The Yacht Week Croatia Review: Know Before Your Go

Perhaps you've heard to rumours, the stories, and the legends about the Yacht Week. It sounds awesome. But so did the Taco Bell Cheese Roll-Up burrito . It is all hype, or is it the real deal? This Yacht Week Croatia review has the answers.

In the interest of educating the masses, I sacrificed myself. From Aug 9-17 ten buddies and I embarked on the Yacht Week Croatia in search of the truth.

We found it.

My Yacht Week Croatia review summary is that it's awesome…  b ut   i t's not for everyone.  And there are definitely some things you should know in advance. Here are some key figures to shed light into the inner workings of the mayhem and help you prepare for your own experience:

And for those of you who don’t know what the Yacht Week is, watch this video:

The Yacht Week Croatia Review by the Numbers:

Number of nationalities represented at Yacht Week.Somewhat surprisingly there was nobody from Russia, the Middle East (not even Israel), or Asia. Nevertheless, the chance to cavort with and befriend people like you from around the world was definitely a highlight of the Yacht Week.

Number of nationalities representing 80% of the yacht weekers: American, Australian, Brazilian, Spanish, and German. In other words, while the Yacht Week Croatia draws a worldwide clientele, it's not THAT diverse.

Nationalities we had on our boat, “The Love Boat”: German, Swedish, Swiss, Canadian, Portuguese, South African, and Namibian. This definitely played to our advantage in drawing the attention of other boats.

Estimated age of the average yacht weeker. The youngest were 22 and oldest closing on forty, but most were in the late 20s to early 30s range.

Average age of the skippers, who are supposed to keep everything in control. No wonder chaos ensued.

This may be crude, but no Yacht Week Croatia review would be complete without sharing how much sex goes on. Fifteen is the number of girls the eight single guys in our crew “got intimate” with during the week. Just under two girls per guy might not seem like a lot, but most of our crew settled on “Yacht Week girlfriends”, meaning they hooked up with the same girl each night. If getting laid is one of your objectives at Yacht Week Croatia, you're in luck. It is very easy.

Percentage of yacht weekers who were female. At least. If anything, there were more girls than guys. Everyone—guys and girls—seemed to agree it was an ideal ratio.

Yacht Week Croatia circle raft

Estimated total number of hours we were actually at sea. And some of that was early in the morning while we were sleeping. The vast majority of our time was spent anchored or at harbor. The Yacht Week is not about boating; it's all about partying.

Hours we actually had the sails up. We only put our sails up twice in the whole trip.

Estimated average sleep quality score, out of 100 during the trip. The cabins get unbearably hot at night. This forces you to sleep on deck, which is not designed for sleeping. And sleeping outside leads to an inevitable early wake up as soon as the sun comes up. I’d recommend following the skippers’ lead: bring a hammock and something to cover your eyes.

Number of full meals we ate per day. With the exception of one egg salad, that meal was always pasta. Other than that, for sustenance we snacked on fruit, cereal, pizza, sausages, bread, and booze.

eating at Yacht Week Croatia

Boats doing the same route as us, the Yacht Week Croatia Black Route. At the same time, 46 other boats were doing the Red Route, which is the same route but in the other direction. That’s a lot of boats and a lot of partiers.

$850 (4900 kuna)

Total spent on groceries at the Getro by the marina before sailing off for the first time. We ate it all and then some.

$35 (200 kuna)

Amount we were extorted into paying for the 250 meter taxi ride to bring our haul of groceries from the Getro supermarket to the Marina Kastela. Bring some dollies or carts from the marina so you can push the stuff back yourselves and avoid being ripped off.

$10, $1, $0.5

Approximate cost of a bottle of vodka, a can of beer, and a kilogram of bananas respectively at the supermarket by the marina where we started our trip.

$30, $2.50, $3

Cost of the same vodka, beer, and bananas at the harbor by Hvar where we spent two nights. Buy as much as you can at the begging in order to save money.

$260 (1500 kuna)

Amount each of the eleven in our crew contributed to the pot, which was used to pay for joint expenses like groceries, gas, and harbor fees.

$4.50 (25 kuna)

Typical cost of a can of beer at the Yacht Week parties. If you’re a cheap-ass like me, be sure to pre-drink, or make a party mix that you can stash nearby.

$350-$900 (2000 to 5000 kuna)

Cost of getting tables at the parties. Don’t get tables. The parties are free-for-alls and you won’t be spending much time at your table anyways. If you want drinks, buy them individually or take advantage of other people’s tables.

Number of skippers (the guys we paid to captain our boats for us) who said Yacht Week Croatia is their favorite. Without exception, they said they thought the Yacht Weeks in Greece and the US Virgin Islands were better. That’s not to say Croatia is bad at all – it’s awesome – but food for thought for those considering signing up and deciding where to go.

