The Balearics islands yacht charters

Strategically positioned on ancient trading routs between  Europe and Africa, these islands got their fair share of invaders:  Greeks, Romans, Turks, etc. Christian kings, Arab rulers and Jewish  merchants have all left their mark there. With a yacht charter in  Mallorca you can easily explore its diverse architectural heritage, in  colorful fiestas, ceremonies and cuisine.

Like mainland of Spain, the Balearics Islands have been inhabited  since pre-historic times. So many invaders laid claim to them at various  points in history. Both Catalan and Castilian Spanish are spoken in the  Balearics Islands, which has been an autonomous region since 1983.

One of the Balearic Islands yacht charter bases is located in  Mallorca, a beautiful mountainous island, with rolling hills, sandy  beaches and stalagmite caves. It's landscape, culture and entertainment  offers a wide range of experiences during your sailing vacation. And it  is also by far the most culturally rich.

The great Polish composer Frederic Chopin stayed at the monastery of  Valldemossa with his lover Aurora Dupin, better known as the French  novelist George Sand, in the winter of 1838, where he composed his 24  preludes. The English poet Robert Graves hosted Pablo Picasso and actors  Alec Guiness and Peter Ustinov at his house. The painter and sculptor  Joan Miro also found his home here. His works are on display in the  Fundacio Pilar i Joan Miro, on the outskirts of Palma.

Yacht charter Mallorca is incredibly diverse in its landscape,  architecture, culture or just entertainment. There is so much to enjoy  in Palma during a sailing vacation: from stunning nature reserves and  charming fishing villages to picturesque ruins and impressive country  estates. With bareboat or skippered charter you'll get whatever you want  here: wonderful beaches and vibrant nightlife with dancing and music,  or rural retreats with sedate and peaceful atmosphere.

Mallorca sailing conditions

The climate is mild, typically Mediterranean, with dry and sunny  summer. During July and August, average temperature raises to 75 – 85 F  with stable light winds from 5 to 15 knots. The winds are predominantly  southeast on the west part of the island and northwest on the eat part.  July marks the beginning of the peak sailing season, which will last  till the end of September. Cold winters are very rare in this area, with  average temperature around 60 F, Palma boat rentals are available the  year round. Nights are cold, but days are mostly sunny with partial  clouds. The highest rainfall is usually between October and December.  All in all, the weather is very pleasant and mild all year around.

Winter navigation

The average temperature in December-January in navigation area  near Balearic Islands is mild. The average max temperature is 18 C and  the minimum temperature 13 C. But it’s quite frequent to have a few days  with 20 C or above.

It’s necessary to be equipped with warm clothes and waterproof  jackets, but don’t be afraid it is just a precaution and if sunny and on  land, you will have chance to wear T-shirt.

All boats are supplied with bed linen and warm blankets; additional  heaters are also available to make the main saloon and cabins warm and  toasty in almost any conditions.

Nevertheless you should keep in mind that it is better to bring all  staff in soft bags or backpacks because space on the boat is limited.  Take the most comfortable clothes (wool socks, wool sweater, waterproof  jackets, water resistant shoes, wool hats), sunglasses, and protective  sun cream, personal medicines, toilette accessories and gloves.

Places of interest

The island's north-west coast is especially scenic, with its  terraced cliff sides and hidden coves. Once you venture away from  crowds, this area will give you a pleasant sense of isolation. It's  craggy coast is dotted with watch towers, ancient monasteries and  churches and picturesque idyllic villages.

Sun Marroig, estate of 18th century, has been converted into a museum with a great collection of pottery and paintings.

Mirador del Ses Animes, the former defense tower, standing on a steep rock, is visible from far away.

Port d'Andratx, used to be a small fishing port, now harbors  expensive yachts for the rich and famous. The cute town, with its white  shuttered houses and cobbled streets, lies in a valley, while the old  watch towers are formidably standing on the hill above it.

Another popular attraction is the pearl factory at nearby Manacor.

On the island's east coast, near the fishing port of Porto Cristo,  are the Caves of Drach, which contain one of the world's largest  underground lakes.

Mallorca's Caves

Caves in Mallorca are formed out of limestone rocks. Some are the  size of a cathedral with dripstones that form fantastic forms and are  illuminated for better impression. Once they provided shelter for early  settlers or hiding places for pirates. Although Mallorca has about 200  caves, only a few of them are open to public. And it's worth taking a  tour! There is a number of caves with underground lakes. They have great  acoustics and concerts can be performed by the musicians seated in  boats.

Beaches of Mallorca

Mallorca has about 80 beaches. The best are around Badia de Palma.  Some of the beaches include restaurants, fun parks, water sports and  beachside bars. But it is still possible to find secluded beaches:  however they may have quite a few facilities and could be difficult to  reach.

Palma de Mallorca

Palma over the years has transformed itself from a provincial  town into a metropolis. With a quarter of a million residents, it is  Mallorca's main city and the capital of Baleares province. It captivates  you by the evident signs of its rich history: dominant cathedrals,  grand public buildings, exquisite private mansions.

On a hill overlooking the port there is Bellver Castle, a fine  example of the 14th century military architecture. Caiman Forum Palma,  built in 1902, the most impressive 20th century building, now serves as a  cultural center. Palau Reial de I'Almudaina, the former royal residence  built in 1309, is now turned into a museum. And here is the Gothic  Cathedral, built of golden sandstone, is one of the most breathtaking  buildings in Spain. Palma Cathedral is one of the best-sited cathedrals  anywhere - it is positioned high on the sea wall towering over the  harbor. The construction began in 1230 and finished in 1601. At the  beginning of the century Antonio Gaudi remodeled most of its interior.

Among other structures of interest are Arab Baths of the 10th  century, Church of San Francisco of the 13th century and The Forn Teatro  (Theater Bakery), well-known for its impressive facade and it's  delicious pastries.

Spanish cuisine is as varied as the country itself. Good  quality local cuisine is always available. Most of the Balearic dishes  are Catalan in origin: ensaimadas  - spiral pastries dusted with icing  sugar or sobrasadas - spicy pork pates.

