Professional instructors Taught on new boats Every Weekend

Harbor Sailboats will get you on the water with professional instruction to set your course for a lifetime of sailing. After proper certifications, members can charter from our large fleet of sailboats for a day sail or an extended trip. When you’re finished sailing, simply return the boat to it’s slip and step off, its that easy! Your membership includes a complimentary ASA 101 Basic Keelboat course that will certify you to sail the fleet of Capri 22s inside the bay. Build your sea time from there and we’ll see you in the next level class skippering boats up to 51′.

Charter Placement of New Beneteaus

For some, owning a new Beneteau can be a tough proposition to defend. However, with Harbor Sailboats charter placement, that is not the case. Sailing Club, Sailboat Rentals & Sailing Lessons

Closure of long beach facility.

The marina we operate out of in Long Beach has not been able to negotiate a lease extension with the Hotel Maya and the hotel has decided to close the marina. We are therefore forced to close our Long Beach club and are in the process of moving the fleet back to San Diego. There are unfortunately no other marinas in the Long Beach/Los Angeles harbor that can accommodate the fleet along with an office to run the operation. We regret having to close the Long Beach club but at this point we have no other viable options. In order to rent our sailboats you must pass a skills evaluation on that specific sailboat by either completing the prerequisite class at MBAC or completing a 2-hour private lesson if you have previous sailing experience.  We are a self-service rental facility and when you rent a sailboat you are required to launch, rig, de-rig, and clean up your equipment.  

Regardless of sailing experience and ability, you MUST complete at least a 2-hour private lesson with one of our instructors. During your lesson you will be shown where the equipment is stored, how to rig and launch, demonstrate your sailing ability, complete a capsize and recovery, and be shown how to de-rig and store the equipment properly.  You can book a small boat sailing private lesson here . Your skills evaluation will stay valid for 5 years from your evaluation date, or the last date that you rented that specific piece of equipment.

Sailboat Rental Policies:

• You must be at least 18 years of age to rent equipment and willing to take financial and legal responsibility for the equipment you are renting.
• Minors between the ages of 14-17 may participate on their own sailboat with someone over the age of 18 supervising them and a waiver  must be signed by their parent. Children under the age of 14 must participate in the rental on the same piece of equipment as the adult and the adult must still go through the checkoff process.
• All equipment must be returned within 2.5 hours or ½ hour before closing—whichever comes first.
• You must wear a personal flotation device (PFD) at ALL TIMES.
• Rentals are self service, meaning that customers are expected to setup, rinse, and put away their own equipment.
• You are not allowed to go under any bridges.
• No animals or alcohol allowed on equipment. Those suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to use equipment.
• Commercial activity is prohibited on rental equipment.
• Hobie Getaways require at least 2 passengers over the age of 14.
• The maximum capacity for Quests is 4 people and Hobie Getaways is 5 people.

We are happy to announce that Mission Bay Aquatic Center is now offering Sailing Memberships!  Affordably priced at just $48/month the MBAC Sailing Membership is a low-cost way to continue sailing without the headache or expense of owning a boat. Perfect for those who have completed small boat sailing classes at MBAC, the Sailing Membership will also allow you to continue learning through ongoing instructional clinics that are free for members. To begin a membership, you must have a valid and current MBAC sailboat qualification through having completed a class or lesson with us.

*TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• Minimum 4 month membership commitment. After 4th month's payment you can submit cancellation, otherwise your membership will continue to be charged monthly and you will continue membership benefits. Cancellations must be submitted 7 days prior to charge date.
• Member must know how to sail and pass a skills evaluation on each piece of equipment before being allowed to rent that specific equipment.
• New members who have not yet completed a qualification on MBAC equipment must attend a 2-hour membership orientation before renting. Through the orientation you will be able to qualify to rent one type of sailboat.
• Membership fee will be auto-charged monthly January-November (no charge in December).
• Sailing membership includes use of Sabots, RS Quest, Hobie Getaway, Laser, and Windsurfing Equipment. A qualification is required for each type of boat.
• One 2.5 hour rental per day.
• No pets or alcohol allowed on MBAC equipment.
• MBAC rentals must remain in Sail Bay.
• Membership does not guarantee availability of equipment during peak times.
• Commercial activity prohibited on rental equipment
• Member must remain on the equipment while it is sailing.
• Class discount cannot be combined with other discounts including class packages.
• Please review the Rental Agreement Contract during membership registration for a full list of terms and conditions.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Aquata can venture to Mission Bay, San Diego Bay and along the San Diego coastline. Aquata has no problem hitting high speeds to quickly get you to your next destination!

How long should we rent the boat for?

Aquata has a minimum rental time of 2 hours. We recommend renting for 3-4 hours to get the most out of your experience!

where are you located?

Our address is 1441 Quivira Rd. San Diego, CA 92109 . Aquata is located on the backside of the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in front of the marketplace on the docks. We also offer the option to pickup and drop off on Shelter Island ($50 fee). This address is 2700 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego CA 92106. Once booked, you will receive a detailed confirmation email with parking and walking instructions based on the pickup/drop off location you selected.

what is your cancelation policy?

Aquata requires all cancellations to be made 14 days prior to the scheduled departure time to receive a full refund. Cancellation within 14 days of the charter will forfeit their deposit. Any cancellations made within 72 hours before the charter will forfeit the full amount of the contracted services and are non-refundable.

Aquata allows our customers to choose the route that they’d like to take. Explore the San Diego Bay passing by iconic landmarks, relax in Mission Bay enjoying the wildlife or speed out to the pacific ocean for a gorgeous view of the California coastline. With enough time you can do it all, the possibilities are endless!

What will we see during the charter?

During your private yacht rental, expect to see an array of gorgeous scenery and historic landmarks. Some of our favorites include the Coronado Bridge, USS Midway, Star of India, Seaworld, Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla Cove, Hotel Del Coronado, Point Loma Lighthouse and so many more! With a little luck you could see dolphins, sea lions and whales!

What do we need to bring?

Aquata Charters allows you to bring your own food and drinks (this includes alcohol).  Be sure to bring food that is easily accessible and easy to clean up! Splashing into the vastness of the mother ocean by open water swimming can be a vitalizing and exhilarating way to commune with marine life – but it’s not for the faint of heart. First, a few cautionary tips about open-water swimming.  

• You’ve got to know what you’re doing because the ocean can be a fickle, unpredictable mistress.  
• Additionally, be prepared to freeze your biscuits off because that water is frigid and stays super-cold most of the year. 
• Take a buddy, as swimming alone in the leviathan depth and breadth of the ocean isn’t a great idea for obvious reasons.  
• Also, pay close attention to weather and water conditions before you dive in. 
• Lastly – abide by the open swimmer’s code, “When in doubt, get out.”  

Now that we’ve covered all the do’s and don’ts – where’s the best place for open water swimming in San Diego? Hands down, La Jolla Cove. This spot offers genial, placid waves that are easier to navigate than other off-shore destinations.  In fact, LJ Cove is so popular for open swimming that the town’s official swim club, The La Jolla Cove Swim Club, puts on an annual tradition known as The La Jolla Cove Swim . Every September, slews of hearty folk come out to swim in the open waters from the LJ Shores to the Cove – and back again.  It’s an epic feat but also invigorating and a fabulous way to connect to the water-loving community in San Diego.

Kinda like canoeing but upgraded; kayaking is a low-profile way to get up close and personal with marine life and commune with the SD ways of the water. Using a double-sided paddle, you can row yourself along La Jolla Shores, where you should expect the unexpected.  We picked LJ Shores as an impeccable kayaking destination because you can get on board with guided tours (for which La Jolla is somewhat famous).  

One such guided tour takes you from La Jolla Shores, where you can kayak over to La Jolla Cove.
