A very nice Sweden Yachts 42 from 2004. Anyone who knows us will be aware that we have a long-standing affinity with Sweden Yachts. When they were in production, we were their preferred broker, and that affection for the brand continues. Ahead of their time, both the Sweden 42 and 45 displayed a wonderful blend of style, performance, and outstanding build quality. FREYA is a particularly good example; we know her very well, having sold her to the current and previous owners. The yacht was also subject to an extensive nut and bolt refit here at Berthon Boat Company. In the last year, to ease the convenience of handling, the current owner fitted a new Selden mast to change to in-mast reefing, and this was, of course, fitted with a brand-new mainsail by Sanders Sails. FREYA is both heavily updated and in lovely overall condition, representing a great opportunity to secure a really good example of these much sought-after performance cruising yachts.

Owner’s Comments

After selling my Hallberg-Rassy 48 in 2020, I desired to return to local coastal sailing on a quality-built yacht. It didn’t take long to discover that FREYA was the perfect choice. Two essential elements guided my decision. The first was the extensive refit accomplished by previous owners (see below and elsewhere), effectively making her like a new yacht. The second was the pure quality of the yacht in terms of performance and build associated with the Sweden Yacht brand. I was not disappointed. She is a lovely yacht that sails beautifully and is a delight to spend time on. Experienced yachties regularly and deservedly compliment her.

The transition in 2023 to an in-mast mainsail, together with her existing self-tacking jib, makes sailing incredibly easy without any loss in performance. In fact, with greater reefing flexibility, her sailing performance, in my view, has significantly improved. She never feels over-reefed or under-reefed. FREYA comes with a gennaker and a relatively new and little-used Code Zero, providing a wide range of options to enhance your sailing experience.

Her accommodation below is of the highest standard, right down to her recent upholstery refit and high-quality mattresses.

I genuinely struggled with my decision to sell FREYA; however, in my later years, I wish to return to ocean sailing for a few more years, hence onto a larger live-aboard bluewater yacht again.