Number of times in my life I will do the Yacht Week. It was an even better time than I expected, but it's the polar opposite of the type of traveling I prefer (blending in) and I’m not sure my body could survive another. Plus, it’s expensive and there are plenty of other experiences and parties to be had in life. I recommend everyone do it once at least. And if you’re crazy, you’ll be back for more.

Disclosure: Whenever possible, we use links that earn us a cut if you pay for stuff we recommend. It costs you nothing, so we'd be crazy not to. Read our affiliate policy .

Just did The Yacht Week Croatia. Wish I read this before going there to be a little bit more prepared. Really liked your article and all the numbers – especially the cost for taxi and food supply. Actually, all the numbers were quite accurate and interesting!

SUPER HELPFUL, thank you!

Glad to hear it, Alexandra! Enjoy the summer

All the guys and girls are so shredded and ripped. Does this mean that the less attractive bodies don’t get a fair chance to get laid ?

Hi Kamlesh. I'd say it's no different from the non Yacht-week world.

Thanks for sharing! Was searching info for the yacht week and found this article helpful.

You're welcome. This post is getting old, so hopefully some of the info in it remains reasonably accurate.

Hi, two things:

1.Im planning to travel in July, should I opt for an AC yacht or non AC one? is the heat really unbearable? 2. A bit embarrassing but I am a snob in these How well equipped are the toilets of the yacht like?

THANK YOU FOR THESE GREAT TIPS. The company emailed my friends and I that our boat is no longer available. Im hearing the ac yacht is not worth it. Some nights the boat ran out of fuel and they didnt have ac until later that morning. What is your opinion?

I had the best time of my life during the yachtweek in Croatia last week of August 2023. We went into the trip with a group of friends and had a lot of fun, great weather, lots of good vibes good music and the people from the yacht week were just amazing ! Big shout out to our host Lizzie, our captain Jessie and Charlotte from the event staff ! I would recommend this week to any people looking to have fun, party and enjoy the beautiful weather and Ocean in Croatia. So sad the week ended, I just want to go back there and keep partying and living my best life !

Hands down the best trip of our lives…

Hands down the best trip of our lives and worth every penny! Our hostess Daryl Surtees and skipper Ashton Hyde are the best in the game and made our week absolutely exceptional! Highly suggest adding a host, booking a catamaran, and bottle service everywhere. Also be prepared for the extra fees that they clearly lay out on the website for you. It’s so nice to just pay them to do all the planning and you just show up to party. Everyone should experience yacht week at least once in their lifetime, I promise you won’t regret it!

Chloe & Ella

Chloe and Ella took the best care of us during my first yacht week so much so that I had to go again a few weeks later to experience it all again. Everything was pre planned so all I had to do was turn up and well… TURN UP. I couldn’t recommend it and them anymore than I am right now because I never expected to meet so many amazing people on the other boats as well as the yacht week crew and skippers. The parties were insane, the food was just as good if not better because of the never ending hangovers 😭 honestly 100/10 experience !!!

Best week ever

My experience was great thanks to the great organization behind the Yacht week. All is perfectly planned so you don’t need to worry at all. The fact that they have their own events help you meet all the people coming in your trip. Also I believe YW attracts the best people to their crews as I have met incredible individuals. I rate the week as 10/10 hands down.

Matilda and Georgia were the real MVP's

Matilda and Georgia were real gems! Truly felt as though they were part of our group the entire time. From making us laugh, feeling safe, and giving us great recommendations I couldn't recommend them and yacht week enough!

YOU HAVE TO DO IT

Had an amazing week! Did the Croatia route and everyday I was in complete awe of how incredibly well thought out and put together everything is organised and how stunning the places that they take you are! They tailor the week based on the weather which is great and the parties are absolutely insane, you can't have one bad night! Our host and skipper made sure everything ran smoothly and that we knew what the plan was each day and how to get to and from the events - And the food the host cooks are fantastic (Don't skimp out, just get one!)

Everything about the Yacht Week…

Everything about the Yacht Week (Original Croatia Route) was great from start to finish. All the staff were so helpful in terms of answering the many questions we had and the organisation of the water taxis and parties was so well done! The music exceeded my expectations and the Yacht Week was the most fun and beautiful way to experience the islands of Croatia. Costly, but worth it as it was hands down one of the best weeks of my life. I would certainly recommend it to anyone that loves the sea, meeting new people and partying :D

Vacation of a lifetime

Vacation of a lifetime. All of the hype you see in videos and marketing material don't even compare to how much actual fun this week is. You get everything you could want in a vacation; seeing new places, relaxing in the sun, insane partying, great food, and meeting new people from around the world. All the while, you're on a yacht. While the trip may seem expensive, I would say that it's worth the investment. Don't pass up on a host either, it will make or break your trip without getting one.