But the influence of each occupying force over the centuries - Arabs,  French or British – also has left its mark on the local cuisine, as  well. Sobrasada - a sausage-meat spread. Embutits – cured meats.  Surrounded by water, there is no wonder that seafood (especially lobster  and cray fish) predominates here. Caldereta de llagosta (lobster stue),  once a simple fishermen's dish is now a delicacy. The classic Mallorcan  dish is Pa Amb Oli, a slice of toasted bread rubbed with garlic and  drizzled with local olive oil. Tapas are popular bite-sized snacks,  often served hot with chilled wine or beer.

Porto Cristo

Is a small town located on the eastern part of Mallorca. It was  not affected by mass tourism and preserved most of its charm and lovely  white sand beaches. Here you will find no trendy bars or busy  nightclubs but tranquil atmosphere where you can lie on the beach and  drink a cold beer without being disturbed.

The must-see attraction are two cave complexes called “Coves del  Drach and Coves dels Hams” that offer and incredible experience of  Mallorca’s natural beauty

Cala Figuera

More than in any other part of Mallorca, Cala Figueres retains the  atmosphere of an authentic fishing port. Here you will see white washed  houses on the water’s edge and fishermen fixing their nets. It’s a good  idea to arrive early and buy some catch of the day.

Cala Santanyi

Cala Santanyi located on the south-eastern part of Mallorca, is a  popular beach and diving area. Local diving school offers great diving  courses so or you can just bask in the crystal-clear water. There are  several resort style hotels in the area

This place is famous for many hidden calla’s and coves in the  area. For the food lovers, Cala D’Or offers a number of diverse  restaurants and busy bars.

Cala Ratjada

Sailing east of Mallorca you will find this small fishing  village known for its fine white sand beaches, pristine clear water and  turquoise sea. If you’re looking for a slightly more serene experience  take a short walk away from the beach to the lighthouse at Punta de  Capdepera which offers fantastic view over to Menorca.

For the foodies, take a lunch trip to Es Coll d’Os which has a great  atmosphere and prides itself on home grown food. For a traditional meal,  Reco D’es Moll servers the finest Tapas in the area.

Sailing to the north tip of Mallorca you will find Pollenca, a  well sheltered anchorage, but there is also a marina if you’re looking  for some creature comforts. You should also check to see if there are  any festivals or fairs happening whilst you’re visiting as they are  popular and frequent here.

Mao-Mahon is the capital city of Menorca. It also known as the  second deepest natural harbor in the world; 5km long and 900 meters  wide. Sailing to Mahón harbor you will see La Mola Fortress, former  military prison during the Franco dictatorship and the Saint Felip  Castle. These sites certainly make entrance to the harbor quite an  experience. Once you are in Mahon you can choose either to take a  mooring, anchor or shelter in the harbor.

Fornells is a traditional fisherman's town on the north coast  of Menorca. Here you will find large well protected harbor, surrounded  by picturesque white washed buildings with local restaurants and bars.

Sailing to Fornells you see how this place retained its charm by fending off major development.

Near Fornells bay you will notice couple of pretty coves and three  small islands home to the indigenous blue green lizard 'S'argantana  Balear'. These coves and islands can only be reached by boat.

Must try local cuisine. Dinner in Fornells is a real feast for fish  lovers. This place offers number of fantastic fish restaurants which  Fornells has become renowned for.

This is a former capital of Menorca, a small charming town,  with old cobbled streets and reminiscent of a bygone era. Entering the  harbor, you will be amazed by stunning beauty of this town. Take a  mooring in front of the pier that is lined with bars and restaurants, so  you can literally hop off your yacht straight into a bar; and then roll  back out again.

The old town Cuitadella it's definitely worth visiting. You will  reach it by heading up some cobbled stairs where you will find many  remains of what the town used to be like, including the still standing  Cathedral of Menorca in the old town.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Superyacht Destination Guide: Mallorca

The island of Mallorca (or Majorca) has long been a favourite Mediterranean destination with holidaymakers and yachties alike. It is well equipped to deal with the demanding needs of shore-side tourists as well as increasing numbers of visiting superyachts.

With Palma de Mallorca recognised as a European yachting hub, with ample marine infrastructure, stunning scenery and a thriving city culture, Yachting Pages spoke to Juan Segui, manager at  Lantimar Yachting  to create a superyacht destination guide for those visiting Mallorca.

When to visit.

The Mediterranean yachting season starts here in Palma de Mallorca in April/May. It remains active until the end of the season, which is typically marked by the close of the Monaco Yacht Show in late September/early October.

During this time, Palma’s marina network will be indefinitely full of impressive yachts, both large and small, and many  yacht crew hopefuls looking for work . The streets, bars and restaurants will also be teeming with tourists and fellow crew on downtime in their favourite  crew hangouts .

Many superyachts are based here in Mallorca all year around because of the warm Mediterranean climate. However, the peak time for visiting superyachts and charter guests is during the European summertime. The shoulder season in Mallorca is typically used for yard periods and crewing up.

Mallorca’s Mediterranean climate makes year-round cruising possible. It is largely settled in the summer months - sunny, hot and dry, but with the chance of some unpredictable winds. The winter is mild, but does see some unsettled, cloudy weather and winds.

The average temperature varies across the island, but average summer temperatures are around 26°C (79°F) in Palma, with temperatures as high as 41°C (106°F) having been recorded. In August the average sea temperature is 26°C (79°F). Average winter temperatures rarely dip below 9°C (48°F) with January typically being the coldest month, but temperatures can occasionally drop to -6°C (21°F). October is the wettest month with an average of 70mm of rain.

What to see and do in Mallorca

As the largest of the four Balearic Islands, Mallorca offers what are arguably the most varied sights, sounds and landscapes of the Balearic Islands. A cruise of the island can take anywhere between two and four weeks, depending on how much time you would like to spend in each destination.

