delivered in 2023 and is over 20 metres longer than the former title-holder Black Pearl.

Instantly recognisable with her black sails and Dynarig set-up, Black Pearl is the second-largest sailing yacht in the world. Delivered during the same year as 142.81-metre Sailing Yacht A (officially designated as a sail-assisted motor yacht), Black Pearl spent five years in development at Dutch yard Oceanco . Dykstra Naval Architects , Ken Freivokh , Nuvolari Lenard , BMT Nigel Gee and Gerard P Villate all contributed their expertise to this monumental project, which looks set to turn heads the world over for decades to come. She is often compared to Maltese Falcon , the first Dynarig superyacht, but boasts a number of technological advancements. She flies 25 per cent more sail area with hinging spars that fold down to allow her to pass through the Panama Canal, but it is what lies beneath that really counts. Two variable pitch propellers harness kinetic energy while she is under sail, which can run the hotel or recharge the batteries, allowing her to cross oceans without expending a drop of fuel.

Eos was built in Germany under a cloak of secrecy for her American media and movie mogul Barry Diller. Eos is a three-masted Bermuda rigged schooner and was refitted at Royal Huisman in 2011. After emerging from her refit the yacht caught fire in Norway and had to return to the yard to be repaired.

4. Athena | 90m

Athena was built by the Royal Huisman in Holland for US software developer Jim Clark. Athena's advanced engineering means that she is able to sail in relatively light airs, while still offering the interior space typically only found on motor yachts. In stronger winds, Athena has been credited as attaining 19 knots under sail. The yacht's three closed decks include a large owner's suite, four guest suites, a saloon and dining room on the main deck and a sky lounge on the upper deck. Her clipper-bow and three-masted schooner sprung from the boards of Pieter Beeldsnijder (exterior styling) and Dykstra Naval Architects (naval architecture).

5. Maltese Falcon | 88m

Maltese Falcon  was built for the late American venture capitalist Tom Perkins. The iconic three-masted schooner is the fifth-largest sailing yacht in the world. Maltese Falcon's rig is made up of three unstayed, 'weapons-grade' carbon fibre masts, with a fully computerised sail and rotating mast system. The system has been dubbed a triumph of design, development and engineering and Maltese Falcon has topped an impressive 24 knots under sail. The Ken Freivokh interior is a marriage of industrial chic and high tech. It features leather, glass, wood and steel as well as a modern art collection. The yacht has accommodation for 12 guests and is available for charter.

The highly anticipated Aquijo was the result of a collaboration between Vitters and Oceanco. Both Dutch yards worked closely with the owner's representative to create a highly complex, performance-driven sailing machine that became the third largest sailing superyacht when launched. Aquijo is an aluminium ketch-rigged yacht, and features a custom steering system. Aquijo's interior layout provides clear sight lines thanks to her high-volume superstructure.

7. Sea Eagle II | 81m

Delivered in 2020, Sea Eagle II is the most recent addition to the top ten largest sailing yachts in the world. Built by Royal Huisman, Sea Eagle II features exterior styling by Mark Whiteley and naval architecture penned by Dykstra Naval Architects . Sold in summer 2016 by  Northrop & Johnson  as Project RH400,  Sea Eagle II  is the largest yacht ever built by the Dutch yard.

8. M5 | 78.4m

Built by Vosper Thorneycroft in Southampton, England, M5  was launched as the iconic yacht Mirabella V in 2004. She remains the world’s largest sloop to date. M5 was designed by Ron Holland for American yachtsman Joe Vittoria, who enjoyed sailing her for seven years before she was sold on. The new owner renamed her M5 and she was extended by 3.2 metres in a refit at  Pendennis  before her relaunch in 2013. Her most recent refit , however, in 2019, saw M5 emerge from the sheds with all new paint-work, composite biminis, a reinforced mast and a new bow-thruster.

M5 has a displacement of 780 tonnes (165 tonnes of which is the keel). The carbon fibre mast is an amazing 88.3 metres tall and can carry approximately 3,700 square metres of sail.