The most epic adventure of my life

I’ve dreamed of going to yacht week for years, this year I was finally able to go and it went beyond my expectations. This vacation is more than just time on a boat - it is an adventure of a lifetime. The company did an impressive job organizing all the events for a large group of 70 boats in w27. Each day felt like a new chapter in a new location, I was either partying, exploring, or making friends the entire time. Hard to complain when you are having such a good time. The yacht week family will always hold a place in my heart.

A week to remember!!! *****

Absolutely loved this experience ! It was my bday gift from me to me :) and loved it. Staff was amazing ! Very respectful towards women ! I cannot stress how safe and comfortable they made us feel :) parties were great, transfers were great. Looked into doing something similar on my own and it would cost around the same or even more and you don’t have the access and infrastructure they have into Croatia . Loved our skipper Martin ! And absolutely loved the host Olof ( it’s a must to get a host) .

Tiago and Julia are fantastic!

From the moment we arrived Tiago and Julia were awesome. They made us feel comfortable and excited from the very beginning. All of our needs were met and I was blown away by the organization and coordination that the yacht week team demonstrated. We were able to participate in throwing and tying lines and felt like we were all one big crew. The parties were not forced but fluid and everyone just had the best time ever. It was an unforgettable time and we all made friends for a lifetime. I can't wait till next summer!

W28 Ultra route

The yacht week is a organised and created a week of seem less fun. From incredible food and activity recommendations from our Skipper, Caydon, to the beautiful swim spots we visited, meanwhile ensuring we were safe at every turn, while also hyping us up for all TYW special events on each day!! The events crew, especially Charlotte, Roni and Kiara, lit up the vibe every time we saw them, they have contagious energy and can answer any question, we were so grateful (and don’t miss yoga)!! The way all the skippers and crew work together to build the tunnel raft, or to solve any little problem made us feel relaxed and confident. Our little crew on Agrippa had an unforgettable week and already planning the next one 🥳

Amazing experience, even in COVID times!

Our group had an outstanding TYW experience! We were all a bit nervous about taking the trip during COVID, but TYW was really diligent about keeping us safe and protected. Even with the safety precautions, our parties were all total bangers. I've never had such an action-packed vacation. Amazing food, amazing views, and some seriously amazing parties. Definitely recommended! And oh, don't skimp out on the Host. It seriously makes the whole trip!

Ultra Europe + Yacht week = Amazing times

I had an epic time and met some amazing people. I went solo on my trip for the ultra and yacht week combo. Everyone was so welcoming and no bad vibes and we became a family after the week. Our week was like a mix of music festival, spring break, and Las Vegas. Our skipper Sami was great, he went above and beyond, besides getting us to our destinations safely. I wish we could have done a proper regatta, but weather was not in our favor on the planned date. I would highly recommend. I would do again, but interested in trying another route for round 2.

Amazing week

This week in incomparable to any other vacation you will ever go on. Our skipper Marijn and host Aisling were incredible. We were just 2 friends who joined 8 others from across the world and had an awesome time. Thank you!

Amazing experience

Truly had the most amazing week ! My group and I did the Croatia ultra route and 10/10 experience I would recommend it to anyone. Our host Natasha and skipper Ivor made our experience that much more amazing! If I do another one I will definitely be asking for them ! If anyone is going in the future ask for them I promise you will not be disappointed !

DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE SCAM ARTISTS

DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE SCAM ARTISTS. My friend and I booked the Croatia route back in NOVEMBER 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our trip in 2020 was cancelled and then it was post-poned again in 2021 due to the heavy travel restrictions going on due to the different variants last summer. Well a lot of things changed in the past 3 years with the Pandemic etc and my friend and I can no longer attend. We did the payment plan so we have only paid 40% ($1,400/each). Yacht Week if refusing to give us ANY KIND OF REFUND and are telling us our only two options is either attend this year, or pay a 40% cancellation fee which would literally be the $1,400 we have each paid. Customer service is awful and non-responsive, I cant get ahold of any actual human being on the phone. Even though in every email they have sent they have claimed this is our "Biggest and best summer year-to-date" so then why can't they refund us our money and re-sell the cabin. Instead they are going to make an extra $1,400 on each of us and re-sell the cabin anyway. TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

What is The Yacht Week?

The Yacht Week (TYW) describes itself as “an adventure like no other.” Through this company, you and your closest friends can embark on a seven-day trip on the water in a yacht to beautiful destinations. Or you can join a pre-existing yacht if you’re looking to do some solo travel.

