Inside the RH3 yacht

Sensory indulgence

Once upon a time luxury’s definition was limited to opulent and deliberately impractical design. Minimalist champions like Vincent Van Duysen have sought to prove that luxury, simplicity and functionality are not mutually exclusive concepts – a philosophy RH3’s owner clearly shared, having employed Van Duysen to design all of his prior homes before commissioning his first boat project, RH3.

This luxury yacht is the opposite of opulent; it is a chic, uncluttered oasis of calm. RH3’s guests are made to feel instantly at home by the broad selection of materials used in the design, with textiles including brushed oak, honed Carrara marble, Italian leather, cashmere, cotton rope and handmade vegetal rugs. Many of the woods and tones mirror those in the owner’s residences, making it truly a home away from home.

A mixture of understated but intriguing fabrics invites guests to interact with RH3 on a deeper, more sensory level. The idea is that as more curious explorers charter out this homely yacht, the materials will hold more and more memories.

Timeless functionality

Vincent Van Duysen is known for creating spaces that transcend above the latest trends, and the RH3 yacht is no exception. Designed in tens of shades of neutral, using bleached and brushed European oak for the walls and ceilings in the saloons and white lacquered panelling in RH3’s cabins, she is truly timeless.

Part of this comes from the clever juxtaposition of old and new. Vincent Van Duysen’s interior design follows certain details of the original naval architecture, most strikingly applying a reinterpretation of the gentle, rounded surfaces. All interior hardware and lighting fixtures are custom-built to blend classic and contemporary styling, ensuring she will feel homely for years to come.

She is beautiful without compromising on functionality. As Duysen said: “The new design creates comfortable and welcoming interiors, perfect for shelter for all expeditions and adventures at sea. Spaces to be lived in and used in all seasons, in all locations worldwide.” A perfect example of this is the spacious sofas in the living room – elegant yet waterproof, so that you can lie on it fresh from a dip in the ocean.

The RH3 yacht owner worked closely with Duysen to rearrange the interior layout to make it more liveable for him and his family. The two VIP cabins aft of the upper deck were replaced with a relaxed lounge and gym, adding a double on that level, while the indoor dining table on the main deck is transformed into a dinette, making space for a bunked kids’ cabin. All this means that RH3 is now a practical retreat for kids and adults alike.

Inspiring exploration

The neutral shades may be relaxing, but other features of RH3 shout: ‘Let’s go!’ From the stylish sky lounge fitness area to the boat deck with its custom tenders, kayaks and paddleboards, this yacht is about so much more than lazing about with a book.

This infectiously active atmosphere is intentional, designed to fit the owner’s busy lifestyle. Vincent Van Duysen even worked in a bespoke bike storage space to keep mountain bikes at exactly the right temperature, meaning guests can be ready for a cycle at any time of day.

The RH3 yacht design by Vincent Van Duysen is all about creating a luxurious and functional base from which guests can explore the globe. As an indulgent, highly-capable explorer vessel with timeless style, we think it’s safe to say it is a success.

RH3 Expedition Yacht

An old expedition yacht underwent an extensive rebuilding process to create a floating ‘home away from home’. Working in close collaboration with the yacht’s owner, Vincent Van Duysen Architects were responsible for the general concept and mood, spanning from the complete interior renovation to partnership with Vripack engineers and designers on the exterior modifications.

The concept was to create a new expedition yacht with an ultimate level of comfort and luxury while also using a careful selection of natural and tactile materials to create a serene and timeless atmosphere, as one can also find in the owner’s residence on land. The interior creates a special environment in which occupants are encouraged to explore all their senses and interact with the vessel’s unique character. The use of fine but understated natural materials such as brushed oak, honed Carrara marble, Italian leather, cashmere, cotton rope and handmade vegetal rugs invites guests to feel, touch and fully inhabit all interior spaces and lounges. An example of this are the walls made out of rounded carved wooden panels, referring to the typical naval rope stacks. At the same time, the yacht’s interiors suggest a sharp and sportive mood, inviting guests not only to relax but to engage in multiple activities, from the highly customized fitness lounge to the outdoor observation gym or the upper deck with its bespoke tenders, kayaks and paddleboards. The design integrates many rounded and gentle surfaces, in a contemporary way, from the unique skylounge oak panelling to the stone details of the bathroom. All the interior hardware and lighting fixtures followed this aesthetic, to perfectly blend old and new. The lighting design, created by PSLab, incorporated custom lighting fixtures, blending in with the overall interior design. The loose furniture features custom-designed items and exterior furniture was customized by Paola Lenti in Italy for RH3, featuring the new Portofino collection designed by Vincent Van Duysen (see page 159). The key feature of this special project was the complete and immersive design approach, from the larger-scale interventions to the smallest details, creating a new direction for yacht interiors and at the same time defining the ideal feeling of a floating ‘home’: the perfect shelter equipped for all expeditions and adventures at sea. Newly Relaunched Expedition Yacht RH3 Returns to Charter Market

The 39m/127ft luxury yacht RH3 , originally delivered in 2003 by RMK Marine, is fresh from an extensive rebuild by Rybovich and will be available to charter this winter in the Caribbean .  