9. Badis | 70m

The second largest Perini Navi sailing yacht to date, Badis was built for the multiple superyacht owner Bill Duker and launched in 2016 as Sybaris . The name comes from a Greek settlement in ancient Italy that was famed for its hedonism, feasts and excesses. Featuring naval architecture and sailplan optimisation by Philippe Briand, this all-aluminium ketch can host up to 12 guests across six cabins. Interiors are by PH Design with a total internal volume of 870GT, while the crew quarters allow for a staff of up to 11. Under power, Badis's twin MTU 16V 2000 M72 diesel engines generate a total of 3,860hp, resulting in a top speed of 17.5 knots and a maximum cruising range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12.5 knots.

10. Atlantic | 69.3m

Atlantic might have the looks of an old classic but don't be fooled, this modern three-masted schooner was delivered in 2010 to an owner with a penchant for classic sailing yachts. She was built from scratch as a replica of the famous 64.5-metre Townsend & Downey schooner by the same name built in 1903. The sailing yacht made history when she set the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing in 1905 - a record that remained unbroken for nearly 100 years - but she was sadly scrapped in 1982. Inspired by its legacy, owner Ed Kastelein built a replica as a tribute to the record-breaking classic at the Van de Graaf shipyard in the Netherlands. The new Atlantic 's three masts stand 50 metres high and support 1,700 square metres of sails with 36 winches in bronze built specially by Harken.

However, these monstrous feats of engineering are more than just hulking vessels. Each of the entries on this list are truly marvellous examples of design and technical innovations, possessing a slew of features above and below deck. Each and every of them is a piece of art and no wonder you can  buy a research paper  with detailed description on particular vessel and its design. Without further ado, here are the world’s largest yachts.

• Azzam (180.61 metres)

German shipyard Lürssen is famous for their near monopoly in the construction of gigantic superyachts. Unveiled in October of 2013, Azzam has held onto its title of largest privately owned superyacht for almost 8 years. The interior design was done by Christophe Leoni who opted for French Empire stylings. Exteriors were done up by Nauta Yacht design while engineering was overseen by Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi. With a top speed of over 31.5 knots, courtesy of her ingenious water-jet propulsion, the behemoth that is Azzam defies the notion that large yachts must be slow.

2. Eclipse (162.5 metres)

Eclipse previously held the title of largest superyacht for three years since leaving the shipyard of Blohm+Voss in 2010, Azzam’s delivery. Eclipse features custom interior finishing specially developed by Terence Disdale Design, who was in charge of everything regarding interior design, deck layout, and superstructure design and construction. Eclipse boasts a wide range of features, incuding a 16 metre swimming pool, which can be turned into a dance floor, and the ability to hold three helicopters. She has won a number of awards including Motor Yacht of the Decade at the 2015 World Superyacht Awards.

3. Dubai (162 metres)

This superyacht is fittingly named for it is the royal yacht of Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum of Dubai. She was originally commissioned by Prince Jefri of Brunei in collaboration with Blohm+Voss and Andrew Winch. However, her superstructure was only partially done when the project was suspended. Dubai’s government then bought over the project and entrusted its construction to Kostis Antonopoulos of Platinum Yachts . The royal yacht has a wide range of facilities befitting its owner’s status. Dubai’s five VIP suites and six guest suites all feature open balconies and were specially designed by Nakheel Interiors. She also features a submarine garage and a landing platform for a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. 4. Dilbar (156 metres)

While Azzam is deemed world’s largest yacht when looking at length, Dilbar, 30 metres shorter than Azzam, dominates in terms of interior volume at 15,917 GT. The Espen Øino -designed superyacht belongs to Uzbekistani billionaire Alisher Usmanov. Dilbar possesses some truly ground-breaking features which include a 180 cubic-metre pool and a 30,000 kilowatt electric diesel power plant. Despite her large volume, she accommodates only 24 guests within her 3,800 square metres of living space, but boasts an astounding 100 strong crew, ensuring that visitors receive the undivided care and attention.

5. Al Said (155 metres)

The principle vessel of Oman’s Royal Yacht Squadron, Al Said was named after her owner, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman. The 155 metre yacht was also designed by Espen Øino and constructed at Lürssen’s Vegesack shipyard under the moniker “Project Sunflower”. Al Said ups the ante with an even greater crew of 150 members and accommodation for 65 guests. She boasts large spaces for entertaining guests with her show piece being the on-board concert hall, with room for an orchestra of 50 musicians.