To travel with TYW, you simply choose a destination, get your “crew” together (you can travel with up to 12 friends with your very own skipper), choose a package or build your own, and then put down a 10% deposit to secure your sails. For an in-depth look at how to book, check out TYW’s helpful  blog pos t!

When you choose your crew, you can opt to rent a full yacht or reserve solo cabins. If you get a full yacht, you’ll need to fill all 12 spots. If you’d rather not book a full yacht, there’s a  crew finder  option you can use to find already planned trips that have empty spaces. You can also book a double cabin with a friend and be assigned a yacht.

You must be 20 years old by the date of travel to sail with The Yacht Week.

Yacht Week destinations

When choosing where to go with The Yacht Week, there are many  destinations  from which to choose. Depending on your budget, and the time of year you’re looking to travel, different options will be available. You’ll have the freedom with your crew to decide the specifics of where you explore in your chosen destination (there’s no set itinerary beyond the starting port).

Every trip has its own fun highlights, with some including music festivals. According to their website, the destinations and routes are the following:

  • Croatia, Original route. Sails in May, June, July, and August
  • Croatia, Circus meets the sea. Sails in September
  • Croatia, Hideout Festival route. Sails in September
  • Croatia, Ultra route. Sails in July
  • Greece, Athens route. Sails in May, June, and July
  • Montenegro, Adriatic route. Sails in June
  • Sardinia, Emerald Coast route. Sails in September
  • Polynesia, Tahiti route. Sails in April
  • Caribbean, Martinique & St Lucia. Sails in December/January
  • The Bahamas, Abacos route. Sails in March

How much does The Yacht Week cost?

Since there are different destinations you can sail to with TYW, prices vary. With every trip you book, several amenities are included. Every yacht comes with a skipper on board to navigate and sail you through your week at sea. Also included in the cost are seven days of yacht accommodation, access to exclusive events, international DJs, professional photographers, towels and bed linens, cleaning service, and a dinghy to help you get to shore.

On Hideout and Ultra routes, VIP Festival tickets are also included. For budgeting tips straight from The Yacht Week, head  here ! ‍

The Yacht Week's skipper overlooking the yachts

Not covered in the price are port fees, a refundable yachting company deposit, transfers to and from the airport, water taxis, fuel, water, and shore power for the yacht, alcohol, eating out, and additional meals for the skipper.

Since your week-long adventure at sea takes place on a yacht, prices reflect that method of travel. You can pay upfront or in three installments. Here are the starting prices (valid as of July 2021) per person for each of TYW’s destinations:

  • Croatia, Original route. Starts from $931pp
  • Croatia, Circus meets the sea. Starts from $931pp
  • Croatia, Hideout Festival route. Starts from $726pp
  • Croatia, Ultra route. Starts from $1,160pp
  • Greece, Athens route. Starts from $847pp
  • Montenegro, Adriatic route. Starts from $1,036pp
  • Sardinia, Emerald Coast route. Starts from $1,029pp
  • Polynesia, Tahiti route. Starts from $1,228pp
  • Caribbean, Martinique & St Lucia. Starts from $1,302pp
  • The Bahamas, Abacos route. Starts from $1,319pp

Since availability and pricing can change depending on where and when you want to travel, head to TYW’s  booking page  for the most up to date prices.

Food and drink extras

In addition to your base price, you can purchase food and drinks packages. You can add a host to your travels with a premium or luxury package. They’ll cook six dinners, six lunches, and two dinners for you and your crew. If you’re building your own package, prices start at €750.

You can build your own food package starting at €650, or you can opt to provide your own with grocery shops. Mineral water is included in all luxury and premium packages, but you can build your own drinks package starting at €850.

What happens in Yacht Week?

No two trips on TYW are identical, and your itinerary for each day will vary based on your destination, crew, and your skipper. You can expect to spend your day chilling onboard and sailing from port to port, with stops for lunch or a swim. Each day there will also be a Yacht Week party or event you can participate in, along with exploring each port of call’s scenery and local cuisine.

The Yacht Week Reviews

Reviews  for TYW are mostly good and seem to indicate that this is a perfect adventure if you want to spend a week partying on a yacht with some sightseeing. If you’re planning a trip and want to see all the sites, or you aren’t a big partier, TYW is unlikely to tick all your boxes.

Reviews also comment on the fact that your initial price payment doesn’t cover everything needed during the trip. This means you need to budget a sizable amount for all the other associated fees.

Work with The Yacht Week

If you’ve dreamed of living life on the seven seas, sailing, and helping travelers have a great week on board a yacht, think about working for TYW!  Positions available  are mainly seaside, so get your sea legs on and apply!