The northwest coast of Mallorca is mountainous, with Soller and its beautiful surroundings the main port of call. Here, you can walk along traditional winding alleyways and Spanish squares to find the town’s beautiful architecture and historic landmarks.

The northeast is much quieter with the bays of Pollensa and Alcudia flanked by jagged mountainous ridges. Port d’Polensa is great for its pavement cafes and local boutiques, popular with walkers and cyclists. Many come to Port d’Alcudia for its Blue Flag, white sandy beach and turquoise sea. Backed by hotels and restaurants, it is a resort that gets busy with tourists during the summer months.

The southeast of Mallorca is much ‘sleepier’, offering small sandy beaches, coves and valleys. Cala Figuera, Porto Petro and Porto Colom are three picturesque fishing harbour villages.

Finally, centered around Palma, the southwest is unsurprisingly the most densely populated coastline of Mallorca with half of the population living here. Palma is easy to explore and its unique, gothic charm draws many of the island’s tourists here. Beyond Palma, Port d’Andraxt and Puerto Portals are also worth a visit for their beautiful vistas and boutique shopping.

Yacht crew hangouts and hubs

When on leave in Palma, there are more than a few  renowned crew hubs and hangouts  for meeting, networking and unwinding with fellow crew in Mallorca.

As a world-renowned yachting hub, there are always plenty of budding yachties and veteran crew living and relaxing in Palma de Mallorca. Many take up yoga or enroll in fitness boot camps to increase their fitness after long periods at sea.

Watersports are also popular here, with stand up paddle boarding particularly prevalent. Palma has a great nightlife, with Corner and Escape Bars popular for wide-screen sports and networking.

Superyacht berthing: Ports and marinas in Palma de Mallorca

As a busy port that’s extremely popular with visiting superyachts, marina space is definitely in demand in Palma. Marine service providers often charge more making it one of the most expensive places to berth in the Balearics.

Many of Mallorca’s most exclusive and equipped marinas are found in the Bay of Palma where there is a total of around 3,000 berths. The berthing network is easy to navigate. However, marinas fill up quickly with premium prices charged – typically anywhere from €40 - €70 for a 10m yacht per day.

Government-run quays are often better value. However, if you’re thinking of leaving your yacht here for the winter, or even for a short week away, it may be worth considering a haul out, as this is often cheaper.

Club de Mar, Palma

At the most westerly edge of Palma’s Paseo Maritimo promenade is Club de Mar marina. With around 600 berths in total, Club de Mar has superyacht berthing for vessels up to 125m LOA. There are also several specialised superyacht repair businesses located nearby, including Astilleros de Mallorca.

Pantalan de la Cuarentenas, Palma

Located centrally in the port, Patalan de la Cuarentenas has 100 moorings for smaller yachts. There is also alongside berthing available for larger vessels up to 60m LOA.

Pantalan del Mediterraneo, Palma

Patalan del Mediterraneo attracts and serves larger yachts. It has 60 berths for superyachts between 20 and 120m LOA with supporting dockside facilities.

Marina Port de Mallorca, Palma

At the other end of the Paseo Maritimo promenade is Marina Port de Mallorca with 150 yacht berths, most of which will accommodate larger yachts up to 50m LOA. This facility is close to the  STP shipyard , which houses many respectable yacht service providers.

Superyacht berthing and anchorages in Mallorca

Beyond Palma de Mallorca, superyachts can find marina berthing at  Puerto Portals  (up to 60m LOA) and  Port Adriano  (up to 80m LOA). There are also many anchorages around the island; Cala Portals and Las Illetas are both in close range of Palma.

Yacht fuel bunkering

Fuel bunkering is readily available at the marinas throughout Mallorca. Alternatively, your local  yacht agent  should be able to put you in touch with yacht fuel suppliers finding you the best daily deals.

Yacht clearances, customs and cruising regulations in Mallorca

Yachts arriving in Mallorca’s marinas from foreign ports should take all documents to the marina office as soon as possible so they can be cleared into the country.

A Guardia Civil officer will visit the marina offices in Palma every morning to complete formalities for all new arrivals. He/she will also visit the boats moored along the Palma waterfront. If not, the captain should contact the authorities at the earliest opportunity.

Nationals of countries that are required to have visas for Spain should visit the immigration office in town as soon as possible. They may be allowed short stay without a visa. Further information can be obtained from your yacht agent.

The Lady Moura is back home in Palma ’s Club de Mar . Delivered in 1990, she is one of the largest and most luxurious superyachts in the world . She was in fact the ninth largest private yacht when she was launched.

Named in honour of Mouna Ayoub, the wife of the Saudi magnate Nasser Al-Rashid, who has her built in the historic German shipyard Blohm&Voss, she has since been sold for some 160 million to the Mexican multi-billionaire Alberto Bailleres.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Uncovering Mallorca's Unspoiled Coastlines, Storied Art Enclaves, and Many Eccentric Personalities

No historical plaque marks the spot known as Platja des Franceses, or Frenchman's Beach, on the Spanish island of Mallorca . In fact, as I turned off a back road in the warm haze of a late summer's afternoon, there was little to distinguish it from other parts of Alcúdia Bay, a roughly eight-and-a-half-mile-long arc of soft sand and gently lapping crystal-clear waters. Like most corners of the Mediterranean in July, it was a genial hubbub of families playing, lovers smooching, and sun worshippers lazing. But I recognized the location, framed by a shady grove of pine trees with a headland in the distance, from murky black-and-white holiday photographs and a flickering Super 8 movie I'd watched on YouTube.

In the summer of 1950, this stretch of sand played an eccentric but pivotal role in the history of modern travel when it became the site of the world's first Club Med. The resort was run by a veteran of the French Resistance named Gérard Blitz, who said he'd come up with the idea while working in a postwar sanitarium for concentration camp survivors. In what sounds like the premise for a Wes Anderson movie, Blitz decided that the way to cure the ills of civilization that haunted postwar Europe was to take city dwellers into a pristine natural setting and remove the trappings of social status. The setup was endearingly basic: Guests wore only swimsuits and slept by the beach in US Army surplus canvas tents, sharing a single shower. All food and wine was included; any extras were paid for with beads.