6. El Mahrousa (150.57 metres)

Delivered in 1865 by the Samuda Brothers shipyard, El Mahrousa is the oldest vessl on this list. She is a classic example of superyacht design, holding onto the title of largest yacht in the world for well over a century until Prince Abdulaziz came along in 1984. El Mahrousa was originally built for Khedive Ismail, the Ottoman governor of Egypt and was used to receive dignitaries during the historic opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. Over the years she has been rebuilt several times, first in 1872, where she was lengthened by 12.1 metres and had her paddle wheels removed, then in 1905, and 1950. After falling into disrepair, she was restored for the Christopher Columbus Fleet Review. El Mahrousa now serves as the Egyptian Presidential Yacht and is maintained by the Egyptian Navy.

7. A+ (147.25 metres)

Delivered by Lürssen in 2012, this Tim Heywood -designed vessel is one yacht that is shrouded in mystery. She used to be called Topaz but was renamed A+ in 2019, and flies under a Cayman flag. Her owner is rumoured to be Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, one the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) elites, who owns Manchester City football club . A+’s interior design was done by Terence Disdale Design and features, like many others on this list, a helipad. She was known to have been chartered twice by Leonardo DiCaprio but apart from that, little else is known about her.

8. Prince Abdulaziz (147.01 metres)

Berthed beside the Saudi King’s palace in Jeddah, Prince Abdulaziz serves the Saudi royal family as their royal yacht. She was built in 1984 by Helsingor Vaerft, a Denmark-based shipyard, to Maierform’s design, for King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. She replaced El Mahrousa as the world’s largest yacht at the time. Prince Abdulaziz reportedly cost US$184 million to build and features tasteful interior designs by the late David Hicks, who fused modern and classic aesthetics. Her large lobby is even said to have been based off the Titanic’s . As befits the yacht of the Saudi royal family, she features a mosque, cinema, and, if speculations are to be believed, surface-to-air missiles and underwater surveillance systems.

9. Sailing Yacht A (142.81 metres)

Sailing Yacht A is the second superyacht, after Motor Yacht A, to be commissioned by Russian Industrialist and billionaire, Andrey Melnichenko . She was designed by Philippe Starck and built by German shipyard Nobiskrug in 2017. Unlike the others on this list, Sailing Yacht A, as its name suggests, is sail-assisted. She can set 3,747 square metres of sail, which work alongside her computer-controlled diesel-electric power plant. With her eight decks, she comfortably accommodates a crew of 54 members. Sailing Yacht A sports a myriad of innovative features like an underwater viewing pod, balconies enclosed by pieces of curved glass of record-breaking sizes, and the world’s tallest carbon masts at 100 metres above sea level.

10. Nord (142 metres)

Delivered in 2021, Nord is the latest offering on our list. She has gone by many names, first as Project Redwood during her construction, then Opus, before finally becoming Nord. She is a fantastic example of design innovation in the world of superyachts. Designed by Nuvolari Lenard , she boasts a plethora of facilities on board. These include a beach club, a water sport and dive centre, two helipads, and a tender garage with “space to store a plethora of toys including 16 tenders, a submarine and an ROV”, according to build manager Rob Moran. On her mast, an array of four satellite domes can be seen. Nord has 20 suites which can house up to 36 guests in unabashed luxury.

The only thing I think of when I see such extravagant luxury and the extreme amount of materialistic items these individuals purchase is: imagine if the super rich actually did something constructive with their loot. I don’t know … clean up the environment; fix everything mankind has done to this sick planet so there’s something left for our kids, grandkids to enjoy; feed the homeless; pour money into the education systems; rid the world of poverty etc. What a legacy! But, nope, instead they’ll still spend 150,000$ on a dress they might wear once, $30 M on a house they don’t even live in … all just to feed their ego. It’s unreal and so sad.