The Down Lo

The Truth About Going on a Yacht Week in Croatia

yacht week reviews

It’s rare I take vacations with friends these days, but the stars aligned and four (very busy and hard to plan) girls from across the US met up for Yacht Week Croatia, sailing from Dubrovnik to Split across the dazzling Adriatic Sea. In short, it was one of the best weeks of my life and a perfect ending to an amazing summer of adventure.

Here’s an Unfiltered Look at the Experience:

First, it’s important to understand I did not say I went on THE Yacht Week, which is the company most people are familiar with. Their branding is incredibly well known and reaches all corners of the globe (who wouldn’t want to bask under the sun with those hotties in the promo video ?). The truth is, there are many competitors to Yacht Week Croatia – sailing companies that offer week on a yacht for a set fee so if you’re considering Sail Week vs Yacht Week, make sure you consider all your options and read the reviews. We did our homework and chose to embark with the Sail Week Croatia for a number of reasons – and I’m pleased to report our expectations were far exceeded.

Why We Chose Sail Week  Croatia over the Yacht Week: Itinerary and Price

The Itinerary: A lot of the companies we researched (ahem: The Yacht Week Croatia) looked extraordinarily spring breaky, promising young 20-somethings the perfect girl to guy ratio and Europe’s hottest nightclubs. They offer Party Weeks, Ultra Week (to the huge music fest), and basically a week of binge drinking. That would’ve been great 10 years ago, but when you’re in your 30s, you usually want to remember the experience. Sail Week has that kind of trip too, but what caught our eye was Adventure Week . The route was completely different than the party cruise (so we wouldn’t run into them) and each port offered a different activity like hiking, biking, kayaking, and SUPing. Full disclosure, it was a bit more soft adventure than I would’ve liked, but it was still actively exploring instead of wasting the day sleeping off a hangover.

The Price: We spent a week on a yacht (included was 7 nights accommodation, breakfast and lunches) for less than $800. Yes, you read that right. Essentially the same program as The Yacht Week for a fraction of the price. With the Yacht Week Croatia, you can choose how big of a boat you want (there’s a joke there), but you’re still paying for the brand name. They also try to upsell you on their food and drink packages, which start at about $915. Ouch. On Sail Week Croatia, you simply buy your own snacks and alcohol at each marina. Always do your homework if you’re looking to save money on travel.

The Setup: Each boat held eight guests plus the skipper; so half our boat was my friends. The other two were couples on their honeymoon (great humans, but a little weird due to the lack of privacy…we’ll get to that later). There were three other boats in our bevy so about 35 people total. The number of boats varies each week by demand (they operate every week of summer).

  • The thought “life is hard” will run through your head often. You will regularly wonder what you did to deserve this terrible life cruising Baller Bay with the beautiful people.
  • There’s plenty of downtime (which I sometimes need forced up on me). Actually getting to catch up on reading for fun was a whole new world and a necessary reset.
  • You will feel like you have this whole amazing corner of the world to yourself. There are hours of blue expanses where you won’t see another vessel or another human.
  • The water is unlike any shade of blue you’ve ever seen (and you’ll take more pictures of it than you ever dreamed possible).
  • The skipper made the trip. The glue that ties the group together, Zoran was a fantastic human (and it didn’t hurt that he looked like a cross between Paul Walker and Ryan Gosling).
  • We went in early August and had perfect weather. Or at least perfect weather for tanning. There was not a cloud in the sky, and no wind either so not a whole lot of actual sailing happened, It was more motorboat week (bad joke).
  • Our skipper was a world class BSer and liked to mess with us so it was hard to know what was true. Much to our surprise, a few of the stops did in fact have floating markets which would deliver breakfast to your boat, or even better, mojitos from the floating bar.
  • Can we talk about how solid the WIFI was in the middle of nowhere? We were rarely without Snapchat or Instagram.

  • This isn’t the mega yacht you’re picturing having seen Below Deck . There’s no maid or crew. Just one lone (albeit fantastic) skipper who does everything from steering to cleaning and cooking.
  • Quarters are tight, but you will get over the fact that there is no possible way you can sleep in a space that small. As soon as you accept you’ll be on top of each other, you’ll learn to stay out of each other’s way. The good news is, aside from sleeping you’ll rarely spend time in your cabin.
  • The bathrooms are another story. You will quickly get used to hearing everything. You’ll get extraordinarily close to your bunkmates joking about who’s turn it is to take the toilet paper bag out (no flushing of paper allowed). Let’s just say life on the boat doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
  • Showers on the boat are interesting also. You have to ration the water between port stops and not every marina has facilities (you’ll appreciate the ones that do even more).
  • You will come home with random bruises all over your body with no idea how you got them. It’s inevitable.
  • At some of the ports, we had to dock via anchor away from land, which made coordinating dingy runs to use the potty interesting.
  • Omg the bees. They were everywhere!