The modern world's first humble “all-inclusive resort” was an instant success, and Blitz's motto still resonates in travel today: “The goal of life is to be happy. The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now.” But while the first Club Med was an inspired idea, it has had a dubious legacy, particularly in Mallorca. With the arrival of the jet age in the 1960s, the island became a quagmire of sun-and-sand mass tourism, with chunks of its coast quickly barnacled with cheap all-inclusive refuges catering to hard-drinking Brits and Germans. Of late, some of the resorts favored by guiri (Spanish for “uncouth foreign visitors”) have become so debauched that the local Mallorcan government banned happy hours and the unsavory tourist practice of “balconing”—jumping from high hotel balconies into swimming pools, with predictably disastrous results.

But this was only half the Mallorcan story, I knew. Even as Blitz and his French sun worshippers frolicked at Alcúdia, the island was earning a reputation as a bohemian artists escape, luring a steady stream of writers, painters, and composers who sought inspiration along its spectacular cliff-lined shores and among the medieval cathedrals and winding streets of its ports and mountain villages. Famed artists like Frédéric Chopin, Robert Graves, and Joan Miró helped transform the obscure island into an aesthete's refuge, much like Capri had been in the 19th century. Gertrude Stein came here, as did Anaïs Nin, D.H. Lawrence, and a small army of Hollywood stars.

These sorts of visitors fostered some charming rural luxury hotels , particularly in the island's wild interior and harder-to-reach northern coast. And in the last couple of years, Mallorca has embraced this side of its past, rebranding itself as a chic, high-end destination. The most celebrated new resort is Sir Richard Branson's Son Bunyola, a renovated historic finca on a 1,300-acre coastal estate that opened its doors last year. Other recent arrivals include the Grand Hotel Son Net and Mon Hotel Boutique Constanza , also transformed fincas. This year will see the arrival of the international luxe brands Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons, with properties in prime coastal locations.

All this has left Mallorca with a split personality. I myself was hardly immune to the sensual allure of the island, with its promise of fine Spanish seafood and sangria in the sun. The temptation to loll like a lotus-eater on the sands is profound. But I also have the urge to seek out the culture and history of any new place, especially if they are half-forgotten, as in Mallorca. Many of us feel this internal tug-of-war on our Mediterranean journeys: hedonism versus curiosity. And since the island remains a crucible of modern tourism, I wanted to see if I could strike my own personal balance between sun worship and spiritual nourishment.

When I inquired about a base for exploring the island's culture, Mallorcan friends recommended a local favorite—and one of the first in the recent wave of historic rural hotels. The Castell Son Claret is a renovated 43-room “castle” in the foothills of the raw mountain spine of the island known as the Tramuntana , on a 330-acre estate that has operated since 1450. Crowned with towers, it feels a world away from the booze-addled coastal resorts, which I was relieved to learn are concentrated almost entirely in Mallorca's southwest. Located inland only a half-hour drive southwest from the island's capital, Palma, the Castell is a bastion of calm and old-world Spanish taste. Instead of being blasted by dance-pop, I sank into my private pool surrounded by flowers and lulled by the all-encompassing harmony of cicadas, Mallorca's seductive summer soundtrack.

The Castell's cultural insights begin with its focus on Mallorcan cuisine. A waiter brought me lemonade mixed from citrus and mint grown in nearby groves. Lunch included “pink tomato tartare” from the estate's fields along with bread and goat cheese made on site. The resort's signature cocktail, the Tramuntana, combines herbs from its organic garden with the obscure (to outsiders) local liqueur called Palo de Mallorca—a bitter remedy beloved by Mallorcan connoisseurs that contains cinchona bark and gentian root.

Nearby Palma offers a surprisingly elegant crash course in the history of the island. There were no inebriated Britons or Germans in sight as I explored the port's winding medieval streets and broad, leafy boulevards peppered with gorgeous Art Nouveau confections. All roads lead to the harbor, crowned by the extravagantly ornate Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria. After the crown of Aragon seized Mallorca from the Arabs in 1231, construction took 300 years to finish. Today it is second in grandeur only to its counterparts in Milan and Cologne, Germany. Inside, along with the classic grisly Catholic relics (fingers, bones, and other assorted body parts of the saints are on plentiful display), I was delighted to discover that the revered Catalan artist Antonio Gaudí, who worked in Mallorca in the early 1900s, had created a seven-sided modernist canopy hovering over the altar like a reimagined crown of thorns.

But even Gaudí's celebrity wattage is outshone by Joan Miró's lovely house-studio on the western edge of Palma. The illustrious Catalan painter, sculptor, and ceramist arrived in 1940, fleeing Paris to escape the Nazis, in search of the calm Mallorcan shores where he had summered as a child. From the mid-1950s, Miró set up an extraordinary complex here, with different structures for each of his artistic disciplines. Today, the painting studio is a work of art in itself. Designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert, a fellow Catalan, it has a ceiling that evokes a wave. Its sun-filled interior is still crowded with Miró's deliriously cheerful canvases mixing abstraction and Surrealism, with animals, stars, and the moon swirling together in a hypnotic dance. But just as affecting are the tiny souvenir knickknacks, like pinned butterflies and a swordfish tusk mounted on the wall, and the eccentrically personal photographs Miró gathered over his life, including images of Easter processions. The walls of other rooms are still covered with his charcoal sketches, making it feel as if the artist left only yesterday.