You guys do realize what happens after the yachts are built that your crediting billionaires for buying? Do you think that just because they spent billions for a yacht that it will employ and pay for 100’s of life’s forever? Do you realize that the money from these billionaires buying these yachts is being handed to another greedy hand? I do agree that if you have the money, spend it. Hi, if you all permit me to add another comment to this article after reading all yours, other than 2-4 of you looking at this article in a negative way, the majority are between envy and looking forward to step in the owners shoes. Very common to human being throughout their evolution to acquire, and those who have been looked at as the privileged, while the rest would be part of feeding that machine or work for it and for reasons beyond this permitted space. My 2 cents in the whole discussion is from several point of view, we pride ourselves that we are at point of history where freedom of expression, action and knowledge never been so high, maybe few parts of homo sapiens history like Greece where we can say matching if not more (factoring 2500 years of delay), I have no comments on anybody’s behavior, but 1st rule in life is modesty of acquisition and accumulation to fulfill our need and our security (both are fulfilled in this day and age and if not because again human intentional decision not to help others of their kind which other animal species doesn’t behave as same) , most of who I see and read about who shop beyond their need in life and fill their closet to the point that these closets are apartment sizes while these goods are hardly used several times if not left with their tags. Not walking the (saving the planet road) but to think of how much small shirt need of water to produce or any of that, I can’t but see that there is strong schizophrenia in behaviour and thinking, that we carry on criticizing to protect this precious suffocating planet and at the same time falling prey to these kind of behaviour. It’s funny how so many of you are like “Well they could spend that on less fortunate people or those in need.” They already probably are, and then they’re rewarding themselves for helping those people. Money is a unit of measure rendered to you based on the amount of people you serv; and most of you have money problems because you only serve one person: YOUR BOSS. Easy for you to say. You have people working for you most likely, where as the rest of us cannot afford to pay the bills because cost of living is so high it’s ridiculous. We live in a world where a family of four with an income of $30,000 a year is considered below the poverty line. Just think about that for a moment, realize what that means. 50 years ago $30,000 a year was enough for a family of four to buy a decent 3 bedroom house with garage on a 1 acre plot, live comfortably, pay for their kids to go to college, go on family vacations, camping trips, eat healthy, and afford healthcare without breaking the bank. Now that same $30,000 isn’t enough to buy a trailer, or pay for college. You can barely afford basic health insurance, deductibles are stupidly high and most insurance companies expect you to pay the deductible up front first before they’ll pick up the rest of the bill, and most families these days just don’t have that kind of money available anymore. 50 years ago, sure, but nowadays, no. The “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.” nonsense is a blatant cop-out by those who possess the means to do so. Try living on $9.00/hour 40 hr/week and $7.75/hour 38 hours/week on average working two full time jobs where your paychecks barely cross $300.00 and that’s if you get paid any overtime, your weekly income is at best $550.00 after taxes leaving you to care for a family of four on $2,200.00 to maybe $2,400.00 a month. Your monthly groundline/internet phone bill is $80 on average, no cable tv, maybe stream Netflix or Hulu plus not both for about $15 a month, (there’s your “luxury” hardee har har), used car payment to a cheesy used car dealership of a $100.00/month plus car insurance at $80/month. $600.00/month rent on a 3 bedroom apartment, utilities NOT included, so that’s another $100.00 out the window. A food bill that averages close to $250/week to feed everybody, with maybe one dining out trip for the family to Denny’s or something once a month for about maybe $60 including tip, and that’s if you save some extra cash on a couple of your grocery shopping trips. Health insurance bill is $800.00/month and your deductible is like $2,000.00. Gas for the car when gas is hovering around $2.50/gallon and the car is an old retired 2002 Crown Victoria with over 200,000 miles on the odometer and needs work and parts you can’t afford. LIVE ON THAT for a couple years and then you can tell me your story about “Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.” when you have to live like that. Where can you save money for college? When both spouses work full time just to make ends meet, no time for the kids. No family time. No vacations. When the most luxurious thing you own is a used video game console you bought from the local pawn shop for $60 and that was a Christmas gift for the kids to share. Man you rich people are so out of touch with the rest of humanity it makes us all sick. That is how rich people talk, people who look down their noses at people like us because you “Worked for your dreams and goals in life.” Wake up to the reality of the world we live in now. Working for your dreams is no longer a possibility for people like us. WE CAN’T HAVE DREAMS ANYMORE because people LIKE YOU have taken those dreams away. You people with your bottom lines, profit margins, and satisfying your so-called investors when it is us the rank and file who put in all the real work, while we’re left to beg for crumbs from our master’s table. WE DO WORK HARD and we work a hell of a lot harder than you EVER HAVE! So don’t sit there like some High and Mighty GOD and preach to us like we’re the lazy ones. You do the work I do every single day for the pay I get and I dare you to call me lazy. I dare you to call my wife lazy. I dare you to call all the rest of us who work our fingers to the bone for the most ungrateful people on the damn planet, lazy. Like as if it isn’t hard enough for us when the only thanks we get is our pay getting cut, or hours cut, overtime pay cancelled, or simply not meted out, our staff numbers cut, workloads increased so we have to do more for less all so some fat greedy exec can afford a $4.5 billion dollar boat. Like he actually works for a living,… don’t make me laugh. Your considerations of our plight is about as fake and empty as that cheap smile you wear on your face while people like you get $1.5 trillion dollars in tax cuts, just so you can go and buy back stocks. Then just to make yourselves look profitable you close down factories and shift even more jobs over seas to 3rd world countries where you can have 12 year old girls and boys working 16/hour a day shifts making cheap products on the backs of legalized slave labor. Eventually, your $4.5 billion dollar boats will mean nothing, your $6 billion dollar palace estates will mean nothing as this artificial financial bubble you’ve inflated for yourselves will pop and it will be you who have the farthest to fall and you will only have yourselves and your own damn greed to blame.