An accomplished go-anywhere explorer, RH3 was designed for off-the-beaten-track adventures and is now in immaculate condition following her recent transformation at the Florida refit yard.

Escape to the Caribbean for some winter sun over the upcoming months and be one of the first to charter this new look superyacht, which has successfully circumnavigated the globe on numerous occasions aided by her impressive range of 3,000 nautical miles.     

As well as engineering and technology upgrades, she also boasts re-configured layouts on her main and upper decks, and a new, calm and contemporary interior with urban undertones styled by Belgian designer Vincent Van Duysen.

Luxurious materials such as brushed oak, Carrara marble, Italian leather and cashmere are used throughout alongside custom-made furniture from Duysen’s design house and iconic pieces by Christian Liaigre.

A full-beam master suite forms the perfect retreat after spending a busy day on the water and is equipped with a stylish office with magnificent ocean views. The accommodation setup is completed by two double cabins and two twin cabins.

Luxe deck areas on superyacht RH3, meanwhile, present no-end of opportunities for lounging, dining and socialising on your yacht charter , while soaking up the sea air and tropical island-chains of the Caribbean.

There is also an alfresco workout area with TRX station alongside a dedicated spin bike room, ensuring charter guests have no problem keeping up their exercise routines while at sea.   

Plus, the expedition yacht also comes with a vast range of water toys, including customised tenders, paddleboards, kayaks, Sea-bobs, and an inflatable trampoline and waterslide. Indeed, there are multiple ways in which guests can explore the glittering waters of the region.

'RH3' explorer: the first of a kind

Vripack helped pioneer the trend for pocket explorers with 'private lives', now refitted under new ownership as 39m 'rh3'….

RH3  was originally built as 37m Private Lives in 2003 by RMK in Istanbul, along with her sister ship Jasmine . With exterior and interior design by Vripack, the compact but rugged explorer yacht was highly unusual – even controversial – at the time as her exterior styling was based on working vessels. With her two military-spec RIB tenders housed on the bridge deck for easy launch and retrieval, proof of the explorer’s ocean-going vocation is the fact that she has crossed the Atlantic 16 times on her own keel.

The no-nonsense lines of the two sister ships (along with the Naumachos 82, which later developed into the Darwin series designed by Sergio Cutolo for Cantieri delle Marche) have since become more commonplace and spawned the trend for crossover designs.

“ Private Lives was also notable for her smart interior layout,” says Vripack co-director Bart Bouwhuis (pictured). “Nearly all yachts at the time – and still today – had the guest accommodation on the lower deck. But our founder Dick Boon wanted to do things differently, so he brought the guest cabins up onto the upper deck below the wheelhouse from where guest could directly access the exterior deck. This configuration proved extremely popular among charter guests.”

“The main objectives of the clients were to create a more modern interior to their own liking, increase the functionality of the exterior areas on all decks, and refresh the majority of the on board’s systems that in some cases had reached the end of their lifespan,” says Vripack designer Joost Mertens, who project managed the refit.

The main changes to the exterior involved converting the original fishing cockpit in the transom into an enclosed storage locker, increasing the size of the swim platform, elongating both superstructure levels, introducing an outdoor gym on the fly bridge deck, and creating a lounge area in front of the wheelhouse.

For Vripack, these modifications resulted in two main challenges. The first was how much additional weight could be introduced before exceeding the maximum allowable draft. The other was to minimise the increase to the vertical centre of gravity to ensure the stability of the vessel. By introducing additional buoyancy in the transom and using composite materials for part of the modifications, they were able to accommodate most of the owners' wishes without exceeding the scantling draft or compromising stability.

The interior upgrade consisted of refurbishing almost all the owner and guest areas and repainting the crew quarters. Vripack supported Vincent van Duysen Architects with knowledge concerning layout, modifications to construction and the marine systems on board.

Throughout the refit, the modifications were constantly monitored to ensure that budgets were not exceeded and the vessel could be completed on the target weight. In case the yacht had not been built exactly according to the original drawings and to ensure the transom modification and extension of the exterior decks proved an exact fit, it was decided to make a 3D scan of the aft section and the first tier of the superstructure.

“We’ve seen an increase in refit works and we’re currently working on five projects of between 80 feet and 65 metres,” concludes Bouwhuis. “In most cases, we designed the original yacht and it makes sense for owners to return to the same architect when the yacht is sold, or when they decide to refresh their yachts.”

