As the guests board the luxury catamaran, they will be offered a refreshing beverage to enjoy as you cruise along the scenic Atlantic coastline.  When you dock on Clifton 4th Beach, guests will be treated to a delicious barbecue or canape lunch on board the catamaran.

Turn up the Summer time festivities with Waterfront Charters and their amazing cruises. How it works?

Browse the range of available cruises and special events. Tickets can be booked online to save time and special rates or at the Waterfront Charters office at V&A Waterfront.

Do check the schedule to ensure you are aboard before departure time. Only guests with a printed or online boarding pass are allowed to board 15 minutes before the cruise departs. Your boarding pass must be collected at their office more than 30 minutes before departure time.

1. New Years Midnight Cruises

Toast to the new year in style cruising along the coast.

A Waterfront Charters special cruise. Welcome the New Year from the perfect vantage point and party on the deck of the expansive motor catamaran Sea Princess or take a midnight cruise on the marvellous Southern Cross.

The cruises departs the quayside at 9pm on 31 December and forms part of the V&A Waterfronts New Year’s Eve Events. The trip has a four-hour duration and includes a leisurely cruise in Table Bay while guests sip their chilled complimentary Prosecco and reflect on the past year. There is also a cash bar aboard the boat with a full range of drinks, and a selection of bar snacks to accompany them.

To ensure the party mood is maintained and you get to dance the night away there will be a top guest DJ spinning New Year’s magical music aboard the Sea Princess.

Guests then return to the quayside just before midnight to dock for a perfect view of the New Year’s Eve Light Display in the V&A Waterfront, a spectacular innovation that heralds the advent of the New Year. You’ll have until 1am on 1 January aboard the boat to work on your New Year’s resolutions: ring out the old and ring in the new in style with Waterfront Charters and Prosecco. Party hats are provided for added fun.

2. Tequila Sunset Yacht Parties

Watching the sunset over the Atlantic horizon while standing on the deck of a luxury yacht is one of life’s finest treats. Trust Waterfront Charters to add even more excitement and joy to the occasion with their three-hour Tequila Sunset Yacht Parties.

The name says it all! On boarding at 6pm you will be handed a delicious complimentary Bacardi Tequila Cocktail to set the scene. Their graceful and fully appointed catamaran will set sail out the harbour and head towards the fabled Clifton Bay as the sun heads towards the Western horizon. With ideal musical accompaniment to help set the mood, courtesy of renowned DJ Craig de Sousa. The party will move past the stunning Cape coastline to anchor just before the sun dips over the Atlantic rim, and guests toast the start of another balmy evening.

The Mirage features a fully stocked bar on board where guests can pay either in cash or by deposit prior to the charter. For those summer cocktails, we can even hire a slushy machine! Please refer to the attached list for the available drinks.

We kindly ask that guests refrain from bringing their own drinks on board under any circumstance. However, if there is a specific drink not on the list, the boat will arrange it for you.

Please note that sponsors of beers or wines will incur a corkage fee of R5,000 (maximum of 20 bottles of wine and 120 beers allowed).

We highly recommend canapé style catering, and we would be delighted to assist you in finding the perfect chef or catering company that can cater to your specific requirements. Please refer to the attached sample menu for your convenience.

Please note that guests are strictly prohibited from bringing their own catering under any circumstance.

Service fee:

A 15% service charge is charged on the food and drinks which is dispersed to the crew.

For all charters of 60+ guests, a mandatory service of security is required.

DJ / Entertainer:

The Mirage is equipped with an onboard sound system that has USB and Bluetooth connections, making it easy for you to play your own music.

In the event that you wish to provide your own DJ, they can use the onboard equipment (CDJs 2000 & speakers), and the fee for the first 6 hours is approximately R9,500, with an additional charge of R2,000 per hour thereafter.

If you prefer to have a DJ provided by us, the rate starts at approximately R9,500 for the first 6 hours (varying depending on the event), with an additional charge of R2,000 per hour thereafter. DJ hire for up to a 4-hour charter is charged at R3,250. Additional rates may apply for extended periods, and we will be happy to provide you with a quote.

Water toys:

We are pleased to offer the use of our floating pool, water slide, and SUP boards for charters lasting 4 hours or longer.

Lifesavers:

If you have a larger group that will be participating in water sports, we can arrange to have lifeguards on board for added safety.

Relax and spread out on the Mirage's spacious double deck configuration. The bridge deck level boasts a vast saloon area, while the upper deck features an expansive flybridge with VIP seating for 61 passengers, unobstructed views of Cape Town's stunning vistas, and a second bar for ultimate convenience and service. With seating for up to 52 guests, the large contemporary bar and huge open area on the deck are perfect for dancing, entertainment, and socializing.