Haha @Angry_Peasant, holy smokes you just hit my nail square on the head. Sad, sad thing nowadays. However, you was being slightly tight on those numbers. $350 (used car) $150 (insurance 4 car) $750 health insurance deductible paid upfront, $650 RENT for a rough house in a NOT SO PLEASANT area (meaning I dont have weekly murders but there is plenty of “friendly corner salesmen if you catch my drift”, $300 weekly food bill UNLESS we fall behind in our rent/bills which happens at Christmas or if we decide to treat our kids to 2 days at Kings Island as a “vacation ” bcuz they earn it by getting A’s n B’s in school and it crushes parents to hear your 4 kids ask if they can do something fun this summer. And we fall behind trust me that $300 food bill goes down to $150ish (lots of spaghetti n ramen noodles, cereal, hamburgers hotdogs etc. Utility bills are more like $250 if prices dont go up from greedy companies. Oh yea, I work 60+ hrs a week and my wife does too. I also have major bone n muscle disorders but cant get treated bcuz I cannot be off work that long to recover. And lets not forget clothes and school supplies. But Im living the dream, just not sure whos dream it is. I am lucky tho. Bcuz I work Maintenance for a Catholic School/church my kids get private schooling. Otherwise, it would be $8500 a child. Luckily its only $3000 for one child in high school and my other 3 in elementary are still free. But maybe with fingers crossed they will get the chance to live their own dreams and not those of someone who spends 1 billion buck-o-roos on a boat bcuz they feel like they earned by giving $10,000 to some charity once a year.

Well …. it is all God’s work!!! The gift of ability, of hard work of investment produces such beauty. There is no end to God’s creative work. Like them all!!! Very relaxing looking at these yachts.

I am religious. BUT i will point out to you… GOD has nothing to do with the Super Yachts or the Super Rich. These creations are purely based on the Demands of the Multi-billionaires out there.

OMG! Number 3.! A replica of a city on water! That’s quite visionary. They even made the plan and know how much it costs. In other words it’s not just an idea, It’s doable.

For me luxury is comfort. A vehicle easy to get in and out of, easy to use, quiet, a suspension somewhere between sports and wallow.

What can I say.. but to gaze at this beautiful toys.. I hail everyone who contributes in building this boats.. I don’t have to envy or condemn any rich man who can afford it.. for me, watching and reading articles like this serve as a motivation for me to work hard and right so that I could buy and own one someday and when I do.. I will name it after my lovely Mother.

In reply to Nigel, Although I sympathize with his comments, it does seem to me that by buying one of these luxury boats, the money that otherwise would have been sitting in some vault somewhere is being put to use. Yes the owner has a big new plaything, but think of all the thousands of people that earned incomes to support their families designing, building, stocking and managing these ships. Literally tens of thousands of peoples income for years (and of course all the people that took care of these people – grocers, barbers, teachers, plumbers, etc. etc.) earned incomes because these ships came into existence.

I’m sure there are many better ways to help people, by giving away the wealth, but spending it on luxury items doesn’t make it disappear – it goes deeply into the economy.

About the ships themselves – they are awesome and beautiful in their own right.

The 4.5 billion dollar number 1 yacht has been exposed as a hoax (fake news) for quite some time. From the photos of the interior. while it does appear very luxurious, I see no evidence of it being festooned with solid gold and platinum.