The Vripack director also revealed that the studio is working on a 75m-plus project that is "right up our street." Watch this space for further details...

RH THREE is a versatile no-nonsense-go-anywhere explorer vessel without compromises. RH THREE was designed by Vripack and refined by American design experimenters RH, to take guests to the furthest corners of the world. Originally launched in 2003 by ' RMK Marine ' the expedition yacht had an extensive rebuild at the American ' Rybovich ' shipyard and re-designed with a new philosophy that will no doubt appeal to your tastes. 

 RH THREE: TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES

You'd be surprised but the owner of RH THREE had to wait more than a decade after falling in love with her before he could become her proud owner. And the owner was, by this point, ready to discover the world with his partner and two young kids, and experience the sort adventures he’d heard others talk about. His RH THREE, having already crossed the Atlantic Ocean no less than sixteen times, was certainly fit for purpose.   The owner wanted his boat to arouse the same emotions as their home, and what better way to achieve this than to pair the famed Belgian architect - Vincent Van Duysen , that designed his house with the ' Vripack ' studio, that designed the yacht. Their vision formed the basis for the grand reconstruction and refit of 2016, and 5 years later (in 2021) the brutal Explorer "put on the tuxedo" by ' RH ' in the kind of a new glamorous look in a neutral gray-and-champagne color scheme.

During her latest refit, the RH yacht changed the number "3" in her name to the letter spelling "Three," linking herself to an experimental initiative by the '  RH  ' (formerly known as Restoration Hardware) that hides 2 Gulfstream private jets in "phantom gray" combo palette under the names RH One and RH Two, not to mention high-profile projects of galleries, restaurants and bars in New York City and even guesthouse in Manhattan. 

NEW INTERIOR

With a new design which shows the author's traditional handwriting and the tendencies of American design innovators RH, the yacht has acquired a modern, spacious and non-trivial layout, where calm and warm tones accentuated by directional light create a sense of minimalist sophistication and understated luxury. The main salon's open layout and dining area transform them into a lounge aft and a dining room forward. Panoramic windows surrounding the salon along with the sliding doors to the stern make the interior space infinitely welcoming and airy. Van Duysen has managed to retain much of the original woodwork, complementing it with brushed European oak in honey tones with cream lacquered panels. Bathrooms are finished in Carrara marble and brushed stainless steel, while beds, chairs and sofas are upholstered in genuine Italian leather, cotton burlap and Belgian linen. The result is the most cozy and at the same time luxurious atmosphere in the author's timeless design. 

ONBOARD COMFORT & ENTERTAINMENT

RH THREE benefits from some excellent features to improve your charter, particularly Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, if you wish, a gym with all the latest equipment to maintain your fitness routine. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.  

PERFORMANCE & RANGE

RH THREE is built with a steel hull and aluminium / grp superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 11 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 13 knots with a range of up to 7,000 nautical miles from her 62,744 litre fuel tanks. An advanced stabilisation system on board by ‘Naiad' reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

WATER ACTIVITIES

RH THREE has aboard a plentiful range of water toys and accessories ready to entertain you and your guests whilst on charter. Principle among these are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Also there are towable toys offering fun and adventure. If you enjoy diving you’ll appreciate the diving equipment and the PADI certified professionals on board. If that isn’t enough RH3 also features a seabob, wakeboards, kayaks, inflatable water toys and paddleboards. When it comes to Tenders, RH3 has you covered — with two tenders, including a 15.24m/164’1″ RIB.

RH THREE mission is geared entirely toward the seamless interplay of mind, body, and nature: being active, getting up early, working out, going for a swim then hiking or biking. RH3 doesn’t need to go far to make you feel a million miles away; even in the most well-cruised waters she offers peace, space and a retreat away from it all, with scandi-chic interiors that have all the minimalist grace of a hip Nordic hotel. An extended swim platform is perfect for early morning dips, while an excursion in her 15m expedition chase boat RH4 will allow you to discover far flung beaches and hidden reefs. But the best views are always from her observation deck, which will have a sleek new lounge area for winter 2022. The shaded main deck aft offers a space for informal dining, with soft seating that surrounds one side of an oak dining table. Above on the upper deck aft, a larger space provides an additional dining table as well as a fixed sunpad area. Sunlovers also have the choice of an additional lounging area forward of the bridge. RH3’s extended aft swim platform can also be set up with sun loungers if required. RH3 carries a selection of towables, inflatables and water toys on board. Her additional two 6.5m RIBs and her waverunners are stored on the bridge deck for easy access to the water.