The rugged northern coastline of Mallorca, where the Tramuntana meets the Mediterranean in mile after mile of dramatic cliffs, is the island's most isolated and spectacular region. But its narrow, winding roads are notoriously taxing to drive. The most central location for exploring, Mallorcan friends said, was the Jumeirah Port Sóller Hotel , which is perched on a precipice roughly in the middle of the coast, with panoramic sea views from every balcony. It was tempting to squander days in the rooftop infinity pool, gazing at the horizon and dining on chilled gazpacho with cherries. But the mountainous UNESCO World Heritage–listed coast is riddled with hiking trails with evocative names like the Trail of Dry Stones and the Trail of the Painters that lead to empty valleys and abandoned churches. The coast first appeared on Europe's artistic travel map when Chopin and his lover George Sand scandalously spent the winter of 1838 and 1839 in the village of Valldemossa. Today, Sand's memoir of their visit, A Winter in Mallorca, is sold in 10 languages on the island, despite the fact that she detested the weather, the local peasantry, and the cuisine. The somber monastery where the pair stayed is now a charming museum, with their room, “cell number 4,” preserved as a shrine.

The Tramuntana gained additional artistic attention after 1929, when the magisterial British writer Robert Graves, author of the classic World War I memoir Goodbye to All That, settled into the village of Deià, in part to calm his PTSD as a veteran of the Somme. The ancient Roman novel he penned there, I, Claudius, was a personal favorite of mine as a teenager and I longed to pay my respects.

To reach Graves's house-museum, I drove—very carefully—along the breathtaking mountain road. Every headland I passed was crowned with a crumbling tower built in the Middle Ages as a fire beacon to alert distant townsfolk of the arrival of pirates. Deiá itself was so busy I couldn't find a place to park. Before he died in 1985, Graves had lured many famous scribes and artists to the village, giving it such international cachet that it became a millionaire celebrity refuge in the 1990s; Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones bought a mansion, and Mick Jagger and David Bowie came to party. Gorgeous though it remains, the real estate boom has driven many less-moneyed artists out. But Graves' house on Deià's outskirts recalls a time when the village still exuded quiet charm.

It was fascinating to learn from the modest exhibits how the expat British writer set himself up in rustic comfort, pumping water by hand every morning and writing through the long winter nights in front of an open fire. I inspected the wooden desk where he wrote I, Claudius (not to mention others of his staggering 130 works) beneath a small Etruscan statue. Upstairs, another small exhibit recounted Graves's complicated love life. (One of his paramours nearly died after an act of “defenestration.”) On the way out, a tiny bookstore sold Graves's books and T-shirts with quotes from his poetry (“Love is a universal migraine / A bright stain on the vision / Blotting out reason...”).

It was my last day in Mallorca when I made my pilgrimage to Frenchman's Beach. There are no decent hotels there today, so I stayed a half-hour drive north at a trendy boutique beach resort called El Vicenç de la Mar, in the town of Pollença. Located at the end of the Tramuntana, it was another spectacular choice: From my balcony I gazed out at fingers of limestone rising from the sea. The landscape had a drama I normally associate with Polynesia.

The day unfolded like in ideal Mediterranean summer fashion: I breakfasted on luscious Spanish pastries and café cortado beneath the polished blue sky. By noon I was enjoying a dip in the gloriously calm and clear waters of Alcúdia. But as I emerged from the sea, I wondered if in simply visiting the location of the long-gone Club Med I had been too literal.

It was time to be creative and imagine how Monsieur Blitz would have achieved the same giddy sense of freedom on the island today.

I soon got my answer, while strolling past a waterfront kiosk for a boat-hire company advertising that it would rent motorboats “with or without a sailing license.” Really? I asked the cheerful owner, Ritchie, who was lounging on the marina by a mural of 19th-century sailors. You'll rent me a boat without any paperwork? Absolutely, he assured me. “You don't need a license in Mallorca!” (There are limits as to how far and fast an unlicensed boat can go.) Soon I was behind the wheel, ready to head for the high seas.

Ritchie waved me off amiably from the dock as I opened up the throttle and sped across the waves. Instantly, I felt the rush of excitement that the first Club Med guests must have felt in that long-ago summer of 1950.

I could go wherever I wanted! Swim wherever I liked! I cast anchor at a small rocky cove and jumped off the bow into vodka-clear waters, then continued around the bay's southern headland, where monstrous boulders had crumbled from sea cliffs and dark caves yawned poetically like refuges of the sirens. At last, the mythic Homeric vision of the Mediterranean had come to life.

As I returned to the jetty, I wondered what lesson Mallorca had taught me about balancing hedonism and high culture. I wasn't sure there was one—except perhaps that both should be taken in moderation. Ritchie recommended a neighborhood tapas shack near the dock for lunch, where I ordered gambas al ajillo and a crisp white wine as two fishermen regaled me about their morning catch from the next table. I knew there was another art site I had to visit somewhere, but it's important to know when to stop.

Why the U.S. put a $1 million bounty on a Russian yacht’s alleged manager

On Sept. 3, 2020, the staff of a $90 million yacht placed an order with a U.S. company for a set of luxury bathrobes that came to $2,624.35.

For roughly two years before that, according to federal prosecutors, the yacht’s management had been falsely claiming it was working for a boat named “Fanta.” But the luxury bathrobes came embroidered with a monogram that, prosecutors said, revealed the yacht’s true identity: “Tango.”

That was a problem, officials say in court papers, because Tango was owned by a Russian billionaire under U.S. sanctions, and doing business on his behalf violated federal law.

Late last month, U.S. authorities unveiled a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and or conviction of the man they say was running the yacht staff and orchestrated the deception with the robes — Vladislav Osipov, 52, a Swiss-based businessman from Russia. In a new indictment , federal prosecutors say Osipov misled U.S. banks and companies into doing business with the Tango yacht despite the sanctions on the Russian owner, whom the Justice Department has identified as billionaire Viktor Vekselberg .

Osipov has denied the allegations. Osipov’s attorney has said that the government has failed to demonstrate that Vekselberg owned the yacht, and that its management was therefore not a sanctions violation.

The reward offer for Osipov reflects the latest stage in the evolution of the West’s broader financial war against Russia two years into the war in Ukraine, as the United States and its allies increasingly target intermediaries accused of enabling Russian oligarchs to circumvent sanctions.