• All charters are weather dependent and at the discretion of management.
• Rates are in South African Rands.
• All charters are subject to our general terms and conditions and signed indemnity forms.
• You will be required to acknowledge T&C's specific for Mirage Catamaran.

How to Book:

• Contact us to inquire about a specific vessel. We will send you full details about the vessel and your charter.
• Once the date and time is agreed, fill, sign, and acknowledge our Booking Terms.
• Once the Booking Terms has been received, we will send you a quote, invoice, and payment link.
• To reserve the charter, make a full payment or a 50% deposit payment.
• The balance is required within 6 weeks of the charter date.
• Should you wish to book, and it is less than 6 weeks before the charter date, full payment is required.
• For local payments, use EFT or a secure payment link via Peach Payments. For international payments, we'll provide a secure payment link.
• Reserve your charter early to avoid disappointment, especially during peak season.
• Avoid booking on the final day of your holiday due to unpredictable weather conditions in Cape Town. Keep a few days available to account for potential rescheduling.
• Once we receive your payment, a charter confirmation email will be sent with all relevant details.

Tigresse Sailing Catamaran

The majestic 62ft Tigresse Sailing Catamaran can accommodate up to 60 passengers. Ideally suited to romantic sunset cruises accompanied by local sparkling wines taking in views of our beautiful coastline . She is also a popular choice for private events , whether they be corporate functions or Clifton yacht parties .

Tigresse Sailing Catamaran Specifications

A competent and qualified crew consists of a skipper , two deck hands and when required, a hostess or barman handles the drinks and catering for guests . Safety equipment includes a life raft , life jackets and 2-way radios. The Waterfront and the maritime authorities' safety standards commonly known as the compulsory SAMSA regulations are strictly adhered to.

Tigresse was designed by A. Simonas as a charter yacht for a maximum of 60 passengers. Built in Cape Town in 1997, construction material consists of polyester resin fiberglass with a balsa wood core and laminated marine plywood bulkheads. Her grt is 27.5T and net is 19.87T with an overall length of 17.65m. The beam is 9.2m with a depth of keel of 1.5m. Tigresse is powered by 2*50 hp/mo Volvo Penta motors with a 2:1 ratio mechanical gearbox and straight pr. shafts.

Maximum motoring speed at 2000rpm is about 9.5. The mast and boom on the Tigresse are made of Epo-Coated aluminum and the mast is 25m high from the line. The total sail area is 296 sq meters with the mainsail at 106 sq meters. The jib is 65 sq meter. The maximum speed achieved under sail by the Tigresse to date is 22knots.

Cape Town, Auckland and Punta del Este confirmed ports for the 2023 Ocean Globe Race

• The 2023 Ocean Globe Race sets  a historic track in the spirit of the original Whitbread Race.
• Start Finish port  to be announced in the weeks ahead.
• L’Esprit d’Equipe  and Galiana on the GGR start line as  Tapio Lehtinen  sets off on GGR ahead of OGR participation.
• Translated 9  sailing with 1973 Whitbread winner SAYULA, and official launch party in Rome announcing first crew selection from 1200 applicants. 
• Marie Tabarly  finalised her crew roster after a successful season crowned by a Pen Duick victory in the RBI Race.
• OGR entrants complete refits, training and crew qualifications, with  less than one year to go . 

Dateline: Les Sables d’Olonne, Tuesday 4th of October 2022 Sir Francis Chichester made his groundbreaking one stop solo circumnavigation in 1967 chasing the original clipper ship sailing times around the world. That led to the first ever around the world yacht race in 1968 called the Sunday Times Golden Globe. It was single handed, so in 1973 it was decided to hold the first ever fully crewed yacht race around the world. The legend of the Whitbread Race was born.  On Sept. 10th next year, the inaugural 2023 Ocean Globe Race will set sail around the world in the Spirit of that original Whitbread to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Today the three stopover ports were finally announced. 

Following years of negotiations with many ports, compounded by covid issues and tough economic times, we are excited to finally announce that  Cape Town, Auckland and Punta del Este  are marks of the course, all cities rooted into the DNA of the original Whitbread. We couldn’t be happier with the result.

We are particularly excited to be stopping in Auckland at the halfway mark, an absolute favourite stopover for many Whitbread and later Volvo ocean race crews. 

Cape Town  is always in the mix for its strategic location as the gateway to the Southern Oceans. The OGR has an arrangement with the V&A Waterfront for berthing and will now work with local agencies to build the stopover.  The  Royal Cape Yacht Club  is the host yacht club for the stopover. 

Auckland  has always been part of the Whitbread since the second edition in 1977, in which  Pen Duick VI, ADC Accutrac (now Translated9) and Neptune,  all entrants of the OGR 2023, took part.   This halfway stopover during the southern summer festive season of Christmas/New Year becomes a family holiday for most, before the serious business of preparing for a transit of Cape Horn, a dream for many of the crews.