What Surprised Me:

I wasn’t sure I’d like this type of vacation because I get bored at the beach in about two seconds. After lying out for an hour I’m usually antsy and wondering what we’re going to do next. I typically only spend 2-3 fast-paced days in each country before moving on, which each day packed to the gills with active adventures. This was basically doing the same thing for a week straight – a deep dive into one country.

Thankfully, my worries were completely unfounded. We quickly eased into the routine of 1-3 hours of sailing in the morning, stopping at unique swimming coves, and exploring each new port at night, which broke the day up and kept us on the move. The cities were remarkably different from each other, bustling historic gems like Dubrovnik (do the Game of Thrones tour even if you’ve never seen the show) and Korcula (Marco Polo’s hometown) to happenin’ Split and Hvar and completely remote spots you’d never think to visit (some without a single bar).

Synopsis: What are you waiting for? Go!

I would recommend Sail Week Croatia to anyone in their 20s or 30s looking for a unique vacation (older folks, charter a private boat). It was ridiculously affordable (especially if you use miles for flights) and CNN just said Croatia rules the Rivieras. The country is poised to blow up in the next few years; get there while it’s still under the radar and a hidden gem. I personally can’t wait to get back. We were extremely happy that we did our homework and did not just go with the Yacht Week because it was the first company we saw: we crossed paths with their ships along the route and it looked like we were having an even better experience for a fraction of the cost (while getting our adventure on).

Other Things to Note:

  • Sail Week lets you sign-up as a solo traveler without a single supplement. The Yacht Week has a Facebook page to help connect you to people looking to fill open yacht spots, but doesn’t technically let you sign-up solo.
  • There are plenty of other providers that offer similar sailing experiences in Croatia so do your homework. You can even charter a yacht and captain it yourself if you’re confident in your skills.
  • Spend a day or two before or after your cruise exploring inland Croatia — Plitvice Lakes and Krka are both incredible national parks with waterfalls for days.

Like It? Pin It!

Yacht Week in Croatia is a glamorous way to cruise the Baltic, but is the cost worth it? Is it a party scene the whole time? What's the sailing like? Will I be bored on the boat? Sail boats, water, summer fun, beautiful people. I'll dish on that, life on board, a suggested packing list, themes, and a travel review and pictures of this dream trip for future vacation inspiration. Girls trip, anyone? #yachtweek #sailweek #travel #trip #croatia

Yacht Week BVI: INCREDIBLE!

The only word to describe Yacht Week is: INCREDIBLE! Amazing people, both staff and guests, top class organization, and the most beautiful party sites/venues! Everything was perfect and it’s really hard to describe the experience in words. 10/10 would do again and recommend to anyone who loves to have a great time and meet new people. Thank you Yacht Week for an unforgettable week!

Best Sailing Organization

I've done two trips with Yacht Week and am already looking forward to my next one! I was a lead booker for this trip, which was honestly a lot of work. There's a lot of coordinating and planning that needs to be done beforehand, but once we are on the boat, the host, skipper and event staff have everything covered. It was the perfect break from reality and such a carefree vacation. The boat, meals, events, music, EVERYTHING was incredible! I can not wait for my next trip!

Couldn't recommend Yacht Week more

Couldn't recommend Yacht Week more (so much that I'm writing a review and I never do this). Went to Greece and have thought about it every day since, thank so much to the best crew and the best country.

It was just the absolute best time

It was just the absolute best time. Amazing people, food, location, yacht, skippers and organisation. Everything was epic. I think I'm now addicted.

Great 1st yacht week

Host Ashley & Skipper Hellen were amazing! They made the trip really come together. Most everything was amazing really. Only thing I’d change is better vetting/informing of venues for new routes - the ordering, serving, and charging at the big group dinners was rocky at best, venues didn’t seem at all prepared, which made for confusion & stress for guests.

Turkey (Kebab Week)

As an irish man the mere thought of leaving the emerald isle behind for a week on the high seas had our lad more jittery than a cup of over-caffeinated espresso. However Yacht Week Turkey was by far worth the venture. Everyday got better and better and was by far the best week ever, but sadly as my girl Nelly Furtado says “ all good things come to an end. That is until Croatia 2024!

Really disappointed with TYW

Really disappointed with TYW. First of all, your advertising is not reality. Essentially we are camping on a yacht, your advertisements make it look like a much nicer experience. All of your advertisements include the catamarans, not the monohauls. Some of the parties were really not good, the 70s one was in a tiny bar.. how could everyone possibly fit in there? The communication at the beginning of the trip was not good; your website said to meet at a certain beach club in Athens. But our skipper told us to go somewhere else.. please fix your website to reflect these changes.