Following a great success of three Vripack designed explorer motoryachts, the well known Turkish builder RMK Marine now presents the new 33m Vripack 110 superyacht as another result of an excellent collaboration with Vripack. Based on recent developments for a customer requirement, motor yacht Vripack 110 has been drawn up with two different profiles to show styling themes available as well as providing flexibility with the internal layout.

Both profiles provide a twin guest cabin, a double cabin and a VIP cabin all en-suite as well as the Master cabin, allowing for 8 guests at one time to be accommodated. There is also accommodation for 6 crew. There are 2 yacht tenders shown on board served by a central single crane with additional space for more toys if required.

Vripack designed explorer yachts have a reputation for providing a great deal of volume for the size of yacht and coupled with the expertise and facilities provided by RMK Marine the Vripack 110 superyacht really represents excellent value for money.

The previous Vripack designed yachts built at RMK Marine are superyacht Caressa K , charter yacht Jasmin and charter yacht Private Lives all of which have completed many nautical miles since their launch. Two of these have won awards for their design and build quality and since that time RMK Marine has gained a reputation of build quality excellence with several more recent awards for motor yacht Karia and superyacht Nazenin V .

Steve kozloff’s deep sea dreamer.

Designer Steve Kozloff’s Deep Sea Dreamer is a concept submarine that doubles as a yacht , all entirely made of steel. The water vehicle comes with two decks. The lower part features an observation bubble with expansive and panoramic viewing windows, so passengers can watch the species swim and the marine life go about their daily pace.

Going up, the bridge deck can remain on the surface of the sea and invite passengers to unwind and take in air out in the open. Plush recliners and a well-equipped wet bar for refreshments are at their disposal, and the strategically located helm station lets them enjoy scenic views when they want to take a break from the underwater landscape.

While the upper bridge deck makes way for an open-air respite, it is the lower main deck of Steve Kozloff’s Deep Water Dreamer that may appeal to both submarine and yacht fans. As soon as the passengers step inside, the observation salon, comprising four plush recliners positioned right in front of the observation bubble, greets them.

These seats are planted on a glass floor that allows the passengers to watch marine life glide below their feet too. When it’s time for a meal, there’s a dining room just behind the salon, equipped with a galley that features equipment and utensils that hope to awaken the passengers’ inner chefs.

The master suite with a private bathroom and a spacious walk-in closet can accommodate both naps and full sleeps, while a dedicated guest cabin with its own bathroom offers other passengers their own space inside the Deep Sea Dreamer submarine and yacht.

Not to worry when it comes to washing and drying clothes since the submarine slash yacht has a laundry facility. There’s even a watertight elevator and a separate watertight ladder tube that can travel between decks for easy movement and transfer from one place to another.

Electric water vehicle that can remain stationary

For specs buffs, the Deep Sea Dreamer is built for voyages both under and over water. During these long voyages, it can cruise just below the surface through its fixed dorsal snorkel or dive deep into the sea as a full submarine. Steve Kozloff’s submarine-yacht is also electric, and the water vehicle is said to be able to travel up to 100 miles on silent, electric power. It can also remain stationary on the ocean floor for up to seven days, thanks to the onboard batteries.

The Deep Sea Dreamer submarine and yacht can also be fitted with a simple anchor drop or submerged mooring. With its snorkel mast traversing the surface of the sea, the Deep Sea Dreamer can remain planted on the seabed even during tumultuous conditions. When Steve Kozloff designed the submarine, he thought of his wife, Terry, and the many underwater adventures they could share together. He dreamed of them roaming the deep sea together, hence the name. Today, that dream is shared with those who want to hop and voyage in Deep Sea Dreamer.

€2.39M price cut on expedition yacht RH3

The 38.7 metre expedition yacht RH3 , listed for sale by Y.CO , has had a currency switch from dollars to euros meaning a price drop of €2,390,000.

Designed by Vripack and delivered by RMK Marine in 2003, RH3 is intended for extended cruising and has a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 11 knots from twin 671hp Caterpillar diesel engines. She underwent an extensive rebuild in 2016, completed by the Rybovich yard in Florida under the direction of Vripack. The rebuild resulted in newly configured main and upper decks, a new mast, extended swim platform and state-of-the-art engineering and technology throughout this yacht for sale .

Designer Vincent Van Duysen created a new interior employing brushed oak, Carrara marble and fine Italian leathers to design luxurious accommodation for 10 guests in five cabins consisting of a full beam master suite on the main deck, three doubles on the upper deck and a twin on the main deck. All cabins have entertainment centres, television screens and en suite bathroom facilities.

On the main deck, the saloon and dining areas are open plan, with the lounge area aft and the dining room forward. On the upper deck, she offers a partial Bimini top to shade an al fresco dining table and there are also ample sun pads and loungers for guests wanting to relax in the sun.

Lying in the South of France, RH3 is now asking €12,750,000.