Many Russians close to President Vladimir Putin have been under sanctions dating to 2014, when Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine and sent proxy forces into that country’s eastern Donbas region. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, President Biden vowed to deal a “crushing blow” with a barrage of new sanctions on financial institutions, industries, business executives and others tied to the Kremlin. But roughly two years later, Russia’s economy has proved surprisingly resilient after the nation poured tens of billions of dollars into ramping up its military industry. Moscow has also worked around the sanctions, finding new third parties to supply it with critical military and industrial hardware, as well as countries beyond Europe to buy its oil.

Now, the West is trying to increase the reach of its sanctions by digging deeper into Russian supply chains. Late last month, the Treasury Department announced more than 500 new sanctions targeting Russia , primarily on military and industrial suppliers. The Justice Department also announced charges against two U.S.-based “facilitators” of a Russian state banker who is under sanction, as well as the guilty plea of a dual national based in Atlanta who was accused of laundering $150 million through bank accounts and shell companies on behalf of Russian clients.

Prioritizing criminal charges against — and the arrests of — Western employees of Russia’s elites represents a new escalation of the U.S. financial war against Putin, experts say. One Moscow businessman, speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said many influential Russians are concerned about the arrest of two associates of Andrey Kostin, the head of VTB, Russia’s second-biggest state bank. These associates, Vadim Wolfson and Gannon Bond, were charged with helping Kostin evade sanctions by maintaining a $12 million property in Aspen, Colo., for Kostin’s benefit while concealing his ownership. Kostin has said that the charges of sanctions evasion against him are “unfounded” and that he has not violated any laws . Bond has pleaded not guilty; Wolfson hasn’t made an initial court appearance yet.

Wolfson, also known as Vadim Belyaev, had been a Russian billionaire until the Russian government took over his bank in 2017. Bond, 49, is a U.S. citizen from Edgewater, N.J. For all Russians living abroad and working with people in Russia, the threat of criminal charges is a much more worrying prospect than the sanctions imposed by the Treasury Department last month against hundreds of individuals and entities, the businessman said, in part because sanctions are far easier to dodge than criminal charges.

“What you have seen through today’s public announcements are our efforts at really targeting the facilitators who possess the requisite skill set, access, connections that allow the Russian war machine [and] the Russian elites to continually have access to Western services and Western goods,” David Lim, co-director of the Justice Department’s KleptoCapture task force, which is tasked with enforcing U.S. sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, told reporters last month.

Thad McBride, an international trade partner at the law firm Bass Berry & Sims, said the crackdown on intermediaries reflected the natural evolution of the U.S. sanctions campaign in response to Russian adjustments.

“It seems to me they have gone through a comprehensive list of the oligarchs, and you can debate whether or not it’s had a meaningful impact on the Russian war effort,” McBride said. “Because they’re getting smarter about who’s who, they’re finding other people who play meaningful roles in these transactions, even though they’re not showing up in the headlines.”

The charges against Osipov related to his alleged management of the Tango yacht illustrate the mounting potential consequences for people in Europe and the United States who attempt to do business with Russians targeted by Western allies, as well as the opaque structures allegedly employed by those seeking to evade sanctions.

With a net worth estimated by Forbes in 2021 at $9 billion, Vekselberg, 66, has long drawn scrutiny from the West — and sought to safeguard his wealth. He made his initial fortune in aluminum and oil in Russia’s privatization of the 1990s and then expanded into industrial and financial assets in Europe, the United States and Africa, with Putin’s blessing. In addition to the yacht, federal prosecutors say, Vekselberg acquired $75 million worth of properties, including apartments on New York’s Park Avenue and an estate in the Long Island town of Southampton.

Vekselberg, who declined to comment for this article, has not been criminally charged by the Justice Department. In a 2019 interview with the Financial Times, he denounced the sanctions as arbitrary and harmful for international business, saying he had been targeted just because he was Russian and rich and knows Putin.

In April 2018, the Treasury Department under the Trump administration sanctioned Vekselberg and six other Russian oligarchs as part of broader financial penalties over the Kremlin’s invasion of Crimea, support for President Bashar al-Assad in Syria and interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Vekselberg was also targeted for his work for the Kremlin as chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation, an attempt to create Russia’s version of the Silicon Valley — evidence that appeared to undermine the Russian businessman’s claims that he operated independently of the Kremlin.

But with Vekselberg’s payments monitored by U.S. banks, according to the federal indictment , Osipov used shell companies and intermediaries to avert the bite of sanctions. Vekselberg kept other major assets out of the reach of U.S. authorities by making use of the Treasury Department’s 50 percent ownership rule, which stipulates that it is illegal to transact with firms only if an owner under sanction controls more than 50 percent of the business.

For example, a month after Treasury imposed sanctions on Vekselberg in April 2018, his Renova Innovation Technologies sold its 48.5 percent stake in Swiss engineering giant Sulzer to Tiwel Holding AG, a group that is nevertheless still “beneficially owned” — meaning, owned in practice — by Vekselberg through Columbus Trust, a Cayman Islands trust, according to Sulzer’s corporate filing. Vekselberg’s longtime right-hand man at Renova, Alexei Moskov, replaced one of Vekselberg’s direct representatives on the board. Moskov told The Washington Post that he stepped down from all his executive positions at Renova Group in 2018 after U.S. sanctions were first imposed and from that moment ceased to be Vekselberg’s employee.

The attempts to circumvent the sanctions appear to have found some success in the U.S. legal system. Columbus Nova, a U.S.-based asset management fund controlling more than $100 million in assets in the U.S. financial and tech industry, is run by Vekselberg’s cousin, Andrew Intrater. The firm battled for more than two years to lift a freeze on Columbus Nova’s assets, imposed by Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control because of the sanctions on Vekselberg, and won, reaching a settlement agreement with the Treasury Department. After renaming itself Sparrow Capital LLC, Columbus Nova successfully argued that Intrater — not Vekselberg — owns the fund. Intrater argued that the company was 100 percent owned by U.S. citizens and that no individual or entity under sanction held any interest in it. Intrater said Columbus Nova had earned fees for managing investment funds owned by Renova. He said he had repeatedly told Treasury he would not distribute any funds to Vekselberg.