Chris Simpson , Head of Major Events at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited , says: 

Hosting the Australasian stopover presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s magnificent scenery to the world. It also brings benefits to our region’s tourism, hospitality and marine sectors. At the same time, it is a chance for Aucklanders and New Zealanders to relive the history of the original Around the World Whitbread Races. In 1977, Auckland hosted its first Whitbread stopover with the arrival of 15 yachts after a marathon second leg from Cape Town, South Africa. Now Aucklanders will get to create more memories as these retro style yachts enter the downtown harbour next December. We look forward to formalising an agreement with the organisers in the coming weeks.

Punta del Este  came later in the Whitbread’s history for the 1985 edition that was won by French yacht  L’esprit d’Equipe  skippered by  Lionel Péan.  This same yacht is set to race around the world once again in the 2023 Ocean Globe Race with French skipper  Lionel Reigner . The  Yacht Club Punta Del Este  is hosting the stop over and is famous for its warm receptions. Being the first stop after Cape Horn and the last stop before the sprint to the finish, emotions are sure to be running high!

Don McIntyre , Founder and Chairman of the Ocean Globe Race said:

Maintaining a genuine clipper ship route was important for the 50th anniversary OGR, so we are excited about today’s announcement. Sadly UK ports are not interested in hosting the start and finish of this epic adventure and historic occasion. Discussions continue with EU ports with this important decision to be announced in the weeks ahead. A Prologue prior to the start is planned and could leave from Portugal or Spain.

With one year to go before the start of the Ocean Globe Race, many entrants have celebrated the landmark in various ways. 

Tapio Lehtinen ’s OGR entry the Swan 55 Galiana  was in France for the start of the Golden Globe Race. The young crew of the Swan 55 sailed 1.700 miles from Helsinki to Les Sables d’Olonne to be part of the official start line. They are back home after sending Tapio off in style in his S&S designed Gaïa 36 Asteria, currently in the lead group of the GGR. Of his preparation, Tapio said before leaving

I’m often asked if I’m afraid when I’m out on the oceans. My answer is that one should be afraid on land so that they don’t need to when they are out on the oceans. This holds for both preparing your boat as well as yourself for the trip.

Galiana  shared the GGR 2022 start line with  L’Esprit d’Equipe  of  Lionel Reigner,  who was boat captain for the GGR 2018 winner, and has loads of experience in making boats go around the world. The DNA of both events is rooted in retro sailing, and there are many synergies between both.   Lionel Péan , winner of the 85 edition inaugurated his former yacht back racing around the world on the OGR with French skipper  Lionel Reigner !  

Skipper  Lionel Regnier  is confident:

The boat went through a deep refit and has been tested on the Round Ireland Race and Drheam Cup this summer. We are now focused on crew training and look forward to renewing our sail wardrobe. We are still looking for a partner to finance the last stretch to the start, including safety equipment, but both the boat and the crew are ready to go!

Translated 9   the Swan 65 skippered by  Clare Francis  in the 1977 Whitbread as  ADC Accutrac  had a sail alongside the Carlin’s family  Sayula II  winner of the first edition. The Translated Team held a party in Rome, exactly one year before the start, to announce their crew selection among the 1200 applicants. Translated 9 co-skipper  Marco Trombetti  and Team Manager  Isabelle Andrieu  have surrounded themselves with very experienced sailors, such as US sailing Supremo  Paul Cayard , and Italian sailing legends  Vittorio and Nico Malingri.

After a promising victory in the Drheam Cup over the summer,  Marie Tabarly  and Pen Duick VI have won their class in the Round Britain and Ireland Race, a fixture in the RORC calendar happening every four years, with  Alexia Barrier  of Vendée Globe fame working at the chart table for a whole 14 days and 21 hours!  After a busy summer training and working on crew selection in the classic Channel races (Round Ireland, Drheam Cup, RBI) Pen Duick 6 is back in the shed for some TLC, and Marie will soon announce her definitive crew.

In the scenic town of Hout Bay lies a Castle snatched out of a fairytale. Perched upon the Karbonkelberg Mountain overlooking the Hout Bay harbor is the magnificent Lichtenstein Castle. The castle was built as a replica of the Gothic Schloss Lichtenstein Castle in southern Germany.

The parking and drop off will be located in the parking area behind Mojo’s Restaurant & Tapas Bar, Harbour Road, Hout Bay Harbour, Hout Bay, Cape Town, 7806. There will be a complimentary shuttle service lifting you to and from the venue from Mojo’s.

For guests that require wheel chair access, the nearest drop-off zone is on Dock Road, next to the Market.

Please note that anticipated traffic on Dock Road will cause high levels of congestion getting to and from this area. The nearest parking is at Portswood, however, we do not recommend this as an option due to the high number of visitors expected during this time.