All media like to buckle repeat so-called “info” nowadays, w/o checking for reliable convergent sources. This ruins here the overall value of the article, that shall then be shortened by 1 item (#1).

“History Supreme” (what a silly name…) is of the same kind as other SH’s “productions” which appear for their most outrageous claims at least, only as digitized & photoshopped fantasies with no hint of tangible reality.

Remember “the most expensive iPhone” @ £28M, “the most expensive house” at $7.5Bn,… So stupid announcements, especially regarding the total rubbish presented.

Reign of the fake, unrealistic & impossible – and already widely exposed as such. Just check the mail exchanges revealed by Computer Choppers (a GENUINE craftman of precious tech gadgetry…)

FYI, there is a $1Bn+ yacht on offer that could replace the fake section as #1: a 145m unit that is only a project yet. Called “Admiral X-Force” and designed by Dobroserdov, MC.

You’re an idiot. It’s called hard work and significance. They should be spending money on the less fortunate? Darling, what money have YOU given to the less fortunate? Have you given millions to those in need? To veterans, kids in Africa? NO? Then shut up. just because someone chooses to spend their earnings from SERVING OTHER PEOPLE differently doesn’t mean they’re wrong. It means you’re selfish and working a job that only pays your bills and supports no one else but you and your family. Hi Ashley, Why the name calling? You could just as easily be the “idiot” in this discussion. You seem to have a giving nature at heart, however me thinks thou dost protest too much,really. As you already know the truism, “with great wealth comes great responsibility.” Keep up the good work. Yachts will come, which I don’t begrudge you, although they will be decidely secondary to the goodness of your actions and of your soul?

If we add up the cost of the yachts in the article, it comes out to well over 7 billion dollars. The buyers could have just left their money sitting in a bank. THAT would have been savage. But by choosing to spend it on these yachts, they handed that 7 billion dollars over to the tens of thousands of people who designed, engineered, built, maintained, and maybe even took the pics seen in the ad. Rich people buying what they choose is what employs everybody else. How much payroll tax did the jobs involved with creating these yachts generate? Local govts can pay their fire dept and police. The kids can have their public parks – and let’s not leave out the money anyone involved may have choze to give to charity as well. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Yacht buyer, Lear Jet owner, Mansion dweller… your money spent is our money earned.

To understand the litigation and regulatory risks that are coming in 2024 for private capital, it is helpful to look back briefly on recent events. Arguably, the single most important event over the last 18 months was the rapid increase in interest rates by the central banks in the United States, England, and Europe. From March 2022 to August 2023, the Federal Reserve increased interest rates at the fastest clip in more than 40 years, to break inflation that had reached the highest levels since the 1970s. 

These actions had a profound impact on the private capital markets. Activity declined across the entire private capital landscape, with slowing capital formation and investment. The cryptocurrency market collapsed in the second half of 2022. Meanwhile, fundraising slowed dramatically in 2023. IPO activity also slowed to its slowest pace in over four years. M&A activity declined, resulting in fewer lending deals for private credit. Technology-focused funds and their portfolio companies, in particular, faced significant challenges, as operating costs increased, the cost of capital increased, and multiples declined. Meanwhile, default rates on loans started to increase, with fewer options for refinancings, as interest rates increased and business fundamentals weakened. In short, the entire private capital market was adjusting to the volatile shift from a low interest rate, high growth environment to a high interest rate, slower growth environment. 

At the same time, there were positive signs in the broader economy, especially more recently, including strong employment indicators and declining inflation. The public release of ChatGPT4 in late 2022 fueled intense interest in AI, leading to a new technology investment cycle reminiscent of the early days of the internet following the release of Netscape Navigator in 1994.  In addition, the stock market boomed – not only as a result of exuberance over AI, but also with the prospect of a soft-landing and interest rate cuts in 2024.

Higher interest rates and operating costs will put stress on certain portfolio companies, with controversies over layoffs and liquidations, putting pressure on boards and sponsor appointed directors (see our Portfolio Company Playbook). That said, there is a lot of dry powder to make new investments and geopolitical events have driven interest in defense tech and related sectors.

Alongside the macro-economic factors, asset managers must grapple with an ever-evolving regulatory landscape as new regulations over past years, and in development, will lead to increased enforcement activity.