Now Osipov, the alleged manager of Vekselberg’s $90 million yacht, is attempting a similar argument as U.S. authorities seek his arrest on charges of bank fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and violations of sanctions law.

The federal indictment states that the Tango was owned by a shell corporation registered in the British Virgin Islands that was in turn owned by several other companies. The Virgin Islands shell company, authorities say, was controlled by Osipov, who also served in senior roles for multiple companies controlled by Vekselberg. U.S. officials also say Vekselberg ultimately controlled the other companies that owned the Virgin Islands shell company.

According to the indictment, a Tango official instructed a boat management company in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, to use a false name for the yacht — “Fanta” — to disguise its true identity from U.S. financial institutions and firms, which try to avoid doing business with an entity or person under sanction.

Working at Osipov’s direction, according to the indictment, employees for Tango bought more than $8,000 worth of goods for the yacht that were unwittingly but illegally processed by U.S. firms and U.S. financial institutions, including navigation software, leather basket magazine holders provided by a bespoke silversmith, and web and computing services. The management company running Tango, run by Osipov, also paid invoices worth more than $180,000 to a U.S. internet service provider, federal prosecutors say.

The Tango was seized by the FBI and Spanish authorities in the Mediterranean not long after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and Osipov was first indicted last year. The owner of the Spanish yacht management company hired by Osipov, Richard Masters, 52, of Britain, was criminally charged last year by federal prosecutors with conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating federal sanctions law. A request for comment sent to Masters’ firm was not returned.

But in recent court documents, Osipov’s attorney argues that the yacht was not more than 50 percent owned by Vekselberg, and that the government hasn’t demonstrated it was. Barry J. Pollack, an attorney at Harris, St. Laurent and Wechsler, also says the government never warned Osipov of its novel and “unconstitutional” application of federal sanctions law.

“The government points to no precedent that supports its extraordinary interpretation and cites no authority that allows the traditional rules of statutory construction to be turned on their head,” Pollack wrote in a defense filing. The filing adds: “[Osipov] is not a fugitive because he did not engage in any of the allegedly criminal conduct while in the United States, has never resided in the United States, did not flee from the United States, and has not concealed himself.”

Still, the State Department’s Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program has said it will provide up to $1 million for information leading to Osipov’s arrest, warning that he may visit Herrliberg, Switzerland; Majorca, Spain; or Moscow.

The case demonstrates the extent of the U.S. commitment to tighten the screws on those seen as aiding Russian elites, even if they themselves are not closely tied to the Kremlin.

“When DOJ levels legal action against an individual or entity, they have quite a bit of evidence, especially because the threshold to press charges for money-laundering and sanctions evasion is so high,” said Kim Donovan, director of the Economic Statecraft Initiative within the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center. “We’ve had quite a bit of experience targeting Russia directly, and what you’re starting to see is the U.S. go after the facilitators enabling sanctions evasion. That’s where the U.S. is focusing its efforts right now.”

Oldest Neolithic boats in the Mediterranean were remarkably advanced

T housands of years before the Romans exerted complete control over the Mediterranean Sea, another civilization used canoes to get around the Mediterranean. Now, a team of archaeologists have unearthed the surprising technology that these people used to build boats.

Many of Europe’s most prominent civilizations relied on the Mediterranean for transportation and exchange of goods — and during the Neolithic was no exception. Plenty of communities on the shores of the sea traveled and traded across the waters, as documented by archaeological findings. But not that much is known about the seafaring capability of these early communities. This is exactly why the site of La Marmotta in Italy is so important.

Sunken archaeological treasure

La Marmotta is an important submerged archaeological site located near Anguillara Sabazia on the shores of Lake Bracciano, north of Rome. It is most notable for the discovery of a Neolithic village that dates back to around 5,700 BCE, making it one of the oldest known pile-dwelling (or stilt house) settlements in Europe.

One of the most significant discoveries at La Marmotta was the remains of boats that date to the Neolithic, more than 7,000 years old. These ancient boats are some of the oldest known examples of watercraft in Europe. Their discovery highlights the advanced technological capabilities and the importance of waterborne transportation for Neolithic communities in the region.

In a new study, a team led by Juan F. Gibaja of the Spanish National Research Council, Barcelona, describe a set of exceptional prehistoric boats. Not only are these boats built from different types of wood, but their construction shows an intricate understanding of wood properties and structural design.

“The preservation of the plant remains at La Marmotta, especially the canoes, has changed our perception of Neolithic communities ,” the researcher told ZME Science in an email. “They were much more technologically advanced than we thought and possessed extensive knowledge passed down through generations about the techniques for crafting these canoes. It is significant that they were made from different types of wood because it demonstrates their understanding of the diverse uses of various tree species. Not all trees would have been suitable for making canoes.”

The boats are essentially canoes ranging in length from 6 to almost 11 meters. They were crafted by the early farming and pastoral communities of the Neolithic, who arrived in Italy some 7,700 years ago.

They are not the oldest boats ever discovered, but they do show remarkable a level of seafaring sophistication.

“There are boats made by Mesolithic hunter-gatherer groups, predating the Neolithic period. Generally, these are much smaller canoes. The canoes at La Marmotta represent the level of technical knowledge related to canoe crafting . They demonstrate that for Neolithic

societies, it must have been relatively easy and quick to travel by sea. They are the origin of our current watercraft.”

The boats include some advanced construction techniques, such as transverse reinforcements. Furthermore, one of the canoes has three T-shaped wooden objects, each with a series of holes allowing for ropes to be tied to sails or other features. In fact, this is such an advanced design that it strongly indicates the local community had specialists dedicated to boat building.