Skipper amazing

Our skipper, Louise Landin was amazing and made the experience as good as possible. She was helpful in all areas and catered to everything the group needed. Otherwise the experience was good. However the toilets on the yacht didn’t work well and we were charged from the charter company for toilets not working that was no fault of ours.

The best week of my life

The best week of my life! I went on Yacht Week for the Ultra Festival week in July & it was everything I thought it’d be & more. The festival itself was amazing, if you’re a dance music fan you’ll love it. The music, the stages, the lighting, the Yacht Week VIP area, it was all a vibe! Shout out to Yacht Week & the staff as well, the organisation was on another level. Everything throughout the week was organised for you so you could relax & focus on having a good time. All transfers from the marinas to the festival for example were all organised so you just had to turn up to the pick up point & let the night commence! The whole week as a whole was magical - you’ll be seeing me again Yacht Week!

Disgraceful company purely interested in your money

Yacht week told us 6 weeks before the event (Tahiti) that they would give us a decision as to whether the event is going ahead on a specific date (Monday 06th Sep). On Weds 08th Sep they have said the event MIGHT go ahead and they would give us a decision just over 2 weeks before the event. Further, they said so long as they can sail the event will go ahead despite no island parties happening due to hospitals being overrun with COVID patients. The event has already been postponed once and this company is purely self interested in being able to hang on to people's money. Been on several yacht weeks and would never go again. GIVE US REFUNDS FOR THIS COMPLETE DISASTER!!!!!

Date of experience : 08 September 2021

Hi George, Sorry that the communication has not been as clear as we would have liked. We have been waiting for the Tahiti government to set out some clear guidelines for us and unfortunately they have not managed to give us a longer term plan which is what we were hoping for. We still want to be able to give you an amazing experience and run this event, hence us waiting for guidance. Any guests who feel uncertain or worried about the trip have been given the option to move to different dates with no fees. Plus, if we are unable to run the event we will be offering refunds to all guests. We are really sorry, please get in touch with our team and they can help you.

Now that you have an overview of what The Yacht Week entails, let’s dive into the various routes available and discover the best destinations to explore during this extraordinary adventure.

How to Choose the Best Route

With so many incredible routes to choose from, selecting the best option for your Yacht Week adventure might seem overwhelming. However, by considering a few key factors, you can make an informed decision that aligns with your preferences and desires.

Firstly, think about the type of experience you’re seeking. Are you looking for a laid-back vacation, with plenty of opportunities to relax on pristine beaches and explore charming local towns? Or, do you prefer a more energetic and vibrant atmosphere, with buzzing nightlife and lively parties? Each route offers a unique blend of tranquility and excitement, so identifying your preferred ambiance is the first step in selecting the right route.

Secondly, take into account the time of year and weather conditions. Different routes have different optimal sailing seasons, and understanding the climate patterns can greatly enhance your Yacht Week experience. For instance, if you prefer warm weather and calm seas, the Mediterranean in the summer months may be the ideal choice. Alternatively, if you want to escape the winter blues, the Caribbean offers a tropical paradise during the colder months.

Another critical consideration is the destinations and attractions along each route. Do you have a particular fascination with ancient ruins and historical sites? Or, are you more intrigued by picturesque islands and hidden coves? Researching the unique landmarks and activities available on each route will help you narrow down your options and choose the one that aligns with your interests.

It’s also worth considering the accessibility and logistics of each route. Some routes may require specific visas or travel arrangements, while others may be more accessible from your home country. Keeping these practicalities in mind can help streamline your decision-making process and ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.

Lastly, seek inspiration and recommendations from others who have embarked on The Yacht Week before. Online forums, travel blogs, and social media platforms are filled with stories and insights from fellow adventurers. Their firsthand experiences and advice can provide invaluable guidance, helping you make an informed choice.

By carefully considering the atmosphere, weather, attractions, logistics, and recommendations, you can confidently select the route that suits your preferences and creates a truly unforgettable Yacht Week experience. So, let’s delve into the various routes on offer and explore the remarkable destinations that await your discovery.

The unspoken rules about how to behave on a superyacht

  • The superyachting world is very small, with only 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea.
  • That insularity has bred a specific etiquette, which is often hard for outsiders to know about.
  • These are the de facto rules of the most expensive billionaire toys, superyachts .

Insider Today

For the owners of superyachts , privacy is often the most valuable thing money can buy. It's one reason centimillionaires and billionaires pay eight or nine figures for a palace at sea, far from the prying eyes of land dwellers.