“Obviously, canoes of that size, with such specialized T-shaped pieces embedded in the canoe’s wall, could only have been crafted by

individuals who are well-versed in canoe-making techniques. Crafting such canoes would have required individuals with extensive technical knowledge. Therefore, there likely would have been specialists dedicated to the crafting of these canoes. Even within Neolithic

societies, it is highly plausible that there was a division of labor.”

A “globalized” Mediterranean?

Perhaps the most important conclusion from all of this revolves around the mobility of these cultures. We tend to think of these prehistoric communities as static but judging from these boats and many other pieces of evidence (such as many diverse coastal settlements that seemed to exchange goods), these people moved around a lot.

“The transportation of people and goods was likely more common than we might assume. The sea would have served as a swift means of travel, both for trade and for relocating to different living areas,” Gibaja told ZME Science.

There’s also plenty of interesting findings just waiting to be discovered. Archaeologists have only uncovered a portion of the site at La Marmotta, and there are plenty of other equally interesting sites where such boats may be preserved. By finding and analyzing these sites, concludes Gibaja, “we may gain a better understanding of the naval technology of those societies and their social organization.”

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly gifted himself a $300 million megayacht, dubbed “Launchpad,” ahead of his 40th birthday.

The staggering 387-foot-long vessel was seen floating at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after arriving at its berth earlier this week, The Sun reported Thursday.

The multi-layered luxury ship’s sleek exterior was designed by Espen Øino International and boasts a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, according to SuperYacht Times.

Reportedly ranking as the 45th largest yacht in the world, the interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing and reportedly executed by Zuretti Interior Design company, a France-based company specializing in unique and custom yacht design.

The breathtakingly beautiful floater stands out with a navy blue theme matching an American flag perched proudly on its wood-paneled stern.

There are several outdoor areas where the social media maven will be able to relax with his family and the indoor levels feature glass paneling allowing for tons of natural light.

There also appears to be a helipad perfect for whenever the Facebook co-founder wants to travel to his vessel by air.

The Feadship-built yacht, built in 2022, can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard, requires a crew of 48, and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com .

Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Palm Beach International Boat Show returns to West Palm Beach waterfront

The Palm Beach International Boat Show returns this week with more nearly 1,000 vessels on display, including super yachts from around the world.

Tickets are on sale now for the show that runs March 21-24 along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

The show, which started in 1982, has grown to a major economic engine for the community, with last year's impact estimated at $1.05 billion statewide — nearly as much as the $1.3 billion Miami International Boat Show, said Alyssa Freeman, executive director of the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, which owns the boat show.

"Palm Beach is really not that far behind Miami, and Miami is the biggest in the world," Freeman said. "That was really exciting."

This year's boat show features an expanded Super Yacht Show at Palm Harbor Marina, showcasing yachts that typically stretch longer than 80 feet and have a variety of luxurious amenities that include hot tubs, crew quarters, dance floors and sun decks.

"We have more super yachts there than we ever have before, and they're even bigger," Freeman said, noting that at 236 feet, the vessel Casino Royale takes the title of largest yacht at this year's show. The title of "most expensive yacht" goes to Come Together, a 196-foot vessel priced at $59.95 million.

"Everybody, when they think about super yachts, they think about Monaco and Miami, but Palm Beach is a real player in these boat shows and the yachting world," Freeman said.

Exhibitors continue to be drawn to the Palm Beach International Boat Show by the opportunity for high sales year after year when compared with other South Florida boat shows, she said.

"I've heard from several of them, this is their favorite show to attend," Freeman said, "And that's why, because their sales are higher at Palm Beach."

The show continues to make headway in improving its sustainability efforts, she said. After reducing single-use plastics, a major change this year is the addition of water bottle refilling stations throughout the show, Freeman said.

"I think that's exciting because everybody's talking about sustainability and how we can be more sustainable," she said. "Every year, we take little steps to be more sustainable."

Freeman said she is excited for this year's AquaZone presented by Nautical Ventures. The attraction showcases some of the "yacht toys" that are new or popular on the market.

"It's so cool, because there are people actually in the water demoing yacht toys, and it's usually the latest and greatest," she said. "There's always something new every year that we've never seen before."

The Palm Beach International Boat Show also features a range of seminars, demonstrations and discussions throughout the weekend, including mental health in yachting, tips to boat to the Bahamas, safe boating to protect sea turtles and how to address active threats and piracy.

Freeman, who has children, said she loves the Kids Fishing Clinics scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with captain Don Dingman.

"Captain Don has been doing this for years, and he does a fantastic job," Freeman said. "The kids actually get to go home with a free rod and reel once the clinic is over."

The association produces the Palm Beach International Boat Show with Informa Markets' U.S. Boat Shows division.

"As we gear up for the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show, we are excited for our return to Downtown West Palm Beach to celebrate the rich history of this esteemed event," Andrew Doole, president of U.S. Boat Shows at Informa Markets, said in a news release. "Each year, we’re grateful for the warm welcome and support from the community, which truly makes this event a highlight on the calendar for both residents and visitors alike."

Informa also produces the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary art show happening March 21-24, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. A Windward VIP ticket to the boat show includes admission to the art show as well.

In addition to serving as a cornerstone festival of spring in West Palm Beach, the boat show launched the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back program to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions to local nonprofits, Freeman said.

The grant program had a soft launch last year and formalized the boat show's four-decade practice of giving back to the community, Freeman said.

"We're really excited about it," said Freeman, who added that the boat show team is working with the Community Foundation to manage the grant program, which they hope to grow. "That's something that's a super high priority for us."

Money raised through a portion of the boat show's ticket sales, optional add-ons and some related activities goes toward the fund.

The boat show in February announced that the first round of grants totaling $500,000 would go to 25 nonprofits that have marine-related programs or projects, including Florida Fishing Academy, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Florida Atlantic University, Inlet Grove High School, Palm Beach State College, Sea Turtle Adventures and Friends of Manatee Lagoon.

"We're hoping one day we'll be able to say that it's a million dollars," she said. "So fingers crossed. It relies on the success of the boat show and the support of the community. With that, we will continue to grow."