Even the most gossipy crew members should stay tight-lipped about the name of a former owner or charter guest, and many brokers shy away from answering benign questions.

That means that, aside from basic safety guidelines, most of the rules of superyachting are unwritten. The very few who need to know them — there are only about 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea, according to SuperYacht Times — already know them.

But if you do happen to be a lucky guest at a party on a billionaire's $500 million ship or find yourself included in a $1 million-a-week vacation, there are a few things you need to know.

After four days of touring superyachts that sell for as much as $75 million and chatting with the people who buy, sell, and work on them at the Palm Beach International Boat Show , Business Insider gleaned a few key edicts. Given the discreet nature of the industry, almost all the people we spoke with requested anonymity to protect their working relationships, but here's what they had to say.

Take off your shoes

While it's a basic rule for anyone in boating, it may come as a surprise to an outsider that no matter how rich you are or how expensive your heels are, in the vast majority of cases, you can't wear shoes on board.

It's partly for safety — you don't want anyone slipping on a wet deck — but partly to keep the yacht clean. So expect to see barefoot billionaires, and if you forgot to get a pedicure, bring a set of special boat shoes.

Don't make any assumptions about money — but know the signs

In the superyacht world, it's safe to assume almost everyone you meet is very, very rich, and many brokers and builders say you can't judge a book by its cover when it comes to prospective clients.

"It has nothing to do with how they're dressed," one broker told BI. "It's the biggest mistake you can make because a complete slobby-looking guy or couple could be a multibillionaire."

There are, however, a few clues. Watches are one; new footwear is another.

"Rich people always have new shoes," a superyacht expert said. But because of the shoe rule mentioned above, this tip probably applies only when they're on land.

Book your massage early

Wellness areas, including spa rooms with a massage bed or two and a professional-grade facial machine, are becoming must-haves on superyachts . Most have a customized spa menu and a crew member who doubles as a trained masseuse or beautician — and they're usually in high demand.

One captain said he'd implemented a booking system to ensure people weren't fighting for the same spots. A broker said sometimes masseuses would be so busy they wouldn't leave the small spa cabin for hours on end.

Related stories

So if you want to make the most of your relaxing time on board, reserve your pampering slot as soon as you get your welcome cocktail.

Pirates are more real than you'd think, and many superyachts have hidden safe rooms

While you might dress up as a fake pirate for an onboard theme party, there are very real ones — and other dangers — on the high seas.

In certain areas, including parts of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, pirates are a cause of concern . In the Red Sea, owners are concerned about the Houthis .

Superyachts can come equipped with sonic weaponry, lockdown systems, and anti-drone protection. Builders are even designing safe rooms — which are apparently just as plush as the rest of the ship.

The longer the boat, the closer to $1 billion

While you can't judge a buyer based on appearances, you can judge them on the length of their boat.

One rule of thumb: If someone has a brand-new 50-meter vessel, chances are they have $1 billion to their name. If it's over 100 meters, expect the owner to have at least $2 billion. And for a boat bigger than that — like Jeff Bezos' 127-meter megayacht Koru — it takes many, many billions.

Money can't buy you everything

The world's biggest, most expensive yachts are custom-built by shipyards that produce only a handful of boats a year.

But no matter how many tens of millions of dollars clients are spending, there are things to which builders will refuse to say yes.

"In the end, the boat has our name," an executive from one of the world's biggest shipyards told BI.

They recalled a client who requested a yellow hull to match his Lamborghini . The shipyard declined, steering the client in another direction.

"If I don't like it, I don't build it. I finalize two or three contracts a year," another builder said. "If somebody can say your vessel is ugly, my reputation is bad."

Yacht crews are trained to make the impossible possible. A guest requests fresh caviar flown into the middle of the Caribbean? No problem. Fresh flowers every day while at sea? It'll cost you, but it can be done.

But they can't time travel, and captains and crew members say the thing that causes the most friction is when a client or owner wants to go from point A to point B — right now.

"The hardest request is when they want the boat in a place — yesterday," one captain said.

The best person to know? A friend with a superyacht

Superyachts are expensive to build and expensive to maintain . According to the industry standard, owning a superyacht will cost 10% of its new-build price annually. For a $100 million yacht, that's at least $10 million yearly going to crew, regular maintenance, insurance, fuel, and dockage.

Chartering, too, is costly . Beyond the list price, which can be hundreds of thousands a week, guests must pay for provisions, which are pegged at 35% of the charter fee, and are expected to tip between 10% and 20%.

So the most important unspoken rule of superyachting is actually that the only thing better than owning a superyacht is knowing someone else who does — and invites you along, of course.

Great 1st yacht week. Host Ashley & Skipper Hellen were amazing! They made the trip really come together. Most everything was amazing really.
